Saints Row The Third Challenge Guide
(Written by tripleb2k and Koopakiller64)

Here are the following 41 Challenges in the Game

Base Jumps Nailed (Complete 15 Base jumps)
After jumping off a building or out of a plane/helicopter, press Y to open the parachute. Press Y again and you’ll enter into a Base Jump challenge.
- An easy method for this is at the Airport. Grab a helicopter and fly up for about 6 seconds. Dive out and do a Base Jump. The mark should be nearly underneath you (may take a few tries to get the hang of it). The Helicopter should land back on the helipad. Repeat until you're done. If the chopper blows up, there should be a chopper on the helipad beside it.

Big Air Distance (Jump a total of 1524 Metres)
Finding Special Jumps located around Steelport will help a lot. It will likely come in time based on the amount of driving and high speed chases you will find yourself in through the game.
- If you're far enough in the game, the bridges should be raised around the middle island (Sunset Park and Loren Square areas) and you can keep using them as ramps. Just keep going back and forth over the bridges. NOS will help you make longer jumps.

Boats Destroyed (Destroy 25 Boats)
- If you want to get this out of the way, buy Rondini’s Boat Dock. Your boats will spawn there and you can destroy them. Drive around the block and come back. Your boats will respawn so you can destroy them again.

Cars Destroyed (Destroy 300 Cars)
This adds up fairly quickly as enemies usually arrive in a car or you’ll be asked to defend someone while destroying a never ending lineup of cars. Playthrough the story and this will come in time. You can also just go on a murder spree and destroy a crap load of cars for fun. Activities like Tank Mayhem will contribute as well.

Car Torpedo Total Damage (Cause 2000 Damage)
Drive a fast car and bail before crashing into a wall. I used the Wraith (in your garage after completing a mission) with nitrous.
- I suggest an Alley with a wall at the end to avoid any other collisions.
- Some players are reporting problems with the damage not being added (myself included). Avoid hitting other cars, A.I. and objects. Crashing straight into a wall and nothing else will count.

Carjackings (Car jack 250 cars)
Simply steal a car with a driver in it. For quick carjackings, run towards the car and press Y. It will make carjacking much faster.

Compliments Paid (Pay 50 Compliments)
Run up to gang members and give them your Compliment gesture :dright:. You can follow this up with your taunt and you can get those 2 challenges done quickly. Remember, this can NOT be done while the enemies are hostile to you. You must find them when they are walking around the city.

Decker Specialists Killed (Kill 50 Decker Specialists)
Decker Specialists are the fast moving females with the power hammer. They tend to spawn if you raise your Decker notoriety to 3 or 4 stars. When they start appearing try to ram them with a vehicle to knock them over and start emptying your SMG clips into them from the safety of your vehicle. If they get back up, knock em back down again.

Distance Traveled (Travel 762000 metres)
All forms of transport counts towards this, ground, air and boat. This won’t be like Mafia II where you’re done the game and you’re only 20% done. This will come near the end of the game or earlier (depending on exploration).
- The easiest way too boost this is to speed down the interstate in the Temptress or fly through the skies in a F-69 VTOL.

Emus Destroyed (Destroy 50 Emus)
Emus look like Smart Cars. They’re very small and appear randomly around the map.
- There are a few Survival games where you will fight mascots and they will drive these.
- When you find one, steal it and save it in your garage. Once it's saved, bring it outside and blow it to smithereens. Return to your garage and repeat.

Gang Ops Defeated (Defeat 32 Gang Operations).
Gang Operations will appear as a fast with a pink square in the background on your map. They usually contain 10 gang members or more. Most of these can easily be taken out with a helicopter in 2-3 shots or call in an air strike. There are a few tricky ones where Gang Ops are located on top of buildings where you will need a helicopter. However, most of these will be found easily by driving around the city while doing other missions.

Gang Members Taunted (Taunt 50 Gang Members):
Simply walk up to Non-Hostile gang members and taunt them :dleft:. This can NOT be done when the gang member are in the middle of a firefight. Although it’s pretty funny to taunt them while they’re shooting at you, it does not count. Police, Military or Stag do not count.
- After you take over gangs territory, they will appear around your Strongholds in very small groups. If you don’t have this challenge after the game is over, drive around your Strongholds and look for gang members. Taunt them and ran back inside to eliminate any hostility towards you. Go back outside and repeat.
- People have said this is glitched because taunts haven't counted. Make sure you're standing in front of the gang members so they see you. If they taunt you back and receive respect, it should count.
- IMPORTANT - For getting Gang Taunts after you complete the game, click this THREAD (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=345086) (Credit to: DeadlySinz86)

Grenade Kills (Kill 50 Enemies with Grenades)
You will be given an infinite amount of grenades in the Mayhem Activities. Throw your grenades at every officer and gang member that approaches you to quickly boost this challenge.

Headshots (Get 500 headshots)
Use the Shepard Pistol since it's very precise (though most guns will do the trick if you're close enough).

Helicopters Destroyed (Destroy 50 Helicopters)
Like "Cars Destroyed," You will likely get this by playing through the story.
- Upgrading your Annihilator (Rocket Launcher) to Level 4 will add a lock-on target feature.
- If you are feeling like a badass, go into the armory. There are usually 5-7 helicopters on the island. Also, there are 3-4 around the airport as well.
- You can also use a Tank or F-69 VTOL for easy kills.

