I liked Silent Hill 3 the most. The game had a physical antagonist, I liked Heather as a main character more than James, and the combat seemed better in SH3. I admit, SH2 had the best plot, but in my eyes, story isn't everything, and the bonuses SH3 gives makes it my favorite. Also, the atmosphere in SH3 is more horror. Alternate Brookhaven FTW :)

I didn't play those games as much as I did with the Resident Evil Series but I still now how cool the third part was, so yeah my vote goes to SILENT HILL 3.

shattered memories, i wish there were more horror games in that style that isn't just catered to excessive amounts of blood and gore to make it scary.

SH Homecoming was my first and I rented it, so I never got to finish it.

Silent Hill 2. The first one I had played was the first, but it didnt really effect me as much as the second game. Loved the story and everything about it, favorite game of all time. I really wish they would remake the first game in the way they remade the first Resident Evil game for the gamecube. Shattered Memories was bad, in my opinion. Silent Hill 4 comes in as my second fav. I really did not understand the hate that game got. Alot of people complained about "clunky controls" and "Camera Angles"...yet the first 3 games had the exact same thing. The story was pretty great as well, a serial killer that uses the other world of silent hill to kill people in? that was great..

I decided to choose Silent Hill 3 because it's a hard choice to make and am too tired to spend an hour thinking.

Silent Hill is really scary, but the gameplay wasn't the best, neither was the enemy design... still a fantastic game though!!

Silent Hill 2 has a fantastic enemy design and beautiful story, but personally, I think the gameplay was a bit hit and miss in places... wasn't scary really, except for a few little bits and pieces. Plenty of disturbing things about it though.

Silent Hill 3 has excellent gameplay! The game is pretty damn scary, it has a good enemy design, Heather is a cool protagonist and the story expands from Silent Hill.

Silent Hill 4: The Room is constantly bashed... BUT I LOVE IT!! When you're in Henry's flat (apartment), you never know what's going to happen next. By the end of the game, I was too scared to set foot in the flat, in case something jumped out of the cupboard or something -- I never once set foot in the bathroom once you heard that noise from there, either! LOL. The one problem with Silent Hill 4: The Room is that outside of the flat, the gameplay is quite lacking. The story is nice though and 'Resting Comfortably' is a fantastic bit of music.

Never played Origins or Shattered Memories. And I wish Homecoming was never made.

SH1 for me. Had played nothing like it before, it scared me senseless and I dreaded playing it, yet that was why I wanted to play it. No game had caused me to be afraid to play it on my own. I was only 13 at the time mind you, but no game has been able to do that since.

Yes, Ceris. Finally, the first person I've seen who also loves SH3 more. SH3 is my favorite too :)

2 without a doubt, I was 14 when I first played it, just old enough to understand most of it, and still way to young to not be scarred by it. I love them all though

Silent Hill 1. had a bigger impact than any of the others on me. not saying the others are inferior in any way.

Voted for Silent hill 3 since it's the only one i've completed. Also played Silent hill one demo in the past. Looking forward to playing the second one on the collection.

Love em all. My personal favorites are SH4 and SH1. SH1 made the town feel like a complete town. There was an element of exploration that wasn't as present in the other games; objectively, I would say SH1 is by far the best in the series.

On the other hand, SH4 was just so awesome to me personally. The first person apartment segments were so imersive for me. The new direction with the basically unkillable ghost enemies was great, I loved the tension. Really hate that four gets bashed all the time, I honestly dug it. It's great when a developer takes a strictly structured franchise and tries something new with it like they did here, I think they really succeeded.

Anyway, I decided to show SH4 some love and threw it my vote. All of em are great games though!

I've only ever played 2,3,4, homecoming, and Downpour. Out of those i've only finished the last 3 listed. So once this game gets released then i'll vote.

Although from what i've played i was scared shitless of both 2 and 3 since i was 12 or so when they came out.

Does anyone know a way i can play SH1? i don't own a PS2 anymore since it's broke, and i don't have a PS3 to get it off the PSN if it's there.

Silent Hill 3 would be my favorite, but I'm playing Downpour right now so that may change.

03-21-2012, 06:45 PM
I've played/own all of the silent hill games and completed them with multiple endings but still playing Downpour, haven't finished it. I take my time. I voted for Homecoming. I shall sit here and wait for the flames of the internet to hit.:omg

I don't think SH1 was ever released outside of the ps1 version, it is on psn but you said you're ps3 is dead, I suppose if you have a psp you could try that, but thats about it EliteShadowMan

I've played every Silent Hill except for downpour, and I've gotta say, for a series of games that are meant to get in your head and genuinely freak you out, The Room does the best job. The apartment, if left unchecked, can do some extremely bizarre things when you visit it.

SH1-3 all had better stories, but I'd have to vote for 4, because it is the only game that has ever ACTUALLY given me nightmares.

Silent Hill 1
Silent Hill 3
Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill The Room
Silent Hill Homecoming (less said about that the better)

I have only played the very start of Origins so can't comment on it too much, but it seemed quite promising. Don't know why I didn't get into that - guess I just don't play my PSP all that much...

Shattered Memories I have not had the pleasure of playing. Perhaps one day when it gets released on a platform I actually buy games for. :)

Silent Hill 2 will forever be on of my favorite games of all time. Probably the best story I've ever seen in a game, everything in that game had such meaning and purpose. The more you delve in the more it ensnares you.

