So this isn't Tali? I heard I can't see her face if I didn't have a romantic relationship with her in the previous games.

It's a picture of her.

http://www.gamebandits.com/news/mass-effect-3-spoiler-stock-photo-used-for-tali-de-masking-36529/

After you recruit the Quarians to join forces against the reapers and if you romanced tali in the previous game, you get a picture of her in your room without her suit on, on the Normandy.

[Obviously, everything written below could be considered a spoiler of sorts. Cease reading if a small picture of a face (or any reference to its existence) will ruin the game for you.]
As if Mass Effect 3 (http://www.destructoid.com/review-mass-effect-3-223213.phtml)couldn't get into hotter water (http://www.destructoid.com/metacritic-user-reviews-tear-mass-effect-3-to-pieces-223248.phtml) with enraged gamers (http://www.destructoid.com/mass-effect-3-users-being-asked-to-create-a-new-shepard-223252.phtml), fans of a particular character are even more furious. Players have an opportunity to find out what the masked Tali's face looks like, but it seems some folk didn't get what they hoped for.
The picture of Tali with her mask off (viewable later in the game) is a slightly reworked image of an existing stock photograph, as discovered by a number of Internet Sherlocks. Certain fans of Tali, who have been waiting to find out what she and her fellow Quarians look like, are rather disappointed that her grand unveiling revealed a secondhand face.
The fanbase at large seems to be split (http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/995487-mass-effect-3/62163605) between those who feel insulted, and those wondering what the big deal is. Some are citing this as further evidence of BioWare's sloppiness and disregard for fans, while more forgiving players believe this to be an inconsequential nitpick.
Do you think this is evidence of gross laziness, or is it an acceptable corner to cut? The comparison shot is located in our gallery.

ok so is everyone mad because they didnt take anew photo of amodal and use that? or that they didnt scan a modals face to use? or that they dint design a new face around a modals? or that they didnt take a photo of an actual alien?

im seriously not sure what the problem is, people loved tali so they picked a beautiful looking woman and made her tali by editing her a Little for her features... just like pretty much every game maker makes all their characters now, most are scans of real people or built up from real people

Yeah but I think people were first and foremost bummed she (and I guess all Quarians?) looked almost human. I know I was looking forward to seeing what this mysterious race looked like after immersing myself so deeply in this universe. Once someone found a stock photo online, it just kinda added to the anger of the fans. The annoyance of a human looking face became anger when people saw the photo and started calling BioWare on laziness.

Tali is pretty much one of the most, if not the most popular character with Garrus. I think it's unacceptable that they cut this kind of corner. It also doesn't fit at all for them to be human.

They should've just left it alone, because the mystery would've disguised their lazyness.

I liked it and Ive loved tali since you first meet her on me1

and i dont see why it doesnt fit for her to be close to a human, it wouldnt fit at all for them to be very far from it

I'm disappointed. I just started playing, but have already told Liara (who I romanced in the first game) that we're done so that I could pick things up with Tali (who I romanced in ME2). Perhaps I should go replay from the last save.

The laziness, I think, is not in the source of the photo but that a photo is all you get. I would have been okay with maintaining the mystery, but if they're gonna reveal her face, do it in a cutscene. Design an original face and show it off a bit. An overexposed photo, generically altered, is a lousy payoff for the buildup.

I guess I'll just fuck Ashley. She looks a lot better in ME3...though she's still a "tough girl" cliche.

To be honest there are ways of keeping her "human"ish appearance without going so far as to take a stock photo and edit it. You can tell by looking at her helmet and features that at least her face is human-like, but fully human looking like that? It's not believable at all for me. Heck, just the long, thick, flowing hair alone is wildly unbelievable to me, where would it all fit in that suit?

There is a fan creation of Tali unmasked that went around and was posted on one of the fan art boards that, to me, would have been so much more believable had bioware decided to go down that route. It still remains my favorite.

Edit: Found it. And keep in mind the artist did this way before ME3 came out.

That's just plain ass lazy. Not sure who the genius was who thought that would be a good idea to use an ALREADY EXISTING PHOTO from the internet and put blue skin on it was, but they upset a lot of ppl, me included. I thought this one was great...

It's just lazy, from a company people expect better from, though they really shouldn't given the progression of their current series'.

Truth be told, it's not a big deal, I think people are just so angry anymore with how things panned out with ME3 that any and every little detail that can be scrutinized against will be.

I was pretty pissed at that one. Tali is one of my favs and the one who I wanted Shep to romance all along. "Cutting corners" and "laziness" doesn't even begin to describe the disservice that Bioware did to fans of ME and Tali.

Yeah I was so pissed I decided to drop my romance with her. A big fuck up on BW's part. It's one of the reasons why ME3 won't snag GOTY 2012.

: S P O I L E R :

After all is said and done on the quarians home world, and she takes off her mask and breaths a sigh of relief... BAM, i couldn't believe they didnt pan around and show her face. But, for some reason (don't get me wrong) the whole game feels "short changed". Like its a real small game in a big games body. I just get the feeling like they rushed or cut some corners, kinda like they just wanted it done or something. I dunno, just a feeling.

some of these pics are cool, but they all look too human-like to me, same as the asari, their facial features are far too close to human.

The couple that made that made a new one also.

I waited all throughout 2 to see if she would show her face and she never did. Then in 3 there were several times I thought it was going to show her face. I did not care to much that she is portrayed with having a very human like face, I am just unhappy with her only being seen by a stupid picture frame.

Thats very nicely done.
It doesn't really bother me that they didn't really show her face more than just the picture. Could be worse too.

I rather liked this one. I don't quite like the last pictures posted because they are a little too alien, in the game the quarian race is described as an extremely beautiful race. Whether that's bodily or by face or both is not specified. And we all know taking has a a gorgeous body

This is definitely a sign that the game was "rushed" or released before BioWare could put 100% into it. That photoshop job took, what, 5 or 10 minutes for someone with experience? I don't like blaming BioWare though. I blame EA. :p

I wish they would have shown little clips in the cut scenes or something of her face. I always wanted to see her while I was playing the games lol..

I still wish they never showed her face. Wanting to see it and constantly being teased at was enough. Some things are best left unsaid, it adds to the mystery and allure of it.