Hoods Explored (Explore 18 Hoods)
Most of these will come from random exploration or the story. The fastest way is to fly around in a Helicopter close to the ground. Most hoods have stores in them so driving around to find out which store is where will likely gain you this challenge. However, there are some places like Port Pryor that do not have any stores located in them but a Stronghold later on.

Hostages Taken (Take 50 Hostages):
Hijacking a vehicle with a passenger will allow you to take them as a Hostage.
- You don't need to complete the challenge. Simply start the mini game and jump out. It will count as a Hostage taken (Thanks Petey247)

Human Shields Used (Use 150 Human Shields)
Anyone is fair game for this. You can use gang members, cops, enemies, little old ladies. Just run up to them and press Y.

Kill Brutes (Kill 30 Brutes)
Simply kill 30 Brutes. You will likely be going for this anyways since 1 of the achievements requires you to kill 50 Brutes. Brutes are often found with Gangs in later levels and also Professor Genki’s Reality Show.

No-Weapon Kills
Use you fists and kick some ass. The best way is to run towards an enemy and press Y. This is easily done on the random Gang members around Steelport.

Luchadore Specialist Killed (Kill 50)
These guys will carry a Grenade launcher that launch multiple grenades at once. They spawn around 3 star notoriety. They will also spawn often near the end of the game.

Near Misses (500 Near Misses)
The easiest way to do this is drive in the centre of the road. You’ll get near misses from cars coming towards you and besides you. Since driving in the centre is normally the quickest way to get around, this will come quickly just by exploration and playing through the game.

Mascots Killed (Kill 200 Mascots)
Mascots are around stillwater. They’ll be dressed up as Pop cans, Hotdogs, Johnny Gat suits, etc. Kill 200 of them.
- A few of the Survival missions will require you to fight multiple Mascots. You can easily get 60-75 Mascot kills in Time Survival. Once again, this Survival call appears to be random.
- Replaying Genki activities will also boost this quickly.

Multi Kills (500 Multi Kills)
Blowing up cars or helicopters with multiple enemies inside, throwing grenades into a crowd, etc will all count toward this. Use Rockets and Grenades when you have them to make this challenge go by faster. If not, aim at cars enemies are hiding behind to blow them up and get some easy kills.

Morningstar Specialists (Kill 50)
Morningstar Specialists are the snipers in the helicopters. They can be annoying to kill individually so try and destroy the helicopter so you kill 2 at once. They usually appear around Notoriety level 3.

Nutshots (Shoot 25 enemy Nuts)
Nutshots can be annoying at times because enemies will position themselves with their leg blocking their sack. Simply aim at the crotch and fire!

Oncoming Lane Distance (Drive 30480 metres into oncoming traffic)
When driving on the highway, try to drive in the opposite lane. On smaller roads, try to stick your car as far to the left as possible. Drive on the wrong side of the road whenever you can (you get rep points too so you may as well).

People Run Over (Run over 500 People)
Drive around on the sidewalks and have fun. This is another challenge that will likely come to you quickly as the A.I. in this game is pretty dumb and never gets out of the way.

Powerslide Time (Powerslide for 300 seconds)
When turning at a high rate of speed, press A for the hand break and you’ll enter a power slide. The easiest way to do this is with a motorcycle on the airport runway. When working on the Wheelie Challenge, try and Powerslide in a large circle. It may take a few tries but you’ll get a rhythm going where you’ll Powerslide for 10-15 seconds at a time. If you get enough speed going down the runway, start a powerslide and if done right, you'll be able to go much longer.

Shortcuts Found (Find 50 Shortcuts)
Shortcuts are often going through alleyways or in between buildings/houses. You'll receive a small notification saying "GPS Shortcut unlocked." If you see a clear view to another road going through an alley, etc, drive through it because it likely counts. There are over 263 in the game so having to find only 50 is a good deal.

Stag Commando’s Killed (Kill 25 Commando’s)
There will be a mission later in the game called Air Steelport where all the enemies will be Stag Commando’s.
- If you complete the game and don't have this challenge, head to the large park in the centre island. Kill the Stag there to raise your notoriety. Around notoriety level 4, Stag Commando's will begin spawning.

Survival Completed (Survive 26 Survival missions)
These happen randomly. After standing around for a few moments, you will receive a call that another Gang, Police or Mascots are nearby and you need to take them out. You will have to survive a couple waves of enemies. Survival works in 2 ways
- Time: Waves have time limits. Simply survive. They become more difficult so having crew with you can be helpful. Sometimes, your gang will randomly come in later rounds to help you out.
- Kills: Waves will be determined by kills. You will need to get anywhere between 6-15 kills. The middle waves sometimes require more kills. Make sure you have a good team with you as other gang members do NOT come in later rounds.
- If you complete the game with all areas in your control, just wait 5-10 minutes and you'll receive a phone call.

Stoppie Distance (Stoppie for 305 metres)
This is the reverse of Wheelie. Instead you want to break and press forward on the left-stick. Working on this at the airport along with the Wheelie Challenge is a good move. You can get this done in a few runs down the Airport runway.

