I know this may sound like a stupid question to some, but I just want to be sure.

With the HD revamped game coming out in a few days, can I expect to find that every dog tag in the PS2 version will be in the exact same location in the HD Xbox 360 version? Just had to ask. ;)

Without actually having the game released yet, its pretty hard for anyone to answer. However, from gameplay footage that we do have, it appears that gameplay for the most part is identical, so I would imagine that dog tags would be consistent between versions.

We can only hope, lol.

Okay, I just got the game about 2 hours ago and started a quick run on Very Easy. The names on the dogtags are different. However, the locations appear to be the same as they're listed in the PS2 guides on Gamefaqs.com and other sites.

Here is a list of all the tags, I've been using the EU guides and they've all been in the right places:

I would hope it wasn't the same. It'll take FIVE playthoughs to get them all.

The names might be different because I THINK Europe had their own set of named tags, and the US had theirs.

I might be wrong, but have you tried looking at a US Dog Tag list to see if the names match up?

Yes, I still have my old Sons of Liberty strategy guide from way back when the game was very first released on the PS2. The names on the tags are different from the guide too (With the exception of bosses).

I also took a look at the MGS 2: Substance dog tag list and those names appear to be same names as the original version.

I hate to say it, but IGN is wrong again.

See, there was a Europe Set, and a US set I believe. To add on to that, there is a 2001 set (original release of MGS2) and then a 2002 set (release of MSG2 Substance on PS2/Xbox.)

Now, I did some digging around on gamefaqs.com, and found a guide for Substance, and it's the SAME NAMES as in the HD release. (if you look at your dog tag viewer, you will see it says 2002).

In other words, using a dog tag game should be viable if you use say a substance version. I actually used a Europe original MGS2 tag guide on very easy and they were all exactly the same places, just the names were different.

Here is the guide list/chart of the dog tags. They match up perfectly with the HD release. That guide was last edited in 2003. So no, it isn't new hehe.

Well played, I commend you sir. I've successfully acquired all of the tags on every difficulty in the Tanker chapter thus far and all of these names match up. Also, I did see the year 2002 in the viewer.

Hey could anyone post at what point dog tags are missable/unobtainable?

Obviously at the Tanker/Big Shell split but wasn't sure beyond that.

Thanks to all for all your input an information for this game. Just a question though and forgive me for sounding stupid. For the cheevo "Great Dane" is it required to get ALL tags over ALL playthroughs? or just all tags for 1 playthrough. To me the description in the cheevo is a tad misleading.

Thanks to all for your help

It's all tags in all difficulties, although according to the roadmap, you don't need "all" of the tags, just all of the bonuses... As far as I can remember, the bonuses top off at around 325 or so....

Can anyone confirm?
