XBLA Limits Are Problematic For Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix (http://kotaku.com/350621/xbla-limits-are-problematic-for-street-fighter-2-turbo-hd-remix)

Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix (http://kotaku.com/gaming/super-street-fighter-ii-turbo-hd-remix/ssfiithdr-made-softer-more-cuddly-for-casuals-321773.php) isn't your dad's Street Fighter 2. While the original arcade classic was just 250k, in 1080p HD the game could be topping Microsoft's 150MB download limit on LIVE Arcade. And according to the game's director, David Sirlin, it's making development problematic.
It's difficult to store so many 1080p graphics (http://kotaku.com/gaming/super-street-fighter-ii-turbo-hd/super-street-fighter-ii-turbo-hd-sprite-comparison-254328.php) in such a small download size...It also makes it difficult or impossible to include all the original game's music AND all the remixed set of music. We're still doing our best to fit within the limit we've been given. And even if all that fits, there are some unnannounced features that will find it difficult staying in the final game. While LIVE download limits force efficient, creative programming, here's hoping Microsoft makes an exception just this one time and let's us have this game as nature intended.

Seriously though, do you need an arcade game in 1080p? No, the percenbtage of people who play on 1080p I'm sure will not mind that the graphics for an arcade game are not SuperHD. Plus I bet the percentage of people who buy this game who have 1080p is very low.

Can't they just split the game in half and have 2 separate downloads?

I wonder if they could. That would be a great idea, plus they would make extra money when people upgrade their TV, and just have to have the better graphics.

I who is a SF fan who has been looking forward to this is disappointed about this news. I hope Microsoft up the limits because this game will extremely sell well on XBLA and it will satisfy my SF fanboyism. Also, this will convince people to buy more hard drives and memory cards so Microsoft better up the limit plus 250MB is too little. You got PS3 games that are more than that.

Still it would have been nice if Microsoft thought a bit and provided the 360 with something more than a 20GB (13GB in reality if you delete all the pre-installed crap) Hard Drive.

The limit on the arcade games is actually a good thing - otherwise you have programmers not compressing files that could easily be compressed - thus wasting valuable space.

I do agree though - HD SF2 will be very nice!

Isnt this SUPER Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD though? It has all 16 characters...

The limit on the arcade games could also be seen as a bad thing though because the gamers in the end are geting the short end of the stick. We are getting something that is not what it was fully supposed to be.

MS just has the limits because of the people who bought a 360 w/o a HDD, well that was there choice and they should be the ones paying in the end, not the whole mass of your consumers. As Joystiq said about this topic "don't punish the many for the questionable purchasing decisions of the few."

I think the mandates and limits of game sizes for XBLA games are good intentioned towards protecting those who bought an Xbox 360 Core. However, I'm sure most core users were well aware of the size limitations of a memory card and would have to upgrade to a 20gb or 120gb harddrive eventually.

Compression techniques are vastly superior to what they were years ago, the quality is virtually the same while the disc space is reduced significantly. Games like Omega Five, Undertow, Rez HD, amaze me because they are so full of content and quality but remain smaller than 50mbs of space.

I think its time to make some exceptions for games that go a little over the limit however, a memory card cant exactly last very long for core users and they gotta understand that sacrifices are made when you buy a lower price point console.
