View Full Version : Just Cause 2

A sequel to Just Cause (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3142435) was already more or less guaranteed (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3156671) by Eidos a mere few months after that game's release. Thus it should come as no surprise that CVG (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=178432) is reporting on the official unveiling of Just Cause 2 in the pages of PSW Magazine.
In Just Cause 2, players will once again take control of Rico Rodriguez, the smooth-talking CIA operative who started a whole lot of revolution in the first game. The tropical island setting also returns, although it's a new island, this time in South East Asia. The island will also feature high mountains that eventually lead to snowy precipices. Gameplay-wise, the goal remains the same: infiltrate the island and start uprisings in different regions until the whole country is free and the big bad can be taken down.
Curiously, Just Cause 2 lead designer Peter Johansson notes that they will be getting rid of side missions altogether in the sequel. These were a major aspect of the first game, with over 300 side missions offered up to take up time and encourage exploration. Johansson explains the change thusly: "Freedom is something of a myth - again GTA we're looking at you. In Just Cause 2 freedom should be more of a reality." Weighty words. We'll be keeping an eye on Just Cause 2 to see if they're also accurate. The only console that the article confirms for the game is PlayStation 3, but given that the original was available on the PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, and PC, we wouldn't be surprised to hear more SKUs announced in the near future. In the mean time, take a history lesson via 1UP's review (http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3154315&sec=REVIEWS) of Just Cause.

My favourite screenshot so far! ^^

Just look at the smoke coming out the back of the rocket launcher! You think wind and weather will affect that smoke? We'll just have to wait and see...

I'm surprised there isn't already a Just Cause 2 forum yet too. :p

That picture does look nice :).

All i remember of the first one was jumping out of a plane and flying into the sea and then i turned it off at my mates because it was taking hours to swim to the sand ....

i tryed playing just cause on my old 360 but it wouldint work, kept freezing or wouldnt load, went through like 7 used copies at gamestop, but since the laser just went on that 360 that might be why. so i am gonna pick it up again. the amount that i actually got to play it, it seemed like such a fun game and it would be great to play the second one after i beat the first one.

Just Cause didn't look great aesthetically, but that screenshot is total eye candy. Hope it's an ingame shot and not a pre-rendered shot. That said I still don't think I'll get it.

Looks good i just didnt like the controls, the way the game saved (tooked to long) and the travelling but apart from that it was a good game...

The only thing i didn;t like about JC was the landscape was too big and it was hard to get around! Other than that it was amazing!

You mean my sig? I have no idea why not... :( But thats for another thread. Main disadvantage of the first game was the repetitiveness, if they add more variation in Just Cause 2 then it'll be a great game.

those pictures look amazing. the only thing i hated about the first game was that there was to much traveling getting to different missions.

Can't wait for this one as I had a lot of fun with the first one. Hopefully and judging from the screens it will be getting a graphical upgrade. I would also like to see some level up aspects or upgradeable skills.

The only problem I had with just cause is that the map was way to big, but other than that it was a great game, looking forward to the sequal.

I actually didn't mind the big map, I just didn't like how empty it was. Also skyscraper bordering wilderness is never good, as proven by the original mercs.
