25. Mario Paint (Nintendo/SNES)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Mario-Paint.jpg

A painting simulator on a top 25 list might seem odd, but we picked Mario Paint for a reason. Not only can you utilize a special SNES mouse controller to create art, but you can also partake in one of the greatest fly-swatting minigames ever created. Really, it's a deeper experience than you might expect from a painting game, as only Nintendo can deliver. We need a Wii version.

24. Wii Sports (Nintendo/Nintendo Wii)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Wii-Sports.jpg

Wii Sports made the list for a few reasons. First, it comes with every Wii console. Second, it's fun, whether you go toe-to-toe with someone in a boxing or bowling game. (It also includes golf, tennis and baseball.) Lastly, it lets you play as your Miis to give it a personality quirk. Hey, Nintendo, a sequel would be nice.

Read our Wii Sports review here. (http://www.gamedaily.com/games/wii-sports/wii/game-main/list/)

23. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Sega/Sega Genesis)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Sonic-the-Hedgehog-2.jpg

The original introduced us to a certain blue hedgehog, but Sonic the Hedgehog 2 gave us even more to love. Better level design, two player interactivity, enhanced presentation and a slew of new Dr. Robotnik-fueled bosses await as you guide Sonic and his newfound friend Tails through enemy-bopping and ring-collecting stages. If you can't find the original Genesis version, the downloadable Xbox Live Arcade and Virtual Console editions fit the bill for a meager $5.

22. Starcraft (Blizzard/PC)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Starcraft.jpg

Blizzard created a phenomenon still unmatched with Starcraft, a real-time strategy (RTS) game with three separate species (the Terrans, the Zerg and the Protoss) fighting for intergalactic supremacy. It raised the bar on RTS games with deep gameplay (involving countless tools and armies) and its highly addictive Battle.net-supported multiplayer action. It makes us that much hungrier for the StarCraft II (http://www.gamedaily.com/games/starcraft-ii/pc/game-main/list/6202/0/) sequel.

Read our StarCraft II preview. (http://www.gamedaily.com/games/starcraft-ii/pc/game-main/list/%22)

21. Super Mario Kart (Nintendo/SNES)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Super-Mario-Kart.jpg

We love Mario Kart Wii (http://www.gamedaily.com/games/mario-kart-wii/wii/game-main/list/), but there's nothing like the original Mario Kart, with its timeless charm, great racing controls and true-to-the-SNES visual presentation. If you haven't played this classic kart racer yet, take the time now to launch a few turtle shells with it. In fact, bring a friend it's even more fun with them racing against you.

20. Gunstar Heroes (Sega/Genesis)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Gunstar-Heroes.jpg

Gunstar Heroes remains one of the best action games. It's an over-the-top shoot-em-up action game with various power-ups, excessively cool levels (at one point you ride in a mine shift on a high-speed cart), ridiculously over-the-top bosses (just try to outlast all seven forms of Seven Force) and cooperative gameplay. Check this blast-a-thon out on Virtual Console now for a meager 800 points.

19. Day of the Tentacle (LucasArts/PC)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Day-of-the-Tentacle.jpg

Bernard, Laverne and Hoagie didn't make for the video game heroes players we're accustomed to, but that's what made Day of the Tentacle such a memorable adventure game. Tasked with saving the future of the planet from falling to a race of mutant tentacles, the geeky trio traveled through time, space and the darkest reaches of the Edison family's eclectic mansion to free the world of tentacle oppression. Hilarious dialogue, a distinct art style and truly bizarre situations and settings make Day of the Tentacle a timeless classic.

18. Burnout 3: Takedown (Electronic Arts/Xbox and PlayStation 2)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Burnout-3.jpg

Burnout 3: Takedown only has one rule smash everything. This fast-paced driving game is intense and satisfying, allowing you to plow someone into a wall or passing traffic (or any other given obstacle) while barely losing any speed (unless, of course, you hit the wall head-on). Crash mode is also worth noting, where you intentionally drive into traffic to cause the most damage. Without it, the racing genre simply wouldn't be the same.

