So the hard drive on my xbox overheated, now the 360 won't boot with the HDD in it. When I try starting the drive it starts beeping and making screeching sounds.... without the drive the 360 boots with no problems.
Kind of sucks because all of my saves from the last 5 years are on that drive.

Is there any way to try and recover the data myself and not end up paying a data recovery lab to do the job?

Should be able to do it with the transfer kit. You would have to purchase a new harddrive first and then get the cable and transfer all your data over. Unless your old drive is completely fried.

Try the harddrive in a different Xbox. If it doesn't work, then yeah.
