Thanks Rock Band 2, for placing achievements I'll never get. :(

Gold Star, ha I can barely get Three stars on expert.

Though it could be worse, gold star every song for like 5G.

Remember DLC is compatible. Silver on Expert Drums is VERY easy to Gold star.

Actually looks like a good mix to me. Plenty of easy ones, lots of medium ones, and several that will tax average players beyond limits.

An improvement in the achievements department for sure, with more difficult ones, "quirky ones", and some that encourage doing everything (Need More Umlauts!, etc.). Rock Band 2 is gonna to be teh shiznit (did I just say that? Hell yes I did!).

Oh, but playing that song feels like cheating. :(

Yes, that one intrigued me as well, I think I heard on a preview somewhere that the GameSpot preview that had a trippy background was a music video or something... not sure though. I'm also wondering what the "Impossible Challenge", since I'm pretty sure Dan Teasdale of Harmonix confirmed there was already an Endless Setlist 2'

I'm interested in the making a music video, that should be fun. I did see a RB2 video at E3. It was reg gameplay but it wasn't you're band playing on stage, it was them but they were playing on this trippy background with all these cool effects, that could be it, but who knows. Still secret achievements to consider...
And I didn't think of playing Silver or another easy song to gold star a song from Rock Band 1.

I really like the pics for the achievements and that they kept some of the same names.

I see most of the references, like the Michael Jackson - Beat it one, and the Video killed the radio star one, didn't catch a Bill and Ted reference. Haven't seen it in a long time.

San Dimas? Most non-heinous.

San Dimas was their high school. Their band, Wyld Stallyns was in the battle of the bands.

I liked the clever Bachman-Turner award one hehe

hmmm.... I think most of them are pretty good...

- I am very interested to see this music video feature...
- I think the challenge achievements will be refreshing...
- while some of the challenges and drum trainer achievements may be challenging, none of them seem impossible like Guitar Hero
- I like some of the creative ones like keeping overdrive for 90 seconds or buying 100,000 worth of clothes.
- And only two online achievements rocks.... especially since they don't seem hard or time consuming. (I'm not a big fan of competitive online music-game gameplay.

However....

I don't like how easy the Band World Tour achievements seem to be so far... part of the reason it meant so much to have a high achievement score in Rock Band 1 was because it took time and dedication.

That being said....those hidden BWT achievements have some hefty scores attached to them ....so they could make up for the seemingly easy ones...

But I actually find it refreshing how there isn't an achievement for completing drums expert-hard-medium, guitar expert-hard medium and so forth.

That got me thinking...perhaps some of the secret achievements "regarding progression" are something like beat all 4 instruments on each difficulty level...I know they've eliminated the solo tour, but that type of info will still be tracked somehow.

Overall, I really like most of the list. The BTO and San Dimas ones are great, and I'm personally really looking forward to the challenge savant one...should be challenging for me, but not impossible.

And I'm guessing the Impossible challenges are something like beat every song in the "impossible" tier for each instrument...BWT had a set list of each of those for each instrument plus one for band. After all, the names of those achievements are the same as the ones for beating each instrument on expert were in RB1.

Worried about difficulty or quality? I hope there's an uberhard one thrown into the mix to separate the men from the boys. That way, people still get props for a 950, but the ones who 1000's are incredibly awesome ;)

Well I'm not going for something like that or gold starring Dream Theater in full band, just something a bit more difficult than the other achievements.

Personally I don't think it need to be uber difficult to make it so that people don't all have 1000... I liked Rock Band because it took a long time to get the full 1000 and that made it mean something....so perhaps t would be nice if it was like that for Rock Band 2.

I noticed this tactic as well. I feel it is quite underhanded actually. I dislike achievements that require circumstances outside of simply playing the game.

You can't BTW.

They sell the drum set by itself.

But I do agree with your basic point. Complaining about having to use the RB guitar for 1 achievement is just like complaining that you have to own the drums to get the drum achievements. If anything, find a friend who has the RB guitar and just borrow it from him/her. That's what I'm gonna have to do.

