Call of Duty 3 (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3148400) was a bit of a disappointment (http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3155038&sec=REVIEWS):(. Some said that's because previous CoD titles did about all that's left to be done with the World War 2 setting. Others thought it was due to Treyarch taking over development duties from Infinity Ward. The total awesomeness of Call of Duty 4 (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3159064) could be used to back up either of those theories, but Activision seems to be ignoring the evidence.
It hasn't been officially announced that Treyarch will be developing Call of Duty 5, but recent job listings (http://activision.taleo.net/servlets/CareerSection?art_ip_action=FlowDispatcher&flowTypeNo=13&pageSeq=2&reqNo=18720&art_servlet_language=en&csNo=10067#topOfCsPage) (via Gamer (http://www.gamer.tm/news.php?id=1848)) reveal that they are definitely working on a Call of Duty title... and it very well might be jumping back to the World War 2 time period. Treyarch's listing for both single and multiplayer level builders features the following qualification:
"Working experience with First-Person Shooter or Third-Person Shooter genres (console or PC). And if you're a fan of World War 2 shooters, then even better!"With CoD4 still fresh on gamers' minds, an official announcement is likely still a long ways off, but this seems to provide a pretty heavy hint about the direction Treyarch will be taking with the upcoming game. We want to know your thoughts. Does more World War 2-based Call of Duty still interest you, or has that well been run thoroughly dry?

i like the new setting better, but i will buy it just because i love COD games. Allthough if infinity ward doesnt make the game, i might not be as inclined to buy it. COD 3 was shit and if Tyerarch makes it, it will be shit agian.

This has already been discussed in the Call of Duty 4 forums. ;)

I think in general companies need to put a hold on the WWII shooters for a while. I love that Call of Duty implemented their excellent gameplay into a modern setting. I think instead of pumping out a new one each year, Infinity Ward should work on a new installment every 2-3 years and keep the series fresh without being forced on us each year.

They're just trying to keep up with the number of wars the US is getting involved in. If they do just one every 2-3 years, by 2010 they'll be 5 wars behind!

WWII Games get boring, but so do Modern, I wouldn't mind either as long as gameplay and graphics are a bit different.

As long as the guys that made CoD2 and CoD4 make it, it should be awesome. Those guys that made CoD3 just sucked it up.

I hope they dont jump back to WW2, everyone seems to produce these. I though COD 4 was a bresh of fresh air. Maybe COD 5 could be future warfare?

There are already a lot of WWII shooters out there but I really enjoyed COD 3. Too bad they're going back to WWII again...
