What games have you guys played that you ended up falling in love with, but before playing the game you thought it would suck?

Mine would have to be Rainbow Six. I played Ghost Recon and i thought the game wasn't all that great so that steered me clear from Rainbow Six. However, i accidentally placed rainbow six on the top of my GameQ on gamefly and they ended up sending that game to me. I thought i would hate the hours i would put into it, but as soon as the game started....i fell deeply in love with the gameplay :)

Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, Oblivion, Battlestations: Midway, Forza 2. That's a few i can think of right now. the 360 really reinvented the way i view games, it opened my eyes to genres i used to stay away from in the past.

Surprisingly, I enjoyed Lost; Via Domus. I never followed the show and thought it would be a stupid game as well, that would feel like a chore, but instead I enjoyed the 4-6 hours.

Kane and Lynch. It got really bad reviews...one of my favorites now. Incredible game and fun as hell.

I guess the closest I could come to that recently would also be Rainbow 6. I didn;t know if it was my type of shooter or not, so I bummed it off my bro, and quickly fell in love with the series. I'm now pretty decent at Vegas 2.

Crackdown... I was damn sure it was going to be a third-rate GTA, but when i borrowed my friend's copy, i loved it. i went out and bought my own copy the next day.

id have to say the kareoke revolution. even though i have this thing about singing publicly. i enjoyed this though and it is a sleeper hit i think. i wish rockbandhad as much dlc as this game. every other week you get 15 or so more compared to rockbands paltry 3.

I have an opposite: Game that sucked that I thought I would love. Phantasy Star Universe. The online demo was really fun, but the actually on-disc single player game was terrible. I couldn't even play through the first levels, I got so bored.

Awesome thread.

For me I thought N3: Ninety-Nine Nights would blow... but its literally one of my fav 360 games... its so lame and quirky with the cut-scenes and dialogue that its funny. And the gameplay, I just love massive attacks that kill hundreds of troops with just a few swings. I love the game far more than Dynasty Warriors, which I think has failed itself miserably.

Another game I thought would suck was Kameo! I saw it sitting there for 9 dollars brand new, I thought "well at least the achievements might be easy, as its a launch title". After an hour of playing, I was blown away by how good the game looked, how the framerate never dropped, and how cute and fun the platformer was. Also, all the DLC for the game was staggering, loads of costumes, and added co-op. I am praying for a sequel at this point.

I'm going with Earth Defence Force 2017. It sounds like it should be awesome (shooting wave upon wave of giant alien bugs!!), but it's so unknown you'd expect it to be one where it's a great idea badly executed. But no, it's great fun!

I'm also gonna say Kane & Lynch, as everyone slated that but I actually really enjoyed it.

Oh and I didn't expect much from the Godfather either but was pleasantly surprised. Still full of glitches though - damn you EA!

I would say Kane and Lynch. Reviews were pretty poor but i really enjoyed the Story and the different but surprisingly fun multiplayer. (Although i suck at Fragile Alliance :D)

I'd say Marvel Ultimate Alliance. I didn't think it was going to suck, however, I didn't think it was going to be amazing either so I rented it from Gamefly. Marvel has become one of my favorite 360 games. It's really fun to play on multiplayer as well.

I didn't think that Rainbow Six Vegas 2 was going to be that good, but I was wrong. I love that game. I like the graphics and the multiplayer can entertain me for hours straight.

I have to go with Oblivion, I love RPGs but I had tried it on the PC just got out the caves and just go so damn bored of it that I just gave up with it!

Friend lent me his copy on 360 since I thought what the hell achievements seem easy enough and now I quite enjoy it :) don't love it though.

Saints Row - I was like "stupid GTA wannabe", now I've grown to love it. I'd say I like it MORE than GTA :).

Why would anyone buy or rent a game if they thought it would suck.

Definitely Viva Pinata. I laughed at my bro's little friend for buying it, but once I played it I liked it a lot.

I ended up liking Vampire Rain

Me too. :) I liked how strict it was - one slip-up and you get absolutely mauled. It felt so good when you finally got hold of a useful gun.

I'd have to say Iron Man. Judging by the reviews, I expected it to be worse than Superman Returns, but I really enjoyed it. It deserves praise too for not having any items to collect (a real rarity these days) and no pointless online mode that'd be dead within a week of its release.

Viva Pinata: Party Animals

I thought it was going to be really stupid and i only bought it because it was $20 brand new and it looked and sounded like an easy 1000. After playing it for 30 minutes i actually enjoyed playing it.

I hope they come out with another one!

I thought the same thing.
My best friend had gotten it for Christmas and kept bugging me to get it so we could play online together... eventually I cracked but worried I was wasting my money. And then I got the "play for 5 hours" achievement right away.... Turned out to be pretty shallow but a lot of fun. If you've got other people playing with you, it really makes Challenge events and races more exciting.
I got 1000 in this over the course of about 2 days but still will play it with my sisters. Last night I was helping someone else get achievements in it online for like 3 hours straight.... there's just some catchy and silly about a kid's game like that that doesn't take itself seriously.

Crackdown

I underestimated the game because of its cel-shaded graphics but after I watched my brother play it, I started to love the game.

Lost Odyssey and Crackdown. I bought LO because I was bored and just wanted an RPG to play and until I played it I thought I had left JRPG's behind. I obvioulsly bought Crackdown for the beta and it ended up being one of my favorite games.
