Yah , I wanted to play some guitar hero. And my normal controller was charging in plug and kit , I unplugged it and put my gh disk in and got 1 red ring in the bottom right hand corner and said e74? I think im out of warranty too , so what do I do?

E74: AV cable error... There is a problem with the AV cable, try using a different AV cable. If the cable is known to be working then there is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip connected directly to the AV cable) in rare cases it is the GPU.

Try a different cable

Try calling MS and see if you're still under warrenty. If not, you might have to look around for a new cable.

Edit: Daywalker, you need to stop posting at the same time as me. :p

Judging by your error, E74, that is the major problem. Try buying one if it still doesn't work return it.

To get your box repaired by microsoft you need to contact them and they will tell you what to do. Its different in each country. But it will go something like either they will send you a box you put your box in that box and send the box right on back and wait, OR they give you details by email and you whack a postage paid thing on a nicely packed box with your box in it and send it and wait. But you need to contact them to set up a repair order first.

EDIT : My friend is saying that they will charge me because I have 1 ring of death? I dont know what to believe.

I know it's dumb, but I don't know you so we're going to check this route, too. Did you unplug the cable and plug it back in? Which AV cable are you using? If it has the HD/SD selector, verify it is in the proper spot and not stuck between positions. Unplug it entirely from the Xbox and plug it back in. Sometimes this will fix the issue.

iNSANiTY

I unplugged everything from the xbox and nothing happened.

I unplugged everything from the xbox and nothing happened.

Well, you have to plug it back in...

j/k, just wanted to check. I'd buy a cable. You can always return them if that's not the fix. *shrug* It's quicker then sending everything out.

Oh , people have said because it is error e74. That microsoft will not fix it as my console is only in warrenty for the RROD.

Artamus

Then artificially create the RRoD with TTT. The Towel Trick .
Insanity, for the record, it's much better to read posts written properly, although halp isn't much of a problem.

I was going to do that today , then my mum was like you will start a fire! Is there any like do's and dont's to the towel trick?

Dude, these guys tell you to buy a new cable, and so you try and send it away? It's only one red ring, just BUY A NEW CABLE!

The major problem with the Xbox is the three red rings - 'The' RROD. Since it's a hardware problem that they have been unable to iron out yet, then they won't charge you for that.

Sending it off with one red ring, where the problem can easily be fixed by replacing/cleaning/whatever the cable, then of course they are going to charge you because, in all honesty, you are wasting their time.

Try your mate's cable and if that doesn't work, then there's probably something wrong with the unit socket, so then you will have to send it off.

Alternatively, buy a HDMI cable and hook your xbox up to a HD TV. By-passes the AV socket entirely. (That is the AV cable yeh? The one that plugs into the TV and not the power one? I forget sometimes...)

Doesent matter now. Just gave me the RRoD! I turned it on and did nothing but flashed up. So I will be ok sending it off.

I got an idea, while you wait a month you could buy a book (only a second hand one as your VERY cheap) and learn to read/spell. Halp? Been laughing all day :p

You know I've had three RROD's since i bought my Xbox in October last year. Do you know how many times I've sent it off for repair? Or done the towel trick?

None.

Think about that.

I have had that error for the past 2 months on and off and all I do is shut off the system and turn it back on. Boom, it works.