I believe I oversimplified my point. I would argue that drums are a prequisite to playing the game. As is needing a guitar controller and a USB microphone. However, now they are requiring you to use a specific type of controller that is not an original prerequisite to "playing the game." That is what I dislike. Especially considering that the Rock Band 1 controller (many would argue, myself included) is inferior to the Guitar Hero controller.

I suppose I should count my blessings though, as the game isn't specific enough to require the Rock Band controller as a prequisite to "simply playing the game."

You have to have their drumset to get the drum achieves in RB1 or even play the drum portion at all, this is no different.

That's not the point I'm trying to make.

Take this analogy:

Say a game requires you to use a certain version of the xbox 360 controller in order to unlock an acheivement. How would you feel about having to go out and buy/borrow that version of the controller for the sake of the acheievement?

Jeez, in RB they have an achievement (100% Bass Upstrum) that people complained only unlocks when using the regular buttons (because they got used to using the special solo buttons) ... and now in RB2 there will be an achievement that lets you take advantage of the special solo buttons and people still complain. They can't win for losing.

In vocal solo tour, when you deploy overdrive, but you're not singing, overdrive it still on, but not draining. Same as when you use overdrive but you're not playing in a tug of war match. Will this count towards 90 seconds, or does deployed mean your overdrive is draining?

I would find it to be extremely unnecessary, because it's only an achievement, not actual gameplay. It only prevents you from receiving a reward in the game, rather than preventing you from actually playing the game itself. I would only find it troublesome if a game prevented me from being able to play because I didn't have a specific brand of controller/guitar/drumset rather than any available.

Besides, Rock Band is practially famous for the innovative fret buttons lower on the guitar neck, and how realistic it is to play a hammer-on only guitar solo. I'm really surprised that it took them until Rock Band 2 to make an achievement relating to them.

But, I wouldn't be surprised if you can get the achievement using the GH:WT guitar with the touch-sensative area, which similar to the lower frets.

Who knows? But why worry about this achievement, someone will find an easy path and there will be a vid showing exactly how to do it and then everyone will have it.

The way I see it is that Harmonix should be allowed to make an achievement that requires THEIR guitar because its THEIR game. They shouldn't be limited because people decided to use somebody else's guitar that was built for a different game.

And if GH:WT has an achievement like this for their new guitar, what then?

You see my point? It's their game, they can put whatever achievements they want. Hell, they could put an achievement that said to Use GH:WT's guitar!

...oh...oh my god...really? No jk. That seemed offensive/sarcastic.

I realize this is a forum dedicated to achievements, but it semmed your point was that the inability to receive the achievement was more of a prevention of gameplay/attempt to advertise their guitar controller rather than just deprivation of an amusing award. Sometimes, you just can't get every achievement.

Not to say that I don't love achievements.

Which I do.

A lot.

Forver.

Also!

I am in agreement with Ringo and nightmare975. If they wanted, they could make an achievement for using the ION Drumset. But, seeing as how that costs $300, not many people will get that. As long as it's not 'You can't play the drums at all unless it's an ION drumset' then they've yet to cross the line.

Other Possible Achievements:
Using an Xplorer guitar from GH2
Singing with the headset instead of the mic
Playing guitar and drums at the same time

Now I'm just sounding like an @$$. Sorry.

I would say that it's warranted (and it's very, very likely too).
They are trying to make a new game that is Band oriented, more realistic and innovative (mainly to try and show up Rock Band).

My guess is that there will be an achievement in GH:WT that requires the slide/tap buttons.

I do agree that this would be a bit more shady than Rock Band making you use their solo buttons since Rock Band was the first in it's series and this is the fourth/sixth Guitar Hero.... so all the sudden changing the guitar controller is a bit on the money hungry side on Guitar Hero's part.... but at least it's based on trying to add something to the experience.

Although.... I honestly hate Guitar Hero's Achievements for being too difficult. Activision finally got it a bit better for Aerosmith.... but id actually say that most of those were too easy. They need to find a better mix and I think looking at RockBand 1 & 2 would be a place for Activision to start.

