I worked the doors in Dallas and set the ring up in our out of town shows from '93 to '96 before I was trusted to work with the guys. It was pretty tight and hush-hush back then. And then I helped the sound guy and in '97 I as asked to ref. No one could just come in and work, even to be a ref.

The "bottom of the barrel" stuff is where you start at. I'd say, 10% of the guys who start out in wrestling schools, make it to the WWE. it's like any sport, like many minor league guys actually make it to the majors? And with the WWE being the only real big time organization, it makes it ever harder to get in.

Your friend could hurt his body, depending on his height at 300lbs. My heaviest was 260lbs at 6'1" but it wasn't fat! As for him wrestling, he'd have to go to a wrestling school, get passed that, make it for several years in a minor league organization and then MAYBE if a pro scout saw him, he'd have to try out for them. Not to discourage him it's really difficult to get into it now days. I was doing it for fun but I did see a few of our guys move onto the "pros".
