How Does It Work?

Once you use it the other persons rock meter slowly goes down. If they miss notes it goes even faster, but if they hit notes it goes slower.

If Birky's right, then I'm ashamed of myself...

I thought it was whoever was first to launch it, they would eventually win

He is right, I was in a battle and the other person threw a death drain at me first and while in that drain I manage to get one too and I threw it at him and I nailed all my notes while the other didn't so my death drain got him!! despite he used his first.

If you throw down two, does it go twice as fast?

It sure does.

Yes, that poorly-animated skull will get a little bigger on your opponent's screen if you use another Death Drain.

In sudden death when you both activate it whoever misses the first note will almost lose. I have heard of one case where someone missed one note but then the other person missed like 10 right after and lost.

last night I lost while hitting 100% of the notes, while my counterpart only hit 99%. we both launched two death drains on each other at the exact same time, but mine came down sooner or faster...don't know.

can anyone explain THAT???

its a possibility that your rock meter was slightly lower going into overtime, making yours have to travel less distance for the failure than his, just a guess

On easy all I do is save up all my powers until overtime and then use them before he gets his DD... Well, I guess I know what to do for 15 consecutive wins with a controller :D

If your opponent is playing on a lower difficulty their rock metre goes down slower, so maybe the other guy was playing hard and you were playing expert?

which sucks, especially if you're playing pro face off on hard and some jerkwad is playing on medium.

yeah, even though you can select different difficulties now, there's still no reason to. If you get to overtime, the lower difficulty will ALWAYS win unless they can't hit anything.