Right, I understand this. But what exactly should be the limiting factor that prevents you from unlocking any given achievement? It should be your ability to play the game.

Ah! Touche. You have bested me, sir.

I'm sure EA and Harmonix only have themselves in mind when making achievements for RB 2, so they'd try to tailor their achievements to their game amd instruments, without thinking of using a competitors instruments. But, that is why I mentioned the idea that you could use the new GH:WT guitar, so it doesn't completely limit your choice of guitars to use, it just rules out the older ones.

I really can't tell if you're being sarcastic at this point.

The point is, gameplay should be the primary factor in unlocking achievements. The distinction on where gameplay becomes the primary factor seems to differ between myself and other opinions here. To me, that line is crossed when they require you to use a certain controller not required for gameplay (not talking about guitar controllers as a whole but talking about the Rock Band guitar itself).

RINGO
08-15-2008, 07:36 PM
Sure....but I still don't think you can bash Harmonix for this achievement....They could have been like Activision and made it so that you had to use their guitars or nothing else. Instead, Harmonix said....'ok.....fine we'll let you use the Guitar Hero controllers so that more people can play our wonderful game.'

I do, however, agree with your point slightly when it comes down to other games that require things like the camera and scanable cards for achievements.... take for instance...Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise..... Technically the cards are not a part of the gameplay and shouldn't be required to unlock achievements.

Blue Radium

I saw this as well. You are literally going to have to spend one day of no eating an no drinking to do this. Laxatives may be extreme, but also will help clear your bladder. caffine pills are a risk, as if you wish to harness the power of caffine during playtime you also have to deal with how it makes you need to take a piss constantly. Or you could just have 2 buckets handy and use the bathroom in-between songs. Also extreme, but hey, holding back your urges for a good 3-8 hours or so wouldn't exactly help your playing. The "no fail" rule is something else. Hopefully this one is as easy as Rock Band 1 was. Anything reaching guitar hero 3 difficulty wth Rock Band's acceptence for mistakes while playing and this could be majorly hard not due to the "no breaks" rule but due to the "oh my god those 3 songs are so hard and we will get there after 9 1/2 hours then we could fail" factor.

it's something that happens during the world tour. when doing sets, you sometimes get offers to 5 star a song and get double the fans, but if you mess up you LOSE double the fans.. play for double the money if you get at least 4 stars, etc.. one of the things that can happen is to forget the current song you would be playing, and accept a music video offer

So sluggo from Gamespy posted on scorehero that he beat the endless setlist on expert without pausing on Saturday before the launch of RB2. As a reward, he unlocked 4 secret achievements. They are:

Beat the endless setlist on Medium - 20AP
Beat the endless setlist on Hard - 30 - AP
Beat the endless setlist on Expert - 50 - AP
Beat the endless setlist without pausing - 25 AP

Do it on expert like he did without pausing and you will unlock all four and net yourself 125 AP.
Took him 6hours 13 minutes.

So, I'm considering getting this game. I already have Rock Band 1 and am happy with it, but if I think I can 1000 point number 2, why not? So I have a few questions on some of the achievements that I don't understand. I put all the achievements that have questions about them at the bottom.

There are four BPM achievements for drums. What are these? I have no idea what these even are, also, how hard are they? What skill level does it take to get all four? Is it easier if you have multiple people play one drum set?

What are these impossible challenges? I'm sure I could beat whatever the bass and guitar challenges are, but I'm worried about the other three. For the band; does it take all four instruments? Or can you do, for example only bass and guitar? How hard are the drum and vocal challenges? Do you have to do anything special to unlock these impossible challenges?

Thanks for any and all help! :D

There are four BPM achievements for drums. What are these? I have no idea what these even are, also, how hard are they? What skill level does it take to get all four? Is it easier if you have multiple people play one drum set?

