I hate to make yet ANOTHER thread about RB2 gameplay, but this just aired about 4 hours ago, and I haven't seen it anywhere else. Nice to see the new wireless guitar in action... can't really get a good look at the drums.

http://e3.g4tv.com/e32008/videos/27028/Exclusive_Hands_On_Rock_Band_2.html

The video is a bit of a letdown... but I thought I'd share it anyways. Heres the rundown:

1 Harmonix staff attempt to show off the game and instruments, but something apparently runs out of batteries, and they just kinda... stop.

2 Theres a Q&A with HMXGreg about the game, but it mostly focuses on the songs, which we already know about. Boring.

3 The G4TV staff attempt to play Everlong, which is just... bad. Kevin (the only talented one) is great on drums, but Oliva Munn's singing is enough to make your ears bleed.

Heres some new hands-on footage of the RB2 instruments.

Like the commenter mentions, I'm surprised that the new drums are still annoyingly loud. This changes my plan for this September/October.

UPDATE:

Here's some nice shots of the new drums, plus the cymbals:

The cymbals will be available for $15 each, or in a value-added bundle of three for $30.

So can you just buy the symbols for your rock band 1 drums?

No, you can buy cymbals for your Rock Band 2 drums.

Same game as Rock Band 1. Waste of money, only thing different is the instruments and songs. They could have just released the instruments and songs separately, songs via DLC and instruments later this year in stores. No need for a whole new game, when it's basically Rock Band 1.3 or whatever.

I'm not even going to waste my time here.

Please read up on all the new features of Rock Band 2 before you claim it's just new "instruments and songs". Your display of ignorance is disgusting.

Again I will repeat same game, a few added new features, new instruments and new songs. No need for a whole new game. Could have added all of this to the first Rock Band and been done with it. Complete waste of money! The man in the video even stated the game will have same gameplay, same graphics. What's the point? Update something besides adding a few new features, ex. Online Band World Tour, that should have been in the first Rock Band in the first place.

Also to call somebody ignorant, when all I'm doing is stating my opinion of the game is rude. When people say Madden is the same game every year, I don't go and say, look at all the new features they're adding to Madden this year. "Your display of ignorance is disgusting". It's amazing how you can no longer have an opinion or views of anything anymore without somebody being rude to you. Ridiculous!

oh man how many times do we have to go over this.

84 songs times 2 dollars per song is over 160 dollars.

so you save 100 dollars by buying rock band 2 instead of all 84 songs being released as DLC.

BBallFan, you may be stating your opinion but you are also complaining. Complaining is kind of annoying. Hence the response you are getting.

I'm not complaining, I could care less what the game has. I'm not gonna buy it, why would I want too buy a game that is the exact replica of the first one, with just a few new features, that they could have added to the first Rock Band via a patch. And annoying, you wouldn't be the first person that said I was annoying and won't be the last. If I'm complaining, I have the right to do that, making a game that is not worth the money, just to compete with GH:WT.

But I won't post in this thread anymore, since I can't state my views for this game.

Oh, so they should just made GH:WT DLC for GH III and released the instruments later on since the game looks the same but with new instruments and other things.

Plus, I'd rather buy RB2 than a big ass DLC patch becuase I don't have a lot of memory left on my 360.

So I take it you didn't buy GHII or GHIII because they were the same as the first guitar hero?

I thought you promised not to post here anymore?

Opinion and views are one thing, but you didn't voice either of those. What you did was claim Rock Band 2 (a game that isn't even out yet) was:
Same game as Rock Band 1.
Incorrect. The basic gameplay is the same, but why would they change that? Like others have said, all 5 Guitar Hero games have stayed the same.
Waste of money
Opinion, sure... but still incorrect. As other people have pointed out, it would cost you almost triple the cost of a $60 game disk if all 80+ songs were DLC.
only thing different is the instruments and songs.
Again, incorrect.
Online play. Online bands. World Tour solo play. Create your own setlists. No more band leaders. Bass solo tour. New character styles, looks, clothes and animations. I could go on and on. Song and instruments aside, Harmonix listened to the fans and fixed every "problem" with RB1. This might just be an upgrade, but the only way to distribute all this new content was with a brand new game.

Feel free to post your views and opinions... but don't claim things about a game that are blatantly incorrect. I made light of your ignorance only because all of your statements were incorrect.

Drumset looks great, too bad I can't buy it for my RB 1 set. I also saw someone ranting on another forum that the RB 1 instruments weren't compatible with RB 2. Doubt that's true.

