View Full Version : Most useful tonic? (in your opinion)

08-30-2007, 03:14 AM
hey what do you guys think was the most useful tonic? i liked the medical experts and eve link

08-30-2007, 03:27 AM
Static charge for me. I like how it helps if your getting swarmed by zapping splicers.

08-30-2007, 04:14 AM
Static discharge was my favorite because if you get surrounded or attacked from behind it gives you time to react. I got a lot of use out of Eve Link and the hacking tonics as well.

08-30-2007, 05:04 AM
When playing on easy, static discharge makes the game ridiculously easy. You can just stand there and theyll just die.

08-30-2007, 05:22 AM
static discharge was a great help. but i love natural camoflauge. If i got caught by a camera I just ran away and hid and no bots found me. I hit Big Daddies then hid. He went yellow and i kept attacking. And in arcadia where u circulate the vector thing I just hid sat there when i didnt want to waste ammo or eve. :)

It was between Camo and Booze Hound for me, in the end I chose Booze Hound. The earlier you can get it, the better as it turns alcohol into a positive effect. Without it you're just swapping Eve for Health, but with it every bar is a free medi-kit or two. There were others that were helpful, but those two stood out for me.

08-30-2007, 08:00 AM
I agree with DeW222, Booze Hound. And not just because of the name, it was the one tonic the second time through i couldn't wait to get, because it meant that drinking would be all around good, and i wouldn't have to pass up alcohol anymore, unfortunately there wasn't one for smoking. ; )

08-30-2007, 10:43 AM
Natural camo, because you can set even better ambushes for splicers then appear out of nowhere and zap them with some plasmids. Somehow Big Daddies can see through it though, so it is only good against splicers and most of the bosses.

08-30-2007, 11:13 AM
I would have said Static Discharge but the amount of times a splicers hit me and a big daddy was right next to me gets a bit tedious.

Medical Expert all the way, thats saved my ass loads.

08-30-2007, 09:14 PM
Chose Hacker Tonic, although you wouldnt get past the first level without static discharge...

08-30-2007, 09:24 PM
NAtural Camoflauge ftw

i cant count how many times it saved me from security bots lol

also, whacking an unsucpecting splicer never gets old :P

08-31-2007, 01:35 AM
Natural Camoflage it helps you hide from the security bots and wait out the alarm

09-01-2007, 03:35 AM
camo was the koolest, but the static discharge helped me out the most

On easy you don't have to even kill most of the splicers they die when they hit you anyway.:woop:

On hard, it's a different story.

09-01-2007, 10:05 PM
I will have to say Natural Camouflage as i think it is a big asset to the game.

09-01-2007, 10:49 PM
i would say static discharge it is very useful when you are not paying attention and a splicer shows up from behind

09-02-2007, 12:00 AM
Camouflage all the way. If you're ever in trouble just run around a corner and stop and you're saved! I can't even count how many times that saved my azz.

09-02-2007, 09:11 PM
static discharge

i'd intentionally let them rush me, shock the group and headshot them all. could drop 4-5 people with no challenge

09-26-2007, 06:10 PM
Natural Camo, trip a camera..wait it out =)

09-27-2007, 05:05 PM
Natural camouflage helped me the most.

09-27-2007, 06:06 PM
After playing through the game again on hard I will say having the shorten alarms equipped is also a big savior. Although it's pretty much rendered useless once you go back to camo, because you can just stand there and wait for the bots to go away. Although it's nice not having to stand for 60 seconds and wait. Nice when they go away in 10-15 seconds and you can move on.

10-02-2007, 05:11 PM
i enjoyed stacking the Human inferno tonics and using Incinerate 3. Stuff died pretty fast, plus you could set those oilslicks on fire and walk around in them without much life lost.

10-03-2007, 10:27 PM
Natural Camouflage, definitely. If a security camera ever recognized you, you could just run into a corner and hide and be safe from the bots. I would have said Static Discharge, but too many times I was right next to a Big Daddy, either it was hypnotized by me or I was about to run past it, when a random splicer came out of nowhere and attacked me, sending out electricity into the Big Daddy, pissing him off and leading him to kill me.

Static Discharge and Electrobolt in their strongest form. They stun almost every enemy in the game. Plus, they can kill enemies while they are in the water. It is a shame there is no Plasmid that could make your opponent wet. That could be awesome, no? Making the opponent wet, and then zapping them.