Read our Burnout 3: Takedown review here. (http://www.gamedaily.com/games/burnout-3-takedown/xbox/game-main/list/)

17. Resident Evil 4 (Capcom/GameCube, Wii, PlayStation 2)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Resident-Evil-4.jpg

The original Resident Evil is still incredible, but it can't compare to the sheer brilliance of the action-packed part four. This time around, Leon Kennedy finds himself shooting angry jibberish-speaking freaks, a chainsaw-wielding maniac and plenty of other unspeakable creatures while trying to save the President's daughter from danger. The PS2 and Wii versions of RE 4 also have a separate adventure featuring the sexy Ada Wong and her hefty arsenal of weapons.

Read our Resident Evil 4 review here. (http://www.gamedaily.com/games/resident-evil-4/wii/game-main/list/)

16. God of War (SCEA/PlayStation 2)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_God-of-War.jpg

Kratos is the man. God of War's muscular Adonis displays sheer, uncensored action as he tears apart minions, serpents and other demons with ease, either with his bare hands or his mighty chain-blades. It's unbelievably beautiful visuals bring out the best in the PS2. Finally, it has an interesting sex minigame. Sure, you can't see it, but you can feel it. Isn't that what's really important? We think so.

Read our God of War review here. (http://www.gamedaily.com/games/god-of-war/playstation-2/game-main/list/)

15. Super Mario 64 (Nintendo/Nintendo 64)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Super-Mario-64.jpg

Mario games were doing just fine in 2-D, but Super Mario 64 took a bold leap forward with 3-D. The result is terrific, whether you're flying through the air, swimming underwater or pounding Goombas by jumping on or punching them. The graphics and music are good (for an N64 debut), and the inclusion of Metal Mario is sheer genius, letting you walk on ocean floors and gather otherwise inaccessible items. Check out Mario 64 for yourself on the Virtual Console service. It's only $10.

14. Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo (Capcom/various platforms)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Super-Puzzle-Fighter.jpg

No one can deny the power of super-deformed Street Fighter characters hypothetically duking it out. In this puzzler, you set up gems and counter-gems, to the point that they explode in glass-shattering glory, leaving your opponent open for a powerful counter-attack. The HD Remix version for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network adds the game's most sought after feature -- online play.

Read our Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix review here. (http://www.gamedaily.com/games/super-puzzle-fighter-ii-turbo-hd-remix/xbox-360/game-main/list/)

13. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Nintendo/Nintendo Wii)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Super-Smash-Bros-Brawl.jpg

We hold Brawl in the highest regard. It has a number of additions, including some beautiful stages, fun new characters (who doesn't love knocking people around with Solid Snake?), and most importantly, online play that is fun three months later. If you haven't gotten in on this instantly accessible fighting game yet (you don't even need to be a fan of the genre to truly enjoy it), now's the time.

Read our Super Smash Bros. Brawl review here. (http://www.gamedaily.com/games/super-smash-bros-brawl/wii/game-main/list/)

12. Grand Theft Auto IV (Rockstar Games/Xbox 360, PlayStation 3)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Grand-Theft-Auto-IV.jpg

"I'm the one who survived!" With that, Grand Theft Auto IV protagonist Niko Bellic shows us why his game is the best GTA yet. With a huge world to explore (wait till you unlock the new islands), hundreds of non-violent activities to do around Liberty City (buying clothes, drinking, dating and the horizontal mumbo), great gun-toting gameplay (for those who can handle its escalation of violence) and of course, following your fate any which way it takes you.

