I keep seeing the windows controller popping up on CAG. But I've also read on some shady sites about ways to use a regular xbox wired contr for this, but I've had no luck. Am I just on a wild goose chase?

An actual wired controller will work for GFWL titles. A wireless controller with a Play'n'Charge cable (or any cable really) will not work, you need a USB adapter.

Yeah I bought one of those Afterglow controllers myself specifically to play games on my PC. Works just fine for GFWL (such as Resident Evil 5 PC). Those Afterglows are pretty nice and relatively cheap at around 30 bucks...see if you can get one =) though don't "settle" for a color like I did (I got red, I wanted blue...they didn't have any =/).

yeah i appreciate the afterglow stuff. got a wii nunchuck blue with a retractable cord. very cool. I'd use a lot more wired stuff if it was all retractable.
