Summary:
Epic president Mark Rein said on Tuesday that Unreal Tournament 3 for Xbox 360 will likely have less game content than its PS3 counterpart due to Microsoft's limiting disc size.

"We'll compress some things. But you know, we may have fewer maps on the 360 version... Blu-Ray has definitely given us a lot of legroom," Rein said while speaking (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=170133) at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival.

He added, "If you think down the road, well maybe the next UT beyond this one, on Blu-Ray disc, we might fill the whole damn disc with all the cool stuff the mod makers make."

In addition to confirming both Sixaxis support and the exclusive November release on PS3, Rein also dished on PC/PS3 multiplayer possibilities.

"I'd say it's unlikely...there's no technical reason you can't do it, there's a lot of reasons why it might not make sense [such as varying gameplay speeds]... that's not to say we'll never have it, but I don't believe we're going to ship with it as a feature."

Well, they could just release maps on the XBLM.. unless MS makes you pay for it.

That's not really a big deal. I think that it's still going to be a great game. And like you said they can just release the maps on marketplace. If they don't fit on the disc, they'll fit on my hard drive.

If this is a problem now, think about how big of a problem it could be 2 years from now when games are even more advanced.

In a way, you could see this as Epic being the ones limiting UT3 on the 360 if you consider they could simply release it on two DVDs, or as the OP says simply make the leftovers freely downloadable via XBLM. Hardly rocket science.

Not defending DVD being a limitation which it obviously can be, merely saying that shouldn't be end of story.

A few maps missing doesn't bother me, but without user created mods there's little point getting this for the 360 anyway.

It sounds like EPIC is trying to pull a fast one. Maybe they're trying to stay in the good graces of Sony, maybe there's some kind of money deal going on, but getting around this space issue doesn't seem very hard. I'm really beginning to dislike EPIC as a company more and more since the Silicon Knights allegations, the unnamed developer allegations following SK, and now this.

Maybe they're trying to keep all the attention on Gears seeing as how it is probably gonna be the face of the company now?

If disc size is a factor there will probably be some sort of install worked out of the matter, most ps3 games are able to be directly installed to the consoles HD and most require a partial install of some sort so why wouldnt our 360's not be capable of doing a similar thing, so what if they've gotta ship a 2 disc game.

The problems with installing to a HD is that MS don't insist on them being standard across their SKUs... Thus all Arcade/Core owners would be left out. Not to mention installing to a HD wouldn't solve the problem, because the install disk is still the "limiting" factor. Installing to a HD merely helps with loading times and the like, so the only real option is multiple disks or DLC.

how would you run a 2 disc game? and if they are having problems with this new game they might pull something like this for gears of war 2!!!!!!!!! that would be some fucked up shit

Well, they could just release maps on the XBLM.. unless MS makes you pay for it. Oh they will. Remember how epic wanted to make the GoW maps free or whatever? bullcrap. GRRRR well I can deal with that.. I don't like games with too many maps anyways it makes it too confusing.

I don't care if i have to buy some maps on the market. UT3 is the main game that i am looking forward this year and i don't want them to mess it up by craming extra maps on the disc when i could just download them on the Xbox live marketplace for some points, Or just wait and get them for free.

I heard this, that's why I was getting a PS3 in a few weeks.

They could just have a second disc to download the extra maps onto the hard drive. Or just release the extra maps for free via xbox live marketplace. I don't see why this is a problem.

Yeah, just make the MP stuff all DLC, that way you dont have to worry about it. If you do MP then you need to have online and to be able to dl stuff, makes sense to me

That article was made before they even began porting it to the xbox 360. The 360 version is actually going to have a few extra things in it. (sadly, no mods yet though)