4 Would've been better had it been a Silent Hill game from the start and not an original game that got converted to a SH game halfway through. The first half of that game was pretty lack luster (almost didnt beat it because of that) but the second half was amazing.

Home coming and downpour are pretty good games but they don't stand in the same league as the first 4. I wish they did.

Origins was a joke that I wish didnt exist and I havent played shattered memories unfortunately.

Out of the Team Silent era my list would be...

1) Silent hill 2
2) Silent Hill
3) Silent Hill 3
4) Silent Hill 4 The Room

Out of the Double Helix, Climax, and Vatra era my list would be...
1) Silent Hill Shattered Memories ( I thought Climax did a PHENOMENAL job)
2) Silent Hill Origins ( Again I thought Climax did a GREAT job)
3) Silent Hill Downpour
4) Silent Hill Homecoming

I know that people want Silent Hill games to capture the essence, dread, atmosphere etc of the Team Silent era but people have to understand that it was Konami themselves that broke apart Team Silent. The new developers that they hand the reigns to I'm more then positive DOESN'T go out to make a bad Silent Hill game but since its no longer Team Silent so no matter what or how many Silent Hill games gets released there will ALWAYS be some sort of mixed reactions towards it. Me? I ALWAYS keep my expectations in check with each new Silent Hill and to be honest I've enjoyed every single one. Especially Climax Studios Shattered Memories (what a FANTASTIC twist/surprising ending! Had the absolute best ending in my opinion since SH 2). And Origins was a very solid entry.

Voted for silent hill 2, the atmosphere is so well done and captures this nightmarish town without falling back on cheap scares. Yeah the combat has not aged well but I would take this over recent SH games

Silent hill 2
Silent hill 3 (still very good)
Silent hill 1 (looks like shit now on new consoles but fantasic game and it showed video games story could be complex and compared to any well written film (not comparing the SH voice acting there) ;)

Silent hill Downpour (good stab at SH game in 2012 although it feels like a direct to video film compared to the cinema releases of the first 3 games. Small unproven studio without the budget. The "boogeyman" was fucking crap

Have not played Origins or SM, so can't comment but want to play them if they comes to ps3 or 360

Silent Hill homecoming: (Meh , it was playable and goes to shit at the end with the button bashing hostel style cheap shit. The devs looked at the film to to get ideas and missed the point

Silent Hill The room: (despite what some say, it didn't become silent hill at the last minute although at the beginning it was not going to have the SH name) Brings new ideas but hated pinning those ghosts and it turns into massive escort quest and there was massive bug where 1 room she was fine and next minute she was all fucked up and draining your health. Too much bug squashing, couldn't drop broken weapons, you had to go back to the room to drop stuff off. It re-used the worlds you have already been to

It has to be Silent Hill 2. I've never played a game that tells a story so well with using words. It's an interactive roller coaster of symbolism from start to finish.

04-10-2012, 06:58 AM
this is a tough one, ive played 1,2,4, homecoming, and probably 15 minutes of origins. ive enjoyed all of them, but i think id have to go with the original. i thought the story was better. as i recall sh1 had more development of the town silent hill as a character in the story, if that makes sense.i was always fascinated (as well as terrified) with the town, and i think the first one expressed it the best

04-10-2012, 04:19 PM
Silent Hill 2 for me. This is the game that got me to start caring more about stories in games than the actual gameplay. The story, the atmosphere, the characters, the symbolism, the enemy design, I thought all of it was perfect. While it was not as terrifying as the original Silent Hill was, I think the rest of it made up for it. However, Silent Hill 3 was a great addition to the series. The gameplay was great, the story wasn't too bad and the unlockables were very fun to unlock. Silent Hill 4: The Room is a bit odd for me. While it did feature some great ideas, the overall feel was just bad. The escort who you never knew if she was going to enter the next room with you or not, the breaking of weapons, re-going through the same exact worlds with no difference except for the boss, Henry was very bland, I hated the idea of the way you went to other areas of Silent Hill. However, I do think that it got the isolation part down correctly with the apartment room.

Silent Hill: Origins, Silent Hill: Homecoming and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories never should have happened. They are just bad games with a random Silent Hill 2 plot twist thrown into them, with bad characters, bad enemy design, bad combat (with the exception of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories since it didn't have combat), bad script, terrible puzzles that a five year old could figure out.

Silent Hill: Origins tried so hard to be a prequel to the original Silent Hill but everything it did while trying to further the story of the original Silent Hill told us what we already found out in the original Silent Hill. Except the Lisa and Kaufmann sleeping together, I have no idea where that came from. Also it randomly threw in a Pyramid Head-like creature.

Silent Hill: Homecoming was just bad all around and yet again, randomly threw in Pyramid Head for no reason. Also this game was more of a video game adaption of the film.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories halfway had potential but fell flat when you knew within the first fifteen minutes when you were going to have to run away and when you were going to have to solve puzzles/ explore. And for a game that boasted about how much the choices you make were going to affect the enemy design, it especially fell flat. I attempted to go through a second time and chose everything the exact opposite of what I chose the first time and the enemy design changed slightly.

I'm between 1 and 2. 2 has the best story by far, but 1 is the original so eh, but in all honesty I've played and beat all of them so I love all of them. :)

04-16-2012, 03:24 PM
1. Silent Hill 2

2. Silent Hill
3. Silent Hill 3
4. Homecoming
5. Origins
6. Silent Hill 4

By far Silent Hill 2 followed by 3 and shattered memoriers which has grewn on me during recent years
