This information is compiled from various sources on the internet, and from Sony's Phil Harrison. You may find some information he said, or other info, not to be 100% accurate; however, he states what they have done with in guidelines, not what content providers will do.

GAMES:
PS3 Games - Reported to be completely region free. Sony's Phil Harrison has said, on numerous occasions, that games are region-free. He also said; "Software will be region-free, so developers can put games in the TV format of their choice."

PS2 Games - Region locked: Will only play in the region they are for (Same as DVD region code 1-6)

PSX Games - Same as PS2

MOVIES:
DVD MOVIE: Region Locked: Will only play in the region (1-6) they are for.

A/1 North America, Central America, South America, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.

B/2 Europe, Greenland, French territories, Middle East, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

C/3 India, Nepal, Mainland China, Russia, Central and South Asia.

The misconception is, BR Movies are REGION FREE; but think of it more as region liberal. Phil Harrison said; "Films, however, would remain limited to their regions of origin, as with movies released on the PSP's UMD format."

In Phil's presentation, he said that due to the high-storage capacity of Blu-ray Discs (BD) format, publishers would be able to release a single SKU worldwide, with all localized versions on a single disc. At the Q&A, Harrison said a BD, which can hold up to 50GB, will also be able to store various video formats (PAL, NTSC, SECAM) on one disc.

Note: Games from, the US, Japan, and Hong Kong, are in Blu-Ray region A/1, but the US games have (1) on the sleeve (insert), Japan (2), and Hong Kong (3), which corresponds with their respective DVD region numbers.

Leaked PS3 QnA Document
BDA specifications stipulate that all BD players, including PLAYSTATION 3, must incorporate region coding, and will be single region. It is up to content providers whether or not to apply region coding to their content - all PLAYSTATION 3 games will be region free and will therefore play on any PLAYSTATION 3 regardless of where it was bought.

If you read into the "It is up to the content providers...." Means, that Sony has followed the rules and regulations, it is on what the content providers will do.

Sorry to bump this up but I just got a PS3. All 4 of the games I've got so far have a region code on the case. Do games in the US also have region codes on them?

I'm wondering if it's the same as the PSP which games are region coded but the console itself will play games from any region.

Cool. So I wont have to wait months for games when Sony decide to screw over Europe and release things in the US way before.

Just something I don't get. I have a PS3 20GB which I bought in the US, I got Talladega Nights with it aswell, works fine. When it was released over here I sigend up to Playstation Network, got sent Casino Royale, and that works fine, so is there really a region lock on Blu-Rays or am I a lucky sod?