11. World of Warcraft (Blizzard/PC)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_World-of-Warcraft.jpg

For such nerdy subject matter, World of Warcraft has reeled in and addicted both hardcore gamers and casual players alike. Presenting an enormous and epic world to explore within a framework where you communicate with other players, a session of World of Warcraft serves more as a social outing than a solo gaming session. The game's true display of popularity and broad appeal is in it serving as star to one of South Park's most memorable recent episodes, "Make Love, Not Warcraft."

Read our World of Warcraft review here. (http://www.gamedaily.com/games/world-of-warcraft/pc/game-main/list/)

10. Ms. Pac-Man (Namco/various platforms)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Ms-Pac-Man.jpg

Ms. Pac-Man did more than merely add curtains to the classic known as Pac-Man. This lipstick-wearing sequel introduced speedier gameplay, intricate new maze designs, moving fruit (it no longer sits in the middle of the stage) and cinemas that tell the whole love story of Ms. and Mr. from start to finish. You can find the classy Ms. Pac-Man on Xbox Live Arcade.

9. Chrono Trigger (Square Enix/SNES)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Chrono-Trigger.jpg

Chrono Trigger stands as one of the best RPG's ever made, thanks to memorable characters like a frog in a knight costume, deep and involving gameplay that even non-RPG fans could enjoy, and a superb storyline that takes you to the end of time. If you can't find the super-rare SNES version, it's included in Final Fantasy Chronicles for the PS1.

8. Rock Band (Electronic Arts/various platforms)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Rock-Band.jpg

Rock on, world. Harmonix takes the formula that drove its Guitar Hero series and turns it into a true party experience as players take up the drums and a microphone. With the fleet of new downloadable songs coming every week (this week's update provided new tracks by Disturbed and Jimmy Buffett), the party will never stop. Even if you're not normally musically inclined (or you've never touched a microphone in your life), you owe it to yourself to do a little Rocking.

Read our Rock Band review here. (http://www.gamedaily.com/games/rock-band/xbox-360/game-main/list/)

7. Street Fighter II: The World Warrior (Capcom/arcade)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Street-Fighter-II.jpg

"Hadouken!" In 1991, the fighting genre as we know it was born, and Street Fighter II paved the way to its greatness. This classic fighting game holds up significantly over time, even with its countless sequels and spin-offs. The six-button gameplay is dynamic (special moves and combo possibilities galore), the character selection is vast (from sumo wrestlers to weird electrical Brazilian freaks) and the two-player combat is undeniably fun, even if you're on the losing end of the stick. Get it on Xbox Live arcade now, or wait for the forthcoming Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, due later this summer. "Shoryuken!"

6. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision/Xbox 360, PlayStation 3)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_COD-4.jpg

There is simply only one better first-person shooter on the market today (see our number 3 choice) than the incredible Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. This game not only goes for the gut with its true-to-war-experience performance (it is unbelievably intense at times you really feel at times that the enemy is closing in on you) and superb shoot-em-up gameplay. Where else can you experience a nuclear explosion, only to watch your character collapse and die from it? The multiplayer component is worthwhile as well, with an endless ranking system, various weapons and endless competition.

Read our Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare review. (http://www.gamedaily.com/games/call-of-duty-4-modern-warfare/xbox-360/game-main/list/)

5. Tetris (various/various)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Tetris.jpg

In what is undoubtedly the most beloved Russian import since Yakov Smirnoff (and, yes, we're kidding), Alexei Pajitnov's Tetris stands as the best puzzle game ever made. How undeniably cool is it to put together lines of four using variously shaped pieces, while avoiding the pratfalls of leaving gaps that could lead to shapes stacking to the top of the screen and ending your game? If we had to pick a favorite version, we'd go with Atari's arcade game because two-player Tetris never gets old.

4. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Konami/various platforms)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Symphony-of-the-Night.jpg

The Castlevania series was doing just fine with its usual platforming/whipping antics. Then Koji Igarashi and company created something strikingly bold with Symphony of the Night. The Metroid-ish set-up offers a new exploration feature that makes the action more dramatic (you have to carefully balance health and items this time around), as are both the game's visuals and music. If you can't track down the rare PlayStation version, not to worry the game's available for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.

