Heres a review from Kotaku.

Honestly, Im relieved. I saw this game and the promise it had yet I was so worried that it would have gotten stuck in that weird development hell where games can tend to go from good ideas to terrible execution. Good to see it turning out as good as we all hoped!

I've never been one to make rash decisions based on what other people say, but after a fair amount of reading on the backlash that this game's creator has received for his conduct in the media and among other gamers and industry people, I am seriously considering not purchasing it. Look up Phil Fish and skim his Twitter and see what you think. I may try the demo but it is going to have to blow out the back of my skull to get me to hand this guy my dollars. Have some tact, guy.

Phil Fish is actually quite known for being kind of an arsehole sometimes, but that's just who he is. I mean it's not like his out there murdering people or something, so give the guy a break. Besides, FEZ is not just Fish. Of course he's the lead artist and designer and it's his brainchild, but the game would not be possible without the help of other three members of the Polytron team: Renaud, Rich (Disasterpeace) and Brandon.

It's interesting to hear about the other members of the team, but to me what you're saying about Fish sounds like the excuse your group of friends makes when their old buddy from back home shows up and is a total tool. "Ahhh that's just Dave bein' Dave, man!" Well maybe Dave just really sucks. lol

His opinion has become the problem and it shouldn't be. He's not really wrong. The way he said it was wrong.

But if you have hundreds of people flipping out at you on twitter, telling you they are going to pirate your game because you told a Japanese dev their games "sucked" well... you'd probably get really pissed off and fed up to. The game more than deserves your money.

And really, so does he. We all have a breaking point. People telling you they are going to pirate your game because you have a negative opinion on Japanese gaming? He just put years into this project.

Give him a fucking break.

The game is mind blowing-ly good. It's like everytime you RT or LT *BAM* mind=blown. Especially with the retro look, feel and sounds. It makes things 10 times better and nostalgic.

This.

I'm going to end up buying it and then getting stuck on a low level and never finishing it but still loving it, lol.

If I would be lucky enough to break into the industry I'd certainly have a little more grace than to apologize for my inital hugely disrespectful remarks to a journalist by saying 'sorry japanese guy!' That's garbage. Sure a lot of what he said was firewall against the huge backlash he was facing but the initial situation is all on him. He strikes me as some weird cross between a frat boy and a mama's boy who never learned manners because he always had a plate of chicken nuggets with fancy sauce in front of him..

I think people's manners and what not should not be judged by the work they make. The artist's work is separate from what the person does in his/her daily life. While to me, he really is such a douche bag but, i respect creativity and great games. Certainly every gamer wants more great games regardless of how this person manners is.

Hopefully he regrets what he said, even if he doesn't admit it.

What Fish said not only was taken out of context, but he apologized to the person he said it to, despite Inafune citing Fish as an awesome person for giving Japan harsh criticism for not being up to snuff in the gaming world like they were ten years ago.

So, it's a moot point; he apologized, which is all people ever care about these days aside from opinions they don't agree with. Many of the top Japanese designers are saying worse things about their own industry. If it takes an indie developer from Canada to rustle a community of Japan-favoring gamers despite some of your own idols doing worse, then you guys are on prescriptions I wish I had.
