Yeah, that overhyped Gears of War 2 GamePro article has been trashed (http://kotaku.com/352774/epic-shoots-down-gamepros-gears-2-exclusive) by Epic honcho Mark Rein, who called the article "complete nonsense." Since the developer hasn't given the magazine an exclusive, what the hizzy heck does the article actually say? Kotaku commenter Willows (http://kotaku.com/352774/epic-shoots-down-gamepros-gears-2-exclusive) sent us a scan of the article. It reads:

Gears of War 2 hasn't officially been announced yet, but our sources rumor that the sequel to the Xbox 360 hit is indeed coming in 2008. And what better way for Microsoft to counter Metal Gear than with a few gears of its own.

But it's not enough to just retread shooter territory in Gears 2. The first game was great, but it didn't blow anyone away with originality. It simply put all the best aspects of other shooters into one amazing package. And aside from the obvious graphical superiority and online co-op mode, most of Gears of War was standard shooter stuff.

Yep! Hit the jump for the rest of the article: What should we expect? In Gears 2, expect a slight graphical boost. We also think four-player co-op is a must this time around. Seeing as how a number of other games are doing the team co-op thing, Gears 2 shouldn't slack in that department. Overall, the multiplayer will probably see the most changes in the sequel. Though definitely fun, Gears of War's online multiplayer component was no-frills. Expect a better matchmaking system, more game modes and better ranking.

What shouldn't we expect?
Don't expect anything crazy or revolutionary. This probably won't be a game that blows down doors and bends genres. The graphics probably won't be a huge jump over the first game simply because there's not a lot of leeway there, as the first game was already so graphically impressive. Also, don't expect anything crazy on the online side like customizable video sharing. This is an action-packed shooter and Epic will surely be sticking to the heavy action stuff.

It's certainly possible for Gears of War 2 to slip into 2009, but we think Microsoft is pressing Epic to deliver the game by the holiday season of 2008. That's when it could help the Xbox 360 the most.

And this was worth mentioning on the cover (http://kotaku.com/352079/gears-2-info-coming-this-week)? Not once, but twice?!

Nice job finding all these news articles Jdm, they are appreciated. Looks like GamePro just wanted to move a few extra issues this month..nothing but speculation with no concrete evidence, definitely not worthy of a magazine article. Speaking of Gears, I hope the 2nd one will be much better. I sometimes feel I am alone in this, but I felt that besides the great campaign the multiplayer was poorly designed and was not fun at all. Host advantage, glitches, very limited long range combat unless you have a longshot/torque bow/boomshot. Round after round sprinting into each other with shotguns while some dude hides completely out of any of your weapons reach with an aforementioned weapon. Not my idea of fun, COD4 ftw.

your definately not alone. i wasnt too impressed by the online side of GoW either because it just didnt appeal to me. i loved the campain, but like kyosh1ro said, there was always just sprinting at each other for close kills and that just got old after the first couple of times.

Lolz, owned. I loved the Gears campaign, so I am looking forward to the sequel, if it's coming that is.

I love GoW as well. The multiplayer feature was awesome. And the story is something I am looking forward to as well.

I think the game is going to be great whenever it does come out. But if you think it's coming out this year, think again. GTA4 was supposed to come out in like October last year and it's coming out almost in May now. It'll never be ready in time.

Then use tactics so counter that attack, such as retreaing, using a sniper, taking up better positions, or just diving out of way and getting a shotgun out.

The first Gears is my favourite ever game, but I'd be dissapointed to see a Gears of War 2 this year. Why? Because I want them to spend alot of time on it to make it another amazing title, not just rush it out because the PS3 is starting to do well.

what makes you think they haven't been developing it since early 07. Remember Gears came out back in Nov of 06. There's a slight chance they've been working on this for a while. But I do agree they shouldn't rush this game.
