Didnt expect much, but Portal sucked me in and I loved every minute of it. The whole cake conspiracy is the best story in a game. Haha :woop:

Assassins Creed being too overhyped

01-05-2008, 04:55 AM
Too much hype on Halo 3.

01-05-2008, 05:02 AM
Halo 3 = fun, but not innovative like Halo 2

Most overrated game - BioShock. :p

EDIT - but the biggest surprise must have been how awesome Assassin's Creed was, I really enjoyed it.

01-05-2008, 05:06 AM
Bioshock being my favorite game and Assassins Creed being over hyped

01-05-2008, 05:18 AM
COD 4. I thought it was just going to be the same thing, different guns, but it dominates all other CODS.

01-05-2008, 05:30 AM
Assassin's Creed overhype. The review controversies after it's release. My surprise at how good it was although repetitive.

A new IP called Portal, it simply blew me away.

01-05-2008, 04:34 PM
I was surprised how crappy Assassin's Creed was after all the hype. COD4 surprised me by being amazing and Skate surprised me by being better than I ever thought it could be.

01-05-2008, 04:39 PM
Bioshock was a real surprise for me. When the Elite came out in the UK, I went out to buy some stuff for it, and picked up Bioshock without really knowing too much about it, other than it's good reviews and I was amazed.

01-05-2008, 04:43 PM
BioShock. I figured it was just overhyped but once I played it through the whole way it was like WOW.

Bioshock was a huge suprise to me...when my brother got it I just thought that is a load of shit, no multiplayer and co-op but then he said just have a go and it was awesome, I loved it.

Crackdown was the biggest surprise for me I think, I really enjoyed that game and put many hours into it. Nice graphics, online co-op, good stuff; definitely underated.

01-05-2008, 10:33 PM
Earth defense force was a great surprise.
Too bad the second one didn't come out here.

01-05-2008, 11:04 PM
Two worlds. If you can look past the poor graphics and frame rate, underneath there is a fantastic rpg!

How good Assassin's Creed as and how bad Halo 3 was

01-06-2008, 02:50 AM
AC was overhyped it was hyped enough lol. Assassin's Creed Rocked. But anyways my biggest surprise was how great Bioshock was it was one of the best game I've ever played thats how good it was.

01-06-2008, 05:15 AM
Halo 3 is over hyped. Alot of people told me it ends with 3 the hell it does. Bungie is smart they won't jepordize losing such a profitable game just by ending it at 3. And from the endings that it showed at the end it give hints that the series isn't complete. (Plus you can't forget that Halo is also a book.)

Assassins Creed was also over hyped its the same thing over again. Just different cut scenes.

Bioshock I know its over hyped I just cant make a decent argument for I haven't played it much.

Call of Duty 4 isn't given the credit I believe it deserves. I could go on forever about why this game should have been named game of the year instead of bioshock. Trust me the series of CoD doesn't end with 4, 5 is already on the way and its:

My biggest suprise was Crackdown. Its such a fun game, very well done too. Ive put countless hours into Co-op.

01-06-2008, 08:41 AM
Team Fortress 2

I never played the original but this game was more fun than halo 3 (which isn't saying much :p )

01-06-2008, 10:00 AM
nba live 08 i was expecting this to be as bad as 07 but damn how wrong was i. it is excellent this years version and i prefer it over 2k8 this year .

To me it was COD4, Modern Warfare. OK sounds cool but how will it work out. I think it is probably the best 360 game I played up untill today! And another surprise to me is Army of Two. Oh wait that still did not come out. What is EA doing? Is it ever comming out?

Bioshock was a lot better than i thought it would be. :)

01-06-2008, 11:55 AM
i thought everyone knew bioshock was going to be great

01-06-2008, 12:09 PM
The Darkness... I didn't expect it to be any good but it rocked my socks off with the awesome story and cinematic gameplay

01-06-2008, 05:50 PM
Call of duty 4, i played threw the WHOLE 6 hours of the campaign and enjoyed all of it. The superb replay value of halo 3 was amazing NOT.

Surprise for my was the Orange Box, at first I thought it looked dumb, then when I saw the Portal video my friend showed me, it looked kinda cool, so I picked it up, and now it's one of my favorites, I love all the games.

Bioshock - I never thought it'd be my type of game but I loved every second of it.

Assassin's Creed - Got it for christmas but didn't really play it much, but when I did I loved it.

PGR4 - Easily my game of the year. As soon as I started playing it I knew it would have me hooked, and it did so for hour after hour :p

Two Worlds - I hated this game, more than I have hated any game before. The graphics were abysmal, the voice acting was a pile of shit and the gameplay was the worst of any game I have ever played.

01-06-2008, 07:29 PM
My biggest surprise was how good Skate turned out. I always thought that it was going to be good from the first time I heard about it, but I never thought it would be that good. I think the demo surprised me more than the retail game, because thats when I first learned the innovative controls.