Stores Robbed (Rob 15 Stores)
Upon entering a store, draw your weapon and point it at the clerk. You'll need to keep your gun pointed on them the whole time or else they'll drop to the floor instead of getting the money.
- Find 2 stores you own near each other. Rob one store over and over again while you use the other one to get the cops or gangs notoriety to 0 again.

Streaking Time (Streak for 600 Seconds)
When you are in your crib, open your wardrobe and remove all clothing. Run outside and press down on the d-pad. You will begin the streaking mini game. It doesn’t matter how far you get in the game, you just have to streak for 600 seconds. Should take 10 minutes to complete.

Tanks Destroyed (Destroy 25 Tanks)
At Police Notoriety level 5, Tanks will spawn. Be sure to have a lot of Rockets. If not, hijack the Tank and destroy everything in sight. Fun and destructive. Tank Mayhem is another good way to complete this.

Two-Wheel Distance (Drive 762 Metres)
- When you are on a double highway road (like the ones linking the islands) simply drive the car over the barrier as half the car hanging over the side and the car will be in a tilted position, then gently drive.. With a little training you will get the hang of it... I scored around 50-70 meters each time (Thank you UnholyShinigami)

Vehicle Mod Shop (Spend $20000 on cars at Rim Jobs)
Steal random cars and take them in to Rim Jobs. Get a paint job or minor changes. Everything helps.

Vehicle Surfing Time (Vehicle Surf for 600 seconds):
Jump onto the hood of a car and press Y. Try to keep the left stick in the middle of the bar. Too far to the left or right will cause you to fall off.

Wheelie Distance (3046 Metres)
I strongly recommend doing this at the airport. Since there are no cars, pedestrians or airplanes on the runway, you’ll have a long open track to complete this.

Windshield Cannon Distance (Fly 304 Metres Total)
- Do this during the Insurance Fraud activity. The physics are pretty loose you'll smash through the windshield much easier. You will also control your character while flying giving you a few extra metres.

Gang Members Taunted (Taunt 50 Gang Members):
Simply walk up to Non-Hostile gang members and taunt them. This can NOT be done when the gang member are in the middle of a firefight.

As I said in another thread, this is not true. I've taunted enemy gang members who were shooting me and received taunting credits occasionally. It's pretty much just as unreliable as taunting gang members who aren't shooting at you.

I've never had success in combat. I've tried a few times beside gang members that weren't hostile without success but instantly ran in front of them to try again. It always worked when I was standing in front of them. I'd get the 'taunting' respect in the corner saying I did it. Maybe it's just a few people but it is true. Because you haven't had luck doesn't mean it's not true for everyone.

I like your Car Torpedo explanation, gonna try that tomorrow. Having a horrible (yet hilarious/fun) time trying to ram my car into other vehicles, hooray!

If others are like me and have been trained since forever to aim at the head, "Nut Shots" may not come easily. After the main story I would try to snipe gang members in the balls and no luck. What worked for me was to return to the wonderful Professor Genki's and his Super Ethical Reality Climax. For some reason it was fairly easy to get nutshots on the mascots in the one I chose (forget which). I believe I was dual wielding the silver pistols with glorious infinite ammo, and I would walk up to them at medium/close range, aim for balls and POW, one-shot-one-kill-one-testicle-left. A final tip, these mascots are not old men with saggy balls, aim a bit higher than you think you may need to (perhaps they're sagging their costume bottoms? who knows)

You do not need to complete the hostage diversion to make it count towards the hostage challenge...

I have 5 taunts so far and all 5 have been from taunting gang member who weren't attacking me. Later on in the game, I had an infinite spawn on one of the Gang Operations. Everytime I set them on fire (inc. bullets) or killed them, I could taunt them. I got about 2 x15 taunt chains going and they didn't add up to the total :(

You can both try to tell me I'm wrong all you want, but I know what happened in my own game. I have successfully taunted gang members who were shooting at me and it counted towards my challenge total. Keep lying to people and saying it can't be done all you want, I'll be here telling people the truth.

Hello i need help i have gain control off all of steelport 100% but i forgot about the challenges for taunting gang members is there a way i can still do it without having to start a new game ?

YES! I just had to do the same thing, for about 43 taunts, here is what I did.

1. Travel to the following spot in Rosen Oaks: Follow the wide road that extends from the split two-way highway on the southwest corner of the island. Place a bookmark on this road, somewhere underneath the Meth Lab property. I placed mine on that wide road below the Meth Lab and above the entrance to the tunnel.

2. Travel to that location, if coming from the split two-way highway (west to east), you may even see a house with 3 Morning Star cars parked in front of it (although the gang members are rarely there). Cruise along the road, investigating the red-dots on your mini map. If they're cops, let them be, if they're Morning Star (red/black gang), proceed to step 3.

3. Taunt the gang member. Hopefully there will be another 1 or 2 in the area also. Once your taunt registers (even if it doesn't), kill all 2-3 Morning Star and try to get your notoriety up to 3-4 stars (infinite rocket launcher ammo FTW). Once you get to a high notoriety level and consistently have cars/trucks/choppers coming your way, proceed to step 4.