In the drum trainer you get beats and fills that you have to play 100% at a certain BPM, Beats Per Minute. It will take some skill to get the 2 faster achieves, but it's not ridiculous. If you can play Hard drums you should be fine. Think of it like practice mode, but since they aren't songs there is no way to judge 50%, 60%, etc.. speed. They are just beats and fills that you can play at any speed so you have to use BPM to specify what speed you are playing at.

Impossible challenges equate to the final tier in the old Single Player Career. They are the hardest songs for that particular instrument. You unlock them by playing the lower difficulty challenges. A challenge is just a set of songs. For Band Challenges you only need 2 instruments, but you do need at least 2. So if you can sing and play bass at the same time you are good to go. As for difficulty they equate to the last tier of songs, so they do have a fair amount of challenge to them, but if you did them in RB1 you should be okay.

I have one more question. From the looks of it the Band World Tour achievements are much less time consuming this time around. Unless there is some weird requirement to play at one of the cities, like play 1,000 songs or something. So am I correct in thinking the Band World Tour achievements should go much quicker this time?

Yep the tour achieves fall pretty fast. It's the Challenge achieves that take a while this time.

Look at the challenges. If it says Bass/Guitar/Vocals/Drums you have to play a different instrument. You will need 2 instruments since you have to have the main instrument in the challenge.

I seem to remember reading on this forum, though, that somebody had tried that and didn't unlock the achievement. That's why I asked.

to anyone who has played this game already what is a good song to get the flawless guitar solo achievement and what is a good song, instrument and difficulty to get the 90 second overdrive achievement?

Sorry if this was ansawered like 4 pages earlier, im slowly working my way through, the downloaded stephen colbert song is uber ez on both bass and guitar on expert

Also the downloaded song "They say" is pretty easy for the flawless guitar, and easy to gold star also. The chilie peppers song "Give it away" has an insanely easy guitar solo(the first one).

You only have to beat the Guitar Challenges, 1 in each level, to get the Impossible Guitar Challenge, then just beat it. You don't have to play anything other than the Guitar Challenges.

Wow, these look awesome. I can't wait to get this game Sunday! lol, these might take longer than Rock Band's original achievements.

It took me about 8 months to get all the RB1 achievements and in RB2 I am already at 855/1000 in 5 days. I plan on having 1000/1000 by the end of the weekend. These achievements are in no way close to RB1 by way of time consuming or difficulty to achieve.

I currently have 39 of the total 50. I'm closing in on the Road Dog achievement. The only ones I'm going to have trouble getting are those blasted Drum Trainer achievements. I need someone else to control the kick pedal as my brain, for some reason, can't process hands + feet rhythm. I'll keep trying, but those will probably be the last achievements I get - including the Endless Setlist/Bladder of Steel achievements.

i am having trouble with "Clothes to the Edge"... i have done almost everything in the band, and have done mos tthe challenges, all on hard or expert, but i just passed 50,000$.... Whats the fastest or best way to make money? I never seem to get more then 40$ or 200$ for a 6 song set list... any suggestions?

Bigger venues pay more money per song. Higher difficulty pays more money per song. You can replay setlists to get money out of them. Endless Setlist pays a ton.

Hire a manager with "double cash" bonus. Then go to Seattle, or any city with 3 venues and select the last one, do a "Make a Setlist" and a few times I'd net about $4k every time. If you get lucky, you'll have one of those offers presented to you and you can make more. I made one time about $12k. But the ES2 gave me about $83k lol.

I just opened up ES2 and will be trying it out later this week or this weekend. I know I can't do Bladder of Steel on Expert. It's just too much. I'll do that one on Hard. I still want Platinum Artist, so I'll work through it when I am allowed to pause.

I also just surpassed $81,000 in World Tour, so I'm getting closer to Clothes to the Edge and Road Dog as well. I think the Drum Trainer achievements will be the ones that keep me from 1000G. I'm just not that good.

Thanks for the tips so far,
How about playing with more ppl? Like i usualy play solo, if i went online and found someone to play in the tour with me, or if i joined another band, would i make more money? Basicaly does the # of ppl in your band or playing online in someone elses band infulence the money you make?

