View Full Version : I hate Robert Ripley, believe it or not.

So I've got all achievements in the game except for Ripley's wizard goals, and of those I've got Atlantis and Frog Frenzy left.

My usual scores on this table are around 30-40 million. The other night I got going like no other. I got 130 million before it advanced to the 2nd ball. I earned 5 free balls on the first ball alone. I had all 6 super jackpots lit, and had all letters except for the S.

I lost ball 2 and 3 without hitting a single important shot...

I died a little inside.

So, let's talk about getting these two goals done.

You've got to light all 7 letters and then hit the vari-target. I can reliably collect letters only on Asia and Australia, and only sometimes on Europe and S. America. The 2-ball modes I just can't do (I've done N. America once, the others never). Any tips on these?

What I usually end up doing is getting 2-3 letters per run, then hit the vari-target after visiting all 7 and reset them, then go for more. My hope would be in that time I get at least one from Bozo or BioN. Other ideas?

Frog Frenzy:
You've got to collect all 6 super jackpots, then collect another super jackpot to start the mode.

You can light SJP by hitting 2 jackpots in multiball, 3 jackpots in Ripoff, lighting the middle row of the temple code, random award from Bozo (and maybe BioN?) and visiting all 7 continents and then hitting the vari-target (without having collected all 7 letters).

If you light SJP in either multiball, it doesn't stay lit if you don't collect it before losing all but 1 ball. I often light it on multiball, but then lose it. If you light it off the temple code, random award, or visiting all continents it stays lit until you grab it, but does it stay lit if you lose the ball?

Did I miss any ways to light it? Any tips on getting it lit fast and often?

Since that epic game, I've gotten no more than 3 SJPs and 3 letters. I don't know if I'll ever get back there again, but any and all tips, ideas, and discussions would be great.

I'm in the same boat as you - one time I got everything but the "S" in Ripley's, but I typically only get 2-3 letters. On my good run, I got lucky with letters as random prizes instead of having great success finishing the continents. I have yet to get a letter from any of the 2-ball modes as well - it's simply too much to accomplish and I have a hard time consistently getting up those ramps.

One aggravating killer for me is the idol - it will occasionally throw your ball directly into an outlane at high speed.

I played so many games of Ripley's, trying to get these two goals. I got SO close a few times (3 times I had the six super jackpots lit, twice I had RIPLEYS spelled) - it was so crushing to lose that last ball while being so damn close. But after putting in the effort, I finally got both.

All I can say is keep at it. I'm in the same boat as you as a player (ex: Asia and Australia really the only times I can earn a letter), but what I did notice was that I was getting better at the table each time I played. Then finally, I played a game with the right combo of skill and luck (earning 3 "lite super jackpot" temple rows), and there's no reason why you can't do the same.

Best of luck.

littleteacher, you post exactly sums up the frustrations I have with this table also. All I need are Frog and Atlantis to finish this off.

For me one of the problems I have is making the ramp shots. Almost impossible to do at will. When I look at Theatre of Magic, that table is easy to hit the shots you need compared to Ripleys. And having time limits on some of those continent modes is just evil, considering how hard some of the ramp/lane shots are to hit.

Over at the true achievements, only 36 people have managed to get this achievement. It is a low amount.

I actually managed to get both Frog Frenzy and Atlantis all in the same game. The first time through, I think I got the letters for Europe, Asia, and Australia. Plus one bonus letter from the Believe it or Not! hole. The next time through I only got Asia and Australia, but I got lucky and got another letter for free, making seven.

While I was playing through the second time, I got frog frenzy. I did this by constantly relighting the shrunken head and going for jackpots during the multiball. Took three consecutive multiballs before I finally activated Frog Frenzy.

The game does something hilarious when you activate Frog Frenzy. You will see.

Essentially, the table is a test of endurance. Don't give up hope.

Thnaks for your post Asaji.

I didn't realise that once all continents have been played and they loop around again, they are all on offer again. So effectively completing Asia twice gives 2 letters. I thought each letter was bound to a continent. This makes things more doable, I'm gonna give it another crack!

And, yes the repeated multiball I also figured was probably the best way to get those super jackpots as well as picking up the odd one by other means along the way.

Also, sorry to ask, but where is the BioN hole?

Also, sorry to ask, but where is the BioN hole?

It's the hole close to the flippers with the big "Believe it or Not!" arrow pointing right at it.

Also, super jackpots carry over across all your balls. When you finish Frog Frenzy, it resets and you can go for them again.

