View Full Version : Games You Expected More From

I've heard countless people say how great a game is and they can't wait for the next one, then when the sequel does come out it really isn't all they wanted it to be, well what were you hoping that this game would have?

Im going to give an example, I expected Halo3 to be so much better than Halo 2 but truthfully I wasn't too impressed.

lately Rainbow Six Vegas 2, game was absolutly terrible, 1 > 2

also wasnt a sequel but Dark Sector, expected that to be a great game and that was terrible too

The last hour or so of Bioshock. Very awesome game, except for the ending and last few parts.

Everyone jizzes all over it, but honestly; I far prefer CoD2...

I agree with rainbow 1 > rainbow 2

SvR07 is better than 08

Call of duty 2 is better than 3 for obvious reasons and 4 is better than 3.

I like a lot of Halo 3 but it wasn't all that. The Lost game looked okay but that really sucked, especially the ending.

Does it have to be a sequel? If not, my input into this thread includes Blue Dragon. Man, I wanted to love that game, but I couldn't get past the kiddie characters, dialogue and for the most part, story...

Two Worlds for me. I thought that game was going to be a great RPG, but no it sucked big time.

Tony Hawk's Proving Ground. Project 8 was so fun, and then THPG came along and sucked so badly. Kane and lynch could've been better too.

I completely agree with this statement. The back cover of the game case said, "It's Oblivion on steroids." But it was more like Oblivion on Down Syndrome.

I have found that the less you look forward to a game the better it is.

Dead rising was the reason I bought a 360. I still don't know why I can't play it for more than 10 minutes. I thought I was alone but there are others that share my feelings.

Halo 3 just has better graphics but honestly i wish i could play Halo 1 on xbox live. And Bioshock was cool but it was just alittle to out there. It was still an alright game.

Definitely Rainbow Six Vegas 2 - how sucky is that?! Graphics aren't too wonderful and it's just generally rubbish.

Two worlds was a massive let down too - I was really looking forward to that but the demo just put my right off it. I didn't even bother playing anymore.

I guess so too was Mass Effect. Don't get me wrong, Mass Effect's a brilliant story and game apart from all of the glitches and popup. I just find it hard to get into something where faces are only seen before the end of a conversation 50% of the time :p

Assassin's Creed. Not a sequel, but I was pretty let down by it. Sure running up walls is fun and all, but it gets very old doing the same four missions.

Definitely Army of Two. I think its a decent game but could've been much better. Maybe once they patch the multi player and the two new DLC missions come out (only if they are free... i'm not spending money to make the campaign as long as it should have been). I've played through it several times and its still fun but its way too short to justify buying it.

04-16-2008, 04:00 PM
Hell, even though it was still an amazing game, I was expecting MUCH more that was offered to me from Mass Effect.

Before release, it was boasted about all the planets in the game. I was expecting to be able to land on most, if not all, of these planets and was expecting to see some barren wastelands, some with high-tech space stations built on then and some in the middle of war etc.

What was given to me though, was 2-3 planets per solar system that were basically barren wastelands apart from 1 or 2, which were nothing spectacular either...

Yes, Mass Effect was brilliant, but it could've been better. It could've been revolutionary.

CoD4

Everyone jizzes all over it, but honestly; I far prefer CoD2...
I Love You.

I was pretty disapointed with Halo 3, like everyone else, simply because it felt like I had to complete it, and there really wasn't alot to complete. Legendary isn't even Legendary. A 8 year old hyped up on sherbet could probably complete it given enough time. Single player also sucked epic balls. They could of easily added more levels to make it slightly more interesting. (Or given it a decent storyline.)

Dead Rising. I really wanted to love this. I tried so hard to love it, but I just couldn't get into it. I couldn't read any text which was a turn off. So after an hour of not being able to read what I was supposed to be doing I decided to change it up a bit. I spent the next hour killing zombies with random stuff I could find. Then got bored and gave it back to my friend. Maybe I'll give it another shot when I get a better tv.

Army Of Two.
After just completing it, I can say the ending was thrown together in around 3 minutes. The game it self was alright, the ending sucked ass though.

04-16-2008, 07:36 PM
Mass Effect.

It wasn't so much the game itself, I enjoyed it quite a bit. But why does an Uncharted World have to be a desolate wasteland?

Halo 3

Reason:

It sucked! It flopped! It was Halo 2 with a little jazz. Sorry but I wanted some more from it. I played Halo 2 at least 1 hour a day for years but Halo 3 is just getting more dust on it.

Where shall I start....

Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 - It's more of a expansion pack than a new game.

PES 2008 - Online is awful, along with the game on single player.

Halo 3 - Still the B***S**T in Multiplayer and the story was weak.

Call of Duty 3 - The Single player is awful.

Delas
04-19-2008, 09:20 AM
I think mine would also have to be Halo 3 despite how much I enjoyed it. There was such a hype around it and everyone put it so high up on a pedestal before it was even released. The hype was too big for the game and that cost it in the end. Still one of the best games on the 360 but when you compare it to how built up it was, wasn't much different to the first two.
I'm hoping that this doesn't happen for GTA4 or GoW 2, I'm looking forward to both but everyone is getting so excited for them but will they perform with push comes to shove?

