Double O Slevin
It's as simple as, I am absolutely horrible at defense, always have been, and in Blitz, even when I have a blitz play or what-have-you, I never seem to get to the QB fast enough. But when other players are on defense, no matter what play I choose, the defense is on me as soon as the ball is snapped, almost every time, untouched! I just don't get how it can be so one-sided on a game the both teams have almost the exact playbook. Any suggestions? A little friendly advice would much appreciated! ... And, I know this is Blitz, but seriously, if you are one of the people that just knocks down all the receivers at the start of a play, you are a DOUCHEBAG! The end. LUCKYMEWHEEEE
if u see the rushing hard b4 the snap he is most likely blitzing, u have to get rid of the ball right away within 1.5 econds, or u can double pas, pick a play where the runner runs a little side out route aka.a slip screen by the halfback, pass once, then pass again, sometimes that can buy u some time, if u dont know what i mean, practice with a play like turmoil, and pass to the running back on offense remember to use your turbo moves, spin, hurdle, and stiff arm

Suiken
OP, I find playing the safety to generally be the best way to play defense. I had the same problems as you in the beginning, but once I played the safety I was able to call 1 and 2 man blitz plays and not have coverage completely blown. My opponents are usually able to make short pass completions when I do this, but they struggle to get first downs. And the AI is actually pretty good at pressuring the QB on the blitz (unlike coverage, which it sucks at). Try it and see if it works. Puffy Ghost
Since I'm rather good at defense I'll give you some pointers on running it. If you're looking for an all out cheesy defense that will get you a lot of sacks, or your opponent will struggle to get first downs on, play Goal Line, all day long. All of your defenders will start in the box in tight coverage, and you'll blitz one man, so make sure you select one of your DB's or your Safety, your LB will always be the one to blitz. This defense will force your opponent to get rid of the ball quickly for small gains, and you'll get quite a few turnover on downs. Not only that, but if you're playing a guy that likes to sit in the pocket all day, he'll eat your lineman all day for his trouble. Coverage Defense. I RARELY run safe zone, it's too easy to get short and easy completions on, and if your opponent likes running under center plays your DB's will constantly get beat by the short passing game. Instead I run either Near Zone and play as the up lineman. If I'm playing as the up lineman I ALWAYS knock down at least one receiver, and then spy the QB, just so he can't take off and run for 15 yards. Alternatively you can knock down all your opponents receivers, which is easy to do if they're running deep routes, and eventually your linemen will sack the QB or he'll be forced to run. Coverage 2. I get the most sacks out of this defense because most players just don't see it coming. It works with either Near Zone or Med Zone, although Med Zone is preferable. Anyway, start off as your Safety because he's not obligated to cover anyone, and lineup directly across one of your opponents receivers. When he snaps the ball immediately knock that receiver down and blitz the QB, since most people don't bother Turbo Snapping you'll have an open lane to him for an easy sack. When they start getting rid of the ball more quickly, instead of blitzing the QB just drop back into coverage and look for INT's instead. As a general reminder if you're playing coverage based defense, sometimes your opponent will be able to sit in the pocket all day and wait for receivers to get open (especially when you have the lead and the CPU is helping them.) If this is happening to you (and it will) just remember that you CAN switch to your lineman, and as soon as you do mash the Turbo and X (or B) buttons to push your blocker out of the way and get to the QB, you might not get a whole lot of sacks, as it's pretty easy to see you coming, but at least you'll force your opponent to get rid of the ball faster than he wants, and more importantly before your coverage turns to sh*t.
