nfntjy
SERIOUSLY 3.0 :: Efficient Medal Boosting These are my initial thoughts on medal boosting. Some has been gathered from reading through the forum, some I've discovered, some are just obvious. Please post better methods as they are found so that I can keep this updated. Remember, efficient isn't always the fastest for individual methods (such as reviving your leader in a CTL game over and over). I'm looking for methods to boost as many medals as possible at the same time. But quickly. For general information/methods about each individual method, use the Onyx Medals Guide. Medals I need new or better methods for: VENGEFUL SAPPER (getting a friend to plant grenades may be best??) LEADER ABDUCTOR GUARDIAN SOVEREIGN HARD TARGET HORDER SQUAD LEADER BIG MONEY LOOT COURTESAN If you have a suggestion, please try to use the format I have used and give as much info as possible. Thanks! Verses Medals This guide assumes the following settings unless otherwise noted: Mode: Versus - Private Respawns: 10 (Deathmatch) Round Time Limit: 1 (where applicable) Leader Capture Time: 10 (Capture the Leader) Round Score Limit: 60 (King of the Hill) Wingman Goal Score: 10 (Wingman) Rounds to Win: 1 (where applicable) Number of Bots: Fill Bot Difficulty: Casual Bleed-Out Time: 5 Friendly Fire: On Weapon Respawn: After Pickup Map Selection: Host Chooses You should simply shoose a gametype and weapon(s) and play whatever map the game gives you. Quitting and restarting takes longer. The casual bots are very predictable. Learn their routes on each map. MVP + VETERAN + MATCH WINNER + ACTIVE RELOADER + SPOTTER + SHOCK TROOPER + BATTLE MISTRESS + (MEDIC) + (COVER) Mode: Versus - Any Method: These are medals that you will be getting every single game you play (unless you are AFK boosting). Always use a female character (Anya, Civilian Anya, or Sam as Cogs, Queen Myrrah as Locust). Spot every enemy before you kill them. Rush for the first kill. Get an active reload after every kill/shot. Win. Depending on the weapon type you are using, you should also get buttoned up ribbons (be in cover when shooting long range weapons). Down and revive your teammates when they are close by (turn friendly fire on). Do this and you will constantly be working on at least 9 medals (gametype + any other medal method). CTL or KOTH or WARZONE or EXECUTION or TDM or WINGMAN + ALLFATHERS Mode: Versus - Any Method: Use the settings above. Aim to finish the objective of the match as quickly as possible. For gametypes that require kills, combine with one or more of the weapon medal methods. Set the time limit to 1 minute (the team with the highest score will win). For Capture the Leader, only use these shorter settings (1 Round to Win) if all other CTL-based medals are completed). WARZONE or EXECUTION + SKUNKER Mode: Versus - Private - Warzone Rounds to Win: 2 Method: Play as normal (working on one of the weapon medals and executions of course), winning both rounds. At least two rounds are required to 'skunk' a team. LANCER or HAMMERBURST or RETRO LANCER or GNASHER SHOTGUN or SAWED-OFF SHOTGUN + MASTER-AT-ARMS + (RIFLEMAN) Mode: Versus - Any Method: Combine these with any of the gametype medal methods. When using the Gnasher, you can also try for a few toward your HEADSHOT medal. CAPTOR + FINISHER + PISTOLS + (HEADSHOTS) + (SPECIAL TEAMS) Mode: Versus - Any Method: Down an enemy, stand near him and press . Now kill as many enemies as you can with your pistol. Try for headhsots if possible. This is best done on small maps, as you will move very slowly. Set the weapon pickups to Boltok Pistol and pick one up for easier headshots. FINISHER + OLD SCHOOLER Mode: Versus - Any Method: Whenever you down an enemy, do a curb stomp execution (tap ). HEAVY WEAPONS + EXPLOSIVES + SPECIAL TEAMS + (COVER) Mode: Versus - Any Weapon: Mortar Method: Get all kills using the mortar. Easy to get buttoned up medals with this weapon. Doesn't work well on small maps. PYRO + SPECIAL TEAMS Mode: Versus - Any Method: Get all kills using the Hammer of Dawn or Scorcher. HEADSHOTS + SPECIAL TEAMS + (COVER) Mode: Versus - Any Method: Get all kills using the Longshot. Aim for the head. Another good weapon for getting Buttoned Up ribbons. Efficient AFK Boosting: CTL or KOTH or WARZONE or EXECUTION or TDM or WINGMAN + ALLFATHERS + VETERAN + BATTLE MISTRESS + (MATCH WINNER) + (HARD TARGET) + (COVER) Mode: Versus - Private - Any Bot Difficulty: Insane Equipment: Turbo controller (optional), 2nd Controller (optional) Method: Before starting, set all Weapon Pickups to "Disabled" so that the bots aren't distracted by anything. Insane bots seem to kill each other the quickest. Rounds to win and time limits should be set to as low as possible. If you are using a 2nd controller, but it on the opposite team. This makes the teams even, which will mean that you are more likely to win matches. If you have a turbo controller, set it to run straight ahead. This will put you in the nearest cover, earning you Buttoned Up ribbons. Edited October 8, 2011 by nfntjy