Dabigamc
04-19-2008, 07:00 PM
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 - Terrible online
LOST Via Domus - Perhaps the worst 360 game, TV show only lol
Halo 3 - Was so anticipated but got boring after a few weeks

knockton55
04-19-2008, 07:16 PM
Assassins Creed - Variety would have been nice
Devil May Cry 4 - Too short AGAIN
Mass Effect - I thought the choices where supposed to affect everything, once again a lie.
Bioshock - Erm....online? A little bit longer?
Halo 3 - Campaign *shakes head*...
Call Of Duty 4 - Same as Halo 3

Most games dissapoint, if games where just left alone to be developed then topics such as this wouldnt exist

CoD4

Everyone jizzes all over it, but honestly; I far prefer CoD2...
CoD2 was (and still is) an amazing game, but I could never really get into the 360 version, whereas I absolutely loved the PC version, I used to play on it for hours on end. I have to agree about CoD4 though, I was expecting it to be great, but it was disappointing.

Assassin's Creed was another disappointing game too, I expected much more from it.

Mass Effect - I thought the choices where supposed to affect everything, once again a lie.
Whilst I can see where you're coming from. I strongly disagree that Mass Effect was a bad game, I absolutely loved it.

Echoing what has been said:

Two Worlds - Hyped up as awesome, came out as pure crap

Army of Two - Short campaign, crappy online community

Portal - Awesome game, I just wish it was longer. The concept is great and there's so much more that can be done with it. I would love it if this game came out on it's own with more puzzles and challenges!

For me it was Kane and Lynch, was doing great on it till I got to one point and realised that the bit I was on was impossible unless I had a second guy, and at the ttime no one I knew had the game.

Army of two only because it was tooooo short.
there's gonna be DLC for Army Of Two which is gonna add in 2 new campain missions, tho annoyingly it'll more that likely cost MS points, but it's also going to add more multiplayer maps.

Thats one thing that annoys me about Army Of Two, not really the game but EA and their damn reseting the servers . I've lost a ton of money on the online game now, and it's really annoying when your trying to go for the $1billion achivement.

I've always thought the Halo series was overrated but gave it a chance again after Halo 3 came out and really enjoyed it much more but felt it was more of just a solid shooter, not the game to end all games. I played the Two Worlds demo and thought it was a joke MS was pulling on us. I heard so much about this game and how it was the next big Oblivion type game but it felt so dated and it seemed like it was in production for maybe a week or two before they shipped it. Blue Dragon was another one but then I realized I'm not a big fan of JRPGs even though I always want to like them for some reason.

I'm going to have to say GTA4. I have finished the story in what says 3.6 hours on the stats screen. I was going to do side missions and have fun but it doesn't let you play afterward, you have to start a new game in 'free mode' which has a 45 minute time limit then you have to start over again. And the graphics and textures keep disappearing, the entire world goes solid gray every 15 minutes.

...

Kidding. Haven't played it but can't wait!

CoachCO62
04-28-2008, 12:42 AM
There are many games I expected more from but yet continue to buy, many of them are games that come out every year. I have for years expected more out of the smackdown series games, especially with the rosters and the match types, they always talk about what they added but never mention the fact that they took other things away. I really wish that I could have a say in the content of the game, not the development. Why not put 100's of legends in the game and keep all the matches that they had, like the elimination chamber.

For example the madden series, Why take away madden cards and historical teams it make no sense, some of us love playing with these teams.

Another game is SUper Smash brothers For the Wii, Why take away characters like Roy and Mew Two and add Lucario and Ike, just leave them all in. Put all the old stages in it would make more sense.

What I am reading about Mario Kart as I wait to go play it why add just a few tracks to the game instead of adding every track the game has ever had, why add new characters but take old ones away? I just never understood that aspect of a game, why have battle mode be team based only? that makes no sense whatsoever. I understand updating games and releasing things that are new but why mess with classic things, now if they would have made battle mode in this game team or solo I dont think anyone would complain. Sometimes they mess too much with a classic and turn it into a complete misfire, Ill use Mario Kart 64 vs. Mario Kart Double Dash as an example, Double Dash had many great features but the battle mode stages were lame, would it have hurt that much to put in the old stages? How much more memory would it have taken to throw 4 more stages in there so that block fort could be played on the new updated game which was extremely fun otherwise. For as many Mario Kart games as there have been why not put all the rainbow road boards in or All the Bowser Castles stages?

I know that these last two are not 360 games but these are two that I have been slightly dissapointed in. (Although I havent played Mario Kart Wii yet from what I am reading it seems to be coming up a little short.)

Some of these developers are super lame when it comes to this stuff, Why not have all the Halo Battle Stages in Halo Multiplayer? Have two different ways to join the game, either have a stage direct type of play where you just pick the stage and wait for others, or have a straight vote where the most votes win and a tie goes to the host. It would make much more sense like that. Instead of vetoing a board for a different random level to come up.

Beautiful Katamari. Was really looking forward to it, but didn't expect there'd only be a dozen stages, most of which have a 5 minute time limit, and only a handful have any real objectives. Complete and utter let-down compared to 'We Love...'

What really pissed me off is how much the DLC costs: 1500MP for 7 extra stages, when the game itself only lasts about 2 hours? Lazy, money-grubbing waste of a great franchise.

Dead rising was the reason I bought a 360. I still don't know why I can't play it for more than 10 minutes. I thought I was alone but there are others that share my feelings.

I completely agree. I can't play Dead Rising for long at all. I want to get the achievements but the gameplay is awful. Recent games were R6V2 (multiplayer was garbage), Kane & Lynch could have been have been better.

I expect the Army Of Two story to be longer, I finished it and was like "Is that it?...".

Yea, Army of Two was rediculously short. My brother convinced me to buy it and so I did. We had just finished level 3 and he told me we were half way through becuase he'd played it already and knew. I was like WTF? That pissed me off.