4. Set your GPS for the Friendly Fire location to your northwest. String along the baddies as you make your way here. Try to avoid cops and just keep the Morning Star following you and spawning. Once at Friendly Fire you will start the rinse and repeat cycle. Buy the Friendly Fire if you don't own it already.

5. It's best to have 2 gang cars (4-8 members) on hand when you begin. Also, I would routinely one-shot-rpg the SUV/trucks with Brutes in them as they make things messy (also shoot down choppers w/ specialist snipers). Easiest when dealing with sedans + foot soldiers. Okay, so you've got your 1-2 cars and 4-8 gang members. Slowly blow up one car with your pistols. An RPG blast will be powerful and blow up everyone in the area, leaving you no one to taunt. By destroying the cars to the smoking/fire stage, the gang members will give the vehicle some space before it blows, hopefully leaving 2-4 of them alive (the other car you left is just in case this first one takes everyone down to the grave). These 2-4 alive no longer have a car to flee in, so proceed to duck into the Friendly Fire (just need to barely cross through the doorway), head back out to the intersection, and taunt a gang member. Now depending on how many you have left w/o an escape vehicle, you can repeat this (duck into friendly fire, then taunt) on those other members (remember, taunting the same gang member twice will still yield retaliations and notoriety increase, but will not "score" you a Taunt for the challenge). Once you're out of freestanding gang members, start the cycle again by blowing shit up and getting them pissed. Wait to have 2 cars, slowly blow one with pistols, get 2-4 standing around, duck into friendly fire, taunt, friendly fire, taunt, etc.

It may take a little while but this is a reliable way to do this solo. As I stated in another thread you can go into co-op on your most recent SP save and everything will carry over, but this is how I got the vast majority of my taunts.

Just remember, have gang-only notoriety around a store you own, Morning Star is best (Decker and especially Luchador specialists are a bitch), take care of choppers and Brute vehicles, and don't leave gang members their vehicle to escape in (otherwise as soon as you enter FF or another store and lose your notoriety, they pack up and go and it's hard if not impossible to get the taunt in - destroy the vehicle with pistols to get a slow burn they can run away from). Finally, ALWAYS LEAVE 1-2 GANG MEMBERS so that you can kill them, boost your notoriety, and start the cycle again.

Good luck!

I've managed to do it a few times in combat but
never on a consistent basis. It looks like the game is just not that reliable when it comes to recognizing taunts in that siituation and counting them accordingly.

Good strategy, I went with the: start the hard snatch in this area and go after the limo which gets your notoriety up to 4 stars. wait till about 3 or so cars are arund and then manualy abort the activity. After that, the cars are still there for you to blow up. which leads to new notoriety. go to nearest store and from there it's smooth sailing...

I just did the Specialist challenges, here's some tips that are hopefully helpful in getting them quickly-

Decker & Luchadore - use one of the attack choppers to simply hunt down and kill one to build up notoriety, then hang around and wait for some more to show up. Find yourself somewhere where your back is safe (eg hover just off the edge of the island so you face them as they appear) and just blast away. Deckers will be quicker because at 4 stars you get 2 specialists per vehicle instead of one. A handy place to do the Luchadore one is just to the west of their casino down the bottom left of the map, their vehicles spawn on the bridge so you can just hold down the fire missile button and watch them explode.

Morningstar- you want to do this one on foot- at 5 stars the specialists (snipers usually in helicopters) are usually replaced by attack choppers, so your chopper gets taken out quickly. So instead get up to 3 stars and just shoot down the specialists, do this near a safe house so if you hit 4/5 stars you can reset and start again. Recommend the SMG with incendiary bullets because they take out choppers real quick.

I'm about 30% of the way through the game so I'm not sure if there are enough enemies in the storyline to do these challenges naturally, which is why I decided to get it out of the way sooner.

the morning star gang has helicopters that come in at 3-4 stars. with 0% bullet damage(and any others) you can stand there and rack up the needed aircraft kills.

mascotts also appear in prof. genkis reality climax activity, by the time youve played it 6 times you should have nearly enough kills. also seem to be abundant near stadium.

You're correct about the taunt. I should make that clearer in my guide.

The walking gangs will spawn randomly but they will NOT spawn nearly as much if you have control of a distract. Head to a distract you do not control and drive around. They'll start spawning in 2-3 members. Jump out and taunt.

For car torpedo, you get money from jumping out of your car and hitting lamps, mail, signs, street posts, etc. not from just driving your car into a wall.

EDIT: NM, you just replay the last mission to get STAG kills. Commandos are in STAG tanks and condors, 2 per vehicle. Pretty simple, I'm just a dork.

what i did for getting the taunts after completion was use one of the theft vehicles that gained immediate gang notoriety. I chilled out by a store and built up the notoriety allowing the gang members to gather, trying to destroy vehicles without getting kills. Pop into the store and go out and try to find the biggest group standing still and taunt. Kill all on the screen and let them build up again. Got about 2 to 3 taunts per go and didn't take long.

As I said, people were having problems with it and the only way it would count is smashing their car into a wall after bailing. If it still works by crashing into objects, that's great. I'm pointing out a glitch some people are having.

I haven't tested this out but saw it in another thread. Go to Sunset Park. There is a small camp where the STAG remains after beating the game. You'll have to raise your notoriety level to level 4 I think.

Great Guide so far dude!