3. Half-Life 2 (Sierra/PC)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Half-Life-2.jpg

Scientist-turned-savior Gordon Freeman's battle against aliens from another universe continues in Half-Life 2, the much-anticipated sequel to the original. The game comes alive through a gripping story and memorable characters including the super cute Alyx Vance and was bolstered by the inclusion of a detailed physics system (and the sadistically addictive gravity gun) that provides for some of the game's more memorable action sequences. Re-released along with its episodic sequels as part of The Orange Box for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, Half-Life 2 is an unquestionable must-play.

Read our Half-Life 2 review. (http://www.gamedaily.com/games/half-life-2/pc/game-main/list/)

2. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Nintendo/Nintendo 64)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Legend-of-Zelda.jpg

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time took the classic adventure series into an immersive new arena when it made the jump to 3-D. Combat and dungeon exploration took on an entirely new meaning when experienced in a world that felt as if it was living and breathing around you. The hero Link also found a new means of transportation -- the horse Epona -- that opened up the game with a believable sense of freedom. Combined with a memorable soundtrack and some truly epic boss battles, the Legend of Zelda series couldn't have asked for a better facelift.

1. Super Mario Bros. 3 (Nintendo/NES)

http://o.aolcdn.com/gd-media/galleries/411/a_Super-Mario-3.jpg

Super Mario has done a lot for this industry. He's invented the platforming genre as we know it, he's gone racing, he's become a doctor, he's engaged in RPG adventures really, his list of accomplishments is something. Nothing, however, compares to the utter greatness of Super Mario Bros. 3. It's everything a sequel should be, with secrets to find, new outfits (and abilities) to use, better graphics, great music and the same wondrous gameplay that took us into the majesty of Mario to begin with, whether it's flying through the air with a raccoon tail or bopping enemies on the head, old-school style. It's available via Virtual Console now at a very affordable 500 points, and if you don't own it (or the cartridge, for that matter), you're insane. This is the best game ever made.

Robert Workman

I can't disagree with this list ^^

Maybe just that I feel Starcraft and Day of the Tentacle should be a bit higher.

I've played all of these and I love them all ^^

I'm sure I can think of other games that deserve to be on this list but all of the ones mentioned above seem to deserve their place.

Too many Mario games, they're not all that great. And personally I think Call of Duty 4 should be #1. That is the best game ever made imo.

I disagree with alot of those. But GTA IV, COD4, Orange Box, and Tetris earned their spots on that list. I was surprised to see Rock Band on there and not see Halo 3.

It's hard to take this list seriously, with Wii Sports on it.

I agree with a few of the games, but really, they excluded a lot of the games, like FFVII and Halo, weren't even mentioned.

No Gears of War?

One of the best 3rd Person Shooters EVER is not on the list...

Bullshit.

Okay, seriously...MARIO PAINT?

I remember the hype behind that game and asking my parents for it for Christmas. I also remember the exuberance I felt when I opened it Christmas morning, eagerly popped the cartridge in and plugged in the mouse, and played with it for all of about 20 minutes before I was bored. That game wouldn't even make my list of top 25 games with the name "Mario" in the title.

Most of the list isn't too bad other than that, though I think it falls into the all too common "top XX list" trap of including too many recently released games. Putting COD 4 in there might seem like a great idea now, but if COD 5 blows it away and COD 6 blows it away, your top 25 games of all time list is gonna look pretty stupid here in a few years.

Wasn't expecting Halo 3 to be on there, definitely Halo 1, and possibly Halo 2 though. I think Diablo II should've been on there though. Other than that, and Mario Paint lol, everything has earned its respective place.

I was seriously expecting Jezzball and Chip's Challenge on this list. :(

I agree completely with Super Mario 64 and HL2, but a lot of these are too recent to be ranked so highly.

