Hey guys!

I hope you all are looking as much forward to play this game as I do, I freakin can't wait!

Anyways, is there any news on how the leveling system in this game is going to work?

Like...:
- Where do we get XP? Singleplayer AND multiplayer?
- How do we level up?`Are there "levels" or simple icons like in Reach?
- If levels, do we gonna have prestiges?!

And so on, and so on... to be honest, leveling always was a big deal for me in Halo therefor I am kind of curious what is going to happen here. Loved the ranking systems in Halo 2 (level 43 -.-) and Halo 3 (6x 50), but I guess this won't have a trueskill matching whatsoever system and be more like the one of Reach, somehow.

Any news on that?

Oh.. and only 46 days to go :woop::woop:

I'm hoping they go back to the way Halo 3 was. A number rank for each game type and then an overall picture rank.

I really dislike Reach's ranking system because it is completely pointless. All it really means is how much you've played the game.

^ This my friend, this.

I have a friend which wasn't able to go for the general in Halo 3 and was stuck on level 47 blaming on me not playing with him as I got enough 50's and going all mad at me. In reach, however, he went for the inheritor and I am stuck at the mythic or what the name was (haven't played reach since December 2011, it was the half moon) and he keeps telling me how good he is ROFL... pathetic. Though my stats are still better than his and he plays in groups, I do on my own... /facepalm.

Anyways, I am kind of hoping for such a system as well, but let's face it.. it is not casual like and that's why they might go for the XP system. I am fine with that too, they just only need to make it good :) ... I can already here my friend bitching at me again though, ... lol. It's hilarious :D

i was thinking about a system that works with winning percentage. I will describe it quickly on the hand with the halo 3 ranks (never bought and played halo reach because of the ranking system and the stupid running, flying, inviceble things)

Halo 3 ranks:
non-skill ranks:
recruit
apprentice (grade 1-2)
private (grade 1-2)
corporal (grade 1-3)
sergeant (grade 1-3)
gunnery sergeant (grade 1-4)

skill ranks:
lieutenant (grade 1-4)
captain (grade 1-4)
major (grade 1-4)
commander (grade 1-4)
colonel (grade 1-4)
brigadier (grade 1-4)
general (grade 1-4)

My idea:
the non-skill ranks based on games played and the skill ranks based on winning percentage of your games.

non-skill ranks:
recruit:
play 1 game, 0% winning
apprentice (grade 1-2):
play 3, 0% won/play 5, 0% won
private (grade 1-2):
play 8, 0% won/play 12, 0% won
corporal (grade 1-3):
play 16, 0% won/play 20, 0% won/play 25, 0% won
sergeant (grade 1-3):
play 30, 0% won/play 35, 0% won/play 45, 0% won
gunnery sergeant (grade 1-4):
play 45, 0% won/play 55, 0% won/play 65, 0% won/play 75, 0% won

skill ranks:
lieutenant (grade 1-4):
play 80, 15% won/play 120, 15% won/play 160, 15% won/play 320, 15% won
captain (grade 1-4)
play 100, 20% won/play 150, 20% won/play 200, 20% won/play 400, 20% won
major (grade 1-4):
play 150, 25% won/play 225, 25% won/play 300, 25% won/play 600, 25% won
commander (grade 1-4):
play 250, 35% won/play 375, 35% won/play 500, 35% won/play 1000, 35% won
colonel (grade 1-4):
play 500, 45% won/play 750, 45% won/play 1000, 45% won/play 2000, 45% won
brigadier (grade 1-4):
play 750, 60% won/play 1125, 60% won/play 1500, 60% won/play 3000, 60% won
general (grade 1-4):
play 1000, 75% won/play 1500, 75% won/play 2000, 75% won/play 4000, 75% won

This is a little part of my idea, rest will come later!

Let me hear what you think abou this small part of the ranking system! Thanks

i love the halo reach system. In halo 3 when u level up u dont know how well u did in a match and when ur struggling to level up again u really have no clue how close u r to ranking up again. Plus i love when the points all add up and the bar goes up fast in halo reach. Gears 3 has been doing the same thing. Halo 4 is going to have the same ranking system as reach.

They should implement both. Similar to the last TU with Halo 3 but with Reach style.

Have your ranked Rank which would be an overall rank for your matches played and won and with your True Skill incorporated into that. Then have your overall rank which is compared of how many games played and how many points earned like you get in Halo Reach. So whenever you play custom, campaign, anything else, you'll see the overall rank. When you get into ranked matches you'll see your true rank next to your overall.