A few things you could add:

Powerslide Challenge - Go to the airport, grab the Infuego gang car that's always there (if not grab on and go there). Find the most open section of the Airport hold reverse and the poweslide button and left or right on the steering and you'll basically continue to powerslide forever unless you stop or hit something.

The Specialists - I found a really easy way of doing this. It takes a little prep but it was a walk in the park once done. This method will also let you work towards the Brutes achievement, The cars destroyed, The helicopters destroyed, the multikills and tanks destroyed.

Step 1: Go to Saints HQ (the penthouse) and start some sh*t outside with the Police. When a bulldog (Humvee with machinegun) turns up steal it and use it to cause more mayhem until the Tanks turn up. Steal the Tank and quickly stash it in your Garage. Go into the HQ to get rid of notoriety.

Step 2: Go and buy the Rim Jobs mechanic in whatever area the specialists you want to destroy control. Then retrieve the tank from it.

Step 3: Go and pick a fight with your chosen gang all the while making your way back to the Rim Jobs.

Step 4: Once at Rim Jobs keep up the fighting taking out specialists when they appear. You should be able to take a lot of punishment in the tank but every so often drive in and get yourself repaired. When you've got all the specialists you need run into the office of the Rim Jobs and voila no more notoriety. Rinse and repeat.

Note: I also found I got a lot of Morningstar Specialists in certain Tank Mayhem activities by ignoring the police and trying to annoy the gang members more.

Mascots: The Easy Professor Genki S.E.R.C's are good for this since you'll be earning an easy $3k and maybe 15 kills each run which take about 1min when you've done it a few times.

Store Robbery: Buy the store, walk in, rob it, walk out, walk back in. Easy way to lose the cops.
Hope some of this is helpful!

I started completing the challenges after I beat the game. What you can do to get the specialist kills or 50 taunts, just go to a friends game who hasn't beaten it yet, get him to buy any store, get a 5 star gang notoriety, walk into the store loose all the stars, then start taunting, they WILL NOT shoot at you, you need to be the host taunt them for them to get mad & start shooting. IT WORKS. I literally just did it.

Here's an easy way to get all of the following (11) challenges at once: cars destroyed, specialists killed, grenade kills, headshots kills, helicopters destroyed, human shields, tanks destroyed, brute kills, no-weapon kills, multi kills, nutshots ---

Just wait until your respect level reaches 48-50 and purchase all the Damage and Combat upgrades - you'll be pretty much invincible and have infinite ammo. Get your notoriety high and just stand in the middle of the street taking out all the vehicles with your rocket launcher/grenades.

You'll be doing several challenges at once this way - for example the Morning Star gang sends helicopters and shooting one down will give you a "multi-kill", "specialist kill", and "helicopter destroyed". That's three challenges you're working toward at once.

And since you're taking no bullet damage thanks to the upgrade, you can just walk up to everyone and use them as human shields, or beat them down without weapons, etc.

It looks like a lot but most of this will be done quickly IF you do them during the main playthrough.

For the Emu challenge, one of your vehicle theft cars is the emu. With it selected as my target I went to the designated area and blew them all up until the challenge was completed. Then, grabbed one to turn in to the chop shop. Infinite vehicle spawns ftw.

You guys just made me realize that you can always do the specialists and Taunts. Do like what Mr. Wafu and headdragon said.

1. Start a gang related challenge like a Snatch in the area.
2. Raise hell.
3. Get lots of the gang to show up. kill all specialists if needed.
4. Abort activity. Taunt gang
5. Run to nearest shop.
6. Run out and taunt gang.
7. Repeat 6 as needed.

Thanks for giving me the idea guys.

Ahh. So it is to avoid crashing into other cars. I thought the purpose was to try and smash as much stuff as possible. Again thanks.

This thread will help me get that last couple of challenges I need. Mainly need Deckers/Luchadores Specialists, Taunting gangs, Torpedo, some more hostages, and one or two others.

A little tip I found to farm the headshots is that after you crash the second plane and you see a "zombie" cut scene you can return to the island, climb up a set of stairs and snipe away, zombies count for headshots and from what I experienced they couldn't climb the stairs.

The taunting is the ONLY challenge giving me trouble. I just played through 5 star firefights with every gang and must've had 100 taunts in the end and my counter says I have 2. Furthermore, I tried to do some taunts in Deckers die (mission) and got around another 30 there, all to which didn't count either. As I said in another thread, this is not true. I've taunted enemy gang members who were shooting me and received taunting credits occasionally. It's pretty much just as unreliable as taunting gang members who aren't shooting at you.

Going to go ahead and call shenanigans on this one as well. A buddy of mine and me both tried this on 2 different accounts and recieved no credit after a 30 minute trial period.

try doing this into a wall instead of other cars. sometimes when you hit other objects it won't be counted. there are a few challenges that do this. im not saying that hitting other cars doesn't work but the challenge counter seems to be slightly temperamental.

How do you get the taunting gang members challenge? I've completed the story so I'm not seeing a lot of them about, but when I get calls for survival, when ever I taunt them it doesn't seem to count :( I only have 3 / 50

You cannot taunt when the gang member is firing at you.

