I was looking though random achievement lists today and thought about what is an achievement that everybody knows. My vote goes to Seriously ... from Gears of war. I think anyone who knows anything about achievements know why.

yeah that's a pretty good one. I was thinking maybe the brass balls achievement from bioshock.

No question of a doubt that Seriously and Mile High Club probably "famous".

I can't really thing of much else that wide-known but if anyones played Lost Odyssey, then Treasure Trove has been quite the discussion amongst achievement whores.

The first one that came to mind was 'Seriously' and I don't even know what the achievement requires! And I really can't be bothered looking it up, but it's everywhere! Anywhere you look people seem to be complaining about how long it's taking/going to take, etc.. To be fair I'd probably say it's more infamous than famous.

Another one that came to mind after that was 'The Inhuman Achievement' from GH3, though that one might only be well known among GH players.

Well I haven't heard of it. For me it's Mile High Club. Despite not actually having it, or even going for it, it's the first one that springs to mind.

Seriously is an obvious choice really.

Beating General Raam on Insane is another, and I can proudly say I done that one.

Oblivion Walker amongst Skyrim fans due to it being a royal pain in the arse. I needed a second playthrough for it as well as many others.

Mister Spraggsy
06-22-2012, 09:11 AM

That one is just hard and time consuming. The first Seriously is far more well known.

So yeah my vote is Seriously followed by Mile High Club.

When I reed the title the first thing that popped in my mind was Seriously! for GoW and I've never played any of them but I know how infamous the achievement is, Kudos to all who have at least one of them and a bigger kudos if you have more then one.

Clearly the most famous is 元気はつらつ (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/mushihimesama-futari-ver-one-point-five/achievement/33793-%E5%85%83%E6%B0%97%E3%81%AF%E3%81%A4%E3%82%89%E3%8 1%A4.html) since it's literally unmissable unless you're afraid of shmups.

I just thought of another one, i would say Off the boat from GTA IV. Because everyone who has played that game has that achievement.

bigbear2face
06-22-2012, 05:01 PM
I think the various "Seriously" achievements would have to be near the top.

But Mile High Club...Its so famous that even though I'm pretty sure I don't have it, I don't remember what game it is for or what you do to get it...But I know I've read/heard about it a million times. To me that indicates just how famous it might be.

Oh yeah, and "If you came to hear me beg" from Reach.

Rums
06-22-2012, 05:05 PM
Isn't there one from Lost Planet 2 that requires you to be the best in the world at any given time, or something like that? I'd imagine that would have to be famous, or infamous.

Guy Who Rages
06-22-2012, 05:05 PM
I think the Seriously achievements.

Mile High Club comes a close second.

Opiate42

I think the Seriously achievements.

Mile High Club comes a close second.

I think we have a unanimous two-way tie here on these ones for sure.

Now OP, do you mean famous ooooooor Infamous?

That may be a whole other kaboodle :p

Red Dead's "Dastardly" is pretty infamous.

Death Metal Jim
06-22-2012, 07:01 PM
The most famous achievement will always be Seriously from Gears 1. It's not the hardest or most time consuming achievement, but anybody that knows anything about achievements will know exactly what you're talking about as soon as you mention it. Also don't forget, this achievement is 6 freakin years old now.

7 Day Survivor is still pretty famous, but not as much over the last few years since 360s are more stable now then they were in 2006 when this crazy ass achievement was invented.

Nevander
06-22-2012, 09:07 PM
I'd have to agree with everyone else saying Seriously ... from GoW1. It's the first one that really happened to catch eyes and have people asking "is this seriously for real?" I still haven't gotten it and I'm not sure if I will, but I'll never forget the achievement. :p

SilentStrike011
06-22-2012, 09:09 PM

I'd say "Mile High Club" and then "Seriously." Even though I don't play GoW I've still heard a lot about the "Seriously" achievements.

CyberPunch83
06-23-2012, 12:34 PM
'Seriously' has to be the single most famous, or at least the most well-known achievement, if only because of it's insane requirement of kills or how glitchy it was and still is. Next to that, you have 'Mile High Club' from Call of Duty 4, and most recently was 'If They Came to Hear Me Beg' from Halo: Reach. I've spent many a night watching friends try and fail to get the achievement. It will never get old.

