Amazon.com has updated its listings unveiling a new Xbox 360 edition. Scheduled for release on October 23, 2007, the Xbox 360 Arcade Console has a price of $279.99.

The Core Edition of the Xbox 360 has been a victim of many rumors since Microsoft announced it will release different editions of its next-generation system. So far, the cheapest Xbox 360 has survived all the rumors that claimed it will be discontinued and it seems it will only be replaced by an updated model that will come with some Xbox Live Arcade games and possibly HDMI (since the next-generation A/V port has been incorporated in all other editions except the Core)

* UPDATE *

Toy "R" Us has also revealed an "Xbox 360: Arcade System (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2893174&cp=2255974)" that will be released on October 25, 2007.

Pftttt, getting a few arcade games worth 15 is going to make this sell better than the Core? Right...

How can you play arcade without an HDD? Don't you have to download it?

They will probably be loaded into the console which will have something to put just them on, it isn't going to be codes unless you get a free memory unit in the box and you have to put them on there.

Regardless of HDMI, there is little reason to get it as most people will already have the games or they will be the crap ones that noone wants to play.

I can't read anything the words are too small. I believe you though, as that is the only way it makes sense.

Edit:
I could be wrong but I believe the arcade games come on a disc.

Eh, actually that makes more sense. I totally forgot that they could come on a disk, lol.

Adding more street cred and pretty much confirming the rumor of a new Xbox 360 Arcade console that is set on a mission to replace the Core is brand new pre-order proof. Both Amazon.com and Toys R Us are offering pre-orders for a yet to be announced product called the Xbox 360 Arcade console set to retail for $279 in the US and be released either on October 23rd or the 25th. The new Arcade console (which features a wireless controller, memory card and a few XBLA games) has been rumored for a while now and recently appeared in Best Buy's product database, but now with these pre-orders popping up all over we're rather confident in accepting its existence. Sorry Microsoft, your product announcement plans have been foiled once again by the evil that goes by the name of ... retail.

Did you even read the thread?

We just think that it is ridiculous to say that it is in plain view or easily readable because you kinda have to know what words are there before you can make it out.

This seems pretty reasonable. Wireless controllers needed to be phased out completely, the core system only needed a price drop, and I suppose this is just as good, though I'd rather pay $250 for a non HDMI one. It's a shame they won't do original arcade games, though. I guess it's good for the new people, who are now by law required to download Uno after connecting to Xbox Live.

We don't have anything in our computers for this, and we always do console pre-orders. I'm calling the DM!

From what I heard, it's a 256MB memory card.

Anyone keeping count on how many models and package deals M$ has put out?:p

OK, so M$ adds another SKU to their lineup. Most retailers don't even have enough shelf space for all of M$'s consoles. I'm not sure if a Memory Card or a few Arcade games will lure consumers into buying the new Core. HDMI is a great feature to have, but I still think that's not enough to attract consumers.