Also WTF! WHERE IS DOOM! :(

There's a few here that I agree with, and a few that I don't. Like any list of "best" games they have to take all factors into account which I think they missed with a few games. And how on earth is Bioshock not in there, that is one of the single greatest games on the 360!!

Definitely agree with CV:SOTN being so high, played that on the PSX and it was definitely awesome. Not to mention my collectors edition fetching 120 when I only paid 3 for it...

I disagree with alot of those. But GTA IV, COD4, Orange Box, and Tetris earned their spots on that list. I was surprised to see Rock Band on there and not see Halo 3.

I disagree with you about Halo 3, taking all things into account, without forge to enhance multiplayer that game would have sucked. And no game can be considered great if it has a penultimate level like the "Cortana" mission, that was just horrible.

Yeah it really was a bit Bias towards mario. Also what the hell were Rock Band, Wii Sports and Burnout doing in that list?!

Subsitute those for something like Warcraft 3, Medieval 2: Total War, Neverwinter Nights or Psychonauts. Diablo should of made an apperance aswell imo.

Good list though, although they forgot Goldeneye 64, which seems like the biggest gaping addition from the list.

LOL @ phail list

Well, the top 2 spots were correct in my opinion, but everything else either has no place on this list or is way too high or way too low. Wii Sports? What the hell? It was nice to play for, like, one hour, and served as a great kind of tech demo for the Wii, but that wouldn't even make my list of top 100 games... or come anywhere near it, for that matter.

Tussell
06-14-2008, 08:36 PM
I totally agree with #1. Glad to see there was no Halo... Unless I passed it up. I liked seeing Half Life, Mario 64, and The Legend of Zelda: OOT. Decent list, but mine would have been a lot different. First of all, Mario Paint and Rock Band would NOT be in it.

CoachCO62
06-14-2008, 08:43 PM
I cant say that I have played all of these games but the people who made this list are wrong on alot of fronts. Firstly Legend of Zelda for Super Nintendo should be in anyones top five, Madden footbal although its a yearly release should been the only game that cracks the top 5 as a multiyear release, Any list that does not include Goldeneye and at least one metroid game and one final fantasy game is nuts as well (Should almost always be 7 depending on your opinion). I cant take many of these lists seriously as most people who make them have no clue how great classic games are.

Although I will say of the new games that came out as someone who was never a big fan of the GTA series I will admit GTA IV is one hell of a game and it is very addicting, it is one game I can see myself playing again after beating it which is something I havent been able to say in a long time.

There should not games on that list that haven't been out 5 years, in 5 years time I can garrentee that GTA IV will be replaced with a new GTA, COD 4 won't even be close and Rock Band don't make me laugh

All in all an awful list imo only good thing they did was have Half Life 2 on that list as many other best ever lists would skip over it, but tbh Half Life 1 should be on as well or even instead of

Get rid of the Mario shit. Mario is fun yeah, but it gets boring FAST.

CoD4 doesn't seem like it should be #6 to me. I think it should be somewhere between 15 and 20. CoD4 is a great game, but I hate it for the fact that there is WAY too much aim assist. Makes everyone good at the game.

Ahhhh Super Mario Bros.3 is the best game ever. No doubt about it. Me and my friends lost so many damn hours to that game. I think thats what games lack nowadays, too many actions and commands when all you need is jump and run buttons. :D

Why in the bluest of blue hells is Call Of Duty 4 in the top 10? Its good, but its not that good. I can name about 50 games I've played that are better then that game.

Also, where is Metal Gear Solid?? My favourite PS1 game isn't even on this list? This list sucks, but at the same time its opinion and my list would be so different.

Let me guess... You'd put a Halo as the top game? Or some shitty sports game that comes out every year. :p

No, I don't think Halo would even be found on the list if I created it. If it was specifically Xbox/Xbox 360 games then I'd give Halo a spot, but I wouldn't say it's good enough for the top 25 of all time. As for sports games, there would probably be at least one from a series which releases games annually.