Pickproofswine
06-23-2012, 01:12 PM
Rather than say Seriously and Mile High Club again been trying to think of some others that might not be so well known but if you tried them you'd know about it.
Worst one i could think of is Solid Gold for Forza 3 . Just so boring finishing every race off , same tracks over and over, your cars are so good by the point of trying for the achievement u just whoop everyone from the line and your racing by yourself for 95% of the race.
I could never be bothered to finish it and I dont think i ever will.

It would definitely be "Seriously...". Gears of War came out early into the 360's life cycle and was a huge hit. The achievement gained attention as it was one the first publicised "major" achievements.

You have some much harder achievements than "Seriously..." now but, you expect stuff like that in games nowadays. Back then, you did have some pretty brutal ones or fairly difficult ones from games like Quake 4, GRAW, Tony Hawks Project 8, Saint's Row, F.E.A.R, Dead Rising, Burnout Revenge and to a lesser extent Kameo but attention wasn't given to them as much as Gears of War because none of them exploded onto the scene like Gears of War did. No game had tasked you with getting 10,000 multiplayer kills at the time. It's funny because both GRAW and F.E.A.R had achievements for hosting or playing 1000 matches which is almost as brutal. Quake 4 tasked you with 5000 matches AND top of the leaderboards, which was certainly the hardest thing to do in 2005/2006.

The more people have a game, the more that are going to shout about an achievement.

"Mile High Club" would definitely come next, along with "Beans, Bullets, Bandages" on Battlefield Bad Company.

I say Bad Company because at the time, there was a lot of attention around it because it was a new "Seriously...". Obviously, The Club started the trend with "No, Seriously..." to get 10,001 kills but, as I said before; it wasn't as popular and thus only had a small circle talking about it. Bad Company was popular and garnered more attention and fame.

Everybody knows about "Mile high Club" because it was Call of Duty 4's hardest achievement and that game was as big as - if not bigger - than GoW.

Thinking about it, I imagine Quake 4 did gain a large amount of attention as it was quite popular.

It's already been covered, but I'd have to go with "Seriously..."

Felonious Monk
06-25-2012, 12:39 AM
Only one other person said it, which surprises me:

"Zombie Genecider" from Dead Rising. Referenced then with:
"Zombie Genecidest" from Left 4 Dead. Referenced then with:
"Trail of Corpses" from Prototype. Referenced then with:
"HOPO-cidal Manaic" from Rock Band 3.

An achievement that spawns that many copy-cat achievements seems pretty famous to me. The Gears/Club "Seriously/No, Seriously" is the only other thing that comes close in the same concept.

lol wtf!?

well the first achievement that came to mind was "mile high club," since cod4 was a huge thing back around 2007 in the halo3 vs cod4 days. its a popular achievement and definetly hardest on the list, especially on this site we find a lot of gamers reffering to it.

another i would say is seriously, 1.0 2.0 or wtv they do. i only tried gears of war 1 and didnt much like it at all, but i know plenty about that achievement. apparently requires you to climb to the top rank of multiplayer or something, which is always a grind. obviously it caught on if they have it on all three titles.

As most people said, Seriously ... and Mile High Club.

Also would like to add 7-Day Survivor from Dead Rising, haven't played the game yet, but I know it takes 11 or 14 hours straight without dying, and maybe The Bladder of Steel Award from Rock Band 2, making you play all 80 or so on-disc songs in one sitting without pausing or failing.

I think the most famous achievement is probably one of the Seriously ones. I've heard about them a lot but I'm not exactly sure what they are for as I've never played a Gears of War before. I know all of them involve a lot of grinding though.

Other achievements that might be famous I can think of are "Kick the Bucket Award" from Guitar Hero II, "The Inhumane Achievement" from Guitar Hero III, "Bladder of Steel" from Rock Band 2, "Treasure Trove" from Lost Odyssey, "Press START to Play" in The Simpsons, and "Zombie Genocider" and "7 Day Survivor" both from Dead Rising.

"You're the best Around" occurs quite a lot as well.
