-.- I've had my xbox for a week and It's already put scratches running around my copy of gears of war. I now get an error message saying unable to read the disc when i try to play it. Does the 360 usually damage discs? It's never been out of the cover except for putting it into my 360, could this be a problem with my disc drive?

Unless you moved it while the disk was inside it then it's probably malfunctioning. That's what it sounds like, anyway.

do you have it standing vertical?

if so that is what is doing it..since when the discs slow down they start to wobble a bit and that scratches them.

I noticed the 360 does scratch discs ever so slightly, even more so when it's vertical. And for some reason, Xbox original games get scratched worse

When you bought your 360, there was a sticker right on the tray that said something along the lines of "Do not move your system while there is a game in the tray. Damage will occur."

The circular scratches are a result of your system moving while in play. Now you may not have done it yourself, but somehow, the system wobbled just enough for it to burn into it.

Don't listen to these people, I know what you mean and I had the same problem too. I wouldn't move my console at all and yet my Halo 3 and Tony Hawk's Proving Ground stopped working in a matter of days thanks to it. I went and got it repaired, cost 60 but it was worth it. Losing the 80 on those 2 games really pissed me off.

Best thing to do is to give Micrsoft a ring. They will tell you what to do.

if u hav just got it then MS should be able to do something for you so id try contacting them and tell them how the disks hav only been in the tray and cases

My P.C 360 and my old game cube scratched my disks.I mean I put them in and don't take them out for like a month and they're all scratched out.

1. Put your XBOX Horizontally
2. DO NOT knock your XBOX

With these rules it should not happen again unless there is a problem with your XBOX.

Not true. My box is horizontal and in 100% working condition (as was my first 360, which did eventually RRoD after 2 years) and it scratches the discs. I know because I don't touch or move my console at all while playing (and no one else does either) and I always put my games back in their cases, handling them properly.

It happens.

Well luckily for you, Microsoft replaces/exchanges disks of games they publish, so Gears should be covered if you go look it up on Xbox.com

Either way, if your positive its scratching disks and isn't your error i'd contact MS support about getting your 360 sorted out.

Yeah, always have it horizontal. It may look cool vertical, but you're chancing it destroying your games.

Yeah my friend was having problems connecting to live...so being a dumbass he hits the side of the 360 pulls out bad company with a perfect circle scratch around the cd.

dont do that.

Mine does it too, makes games that read from the discs alot (like rpgs) come up with disc read error quite frequently. My disc drive is knackered anyway though, won't even open on it's own anymore :\