Have you done all the vehicle thefts yet? If not, go do the Kaneda (motorcycle one). It immediately spawns a 4-star gang rating. Ride it to a shop you own, and park it somewhere.

As the gang members close down on you, shoot their cars until it begins to show some fire, but don't destroy them (the explosion may kill off some gang members). The gang members should run away from the car as it catches fire. The purpose of doing this is so that they leave their cars, and never go back into it.

Do the above as much as possible until you accumulate a large number of gang members. 6-10 is easy to do.

Walk into your shop now to reduce the wanted rating to zero. Walk back out and you'd see plenty of gang members outside. Since their cars are toasted, they won't be driving off, and will be simply walking outside. Run up and taunt. Of course, they'll start shooting at you. Kill off the one(s) that you've taunted, run back into the shop to reset wanted level, and then run out to taunt again. Rinse and repeat until no one else is left.

Hop back onto the bike now, and the 4-star wanted rating comes back. Do the above until you get your 50 taunts. If, somehow you can't gather enough, destroy the bike, and then restart the activity and repeat the above.

= Unlimited taunts after 100% Steelport.

Ah.. I've done all thefts but I'll see if I can select them to do them again. I've managed to get the count up to 20 somehow :/

Thanks neeker.

Probably something already mentioned but for those who have issues finding enugh EMUs for the appropriate challenge, I found an easy way to get the 50, just hijack one, bring it to Rim Jobs, give it a quick change, garage it, drive outside, trash it, hope back in, grab it again. Hope this helps, and not waste forum space =)

I found the easiest way to get the Emu challenge to do survivals. Mascots come in with Emus and it was really easy to just throw infinite frags and see the challenge meter go up. Also good way to kill some mascots for the other challenge..
But it's random who you are against in the survivals but I got lucky and didn't have to keep respawning Emu from the garage

Yes you can, just stay put somewhere and wait for the call. Should get it every 5-10 minutes if you're not in a mission.

Try saving your game and clearing your cache, then reloading to see if it fixes your counter. If that doesn't work, try recovering your gamertag. Could just be one of the many glitches in this game.

I've cleared my cache and reloaded the save file and it still did not rise.

You can both try to tell me I'm wrong all you want, but I know what happened in my own game. I have successfully taunted gang members who were shooting at me and it counted towards my challenge total. Keep lying to people and saying it can't be done all you want, I'll be here telling people the truth.

That is awesome that it worked for you but neither one of them is lying. I had to keep running back into one of my own stores to lose the notoriety and even if they were in combat with the police it still didn't count.

Glad everyone is finding this guide helpful. Most of it is pretty straightforward but some challenges can be done pretty easily with the right trick.

Hopefully the new DLCs don't come with any new challenges, just achievements. lol.

If you're still having trouble with gang taunts, I attached a link to a very helpful thread on that. You can also go back through some of the pages. I tried to get all the tips but I may have missed 1 or 2.

Another trick for the 300 seconds powersliding I discovered messing around with a friend... get a Solar (I had a standard off the street model). Shoot the tires out of all wheels so you're riding on rims. Then hold the gas and A to draft and the direction pad to either side to do a donut. It should rack up practically infinitely unless you bumped into something. I believe at one point I had 17 seconds... and that was in an intersection with 5 star Morningstars after us.

The last survival won't come up until after you do the mission for the mayor (trying to keep it spoiler free). Also, I think you have to be on foot, with no wanted level, and it helps if you do not have a weapon equipped.

One of the tank mayhems (forget which one) has Emus as priority targets - you can keep playing that one instance to rack them up as well.

My longest powerslide was 60+ seconds.
Used a Phoenix and just held the handbrake and accelerator and drove in larger donuts. Could have gone longer but I bumped into something.
As long as you have a wide enough space, it's no problem.

So lets start this out by saying that when you are in co op or your single player game what ever kills you get or hoods you explore it saves to your stats whether or not you save the game.

Now in my single player game i had 17/18 hoods explored, i just needed one hood to complete the challenge.

Then i had joined a friends game and explored the last hood netting me the challenge for exploring 18/18 hoods

However i did not want to save what i had done in my friends game, so i just left the game without saving and went back to my single player game.

Ok now here is the problem, when i went back to my single player game, i noticed i did not have the challenge complete for exploring all 18/18 hoods since i didnt save the progress from my friends co op game, BUT in my stats under neighborhoods explored, it says i have explored 18/18, (because your stats save no matter if you save or not or if your in your own game or your friends).

Making it impossible to complete the challenge again since my stats for hoods explored is already at 18/18, is there any way to fix this?( is it one of those glitches that the game devs didnt think of and theres nothing i can do about it?

I'm not sure if anyone else made the same mistake as me but when i played campaign i didnt really do many of the challenges so i was stuck at the end not being able to kill the luchadore specialist or taunt 50 gang members, but i got lucky! I'm not sure if i glitch the game doing this but it works i just finish doing the taunt 50 gang members and killing the luchadore specialist...

For the luchadore socialist i started doing the survivor challenges, the first time i got to fight the luchadores i started to kill the specialist even after the survivor challenge was done, I kept killing them and more would spawn.

