View Full Version : Wireless vs. wired headsets

I'm thinking I'm gonna have to get one of these soon, but I was wondering which one ya'll prefer over the other? I can't decide which one, but the only thing swaying me toward a wired headset is the price. But there's also a hella lot of generic brand wired headsets out there... I don't know!

Well I have the Turtle Beach X1 headset which are wired and they work great. Haven't had one problem out of them Don't get the X3 headset as they are not reliable. But the X1 does cost $60, but they're well worth the money.

The wireless headsets suck. I've never had one, but my friends use them for XBL and there is so much interference on my end I can barely make out what they say sometimes. Go with the wired one. :P

I use a wired headset lol I bet id break the wireless one.. The cord its self never gets in my way but thats just my opinion

i love my wireless one ive had no complaints with people i tlk to my mate says it sounds more like me then the wired one did

the xbox wired one breaks (some peoples alot)

i see no real difference between the wired or wireless, only the fact that the wireless is well...wireless :p and it looks alot more fancier than the wired one. however, i think the wired one is a much better choice because it performs the same as the wireless (or sometimes better especially with connection) and is obviously cheaper.

I dont like the fact the wireless has to be charged, but I find that they dont break as often.

They both look really stupid but the Wireless one just looks a little less stupid than the Wired. Either way, they are just headsets. Though I do want a Wireless because wires piss me off so much.

My wireless one has never once caused me a problem, and I use it all the time. True, it must be charged, but if you plug it in each night before you go to bed, you'll never have to worry about it dying on you while in the middle of an online session.

What about headsets like this (http://cgi.ebay.com/Live-Headset-With-Microphone-NEW-for-MICROSOFT-Xbox-360_W0QQitemZ150284404267QQihZ005QQcategoryZ139969 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)? Anyone ever used of them?

That's the headset that comes with the 360. It works fine and you can usually find it cheap.

Thats an older version of the Xbox Headset. I got that one when I purchased my first xbox, however I had the one with the clicker on the wire when I got my elite.

I dont like the fact the wireless has to be charged, but I find that they dont break as often. yeah thats my view too... but it takes a little bit to charge.

I have both. I prefer the wired headset. The wireless one is never ready when I need it ( I'm just too lazy to be bothered with charging it ALL the time )

08-19-2008, 09:04 PM
I would have to say wired. The Tritton AX360 is my headset of choice.

i have both a wired and a wireless and i love my wireless headset, i know a lot of people talk shit about them but i think if you take care of them they work fine, never had any interference problems and i can here sdo much better with it it is louder and clearer then my wired headset...just my opinion

i have both and i use my wired one just because i hate charging my wireless one

08-20-2008, 06:51 AM
My preference is the wireless one!
Mainly i tend to move around alot whilst in the lobby so dont have to carry the controller!
Also i have never had any issues with the quality!

i am in a win/lose situation...

i tend to break my wired headsets often, like once every 3-4months.

but the wireless one is 30, and needs charging. im so lazy and get annoyed with charging i have 3 controllers on the go lol...

so im like hmmmmm next time my mic brakes :/

BEWARE, if you do get wired, they genreally break alot.

I used a wired Turtle Beach, go with one of those they are amazing (not 20 bucks of crap)

I would go with wired. I have several friends with wireless mics and they have nothing but trouble with them.

08-20-2008, 11:47 AM
I say wired, I've had 3 wireless headsets and all have up ended broken through no fault of my own. Also they dont pick up much sound, my friend has one, talking to him in private chat is ok but when your in crowded lobby his voice is drowned out by others using wired headsets.

08-20-2008, 01:30 PM
I never really saw the point of going wireless. For the cost of a wireless headset I could buy several wired ones. And if I was going somewhere away from the controller, I don't think it's a big deal to take it off and put it on again later ...

Thanks for all the feedback, guys! Appreciate it muchly!

08-20-2008, 01:49 PM
I agree with everyone who said wired. I had a wireless one but it sucked really bad. I have some deformed ears or something and it wouldn't stay on. I still use the wired one that came with my xbox.

08-20-2008, 02:13 PM
I use both wired and wireless. Like both usually no problems unless I forget to charge my wireless. Been using a Plantronics wired one since original xbox, bought an adapter than lets me play it on 360. thing works great.

08-20-2008, 02:29 PM
Wireless FTW.

I charge it whenever I turn my 360 off, and it lasts very long. I think I only had to take it off once in a long gaming marathon and charge it.

I have the turtle beach X3 and love it. I've not had any problems with it. My buddy and I both have them and never had any feedback problems etc. I recommend it if you want wireless.

I have a wireless and wired 3rd party mics.
Wireless: Only problems I have when I stand by the microwave it tends to act up but then again the manual says stay away from it. Its easy and nice to use.

Wired: No complaints just hate walking around with the controller in my hand, and the cord gets in the way.

08-21-2008, 01:13 AM
Wireless hands down but make sure to have a wired one for when the wireless is being changed.

08-21-2008, 04:16 AM
I love the wireless headset, it's a lot more comfortable than the wired and has a long life span. The wired ones, I went through them like crazy (always small different issues from no one can hear me, the mute not working, etc).

Downside to the $60 official 360 one is, the battery life will not get you through a full day of gaming. Which kind of sucks, but then i switch to this cell phone headset until it charges. Make sure you get a backup if you pick up a wireless.

Wired ftw. i use a wired controller too.

I hate batteries

08-22-2008, 01:17 AM
have wireless controller that came with Pro package althought if i accidently hit my wired mic when i put it back it screw arround everytime, somehow i found a trick just turn off the controller then somehow the mic works like a charm

planning to get steelseries siberia for pc and xbox seem to have nice review over it

I use wired, never felt like foolin with the wireless,, too expensive for what it is anyway