nfntjy
Horde Medals Need input here. Jump into as many games as possible and just play.... FOR THE HORDE Mode: Horde - Private Difficulty: Insane Start Wave: 1 Mutators: Super Reload, Infinite Ammo, and whichever 3rd you find most helpful Map: Depends on method/preference Equipment: 1-3 friends (optional) Method: Complete all 50 waves on insane. This will take a while. You can solo thiis, but having a few frends will make it faster and much more enjoyable. If you are soloing, or just want some tips, try this method. ARCHITECT + FIELD ENGINEER Mode: Horde - Private Difficulty: Insane Start Wave: 1 Mutators: Friendly Fire Map: Checkout Equipment: 2nd Controller Method: Have 2nd controller give his money to the main profile ( + ). Main should then found the nearest base, then purchase a mannable turret. Stand facing the turret and hold while pressing . This will continually damage, then repair the turret. When time runs out, down and revive the 2nd controller twice. Then stand behind him and wait for both players to be killed. Choose to restart from the beginning (otherwise you can not get another FOUNDER ribbon). Beast Medals Need input here as well. So far it seems that just playing on standard with decent players can net fairly good numbers in all medals. I'M A BEAST Mode: Beast - Private Difficulty: Insane Map: Any (???) Equipment: 3-4 Friends Method: Play Beast mode on insane difficulty without failing a single wave (time runs out). You can die. Use any of the methods that have been posted in this forum (links?). BEASTLY + MOTIVATOR + DISMANTLER + RUTHLESS + INVESTOR + HIGH ROLLER Mode: Beast - Private Difficulty: Casual Map: Any Equipment: 2 Friends Method: For these medals, you need to assign roles to each player. Everyone should go for kills and fortifications for the first few rounds until the second row of Locust is unlocked. At this point, one person should be Kantus (heals other players for MOTIVATOR), one person will destroy fortifications (use whichever Locust you find easiest), and one person will go for kills. This person should kill all but one of the humans. Only kill the last one after all fortifications are destroyed or if time is about to run out. When all players have unlocked the fourth tier, everyone can use Berskerkers (or take turns) to destroy fortifications and get kills quickly. BEASTLY + MOTIVATOR + DISMANTLER + RUTHLESS + INVESTOR + HIGH ROLLER (Alternate) Mode: Beast - Standard Map: Any (Vote) Equipment: None Method: If you don't have any friends available for the above method, you can just jump into a standard game. Use a Wretch/Ticker for the first few rounds and get as many kills as you can. The goal is to unlock the 2nd tier as quickly as possible. Switch to Kantus as soon as you can and heal your teammates. You can easily make the most money in the wave without getting a single kill doing this. If other players start using Kantus, switch back to your favorite Locust and go for kills. The goal is to unlock the fourth tier as quickly as possible. You can do this as early as wave 8 if you are lucky. Switch to Berserker. Destroy as many fortifications as you can while getting as many kills as you can. You should be able to make enough money each round to afford the Berserker for the next wave. Repeat until the game is over. Edited October 8, 2011 by nfntjy
nfntjy
Campaign Medals WARMONGER + TOUR OF DUTY + (DOORMAN) Mode: Campaign - Arcade Mutators: Super Reload, Infinite Ammo (your choice for the third) Difficulty: Insane Equipment: A friend who has unlocked the insane difficulty Method: The player who has unlocked insane difficulty must host. Playing through the insane difficulty on arcade will unlock onyx for both the WARMONGER and TOUR OF DUTY medals. Try to participate in as many door openings or button presses as you can for DOORMAN. You may also grab a couple of NUMBER 1 and FORCE MULTIPLIER medals if you're good/lucky. If you can, do this with 3 other firends, and collect all collectables for the most efficient campaign achievement hunting possible (as well as unlcoking the Friendly Fire mutator which is helpful for other boosting methods)! DOORMAN Mode: Campaign - Arcade - Act 1 Chapter 1 : Anchored Mutators: None Difficulty: Any Equipment: None Method: After you grab Dom, run up the stairs. There is a Thrashball Table on the right. Stand next to it and press until you have an onyx medal. KING OF COG + NUMBER 1 + FORCE MULTIPLIER + SURVIVALIST + AFICIONADO Mode: Campaign - Arcade - Act 2 Chapter 7 : Touchdown Mutators: Any 3 'Hard' type (not required, but will net faaster points for King of Cog) Difficulty: Casual (Higher diffculty will net faster points for King of Cog, but you should hit onyx long before you finish the other medals) Equipment: 2nd Controller (or a friend, but only one of you can get Number 1) Method: 2nd controller press immediately to get into cover. Main profile uses rear boomshot