For the gang member stuff here is what i did, i waited for my phone to ring after i picked the phone up and the map would show me the location i had to go to, i would save the game then load the same file, then i would walk around and gang members would randomly appear, I'm not sure if someone has talked about this before but if not and you are stuck where i was you can try it, now only if there was a way to get the stag commandos to spawn it would be awesome, ill try a few things and report back

Yes, I know the "Taunt 50 Gang Members" challenge seems rather glitchy...but in my experience it is fucked up beyond belief.
Right...first i go to any random gang member on the street. They are not hostile towards me and they do not shoot at me.
I have no gang notoriety wahtsoever.
I compliment them first, they compliment me back, it counts towards the stats. All fine and dandy.
Then I taunt them (same gangmember) and they start shooting at me and I get 1 notoriety star.
The same thing happens if I taunt them first. Except then, I get 1 star straight away and have no chance complimenting them.
The taunts don't count towards the stats either.
I've tried taunting any gang member, mal or female, morningstars/deckers/luchadors. No success.
Does this mean I'll never be able to complete that challenge?
Coz' if so, then that is BULLSHIT.

Also:

Big Air Distance (Jump a total of 1524 Metres)
Finding Special Jumps located around Steelport will help a lot. It will likely come in time based on the amount of driving and high speed chases you will find yourself in through the story.
- If you're far enough in the game, the bridges should be raised around the middle island (Sunset Park and Loren Square areas) and you can keep using them as ramps. Just keep going back and forth over the bridges. NOS will help you make longer jumps.

Once again, this Survival call appears to be random

Big Air DIstance:
The birdges are raised now but they are restricted areas and stag soldiers and tanks will shoot me.
Will they disappear later, leaving the bridge raised?
If not, where are these special jump locations? I haven't seen any yet.

Mascots killed:
Do the guys in the bunny suits count? Ya know, the ones in the Genki game show challenges.

Some of the harder activities are kind of obnoxious. Assuming you can get it down to one activity left, by saving your one-use "City Takeover" bonus until near the end of your game, you can just use it on any of the areas and get any achievements related to those activities, then reload your game. Helpful if you've decided you're not going to get the full 1000 but still would like to get as many points as possible anyway.

Always stay behind the designated target (backwards with :ls:) until you're almost ground-level. When you're about to land, move forward with the :ls: and land in the center.

It's really not that hard at all. Seeing as how you don't even have to land in the direct center of the target and it will still give you credit to the small amount of basejumps you are required to do; 15.

I got Big Air done by just driving a boat against the waves by that long bridge between the first island where Shaundi gives you the first crib and the huge tower.

I also followed the Store Robbery guide (buying Planet Saints near Rondini's Dock) but in between store robberies I kept running in and out killing the 6 mascots outside (5 out front, 1 round the side) and occasionally seeing 1 or 2 more mascots cowering INSIDE Planet Saints to kill.

Quick questions though, had the game since release day but haven't really played much until this week so since November, I've only completed two missions (so not very far).

* Where do I find a helipad with a helicopter I can use? I bought the airport as well as the hangar and haven't seen a single helicopter yet.

* I've completed almost half the Challenges but it still shows only 30. Do the rest (such as Specialist kills, shortcuts found etc) unlock as I progress through the game?

As you progress through the campaign, you will unlock hideouts which you can use to save your game, gather some ammunition, change your outfit, etc. Some of these hideouts are very large and have helipads on the highest level of the building.

Yes. Not only will more challenges be unlocked, but as will Assassination contracts and vehicle theft missions.

Also, I have to say, it's a lot easier to change clothes, weapons etc in this one now instead of the previous games where you had to run all over the crib interacting with different things.

Just a shame the radio stations or your mixtape don't play inside the crib unless that happens later on.

Seemed like when I stood around for 2 or 3 minutes without doing anything, and not being in a vehicle, I would get a survival call. So I would just let your guy stand on the street for a couple of minutes and you should get a call. I did all of mine during the main story tho, not sue exactly how it works after you finish that part.

As far as the power slide challenge goes, the absolute easiest way to do this (and rack up some early respect) is to grab a Kenshin crotch rocket. All you have to do to start a power slide with this thing is start by holding 'A' down pick a direction and slam on the gas. It'll start doing donuts and building up the slide meter. It can do this in a relatively small space, so just find a big intersection or an empty parking lot and start sliding. I got this challenge (and the achievement for completing my first challenge) before I even went to the armory.

I've never had success in combat. I've tried a few times beside gang members that weren't hostile without success but instantly ran in front of them to try again. It always worked when I was standing in front of them. I'd get the 'taunting' respect in the corner saying I did it. Maybe it's just a few people but it is true. Because you haven't had luck doesn't mean it's not true for everyone.

i found that you have to be close enough to them to have the 'human shield' dialogue up. firefight or not, shooting or not - i got it pretty much every time i tried it that way.

Any hope for me to get the 50 luchadore specialists besides waiting for survivals? Got 100% city take over so they aren't any around.

i got mine by having a Survival mission pop up after i had the hood on 100%. I had it late in the game, so i had unlimited rockets & was more or less invincible to damage. just sat there & punked them for like 15 minutes.

Found a good way, to do the "Taunt 50 gang members" challenge.

I made a basejump of one of the high hideouts and as i dropped on the street, there was a small group of gang members. I taunted one, and then the others attacked me. I killed some till I got 3 notoriety stars. Then I walked as near as possible to one of the enemys. After they slapped me I started the taunt move. And it counted towards the challenge.

