I'm going to be playing this game soon, and I was just wondering how long will it take. To see if its even worth it. Since most of COD gamers are playing COD 4. Post here how long it took you to get it!!!

I'm shooting for those online achievements right now, and it's tough getting anything going in ranked. Games take upwards fifteen minutes to simply start because people come and go and wait as "not ready" and often times when something actually does get going a few people quit. I have no problem playing online in unranked, but ranked is just... annoying e_e

When i get in a game, about half of the time the online match crashes for some reason... it is very annoying.

Is there a method of getting General rank a little quicker if you get a group of boosting buddies together?
From memory, there's no party mode, any tips on getting into the same room as your friends?

5 days, 6 hours a day

I guess you must have won every match, and have like 100 points each.
Was that when the game 1st came out?

to get the 8k (major i think) i took me like 2-3 days with host quitting and playing gears
20k it took me around 15 days with the same playing gears host etc.. and other games
40k stopped cuz i returned it and it was getting a bit harder there was a lot of ppl still but they didnt have the new maps i had so it got harder for me.. than them

It took me about 2 months, with about 2-3 weeks of that period playing very little or not at all.

During that time period, about 60% of my points came from "Flag Boosting" and 40% from playing straight up.

See Flag Boosting threads for explanation of this time saving trick.

It's almost impossible to reach General these days, no one plays Ranked anymore. :(

9 people so far looking to boost it, including me. ;-)

Surely you kid.

He did. Look at his achievement dates. Don't know why you would say something like that. But yeah, it took me 41 days-ish? Could have taken me less but I got so bored of this game.

'sigh... why did I ever think getting 40000 would be doable?

Credit to anyone who's got it, but I'm going to quit when I hit Major,

I've just spent 2 days playing for around 2-3 hours on each and I only got... 460 points.

Maybe I should quit and get something more reasonable... Like GoW's 'seriously...' :(

LOL... I'm just amazed by just how many people are still playing this game. I'd have thought that with Cod 4 out, it'll be dead.

Seems like there are loads of like minded people out there.

I've actually played with you a number of times. You'll probably catch me playing War or CTF ('trying' to get a point match).

im sorry dude....not fuckin possible unless you did some capture the flag boosting!!! it took me a little over a month of playing, trying to average 1000 points a day. 5 days dude...get the fuck outta here. if you did boost for it, be honest and admit it. this achievement was probably one of my top 10 of all my games. it was time consuming as hell!!

Exactly pimpsta... my Major to General took me 6 days (4-5 hours daily).

But before then, the leap from Lieutenant to Captain took me nearly 2 months playing legit/non points matches.

If you don't believe us... look on my xbox.com profile.

It shouldn't take long as I obtained the Leutenant(spelling?) achievement in about an hour playing War and got 1000 pts in maybe 5-6 hrs. The servers are still good though as I got matches with an average of 12-16 players

Even if you play everyday for 6 hours and get 1000 points a day you, it will still take you 40 days to do it and thats playing it solid. Its unlikely you will play six hours a day everyday until you get it, so it will take you even longer. Unless of course you start boosting.

More than 100 actually, or it would've taken a lot longer.

I did it during December 07 (and was #1 on the leaderboard because of it)

If people are still interested i've found there are still plenty of games being played. You have to pick your time to play though, after 9pm when the Americans are online if your from Europe else its a nightmare trying to find a game.

You should look at the achievement trading thread ... there are a bunch of us folks that are boosting. You'll be able to get about 400 points/match instead of 400/night if you join us.

I got my General last night. Woohoo! My boosting was slow in the beginning until I got a great group of people and found the right times. You gotta learn who the anti-boosters are (and avoid them) or you just waste your time fighting them off. I only played late at night after the family went to bed; so 2 hours of play time would net me about 2k points. The most I got in 1 day was 5,800 points.

05-22-08 - 200 (Lieutenant)
08-03-08 - 2,000 (Captain)
10-15-08 - 8,000 (Major)
10-24-08 - 20,406 (Colonel)
10-29-08 - 31,892
11-03-08 - 40,172 (General)

As you can see, once I got to 8,000 points, I turned on the heat and lost LOTS of sleep. :) Here are some tips:

1. Learn to throw the flag. If no one throws, no one gets points. Believe me, there will be plenty of opportunities to learn and you will catch on very quickly. Heh, you have 40,000 throws to learn how it works. :)
2. SIT STILL! Huddle up and face each other. Let the thrower do their job and throw it to the group. If you move, it just makes it harder on the thrower.
3. Find a good group and join each other's friend list. Start a Social match, get on the same side so you can all chat. When you have 8 people, all quit and start seaching Ranked. You should all get in the same lobby.
4. Know who are anti-boosters. :uzi:
5. Laggy matches are the best. I've gotten up to 1,300 points per match at 4 points per throw.... and I've gotten as little as 300 points.
6. Thank the throwers after each match. They deserve it.
7. Know who is the host of the match. The person listed 2nd on everyone's list (except for the host) is the host. They will generally only get 1 point per throw and is best if they are the thrower since the thrower generally doesn't get as many points. This helps the whole group. Make sure the host is someone who will not quit in the middle of a match.
8. You keep your earned points even if you quit or the host quits. You do not get your points if the game or console locks up and has to be rebooted.
9. Choose the MEDIC so you can heal people. Sometimes the thrower will accidently shoot and kill a teammate. You can be there to heal them.

I hope this helps others who are still trying for the achivement. I don't think the servers will be closing. Plus, this game runs on the peer-to-peer network with the console actually hosting the game. The points/leaderboard is the only thing I think that is being hosted. I guess we'll see if something happens.

Again, I would like to thank all those who helped me in all my matches.
I'll go ahead and admit/state that I'm gonna cross-post this in the achievement trading thread.

This is how it's currently going for me. As long as you boost all day besides sleep and work and have a boosting group that does the same, it should take you 2 weeks of boosting to make General from nothing. I've been boosting for about 5 days now and I have 20,000 points (Colonel). As long as I have as good a boosting day like yesterday (9000 points) then I could go from Colonel to General in 3 days.

I'm just posting this to show an idea of the how fast it's possible to get to General from nothing. Some people get there faster or slower but this is how it's going for me, putting in 100% time into CoD3 besides sleep and work.

EDIT: Finally got my General achievement today 12-05-08, and my 1000http://www.xbox.com/xweb/xbox/xboxV2/images/G_nav.gif. If you have some time off like I do, besides sleep boosting all day should get you about 10,000 points. I got 10,000 points 3 days in a row and really I've only had to boost about 5 days or something. Well I'm off to finish some other game now, hopefully I don't end up boosting a game like I just did CoD3 for quite a while lol...

Took me from 20,000-40,000 about 2 days, but I wasn't on for half a day so it takes about 1 1/2 days for 20,000 points so about 3 days total, then add bordom breaks so make it about 4 1/2 days to get from 0-40,000.

12-19-2008, 06:46 PM
Took me 5 days of boosting about 8 hours a day in capture the flag. It will depend on how much of a lag the host has. A big lag equals big points. Most points in one match was 1571. The average I would get a match was about 450 points.

01-06-2009, 07:30 AM
Took me 2 months but that was due to:

1- Not really knowing about boost "points" matches
2- In July and August, access to the games was shakey at times. I could wait in the lobby for 15 minutes for a match, points or not and I got really tired of waiting for matches.

Once a core group of about 12-30 people got into points matches, the going was pretty good but even so, you're talking about 400-800 points a match, and after an hour if you get 1000 points, that's fairly good. My hands would get sore from throwing or it was just boring sitting there, or having to deal with anti-points match guys.