Maybe I missed something, but I was under the impression that the BPR in Reach was the "true skill" ranking and that it was used for matchmaking. It's just not shown in game.

As for how it's going to work in Halo 4, I know that they do have a system similar to the one in Reach where it's just how much you play and what you do earns you points. You get to level 50 and then you get access to the Specializations (so I guess that's kinda like Prestige, I dunno, never play CoD) The Specializations have 10 levels each I believe, and there are 6 of them planned currently that I know of.

I'm not sure about Campaign, but I know Competitive multiplayer and Spartan ops both add to your rank.

From what I've read elsewhere (including a transcript of Sparkast 16 (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=42627272&postcount=1106)):

There's a player rank and a specialisation rank.
The former is like Reach's ranking, the latter is a separate unlock system.
The specialisation rank goes to 50 levels, and then has a 10 level "prestige" tier that unlocks the armour mod. So, if I'm getting this right, those unlocks in the LE are all of these unlocked from the start. EDIT - confirmed (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Specializations).
Assumedly, underpinning it all will be your invisible TrueSkill rank.

BPR, by the way, is just a score out of 100 that tracks your win/loss and k/d. TrueSkill was invisible in Reach, IIRC.

hopefully a mix of both leveling systems as many have said. although, I've heard/read it will be more like Reach.

Each spec is only 10 levels. The specs themselves are the prestige unlocks after you hit level 50 overall. You don't have to hit level 50 with each one, you can't use any of them until you're level 50.

This article on Destructiod breaks it down decently. - Link. (http://www.destructoid.com/halo-4-specializations-explained-and-how-they-re-unlocked-233266.phtml)
The article name is a little misleading, since it's more about the LE than the Specializations, but the relevant blurbs are
...Basically, any of the Specializations can be unlocked after your Spartan reaches level fifty..... Purchasers of the “Halo 4” Limited Edition will get access on launch day, while others will have to wait as Specializations are released over time.Anything is possible, but I doubt anyone will actually hit level 50 on launch day. But the non LE buyers will only have access to 2 of the 8 specs when they do hit 50 (unless of course they don't hit 50 until after 343 has unlocked more of them)

Just want to say I absolutely do not believe the OP was level 43 legit in Halo 2. There's probably less than 100 people in the world that managed that feat, maybe less than 50. The way the ranking system was designed it would be practically impossible with all the standby and modded maps people would throw at you in high-level play practically every time. And regardless, it doesn't say much as most people were locked out at about 40 so you can't really say you played the best to get there anyway.

That said, I hope the ranked games actually show a number that can go up and down next to your name. I do not understand games that don't do this - it completely sabotages the amount of fun you can have if you have no ranking.

i feel like it will be something kinda like reach's leveling/exp system. but i prefer the classic halo 3 rank system for the fact that you get legitimate bragging rights because if you do bad a lot you go down on rank so that gives you the bragging right to brag to your friend how much better you are then them when they bring up the I'm better than you subject. you can comeback with the classic "your rank is 20 my rank is 30 lets do a 1v1" challenge. see i miss those skills needed to maintain your rank instead of killing and leveling up without having the thought of crap if i don't win i'll go down on rank. good ol'days:drunk

Would love to see a trueskill-level-system like in Halo 2.

Reach was just horrible...
Play 1 year - it doesn't matter how good you are - and you get the last rank, yay... -_-'

That wasn't Reach's ranking system. Reach's ranking system was Arena. How that ever passed as a good idea, I'll never guess. It didn't encourage team play at all (actually it encouraged being a lone wolf and stealing kills), and bad games had no effect at all. So basically you were trying to do extremely well three times a day no matter how mediocre you were. If you did this, you looked amazing.

The system you mentioned in Reach is definitely coming back. There's nothing wrong with that. It gives casual players goals to reach and everyone enjoys leveling up in such a fashion. You can easily have this and a trueskill ranking system so there's no reason not to have it.

As for the ranking system, Halo 3's was bad. The top tier got extremely mashed together. The skill difference between level 50's was vast. Halo 2's was much better (on accident) because it wasn't actually possible to hit the max level unless you were a cheater. This allowed for skillful players to be better spread out throughout the ranks.

I think they should emulate Halo 2's ranking system and make wins worth less than losses.

Y'see, I'd love to see the return of Reach's levelling - but with the non-military ranks sloughed off for exceptional stuff. So, Reclaimer, Nova etc. could be for, say, being the first to achieve something - first solo Legendary finish, etc. It'd make them more interesting, I think...

what if they did social playlists like reach and ranked matches like halo 3?
