OP, why not just turn one on and find out?

I was glitching some Bounty points in Need for Speed Most Wanted, and I think the timer got to 15 minutes before the screen dimmed, 25 or so before my controller shut off.

Mine only lasts like 10 minutes.

Yeah it's about 15 minutes. I was thinking there was an option to change that somewhere but I dunno

Screen goes dark in 5, another 5 and it will switch off.

Pretty sure it's 15 minutes. Although it seems to vary depending on how much battery you have left. Between 15-20 though seems to be the average(for mine at least)

I was thinking this too. I know the screen goes dark fairly quick.

15-20 min depending on your battery life. If you are looking to extend the time then use the recharge kit with the controller(s).

I think it's 10 minutes. Maybe 15. If you want to farm things like say in Borderlands you can tie a rubber band around a thumbstick or use duct tape. So long as your guy is spinning it won't turn off.

Can't you specify it yourself in console settings? I'm pretty sure you can.

thats what im thinking, and most likely why so many people have a slightly varried answer. i want to say i've seen the option somewhere, but i cannot remember.

eventually they will turn off, i think you can adjust the time settings though. like others said, if this is for boosting purposes or something just use a rubberband on the trigger (or something of the sort). also just using a wired controller would save batteries + time i think. not sure but i never had to idle my controller for grinding an achievement personally.

my controllers bloody DRINK batteries. If you plan on leaving youre xbox on without using it, invest in a wired. generally a 10-25$ price difference. You'll spend that on batteries in 6 months.

Invest in a Play-N-Charge kit, I do this for games that require time to be invested in (MK, UMvC3 etc.) due to it turning off making it pause the game. I play wireless all the time otherwise.

It's not a problem of money, because i use rechargable batteries since 2009 and only one pair has been broken. They were a really good investment.

I am using my wireless controller to hire a driver on Forza 3 and, if it turns off, the game will be paused automatically.

Yeah I have one and its awesome. Its good because you are still wireless but can plug it in if you need to and keep gaming and it won't shut off at all when plugged in. The screen does get dark but not on Netflix from what I've seen.

Ive had 2 of these and they seem to not be able to hold a charge after about 6 months or so.

so 15$ for play and charge vs. 10$ for 24 pack of AA batteries on amazon. hrm.

I've had my Play and Charge kit for about 4 years and it still holds charge for at least 12 hours.

play and charge kits send out a really bad static if in a party when using certain headsets, such as my older turtlebeach. that's why i stopped using them and started using a dock charger instead.

now i kinda screwed myself though because i've been playing diablo 3, kinda retired from 360 for now... but i've been in parties just to talk and bullshit a bit with friends. and since i'm not actually on my 360, the controller shuts off and it takes me a good 5 minutes to realize i been talking into a headset/controller that's not even on anymore.

I never bothered with a P&C kit because I've got rechargeable AA's.

I just had mine come in today. Among other things it was annoying to grind Forza races (letting the AI race), while having to keep the controller next to me to press a button every so often. Plus even my rechargeable batteries are dying at this point.

As others have written, seems to be about 10-15 minutes depending on battery life. I rotate rechargeable AAs and Xbox brand rechargeable. They seem to stay on longer if the batteries are fresh. I think they will also start to flash the green ring before they shut off.

It is fifteen minutes. The reason I know this is because I used this fact while I was doing the 7 day survivor achievement in Dead Rising.

In Survivor mode, your health deteriorates over time. The game will pause when your controller turns itself off, so when you have full health, the game will pause at 3 bars of health every time if your controller is undisturbed. This allowed me some freedom from babysitting the game for the whole process.

That was my surefire way of not dying accidentally from hunger while I was going for this achievement.

So yeah, 15 min.
