fox1604658869
I'm a little worried that Xbox Live is getting a little too game of the week. People are sick of Halo 3 after 2 months. Team Fortress didn't even last that long and people are sick of it. How many weeks before everyone is sick of CoD4? On one hand I think it's great that people are playing so many new and exciting games to keep things fresh. On the other hand it doesn't seem like ANY games really have any staying power what so ever.
PerpetualHeaven
People aren't getting sick of Halo 3. Go to Bungie.net and look at the stats. 39,336 players online right now while 908,308 UNIQUE players played in the last 24 hours. That's extremely consistent. Same with COD4. There's around 33,000 or so people online right now. I don't think XBL is very game of the week. Gears of War is consistently having a lot of people on it. It's almost impossible not to find a good match on Gears and it's been more then a year.
RedBlinky
On the contrary I find it odd how almost every xbox live game for the 360 has people on it. The old XBOX always had lots of games that were empty all the time. But I can still find an NBA Live 06 game or Top Spin 2. I think the 360 is the exact opposite of what you described, just pop in Tony Hawk: American Wasteland there will still be people there.
Zef
People are always going to want to play their shiny new game all the time when it is released, then fall back to what they prefer playing regularly. When Eternal Sonata came out I only played that, once I got bored of it I just went back to my older games, then Assassin's Creed came out and the same thing happened, now GHIII is out and once again it is the same. If you kept track of the top ten most played games and looked at when new games are out there will be spikes when those game are out, then it will die down eventually. Nothing wrong with that at all. But I disagree with the 'staying power' idea, people just prefer different games. I remember back in the Xbox days when for most people 70+% of their friends list was just people playing Halo 2, at least now people are playing new titles even if it is just for a few days/weeks. Thanks to achievements people are still playing older games online, otherwise the oldies would be long gone by now.
Lunacy182
I rent older games and I'll try them online thinking that no one else will be playing, but sure enough there are still people I can play with. Games like Halo 3 and CoD4 will still have people playing them way after a new console is released. Just look at Halo 2. People are still playing that online. Pinworm45
It's not so much "game of the week" as it is "game to talk about of the week". Gears of War, for example, still has many many players, it's just not as new as CoD 4, so naturally, people talk about CoD 4 more. It would be kind of.. silly to come here, for example, a year later and say "Isn't it cool to chainsaw people in GoW?" Yeah, it is, but we know. We've known for a year. Where as CoD 4 is new. LethalRope
Yes think of gears of war its been out for around 1 year and have consistant players on ranked and social. I find myself playing gears regulary and its not boring. New content opens the door again also.