Tenacious
06-15-2008, 05:42 PM
Rock Band at #8 :\

It wasn't good enough to get #8, but it was pretty good imo

Also, Wii Sports at #24? I know it's at a lowly place, but seriously?

I agree with most of the rest of the list, but I feel it's impossible to compile a list of the top 25 video games EVER, because you're sure to forget tons of classics. Where is Halo, Metal Gear Solid, even Goldeneye?

Although, to give this list some credit, Burnout 3: Takedown was the highpoint of the Burnout series and my favorite racing game ever. I loved that game, and I bought it from Xbox Originals ;D

Ha ha ha, whoever drew up this list must have been smoking something bad at the time as it is far and away the most disagreeable list I've ever seen.

Mario Paint was panned even when it was released, the most biased Nintendo mags (i.e: all of them) said it was terrible and it got scores of about 50-60% at best. In fact all Mario games are hideously overrated in my opinion simply because they are far too easy and short, even including the secrets they put in there.

You can knock Halo a lot but it almost single handedly kept the Xbox going back in the day and introduced a lot of mechanics that are now staples in FPS games.

Wii Sports is a novelty title at best and has all the lasting appeal of a bloody 'game and watch'. It shows how the console works and nothing more.

As for Ms Pac-man..............You seriously expect me to believe that if people could ONLY ever play 25 games for the rest of their days ANYONE would pick that? BS.

Rock Band shouldn't be up there either and I always preferred the SNES Zelda to the overblown and cliched N64 version (which basically was just all the previous Zelda games tossed together in 3D).

This list makes me sad.

Who made this list, a retard on Ritalin?

Where's Halo (1,2 or 3), FF7, Gears of War?

And how did 5 Mario game make the list?
Why Ms. Pac Man, over Pac-Man?
Why Super Puzzle Fighter? wtf.

Okay I can understand why some games are on the list but I'm missing so many other great games that are better than Wii Sports. Where the hell is Metal Gear Solid?

Rock Band is a great game but the game comes nowhere close to the " 25 best games of all time". Zelda should be Link to the Past and what the hell, Puzzle Fighter? I'm not even going to bash Mario Paint. I've played all these games but I can easily make up a better list than that.

You can knock Halo a lot but it almost single handedly kept the Xbox going back in the day and introduced a lot of mechanics that are now staples in FPS games.

Thats why I knock Halo alot, the mechanics it introduced were all shit, annoying and totally killed alot of FPS games because all the developers started thinking "Hmm lets be like Halo because it sells well"

Makes me wish alot more developers would rip off valve or something, that would at least be interesting.

Halo?
Bioshock?

Some emotional stuff right there.

Gears of War maybe could of got 25-20 as it wasn't amazing but it had gritt, something that games were afraid to say.

GTA IV? I think San Andreas or even 3 should of made it, as there was 2 Super Mario games (or more i didn't look well enough) as they showed the world what it was like. With out them what would of happened to the other games, i mean, who goes into a shop and doesn't point at a GTA game and show there opinion of how they ran over a random ped.

And why no Pokemon? Seriously, POKEMON the thing that we all remember from our childhood, and yet it's not on there, come on, at least make the list seem reasonable. I'm sure we can all recollect a time where we started off with a Pokemon like Charmander and battled people.

What about Doom? The classic that we all loved playing when we were young.

Not one single halo game? Fucking gay. Halo1 basically marked the era of nex-gen games. Everyone knows that. Hating on Halo is becoming a fucking fad.

Halo is like the indie band that everyone liked before they got big, but as soon as they gained popularity it became cool to not like them anymore.

I'm sorry but no halo on this list = epic fail.

