Looks like that 'hot coffee' thing from San Andreas is going to bite Rockstar in the ass. Honestly, I couldn't be happier about it. Since it's not coming to 360, I hope they censor the shit out of it.

Really old news, but...

I think that its bullshit. Manhunt 1 was fucking amazing. And since MH2 is getting a AO ratings it means 2 things.

1. Wont go on shevles because stores refuse to sell AO games.
2. They're going to have to "fix" the game for the ESRB board, which does fuck all.

You can tell Im pissed off...

Yeah, besides it being old news, I think it's pretty reasonable anyway. I can't say I was surprised with an AO rating, it makes sense.

But what does piss me off is the fact that gaming masterpieces like these get das boot because of an AO rating. I mean, there are a lot of underlying messages in games like these that express real points. And that exerience will now be less because they're going to have to change the game to fit the needs of the ESRB. It's a dirty shame, but it's how the gaming world goes 'round.:(

Jesus this is at least a month old.

Why wish they'd censor it just because it's not coming to the 360? I still wanted to play it on my Wii.

I'm not too surprised really. I think the media in general's targeted Rockstar specifically after the Hot Coffee incident. I think it's partially Rockstar's fault for not explaining the situation better. They should have just came right out and said that the content wasn't meant to be in the game, and it was only accessible by hacking the game on the PC.

Either way, they're going to have to change the game to make it get an M rating.

I remember a game called Thrill Kill for the PS1 years ago that got an AO rating and never got released in the US. I had a "copy" of the game that my brother bought in Korea when he was stationed over there, and I've gotta say, it certainly deserved the rating. It made Mortal Kombat look like child's play. I remember it sucking pretty hard too, which may have been another reason they never bothered changing it for the M rating.

Who cares though? Manhunt was an amazing game. It was rated 'M', so that doesn't mean that just because they have to cut it down to an 'M' means it's going to suck.

Really the AO rating has lost all meaning. The ratings that are supposed to help people make purchasing decisions are causing people to not even be able to make the decision anymore.

Besides, was the 18+ rating even that necessary? Most places you have to be 18 to buy even M rated games, including Walmart, I don't even look young and I've been carded.

Since it was basically "banned" in the US and literally banned in many other places, other publishers, not just Rockstar are taking notice. The sequel to Condemned (which IS coming to 360) has already undergone changes to avoid the same fate. So not caring about the issue because this certain game isn't coming to xbox isn't seeing the entire picture.

well even since this is old..

Manhunt 2 will now only be available via online stores more than likely or little boutique stores.

Walmart, Target, Gamestop, and alot of the major chain stores WILL NOT stock AO rated games. which means if you want to play it you will have to BUY it because 99% of rental stores like blockbuster, and hollywood video dont stock AO games either.

online stores like best buy and circuit city are so easy 2 bypass...

wen i bought shadowrun the only thing it said was-

"This game is rated M for Mature. Are you over the age of 17?"

Hmmmm.. I wonder if me, a 14 year old said no and didnt get the game, hmmmm..

I WONDER :)

They cannot even do that either sadly. Sony and Nintendo said nearly a month ago they do not support AO rated games so they will not be allowed on the console. When MS was asked what they would do they also said they do not support AO rated games.

They could censor the game a little to get it to M and it should be fine , Manhunt 1 was awesome and I thought it wasn't THAT bad compare to some movies. It was brutal in your face sometimes but hell it is no worse than watching movies. Plus it is MEANT for adults the difference between M ( 17 ) and AO (18) is one fucking year.

How stupid is that?

If you have fuzz on your nuts you should be able to play Manhunt 2. AO or not!

I don't see what the real trouble is all about. Material that is suited for adults have been perused by 10 yr olds. GoW is mature, but all you see are people under the age of 17 playing it. It's like the game stores really don't card for anything at all. What's the point of ESRB? Otherwise, if selling an AO game is an issue, it shouldn't be with the retailers. It should be with the parents. They should make a concerted effort to keep their kid from being exposed to it instead of making it a crotch hair from being illegal to sell for no reason at all.

Yes it is, you won't be able to get it... No company will allow it to be released for a system.

Thanks.

I actually don't mind companies banning a game like this. I mean it's too real. 99% of other games have lots of fantasy value in it even though they are filled with gore, aka gears, who just blows up from a shotgun blast, mortal combat, i don't think anyone can just rip a heart out or a head off in one shot, etc. etc. Manhunt 1 was too much and the second would probably be even worse. I got a little kid to worry about now ;) Even though at my local gamestop today they still had Manhunt 2 boxes on the shelf for pre-order? hmm? Maybe they are going to release a more scaled down version?

Just a FYI, a direct hit with a shotgun will tear someone to meatloaf just like it does in Gears.

I never got to play Manhunt, I always wanted to, mainly because of all the controversy, now it looks like I wont get to, cause I dont have my original box anymore.

If they dumb this game down to please the ESRB board, it will be a disgrace to the original game... which was a work of art. I wish they could just release it as intended.

But seriously, Isn't M rated games soposed to be for "adults" anyway. Do you know how many people play M rated games when not 17? I have been playing them since I was like 10 or 11 and my brothers have too. The game must have been pretty bad to get the AO.

By the way, my mom got carded when she bought me Oblivion and SCDA :)

It should. We'd have much better parents and youth. It's like parents who send their kids to school and expect them to become educated as though it isn't their job to educate them being the parent and all.

It's the parent's job to make sure what is suitable for their child. They shouldn't just try to manipulate the market to cater to their needs. I don't see any of those same parents voting against the porn industry because the ones who would are usually the parents that would filter what their child does in the first place.

Just because a game is rated AO doesn't mean it shouldn't be sold to the public. What happened to the free enterprise system?

Tussell
07-31-2007, 09:41 PM
It could be sold to the public. The game company's just don't want to hold it under their name.

I REALLY don't want to know how you know this  But I really don't think the gears animation is realistic in any way shape or form. Definitely fantasy violence there.

She probably had to get rid of an exboyfriend the hard way. ;) And I have seen a living thing taken apart with a shotgun at close range and the results are NOT pretty.

Seriously though I I think companies need to get their heads out ...where you know where. Come on if the game is good why not sell it?? I honestly do not see why have a AO game rating to begin with unless. I think the AO rating should be reserved for pornigraphic games only. If it has this much (holding hand in the air) then give it an AO, but do not give it an AO just because of blood and gore and some nudity. Kids under 18 can get all of that they want anyways, it is called the internet.

Im a nurse. Ive seen things that a lot of you wouldn't believe.

And Im here to tell you that the animation is pretty stylized, but its not that far fetched.

Buckshot is meant to scatter, to do more damage. Just think about that.

Kids under 18 get enough of their garbage on the internet too!:p
I mean, I'm not surprised with an AO rating, like I said.
TO warriorpriest, games CAN be too violent. When games are set in present times, inwhich one is grusemly killing normal people that you'd see today, that's pretty bad for any undeveloped or immature mind. Games like that can warp people at any age.:(
