View Full Version : The Elite : Worth the upgrade or No?

I know there may be threads like this already, but I didn't find any so I'm going to post my own.

I've had my 360 since launch and it's been ok, I mean I have a few problems with it every now and then, but all in all I'm pretty happy with it. I'm down to at least 2 gigs left on my HDD and I was wondering if the Elite is really worth the upgrade. I was thinking about getting one anyway, but I don't want to lose what I already have stored on my current HDD. Anybody have any thoughts, and if I were to upgrade, does MS have a cable I can transfer my old data to the new console? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've not got an elite myself but from what I know there is a cable you can get from MS that lets you transfer data from old HD to new HD.

If you're wanting that HD and a brand spanking new xbox with HDMI guaranteed, you're doing the right thing. Wait a few months, till you know you can get the new chipset.

or, if HDMI isnt what you are after you could always go out and just buy the new HDD on its own - if im not mistaken it comes with the transfer cable aswell

Correct JJ.

Purchasing the 120GB HDD by itself, does include a Migration Kit.

If HDMI is NOT what you're aiming for and it seems like what you need is more memory, then go ahead and just purchase the larger HDD. You did say you wanted to purchase the Elite any ways, but do you really want another 360 or just the bigger HDD?

Keep in mind that M$ will only provide a free Migration Kit with the 2 Console ID's. Your current console and new Elite console.

Wait till the new chipsets start cropping up on the consoles, then get the Elite. Thats what I am intending to do.

That is a wise decision, but for those who can't wait, the Elites all come with a heatsink attached to the GPU to alleviate heating problems link to hardware failure.

Has MS announced when those consoles might be available, cause that's a good idea.

In my opinion the elite is worth it, this being my first post, and the fact that I haven't yet brought my console doesn't come into it :p

I'm buying from game and they sell the premium at 249.99 but for the extra 50 u get all that extra memory etc, in my opinion if you have the money to switch, or you are looking to buy an xbox 360, I would wait until you have just that little bit extra money to get the elite.

I know I am!

The only point to get one is if you have a 1080p TV that's bigger then 40 inches or it's pretty much pointless because you can just buy the HDD separate and I'm sure people can customize their case much better then the elite's case.

I was thinking of trading my 360 in at gamestop for money and getting an elite. I would trade the HDD seperate until I got the transfer cable. I think my 360 is going to breakdown soon and don't want someone coming to me 3 weeks later saying it broke. Any info on manufacturing upgrades from the original elite release? Are elites proven to have low failure rates?

As an upgrade it's not worth it, but as a new system it's the way to go.

For me HDMI was not an issue just the memory so I upgraded to the 120 Hard Drive and I have not had any problems. If I ever have to purchase another xbox it will be an elite

If you want extra space just buy a 120GB Harddrive, you save about $200.

But the premiums have those HDMI ports now...or they're getting them soon.

Anything manufactured mid july on has HDMI. It even says on the box.

Elite is cheaper if you want the hard drive and are buying a console. Elite is $450, Pro is $350, and a 120GB HDD is $180. The new Pro systems have the HDMI port but I don't think they come with an HDMI cable which is $50.

With my luck I'd get a new HDD and my current system will break down. haha. I think I might wait a little like a few people suggested. I appreciate the input, everyone.

Go for the Elite if you have HD.

If you don't, just buy the HDD.

This thread really helped, I think I might get an elite now!