Both stun everyone, to get enemies wet, set them on fire, they will run to put themselves out, then electrobolt FTW. I liked shooting them better.

10-04-2007, 10:54 PM
Not every place as water. And, making them wet could save time. I rather not chance after someone while being assaulted via many other opponents.

10-04-2007, 10:58 PM
Did you at least hit them with the wrench once stunned? Once I got all the wrench tonics, I just ran around swinging the wrench.

10-04-2007, 11:08 PM
Yes, but using the wrench alone cannot defeat every enemy. That could make an interesting challenge run, though.

10-04-2007, 11:23 PM
It does, you can't really kill the last guy (not named for spoiler) with the wrench though, he has too much life to be killed by bullets as it is, let alone a wrench.

10-04-2007, 11:27 PM
Sad, but true. Attacking the last boss with the wrench alone is beyond in insane, but interesting for those watching.

Static Charge gmv.

10-11-2007, 03:48 AM
Probably the most useful was the camo one. I also liked the photographers eye too though.

10-12-2007, 10:37 PM
Static discharge rules them all, though I haven't hit the game on hard yet. Going to try this weekend to finish out my 1000. Maybe my opinion will change after that.

10-23-2007, 01:13 AM
My top 3:

1: Static Discharge- Kills many enemies that wouldv'e killed me otherwise.
2: Natural Camouflage- Great when you needed to escape security bots, tons of enemies, or to just grab a drink.
3: Frozen Field- Always helped me kill masses of enemies.

10-23-2007, 01:34 AM
static discharge is good and if u use the ones that make youre wrench swing faster and more damaging you can fight up close all day

The one that makes Liquor restore Health and EVE, combined with the medical Expert tonics.

Most likely Natural Camouflage, My only beef with Static Charge was the fact that if you were hit near a Big Daddy, it would set him off.

10-23-2007, 04:45 PM
I have to say static discharge. When you reach the later levels, it helps a whole lot especially when you start fighting the Big Daddies.

10-23-2007, 08:55 PM
Natural Camouflage is the best tonic because you blend into the environment it is helpful when security alarms go off!

Static charge got me out of ton of tight spots when I was being swarmed. Awesome tonic.

10-28-2007, 10:18 AM
static discharge cus its good for tight spots

10-28-2007, 03:31 PM
Natural Camouflage for me. I can't even begin to count how many times I was able to kill splicers with a single anti-personel pistol shot to the head by being invisible, and later, with a single crossbow bolt (my favourite weapon).

My first play through I thought Camo was helpful, but static discharge is better, its more defensive, rather than just hide in a corner.

11-07-2007, 02:44 AM
I was alway pretty fond of the hacker's tonic

02-18-2008, 11:12 PM
Static Discharge is my favourite although the first couple of times I got hit I forgot I had picked up this tonic, and I freaked out wondering why I was getting showered with Electrobolt everytime a Thug Splicer whacked me one!

Natural Camouflage is very useful too but by the end I was getting annoyed at the activate/deactivate noises it would make everytime I stopped/started moving. WhoooOOOP..... WHEEEeeeeep. It's like on cartoons where the guy's feet squeak when he's sneaking around and he makes more noise that way than if he was walking normally.

Yeah I can find the cloud behind every silver lining.

omg camo is the best! by far. although it sucks when a big daddy's followin ya and he leaves cause of it. but still, when something makes me jump i just stand still! this has saved me in so many instances, including the power to the ppl machine in fort frolic, in the basement. it was pretty funny watching the splicer that was going to ambush me walk back and forth looking for me. lawl at that.

02-27-2008, 11:01 PM
The Eve Link ws very useful :p

Natural Camo.

It honestly saved me about a billion times when I was doing my Brass Balls playthrough, and I'd often have little to no health/eve.

Bleed it out
04-10-2008, 03:26 AM
Definitely natural camo. It was the easiest way to get the close-up photos and saved my ass a bunch of times.

04-12-2008, 08:14 AM
For me it had to be stacked wrench jockey 1 & 2 and stacked sport boost 1&2. along with natural camoflage.

04-14-2008, 08:53 AM
It was a toss between static discharge and natural camouflage. I picked the latter. I have both static discharges on my person, and while it is hughely powerful, it can anger big daddies easily. With NC, you turn invisible and most of the other tonics become somewhat usless. No need to heal, no alarms, no one can find you. It's all good.