To my knowledge, the number of people doesn't have any effect. DO make sure though that when you play online that the host makes you a permanent member of their band. This will ensure that you actually do receive any money earned after gigs.

Finally got Road Dog and Clothes to the Edge last night.

Since I've been using my Les Paul guitar, I'm still lacking the 100% solo with solo buttons achievement but after that, all I need are 3 drum trainer achievements, the 3 Endless Setlist achievements, and Steel Bladder. I'm hoping to knock out all the Endless Setlist ones this weekend sometime. I badly want 1000G on RB2!

Ok, here's a question for you guys:

I'll be attempting the endless setlist, with three different Xbox Live Gold gamertags on ONE Xbox. They'll either be ported or used via memory card. Will everyone still get endless setlist achievements if we're all on one Xbox?

This questions gonna sound stupid, but I don' tunderstand how to get the falwless achievement for guitar or bass. I get 100% but I don't know how to do better than 100%. Getting 100% on drums gave me the gold stars and flawless. What's up with Guitar and Bass?

Also while I'm here I don't get all the drum fill achievements. Is it about consistancy or when they say all fills does it mean the star power or the ending sequence? Is all fills every star power in every song on the setlist or every ending sequence for every song that has one or what? I'm sure as hell I've been playing fast than 60 MPH on the star powers.

TooMuchCowbell
10-12-2008, 05:51 PM
^^Make sure you're on expert for the 100% achievements.

And you are way off on the fills. Go to Training, then Drum Trainer from the main menu. Pick Beat or Fill Trainer, and complete the indicated number of beats on the indicated BPM. You have to FC the beat/fill, meaning hit all notes, with no double hits.

Clothes To the Edge was easy to get. Just play the more difficult songs like Almost Easy and Rob the Prez-O-Dent. I got it in a day by just playing Rob The Prez-O-Dent on hard and getting 5 star every time, you get $1,200 for five and $960 for 4

Just to confirm, doing ES2 on Expert and unlocking Platinum Artist will stack the Vinyl and Gold artist achievements as well? Confirmed..make sure you can beat Visions regularly before trying this. I'm finally at the point where I can beat Visions on Expert Bass regularly, so I'm going to give ES2 a shot this weekend. I'm a little nervous as I'll be trying for all 4 of the ES2 achievements. Well, really just Platinum Artist and Steel Bladder since the medium and hard difficulty ones are stackable.

There's only two songs I'm concerned with: Panic Attack and Visions. I can beat Panic Attack on Expert Bass if I use my Overdrive wisely. Visions I'll probably practice a few times before I start the setlist so I'm sure I can beat it. I have to hit all the vital Overdrive paths to pass the song if I'm patient and, most of all, focused. It's going to be tough not being able to pause.

Regarding The Bladder of Steel Award

This can be done on any difficulty? I'm only a medium player, sometimes hard on bass, but will never get to expert.

Also, what can those with only wireless controllers do. I only have the GH3 LP wireless guitars, and the GHWT instruments which are wireless.

Hi,

I have an question about the achievments in the Band Tour Mode:

Can you finally play the Tour "on your own" or do you still have to plug in a second Controller to do Vocals when no one is arround?

And finally a question about the song difficulty in Rock Band 2:

In Rock Band (1) carrier I got to the last song with no problems, so the only one im stuck on is of course "Green Grass an High Tides" . Are there some Expertsongs in Rock Band 2 that are also so long and repetitive?

Hope you can help me.

And sorry for my bad english.

Anyone else slightly perturbed that no music game has ever gotten additional Gamerscore added via DLC?

I mean, Rock Band now has over 300 DLC songs. I'd like to think, that by now, we could've had a bone tossed our way. Especially for the few people that buy EVERY song.

Oh well. Just my thoughts.

It's the nature of the beast. Expansions add GS, and songs are not expansions. For a game like RB or GH, a new play mode would add more GS. How are they going to add GS for one song? 1GS for Gold star on Expert?