Doh! Of course it is. Sorry about that.

Well had a blinder of a game with 5 Letters and 4 Super Jackpots. Could have easily had the 6 Supers had I not squandered some good chances. Went to the 3rd round of Travelling the world and bottled the easy modes like Asia and Australia by the ball draining. This feels a lot more doable now.

Well, after many attempts, I finally got frog frenzy and atlantis last night (in the same game no less!). I got extremely lucky for the super jackpots. While in multiball, one of my balls got stuck around the jets leaving me with one ball to make the jackpot shots. I ended up getting 3 or 4 super jackpots this way. When that ball drained, I just nudged to get the other one free. So, this made it very easy. I wish there was a way to replicate it! I've had numerous games with 5-6 supers however, so I do feel like I could have got it without "cheating".

As for atlantis, there's no trick. The only advice I have is to make good use of the ridiculous number of extra balls that this table offers and to focus on the continents that are reasonable. I think I lit all of them 3 times before spelling Ripleys and only got letters from Asia, Australia and Europe!

Finally did it!!!! That was TOUGH.

If a guide ever gets written for this game at least 7 or 8/10 difficulty for those 2 final Wizard goals

Did both in one game in the end. Had quite a few extra balls and unlocked Atlantis after finishing up travelling the world for the 3rd time.

Good luck to anyone else trying these goals, watch the video I posted in that other thread, it helped me out with the ball control.

Fuck Ripley. Fuck ripley right in the fucking ear. Fuck everything about Ripley.

Finally got that mother fucker.

Any tips? Just get lucky?

Any tips? Just get lucky?

With the Frog Frenzy one, I just got really, really lucky with a ripoff multiball.

Tip #1: If you didn't know it already, that little jewel slot machine in the upper left corner is always set up to lite the extra ball when the game starts. Your very first shot of the game should go up that ramp before you hit something that causes it to change. Once it lites the extra ball, it'll pop out directly to your left flipper where you can sink it for the EB and your first continent.

Scoring the letter from Australia is easy: It says you've got to hit the target four times, but if you sink the ball back into the hole, it counts as two hits. So just sink the ball twice and the letter is yours.

The one where you've got to spin the spinner 25X is also simple and self explanatory. If you can manage to hit the ball with the upper right flipper and spin it around the loop a couple of times, you should be able to score this one in seconds.

I think Europe is the one where you have to hit the shrunken head six times. If you hit the right ramp (where you have to lock the ball for multiball), it will shoot the ball back out and hit the head not once but twice, making for another very easy ripley letter.

The tombstone one is pretty easy as well, as there are tombstones all over the place, and the game is pretty generous regarding what constitutes "hitting" the tombstone. I've gotten credit for barely grazing it often.

The other ones are multiball based. IMO, they're not worth the stress. If you can get them, great. But don't stress yourself out over them.

If you have enough ball control and can get the four letters off of the ones I've mentioned, you should be able to get Atlantis by the end of the 2nd world tour (which is much easier than it may sound).

The game gives a ridiculous amount of extra balls:

The Jewel game in the upper left is set up to score an easy EB when the game starts.

An EB at 12 million points.

An EB at (I think) 12 Idol shots

An EB at 40 Idol Shots.

I think a couple of the super jackpots also light up the EB.

In a half decent game, you should be able to play 7-8 balls, which should be plenty enough to make two trips around the world.

06-13-2012, 02:33 PM
Thanks, most of that I've been trying to use to my advantage, but I didn't know about the game being setup to start with the EB. Good notice.

I can usually only get 3 letters in one trip around the world. Hopefully I can get one through Bozo or BioN before I finish my second trip. Or get lucky on a multiball one.

06-13-2012, 08:33 PM
Agreed, this table is a horrible unfair cheating ripoff shitbastard prick son of a motherfucker. It's not a question of if your ball will get uncerimoniously pissed away down a gutter, but when.

06-15-2012, 03:12 AM
I lit all 6 SJPs, but couldn't collect the last one to start the mode. GAHHH! Nothing frustrates me like pinball.

What do you guys think is the quickest way light SJP? I had about 3 places left to visit to collect all the continents which lights it so that's what I went for. I didn't even try for letters, just waited out the modes so I could relight SJP.

Those of you who got it, you had to light SJP 7 times. What did you find was the easiest way to get it lit? Multiball? Ripoff?