Also looking forward to Bass solo career, although if it's like Rock Band 1, all the bass songs are going to be extremely easy except about 5 of them.

That's why they didn't include a bass tour in RB1. Public outcry is why they put it in. I personally don't want to play a bass tour for that reason, but whatever.

On the topic of RB1/RB2 instruments, here's a nice look at the new Mad Catz microphone... apparently called M.I.C: Microphone w/ Integrated Controller. *eyeroll*

I do like how is has lock/unlock buttons, so you don't interrupt gameplay accidentally.

Also in the same engadget story is a look at the boxes for some other Mad Catz junk:

The 3-pack cymbal kit, as mentioned earlier:

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/mc_cymbal2.jpg

A kick drum... screen. Which does nothing but make the drums look a little sillier:

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/mc_kickscreen.jpg

And the ridiculous portable drum kit. Because taking the drums apart for transportation takes 6-7 minutes to do... and apparently thats too long?

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/mc_portdrums.jpg

The sad thing is... if that kick drum screen is under $7, I'll probably buy it.

AND... as if this post wasn't long enough (and had too many picture attachments) heres a nice look at the official RB2 drum kit and metal foot pedal.

I wonder if they will sell the new foot pedal by itself?

Depending on my ultimate decision for the Ion kit ($300 frackin' dollars! Oi, that's a new custom snare or a double kick pedal for my real kit!) I may get the cymbal pack, and that's only if I can put them where I want them. I don't like the way they are set up as shown. I want the green moved over to the left on a tall pole like the blue one. The mic is near identical to the one from GH:WT, so that's a no.

Dex, you could probably make a custom screen for what that thing is going to cost.

Custom screen?

Here's another pic of the new RB2 drums... also showing off the cymbal inputs & battery cover. From what I've seen, you can mount the cymbals anywhere you want, and the box I posted earlier (click here (http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/mc_cymbal2.jpg)) lists 1 clamp + 1 double clamp + 2 extension poles. Sounds like the cymbals are separate from the placement & hight, which you can set yourself.

Yeah, I didn't notice that, I was hoping it wasn't a 'double clamp only fits on the right' kind of situation. It's still not exactly what I would want, but it's close enough for a game controller. If I don't get the Ion, I'll definitely get the cymbal pack.

Personally, I like the idea of the integrated mic. Would love to not have to juggle a controller and a mic, especially when singing for a contest which adds a notepad and a pen.:)

Let's face it. I'm going to try to do this so that I hurt the fanboys the least. Most of the stuff Rock Band 2 is adding should have been there in the first one. The pedal is crap and should've been metal. Online Band Tour was a no brainer. A better calibration system was a no brainer, although the one they will have is shit, and the Rock Band 1 is shit too.

There's still a few very small things that I haven't heard anything about, and if they don't fix it, I would be very disappointed. Like seeing your percentages for each part of a song once you finish, so you know what to practice, amongst other things.

I'm just saying, it's nothing revolutionary.

Dex

...I'm just saying, it's nothing revolutionary.
Almost everything you said is true, and pretty much what Harmonix has said in every interview.

HMX rushed to get Rock Band out last year (not only for the holiday season, but to compete with GH3), and had to omit a lot of features that they wanted to include. Over the last 10 months, they have perfected everything that existed in the first game, added dozens of things that the fans requested, and finally got the band world tour online; which is the main thing they've been programming. They were originally hoping to add BWT online with a patch, but the logistics of that were almost impossible with the existing game; It would have reset all the local BWT progress, which would have pissed a lot of people off.

Harmonix has been working hard since 2007 on everything wrong/missing in the first game, and they have openly admitted that RB2 isn't innovation, it's perfection. I really don't see this as a flaw at all, when many view RB1 as one of the best music rhythm games of all time.

What changed between GH1 and GH2? New songs.
What changed between GH2 and GH:80s? New songs.
What changed between GH:80s and GH3? New songs, graphics and online play.
What changed between GH3 and GH:A? New songs.

If you're going to complain about music games not being revolutionary, why not look at games that have 5 titles with under 30 songs of DLC, with their upcoming 6th title being a ripoff of RB, not one game that has a library of 200+ songs, and is just now coming out with it's first sequel. If RB3 comes out in 2009, then feel free to bitch all you want.

You mean besides pretty much everyone that has tried it? Ya, don't try and make a point anymore. Besides, that, I agree with Dex. It is not just a way for Harmonix to perfect, it is to get us some cheaper-than-usual songs, and I'm all for it.