I think you could argue that songs are expansions...especially considering how many there are. Other games have gotten additional GS even though they just added some characters or powers instead of new levels. Naruto comes to mind. I'd definitely say new songs for Rock Band are akin to new character for online multiplayer in Naruto.

They'd have to make the new points DLC neutral though...I've always thought they should add more achievements for reaching X Y and Z number of completed challenges on expert. These numbers would be greater than the number of challenges that you can get on the disc, so they would technically be DLC achievements. I said X Y and Z because I'm too lazy to look up how many are on the disc and add to that lol

Who knows...Track Pack 2 and AC/DC are both 250 points...maybe one is considered the RB1 expansion and the other is considered the RB2 expansion? It would explain the odd amount of gamerscore.

I see them more akin to new cars for Forza. Just new ways to do the exact same thing. They extend the life of the game by giving you new things to play, but they don't change anything about the way you actually play.

How would you implement that, anyway? Naruto DLC came out once and added GS for each character included. RB DLC comes out weekly. How do you add the same Achieve in every single song? It's likely a limitation of the system that would prevent this.

We also don't know how the system keeps track on Achieves. It may see the same achieve in every song as different achieves and try to hand them out every time you complete the requirements on a different song.

I see what you're saying. But there would be ways to get around this-such as the ideas Sebastian mentioned. I don't mean an achievement for every song, as that would be hell (especially for completionists). I just mean a general, 250G boost. It could easily be done.

And Microsoft has been kinda lenient with their achievement policy lately, anyways. Would they really deny a request by the developer with the most DLC in their marketplace? I doubt it.

My game is glitched, it feels like I've earned at least 300k, but I never got the clothes to the edge achievement. I can verify this because I own the goat bass + guitar which = 132000 + all the clothes and additional expensive instruments I've bought. I just noticed today how much I've spent, after wondering for quite some time why the achievement won't unlock. My van never unlocked either, I had the jet and bus first. I had to start a new band to get that one, so looks like I gotta play on the other band to get the clothes achievement.....

Going for the expert ES this weekend, I'm gonna try in one go on guitar I'm finally comfortable enough now that GH metallica bumped up my alt strumming skills quite a bit :D

thanks for the link.. I searched before and couldn't find anything lol. But I think I know what my problem is. When the game came out, I took my 360 to my friends house for a "release party" and we all started a band. A week later, I took it to their house again and left it over the weekend since my g/f and I were going out of town. The only thing I can think is that my friends played our band on controllers other than the one signed in to my profile (which is usually the drums, and I'm the only one that plays drums in our band).. I know they went through a few setlists that weekend so that has to be the cause. Of course, I have NO clue which venues/cities they played while I was gone. I guess I could either just go through and replay a set in each venue on our band or just start a new one. Meh.

Got a question regarding the 'Challenge Master' achievement.
Earlier today i beat the 2 challanges i needed to reach 10 in total. But half the challanges was already played as guitarist, and i did the rest as bassist. Achievement didn't unlock.
If you quit/abandon a challange and change instrument after playing a few songs it won't count?

What i'm saying; for the last two challanges i played 3 songs as guitaris and the rest as bassist.

Nope. You have to be doing something wrong somewhere, as that has been proven to not be glitched. Here are the threads that popped when I did a search function (located in the top right corner on the main thread listing):

Remember DLC is compatible. Silver on Expert Drums is VERY easy to Gold star.

Actually looks like a good mix to me. Plenty of easy ones, lots of medium ones, and several that will tax average players beyond limits.

I'm right behind you now (Charlene) is even better in my opinion, it's about 30 sec. long and like 100 notes, plus it's free! It was very easy for me.

Since a couple of us were discussing new achievements a few months ago (wow time flies) here, I might as well keep the discussion regarding new achievements here.

Lips has received an update that added 250 GS. Like Rock Band, all of its DLC has come as new songs - no expansion or "new" gameplay.

So I definitely think Rock Band should be able to be given a boost, for this reason alone.

The Lips achievements are basically all "Complete ______" or "Perform X Amount of ________" which are basically the ideas we had brought up months earlier.

So why not?