turrets to take out 2 gasbags, then runs to front turrets to take out 2 reavers and 2 more gasbags (the order is reaver on right, reaver on left, gasbag on right, gasbag on left). Stay on the turret after the last gasbag to avoid taking hits from distant reavers. When they are gone, take cover with BOTH controllers behind the taller structure in the middle of the platform to avoid damage until the end of the level. Restart chapter after the points screen. Note: If you don't hit the 10x multipler or take a random hit that lowers it, you should still finish the chapter, as you need fewer force multipliers than the others. KING OF COG + NUMBER 1 + SURVIVALIST + AFICIONADO Mode: Campaign - Arcade - Act 1 Prolouge : Troubled Past Mutators: Any 3 'Hard' type (not required, but will net faaster points for King of Cog) Difficulty: Insane Equipment: 2nd Controller (or a friend, but only one of you can get Number 1) Method: Switch to this method after you have recieved an onyx medal for FORCE MULTIPLIER. Just run down the stairs and kill locust until it's over. You are invincible and have infinite ammo. Skip all possible cutscenes ( ). Rixiden
great guide! only thing i might add is that when AFK boosting instead of disabling all of the map weapons switch them all to boomshot instead! its like pouring gas on the flames i noticed a large spike in completed matches when i woke up the next day. they blow each other up really quickly
Buckswana
Another fast way for headshots is to just down someone quickly, then pull out your pistol and shoot them twice in the head.
Buckswana
You can also do 2-7 on normal instead of casual, and gain a lot more points. Any higher than normal though, and the barges require more than 3 shots to down.
ShutDownTheory
I read that they are looking into changing the requirements for the Vengeful medal as they have taken notice that this is a very, very difficult medal to achieve. I have played almost 200+ games and haven't even got the ribbon that is for the vengeful medal. This medal. encourages players to do poorly and takes away from some's competitive nature just so they can acquire the medal. They said that if you have what they believe to be an acceptable number for it(before they change the conditions) they will just give you the onyx. However, I don't believe they have stated what those are and they probably won't.
ReaLiStiiC
A good way for head shots to kill 3 birds w/ 1 stone is make all weapons on the map Torque and try and get head shots with it as it counts as explosive/head shot/special teams all at the same time. Hope this helps.
crocodial
hey so i am planning to start idling CTL matches. i want to sign in my main profile at the start menu, following by my guest profile, and then use the guest controller to set up the lobby, so that my main profile acts as the guest and gets leader... does anyone know how risky this is, in terms of losing data/rank? i know that it is dangerous to sign in/out once i have entered the game, but just want to know if anyone has lost data doing so at the title screen. thanks. Teh Phantomz
Very nice I have been looking for something like this to get more bang for my time. Cheers.
Buckswana
Best Sapper method I've found is the 2 player (no bots) method on Thrashball/KOTH. Change the Boltok, Digger, and Incendiary grenade spawns to frag grenades, and the Mortar/Grinder up top to either a pistol or Lancer/Hammerburst (depending which you're using to shoot the grenades with). One person runs between the 3 spawns picking up and planting grenades on each side, while the other person runs to the Mortar/Grinder spawn and shoots the grenades from there. I was able to get about 140 of them done in one KOTH match (20 minutes). It can be done solo with 2 controllers, but is much quicker with 2 people. I have a decent Vengeful method solo with 2 controllers (no bots) on Mercy/KOTH as well. Change the Oneshot/Mortar spawn to a Longshot. The 2nd controller doing the killing stays at the very front center of that rounded area up top (overlooking the courtyard), and you will always spawn behind him to the left or right once killed (front left or right from the starting spawn points). You can easily walk yourself forward a few steps, and kill yourself with controller 2 from the Longshot spawn. After 5 kills, the Nemesis icon will appear (crossed swords), and then you can go and execute controller 2. Pick up the Longshot so it doesn't disappear, and stand in the same position. Once the controller 2 spawns in, run him up to kill you and start over. I got 10-11 done in one KOTH match. It's tedious, but the fastest way I've found with predictable spawn points. Might want to hold off working on this one, since they said they're going to change the requirement for it. pauly_27
For Doorman, using the piano after you get Jace is quicker. It's at the top of the stairs right after you open the bulkhead door after meeting Jace. It's not much, but it will save some time.