06-15-2012, 09:42 PM
I feel your pain mate. I had 6 SJP lit and 6 Ripley letters lit once only to have my final 3 balls drain very quickly. Fucked off didn't even come close to describe my reaction.

To be honest it all depends on how long you can keep the multiball modes alive for. Personally I'm not that good at it. But with Multiball you only need to hit 2 jackpots to light the SJP, Ripoff you need to hit 3 Jackpots.

I personally did it by travelling the world 3 times, got one SJP from the temple jewels, and the other 3 were from scoring a least one SJP from Multiballs. I have seen a very rare BION reward of light super jackpot, had it once on a previous game.

I think the key to this table is getting the ramp shots. To either lock the ball or re-light the head. Once you get a handle on doing that you're in good shape. Take advantage of the EBs, learn to move the ball about over the flippers, and its doable. My game took nearly 50mins solid gameplay but in that game I got both Atlantis and Frog Frenzy. Its a long time to focus on, as it's intense, quickfire gameplay. Especially when you get near the goals, keep a cool head and sweaty palms....fuck me don't even get me started lol.

Stick with it. Appreciated, they're fucking hard wizard goals to get, Atlantis and Frog Frenzy. It took me ages to master. But as another user posted above, stick with it, it will come.

Thank Christ the new Avengers tables come out for FX2 tomorrow so I can finally focus on something else. I'm not touching this shit-assed game again until the DLC that should have come out 3 months ago gets released.

I just got all the wizard goals completed last night! I wasn't trying for them at all, I just had a really good/lucky run.

08-07-2012, 09:08 AM
Earlier I made a post stating that the way I earned Frog Frenzy was relighting the three ball multiball mode and shooting for jackpots. I'm retracting that advice. Wanna know how to really do the last two wizard goals? Keep visiting all the continents over and over again. The letters carry over each successive time until you spell Ripley's, then restart at zero. Each time you finish all continents, you light a Super Jackpot that doesn't go away until you actually collect it. Much easier this way.

Easiest letters to collect are Asia, Australia, South America (Shoot for the right ramp), and Europe. (Shoot for the right ramp as soon as the mode starts, then shoot the continent hole again and hope for a 2-ball mode.) Factor in one Super Jackpot every time you complete all the continents and at least one Super Jackpot from Ripoff Multiball or regular three ball multiball. It should take you about twenty minutes to get Atlantis with this method, depending on luck and skill. Frog Frenzy should soon follow, assuming you have the nudging skill to keep your ball in play and keep earning those Super Jackpots by completing all the continents.

Most I've done is visiting Atlantis... oh, I don't know. Eight times in one game or something. And I know I got Frog Frenzy twice during my run that put me in my current leaderboard position.

To be honest, ignore the left side of the playing field, including the Believe it or Not! hole. Waste of time and too high of a chance for a quick drain. Ignore the Shrunken Head too. Focus on the right side, and get good at shooting that right ramp. It lights continents, even while you already have a mode going. If you stack modes it gets a lot easier, especially if you're not stressing over actually earning the letters tied to the two ball modes.

Send me a message if you have any questions. I'm #8 on the leaderboards for Ripley's as of this writing, so I think my strategy works pretty good.

I don't particularly like the show nor the table. I would have preferred Rollercoaster Tycoon or High Roller Casino. That said Stern is still one of the main Pinball manufacturers that's still running.

Also there's a disturbing lack of Gottlieb, mainly Strikes and Spares, and Varkon and Centaur would have been cool tables to add, and The Pinball Circus, somehow.

08-07-2012, 06:48 PM
They've said time and again that Pinball Circus is going to be impossible. It's just not feasable, what with only two in existance and a defiant attitude from the owners over copying the ROM's.

As for older Gottliebs, I'm sure they're just getting a lot of the more interesting tables out there first before they dip into that considerable stockpile. Taxi and Harley Davidson (Stern) are next, and they hinted that Attack From Mars would be released within the first six months. That still leaves the door open for a Gottlieb, but I wouldn't get my hopes up yet.

08-07-2012, 07:09 PM
It sucks that they won't let them have TPC, especially since it's a prototype which never made it to manufacture. That and now I think about it I don't think the camera angles and ball tracking probably wasn't made for multi story pinball of that kind.

It's kind of sucky that Gottliebs are getting kind of left out, well not added at the moment, I can name a few good ones easily, but that said Taxi is a pretty amazing table. I suppose it'd nice to first let them get their foot in the door with some great tables first, then dip into the older ones.