Therefore: You can taunt already fighting gang members, if you let youself slap and then taunt.

Gang Members Taunted (Taunt 50 Gang Members):
Simply walk up to Non-Hostile gang members and taunt them :dleft:. This can NOT be done when the gang member are in the middle of a firefight. Although it’s pretty funny to taunt them while they’re shooting at you, it does not count.I'm sorry but this CAN be done in a fire fight maybe not in some people's games but it definitely worked in mine.

Hopefully this hasn't been posted before, if you want an easy way to kill Specialists I advise you to do what I did. Early on in the game you will have Vulture heli, go to a gang operation and destroy it and then find some place and hover over the road at height where you can see the enemy cars. Just keep destroying cars and soon you will have the specialists kills, plus you will work your way up few other challenges like destroying cars, killing brutes, multi kills. This is I think the easiest way to do all those challenges.

EDIT: Also easy way to finish Run over 500 people challenge is to go to the island with the crashed STAG plane (wont spoil it for those who don't know what happens on the island) and just start running over 'people' without any hassle from police.

I've managed to do it a few times in combat but
never on a consistent basis. It looks like the game is just not that reliable when it comes to recognizing taunts in that siituation and counting them accordingly.

Enemies from different situations react differently to taunts. Enemies who were always going to be there in missions will never be taunted whereas any enemy on the street, hostile or not, will be taunt-able.

Personally I finished the game, then was doing some of the car theft missions and one of them gives you a 3 star decker rating, I finished the mission, killed the deckers and let them "Come At Me (christrout91)". Then I taunted the gang member and shot him in the head. Also killed the special deckers.

It wouldn't matter. As long as you are moving around Steelport, it adds on to the Distance Travelled challenge.

I'm sorry but this CAN be done in a fire fight maybe not in some people's games but it definitely worked in mine.

Worked for me during shootouts with rival gangs also.

Clearly something is wrong in your game then. You're the only one that was able to taunt with them shooting.

For what it's worth at this point, I managed it as well with no problems just now.

I'd responded to a survival that had morningstar as the enemy and I just walked up to everyone of them and taunted them before killing them.

It was difficult, as it would take a couple of tries before it registered, but it DOES work.

What I believe to be the case is that you have to be facing them head on and up close for it to count. When I was taunting the gangers walking around in the street I had the same issue, it only worked if I walked up to their face and did it, and then during combat I had to walk up to their faces again. Once I figured that out, I got all the ones I needed in about 5 minutes, which was about 25ish.

I know it doesn't mean much now really, but for anyone else joining in to play this game late like I am, it's good to know that you CAN taunt during combat and it still be successful.

Another good place to do the base jumps would also be the penthouse crib you steal at the start of the game. It is generally not to far away and you can just drop there :)

The very first penthouse crib is an EXCELLENT place to get the basejumping challenge.

My method:
1. Go onto the helicopter pad and dodge roll off of the left edge. Dodge rolling allows you to open your parachute more quickly, I think.
2. If you open your parachute fast enough, the base jumping target will be a straight shot down the street. No turning or anything needed. Just slow down your descent as needed.
3. Land the jump.
4. Steal a car and go back up to your crib.
5. Repeat!

If you do wait too long to your chute, the target will instead be one closer to the crib, requiring you to turn around and potentially miss it. I think it's more quick that searching for a helicopter/plane, flying, and risk having the target in some hard to reach place.

An even quicker way to do the above basejumping at the Saints Crib is to complete the jump, save progress, reload from that save (which puts you upstairs in the penthouse) Jump off and base jump, Rinse and Repeat.

Answer here : http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=345086&page=3

In fact, you can even compliment them while they are hostile by doing the same trick. The only thing is that the game won't display text (contrary to the taunt which is displayed, even when they are hostile) to show you it worked but if you go check in your stats, you'll see it worked.

I did 90% of the taunts required during a survival too, and did the human shield at the same time (killing each enemy taunted to know which one I taunted and which one I didn't)

Not sure if it has been said before, sorry not going to read through 7 pages of stuff. But Compliments can be done on regular citizens, just finished mine. Also, distance traveled to be honest is easiest with vtol flying in circles with rubber band on joystick while you watch a movie or such, just save every now and then. :)

Ok, so I just went from 6 taunts to 50 in about 5-10mins, all while being shot at. At first they weren't counting and I couldn't work out why. Eventually I realised that it only registers if you're right up close to them. Like basically nose to nose. And even then I sometimes had to press the taunt button a couple of times before it registered.

I doubt it will make a difference, but I'll add that I was fighting Luchadores.

It may or may not work for everyone, but it seems like a much quicker option for those struggling, so it's worth a shot.

I have the stoppie distance challenge at 1000/1000 feet, yet my game is saying that I have 30/40 challenges done when I should have 31/40.

How do I fix this?

Edit: I found a fix, I just went ahead and did some more stoppies and then I got rewarded. Go figure.

I was fighting the Morning Star with a friend, I just kept taunting them and I got it relatively quickly. Indeed, you have to be close to them. You'll get punched a few times but as soon as the taunting animation initiates, you should be fine.