If you're gonna sit there and tell me that PUZZLE FIGHTER deserved a spot more than halo you are just retarded

O yeah and Tussell, just because you suck balls at Halo doesn't mean you get to make fun of other people for wanting it on the list. noob :)

Dude, a top 25 games of all time list doesn't mean forever. It is made to represent the top 25 games at that point in time. The way you said it makes it sound like they should predict better games and have them already on the list so they don't look dumb in the future, but nobody can do that and it would be retarded if someone tried.

Why Super Puzzle Fighter? wtf.

Exactly my thoughts.

I would happily put The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask at my number one spot.
Reasons being...

It took a turn away from the "beat three dungeons, grow/change story direction, beat 4-6 more dungeons, kill ganondork"
They had a totally different story. You could play as a zora, deku, or goron.
I could go into detail but I'm wasting time.
Most people will argue against me. Stupid saving and 72 hour in-game time limit. Well I didn't totally agree with the saving but the time limit gave you a little over an hour to get in a dungeon, beat it, get out. I also enjoyed the story :p

But nonetheless I disagreed with this list in a lot of places. Although I, unlike a few people here, enjoyed mario paint ;)

Am I the only one that noticed that Donkey Kong is not on there? The game has a freaking movie based solely around the people that play it to get a top score in the Guinness Book of World Records! Also some of those games were a little on the crap side. I'll agree when it got closer to the top of the list, but the bottom of the barrel, Mario Paint?? Come on! There are numerous games out there with better dynamics than that including but not limited to, Halo, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Metroid (how dare he not even mention Samus), Gears of War, KOTOR, and the list goes on.

I must add this though, I do like that he dug deep for some of the titles. And to those wondering why Mario is up there a bit, well Nintendo is the last standing fighter (and the one kicking ass atm) of the early 80s console wars. There were a lot of great games from that time, mainly based on the fact that they had to be good. The video game industry was nearly completely dead before the Nintendo helped lead the fight back to the popular thing it is today. If the games sucked, who knows where we would be right now. I'm highly doubting someone else besides the plumber would have paved the way to so many advances.

And before I'm bashed for being on the side of the big N, I'm just a gamer, and where the games are, I'll go...except that piece of garbage released by Sony...:D

I feel like Golden Eye should be on that list along with Doom and, potentially, Marathon. For the way that they defined the FPS genre. From a personal standpoint, I'd have to include Diablo II as well. I can't even begin to imagine how many hours I poured into that game.

That list is horrible. I was unaware that Mario Paint was better than Mortal Kombat, Grand Turismo, or about 40 other games.

haha, thats what i was thinking too. but, i've played about half the games on the list, and can't disagree with those.
i was very surprised to not see Final Fantasy X or VII, Donkey Kong Country, Goldeneye 007, and Halo. I think all of those games should have been on that list somewhere.
And with all those Mario games, they don't even have Mario Party 2?!?
wtf is this!

Well like most I disagree with a fair few in that, placements mainly. Metal Gear Solid should have been in there, Halo 1. Wii sports was entertaining but you can't claim that just 'cause it came with the console means it's one of the 25 best games. Also space invaders anyone?

I agree w/ alot of that list. Wii Sports i can see because EVERYONE can play it, even paralyzed (as in waist-down, not neck down)

But, i'm suprised they didnt think of Halo3, even for #25. oh well.

most of those games (including #1) earned those spots

I hate criticising lists, because they're someone's opinion and I'm bound to disagree somewhere, but come on...

The fact that it began with Mario Paint said two things: 1) the list would be overpopulated with Mario titles, and 2) the list would be rubbish.

Both turned out to be true.

It's hard to take this list seriously, with Wii Sports on it.

I agree with a few of the games, but really, they excluded a lot of the games, like FFVII and Halo, weren't even mentioned.

Not only can they play other games, but most other games should be easier for them. Using the Wiimote requires more movement than a regular controller or mouse+keyboard, so what exactly are you talking about ZombieTaco?