01-06-2008, 08:20 PM
Bioshock completely dominates anything I have played this year by miles and I have played and got Halo 3, CoD4 , Assassins Creed and Mass Effect.

A lot of surprises for me, BioShock being not so difficult but still one of the coolest games, Halo 3's lasting appeal only lasting about a month for me, even though I read WWE 24/7 mode sucked and didn't think it would suck that much for me, even though i wanted the game I didn't think Naruto would be as fun as it is for, when i first unleashed combos in story mode i was hooked but also how pathetic and cheesy ppl are on online in fights using the same moves over and over and then ofcourse there is COD4, now in terms of shooters I'm good but not super duper freakin awesome or whatever, in Gears Of War i was in my own way though, and I was okay in Halo 3, FPS shooters arent my thing really so i didn't plan on getting COD4 until my friend talked me into it and that game hooked me faster than a lil kid on crack but the most surprising thing is even though I ahve more deaths than kills I do really good in that game and that's why its the coolest, o also Shadowrun turned out to be surprisngly fun as well.

01-07-2008, 06:22 PM
I wasn't really on top of the scene at the time BioShock came out and when it did...Oh my god it was amazing!

01-07-2008, 07:55 PM
I reckon my biggest suprise game of 07 was how bad two worlds was, christ, literally that game hurt

01-07-2008, 09:29 PM
At the moment, Portal. Even though I didn't technically play it in 07, I still love it. I just expected it to be some crappy demo of a game they threw in The Orange Box just to say they put 5 games in.

I love it.

01-07-2008, 11:53 PM
Bioshock was one game I really enjoyed playing, and probably my mos biggest suprise.

01-08-2008, 12:42 AM
Even though I have yet to play a retail copy of it..I was shocked with how much fun Skate was, I thought the skateboarding genre was buried in the ground with all the Tony Hawk titles that have been coming out..but Skate is really impressive to me.
and I am also shocked at how much I don't like Halo 3..

Too much hype on Halo 3.

i agree way overhyped and it was a lame game

01-09-2008, 03:58 PM
I was surprised how crappy Assassin's Creed was after all the hype..

i agree it was meant to be free roaming, search for your target and kill them like an assassin. it was linear, repetitive and much worse than i thought it could have been

01-13-2008, 08:36 PM
Halo 3 not even being the top 5 360 games to me at least ...

1. COD4
2. BioShock
3. Mass Effect
4. Orange Box
5. Skate

01-13-2008, 09:16 PM
BioShock all i knew about it was the reviews that made it sound great. And i played it now im hooked.

01-14-2008, 10:59 PM
COD 4 i wasnt planning on getting it until i found out it was amazing like a weak after it came out

01-14-2008, 11:13 PM
How much FIFA 08 had improved in terms of gameplay.

Haven't played PES 2008 yet though, so I can't really compare the two.

Also, how much fun Bioshock was and how innovative Portal was too. :p

01-14-2008, 11:29 PM
The overhype with Halo 3, even though I knew it was never going to be as good as people made it. But the Multiplayer with all my friends keeps it alive.

Probably Crackdown being so good without myself hearing about it. I played it religiously, even though I still dont have the 1250.

I had no idea about bioshock until i downloaded the demo the day before release and i went down to tesco the first minute it was open to buy it, it really came out of nowhere for me :)

also how much i liked halo 3 after everyone saying how much they hated halo 3 i really wasnt expecting much when i got it for christmas and i love it, online and offline its fantastic

01-15-2008, 06:43 AM
While i expected COD4 to be awesome, it was more awesome then i thought it would be. Playing it on veteran is one of the funnest expieriances i've had in a game :) goin through arcade mode now and still having a blast.

Also Mass Effect...to be honest when i first heard about ME I just thought "There will never be an RPG as good as KOTOR" but when it came out it got really awesome reviews so i picked it up and i've cleared it 7 times now :p Its only just now started to become boring.

Most suprising news was when GTA4 got delayed :( i wanted to punt a kitten into traffic.

01-15-2008, 06:49 AM
Assassin's Creed overhype. The review controversies after it's release. My surprise at how good it was although repetitive.

If you consider AC repetitive, do you feel the same about of the Guitar Hero games? All you do is press buttons over and over again:(

01-15-2008, 07:10 AM
Bioshock was an awesome game...too bad I had to sell it in need of money. Let's talk about Assassins creed, the first impression was like whoa this game is simply amazing but as I played even more and more...it became a bit boring and repetative. The most surprise was no doubt, Mass Effect, first I thought that a rpg that takes place in space can't be any good but I gave it a go since it was a Bioware production and it had me hooked for all the 37 hours and am now playing it through again.

01-15-2008, 04:12 PM
If you consider AC repetitive, do you feel the same about of the Guitar Hero games? All you do is press buttons over and over again:(

you cant compare these 2 games though guitar hero thats the reason to play the games but assassians creed is a very large world where you go around killing people talking killing people talking over and over again
