Operation Flashpoint is rather different compared to most first person shooting games. This isn't your typical run and gun shooting game, you will need to hone your skills and learn military tactics before you master this game. Each weapon, load-out and environment is different from the next. I recommend that you find a Co-Op partner(s), before starting the game. You will find working as a team with human players will help you earn more victory's, rather than spending hours on each level with the AI.

If you do not have a Co-Op partner(s) for this game the AI will work in your favor. They aren't always the best teammates, and they ignore a lot of your commands, but just keep trying. Try out different tactics if the current ones are casing the AI to make stupid decisions. Don't be surprised if your AI decides to turn into Rambo or stand still in the middle of a firefight, that seems to be the standard for the AI in this game. You will want to use the order menu to gain the upper hand, and control your squad to avoid their demise most of the time.

Achievement Bugs:

It has been reported some achievements won't unlock while in Co-op, and will unlock at random for certain players. If you complete an objective, and are waiting to re-spawn from death you will not earn the achievement for that objective.

There is no real reason why some achievements do not unlock. If you complete a level and fail to be rewarded with that missions achievement, try to play through again on your own with the AI.

All achievements will mostly unlock in Co-Op play, but you may need to do them more than once to gain the achievement due to glitches. These issues may be resolved at a later date with a patch.

The achievements are straightforward enough, you complete missions, and other objectives that will earn you most if not all of the achievements. Check through the mission specific achievements to find out what side objective/achievements you can earn while in each level. Most of them you will miss unless you know what to do, and how to achieve them.

Expansion Mission Codes:
You may want to start off entering these codes when you get the game, or you can leave them until later on. There are no achievements tied to these missions, but they add a few extra side missions to the game.

To enter the following codes, go to the extras menu, and then select bonus codes.

AmbushU454 - Ambush
CloseQ8M3 - Close Quarters
StrongM577 - Coastal Stronghold
OFPWEB2 - Debris Field
OFPWEB1 - Encampment
RaidT18Z - Night Raid

Play-through 1: Normal
Before you start out decide if you want to do this alone or with a Co-Op partner(s). It doesn't matter how you do the game, alone or with a Co-Op partner(s). If you choose to play with a partner(s), and want to progress you will need to keep playing with the same host.

As you start out everything may seem quite difficult, and you may keep dying or have a hard time understanding what's going on. Play through the first training mission a few times to help you understand the game. This mission will really help you if you’re struggling to get the hang of the controls. This isn't a typical shooting game so running into a group of enemies won't get you far, so just stay with your crew and take your time, and you should be fine.

On this play through you will also be able to complete miscellaneous objectives to earn extra achievements. Some can be a little difficult so take your time, and you can always come back later to earn the achievements you missed through the mission select option.

Playthrough 2: Hardcore
By this point I would have expected you to run through the game at least once on Normal. If you have played through the game at least once, you should be familiar with each mission, and know what to expect. You won't have a HUD, and you will not know if an enemy has been incapacitated or how much ammo you have. Take it slow, and pay attention, and if you become overwhelmed, fallback to a safe area where you can rethink your plan of action.

You can find tips on how to survive listed under the "Dragon Rising - Hardcore" achievement. There is no real direct way to tackle this game or difficulty, as everyone will use their own tactics to play through the game in their own way.

This is the best way to play the game, but be sure to find someone your comfortable playing with. There is an achievement for using the field dressing on a wounded Co-Op player so be aware of wounded team mates, and try to heal them as often as you can. All the achievements will unlock while playing online and with your Co-Op partner(s).

The one down side to playing with a Co-Op partner(s) is you need to play with the same host each time to carry on with your progress in the mission. The game wil only save this information on your Co-op partner's console. You will not be able to progress without them on the missions that you and your partner have played together.

A microphone is rather important while playing with other players if you do not communicate with your follow Co-op players you may not do so well. Just remember pressing the medic button repetitively may not get a response, but asking for help over a microphone will.

All side mission/objective achievements will unlocked for everyone who is playing unless it's directed at the squad leader only. Examples are: calling in an Air-strike, only the leader may call in Air-strikes and Artillery. If the objective is shoot down a helicopter, everyone will earn that achievement once the objective is completed.

Some achievements can only be unlocked through multiplayer. These game modes are there for fun, rather than for earning achievements, but there are two that you will be able to unlocked "Low Blow" and "The Sky is Falling".

The game itself is fairly hard, and you will need to keep trying to make your way through it. If you manage to survive the war, and battle your way though to victory, congratulations on a job well done.

All the achievements in this game will unlocked for players in Co-Op no matter who you play as, but some are only obtainable if you are the host.

As you progress through the game you will unlock the various achievements for completing primary objectives. You do not always need to complete the level for an achievement to unlock, but most will unlock once you complete the primary missions.

There are a few basic tactics which will help you through most missions, please see the following list:
  • Always keep a close watch ahead, and of your surroundings
  • Use your compass effectively
  • Always use your team to flank or suppress whenever possible
  • If your overwhelmed suppress, and run for cover
  • Make sure you are safe when applying field bandages Rising - Hardcore - 100:gsicon:
Complete the campaign on Hardcore difficulty

This is a story related achievement see "Dragon Rising" for more info.

This will cause you the most issues compared to the rest of the achievements. The game is hard enough, but take away your HUD and every visual aid, and it becomes quite a challenge. Your going to need to make it from the start of the level through to the end without dying. Pick up as much ammo as possible, and be sure you know where you have to go.

I suggest you start off on either Normal or Experienced before you attempt this. It will help you become familiar with the missions, and the game itself.

The AI in this game is not the most helpful, but they do suffice on the easier difficulties. I would recommend if you want to gain this achievement it is best to play through with a Co-op partner(s).

Please see the following helpful hints:
  • Play through the game at least once.
  • Learn the missions on easier difficulties.
  • Always stay in cover.
  • Move slowly, and stay near your squad.
  • If your overwhelmed move back ,and rethink your tactics.
  • Talk to your Co-op team, and help one another.
  • Change your fire rate to single for long range shooting effectiveness.
  • Don't waste ammo, if your not close enough switch to single shots.
  • Take your time, and think out your plan of attack.
Use the other tactics provided in "Dragon Rising" as they will also be helpful.

Fizzmatix 10-10-2009 04:29 PM Nightingale Award - 20:gsicon:
Apply the field dressing to another wounded soldier 20 times

When one of your team mates is wounded, and requires your help hold down :bbut: and change to the field dressing, and hold down the :rtbut: to heal them. You must heal and save 20 soldiers for this achievement.

If you don't feel like waiting for this achievement to unlock use the following method:
  • Load up the first mission
  • Shoot soldier 1, then use the field bandage on him
  • Request the medic to heal him.
  • Shoot soldier 2 and repeat the second step again.
Keep doing this until you have earned the achievement. Patched Up - 20:gsicon:
Apply a field dressing to an injured friend in co-op

Join in on a co-op game either with friends or in a random game. As soon as a teammate needs assistance hold down :bbut: and change to your field dressing, and apply the dressing to you're wounded teammate by holding down the :rtbut:. This doesn't work on AI, and you also will not be able to do this if you are playing as a Medic. Hands - 20:gsicon:
Complete a mission without directly killing anyone yourself.

You may want to learn the controls, and get used to the way the game plays first. You can earn this achievement while playing through the first mission . Hold down the :rb: to order your team mates to suppress, and have them assault the enemies. Work your way up to the helicopter extraction point, and once you extract from the level the achievement will unlock.

You can use artillery strikes with jeopardizing this achievement. You can also shoot at soldiers as long as you don't kill them. If you make a mistake and kill someone, just die, and restart from the previous checkpoint. This will allow you to carry on and earn the achievement. Killer - 50:gsicon:
Kill or incapacitate 100 enemies

This will come with natural progression through the game. As you make your way through the missions you should be able to kill plenty of soldiers. By the time you finish the first set of missions you should be well on your way to "Squad Slayer." You can keep replaying missions or you can play with a Co-Op player for this achievement. Pounder - 30:gsicon:
Kill or incapacitate 50 enemies

See "Company Killer" Slayer - 20:gsicon:
Kill or incapacitate 25 enemies

See "Company Killer" Sky is Falling - 20:gsicon:
Kill an enemy with a helicopter without using its weapons

Once you get the chance to fly a helicopter, find a group of enemies and land the chopper directly on top of them. It's easier than it sounds, but it may be easier in multi-player as you can coordinate with others and get this faster than in single play.

If you have a boosting partner, setup a match with them, and once you're both in the match order your troops to move away from your boosting partner. Find a helicopter in any map, and jump in. Tap the :rtbut: to start the engine and have your partner run into the rotating propeller. This is the easiest way to earn this achievement unless you want to try crashing the chopper into a few people. Skies - 20:gsicon:
Kill an enemy vehicle with an AA weapon

This is part of the forth mission. You will be ordered to use SAM Launcher to take out the helicopter which is heading toward the airfield. When the helicopter is in range lock on to it and fire. This is quite straightforward and unmissible, and you will find the SAM Launcher in a crate on the first floor of the Control Tower to help you achieve this. Metal - 20:gsicon:
Kill an enemy vehicle with an AT weapon

Head to the first SAM site on the training level, it's at the very top of the map located at the lighthouse. Just before you assault the enemies below, climb up the large hill next to this area. On top you will find a broken turret/circular building, and inside you will find a few large ammo crates. Change your load out so that you have the Javelin in your possession.

Go to the left side of the hill where you will come to a cliff, hold the :ltbut: and look down towards the APC on the road near the base. This may be a little tricky to line up but once you are locked on the sight will change to 4 markers. Stay locked on for a minute or so until you have a blue marker/cross showing on the display. Press :rtbut: to fire and take out the APC. Blow - 20:gsicon:
Kill an enemy vehicle with an AT mine

You will need to lay down an AT mine, and you can only do this as an Engineer though there are other ways around this. You can either do this online with Co-op players which is far more easier, rather than you trying to achieve this with the AI in the normal mission campaigns. Use the following video example and bonus mission

(StrongM577 - Coastal Stronghold).

Alternatively, setup a player match with a friend, and order all your troops to move to a location away from you boosting partner. Make sure your an engineer, and lay down an AT Mine and get your boosting partner to drive over it, and the achievement will unlock. Rain - 20:gsicon:
Call in your first artillery barrage

Just after you start the training mission you will soon be given the option to call in an Artillery strike on a village below. Press the :ybut: to pull up the menu, and select the Artillery barrage. Aim where you want the Artillery Barrage to fire on, and prompt the commands, and after you fire down on the enemies this achievement will unlock. and Awe- 20:gsicon:
Call in your first air strike

While defending the airfield on mission 4 you will be given the ability to call in an Air-strike to take out the vehicles that are coming your way. Press :ybut: and select air strike this is basically the same as "Hard Rain", but using an alternative strike. Island Tour - 30:gsicon:
Find the PLA helicopter and fly it around Skirinka Island in Dragon Rising

On the first mission you need to complete your primary objective, once you have done so a helicopter will land for extraction. Instead of leaving via the extraction you will need to destroy the two SAM sites located in the North and on the West beach. Once you have done so go down to the beach on the West coastline, and fly the helicopter around the island. As soon as you do this the mission will unlock. Ops - 30:gsicon:
Eliminate the PLA Commander in Blinding The Dragon

On the second mission make your way through to the Sunburn and destroy it. Once you have completed this part of the mission you will see a small group of buildings off to the North East. Assault these buildings and kill all the soldiers. There is one soldier who is located in the main building/house he is the PLA Commander, and you have to kill him to attain this achievement.

It doesn't matter who kills him, it can be AI or a co-op teammate, but you will have to kill him to earn the achievement. After you kill him this achievement will unlock for everyone playing who has not earned it. Creative - 30:gsicon:
Destroy the PLA APC at the top of the beach in United We Stand

This may take a few tries you will need to make your way past all the AT Teams, and past the broken tank in the road. You will need to go behind the house near the third AT Team, and use the Queen Bee to destroy the APC entering the map from the North. As long as you get there before your teammates, and other squad members on the map this shouldn't be to difficult. If your still not sure where to go, you will cross a road as you head up the hill too kill the Spotters.

The Queen Bee is located in a ammo crate behind the barn next to the AT Teams.

Fizzmatix 10-10-2009 04:30 PM Shooter - 30:gsicon:
Destroy the fleeing PLA transport helicopter in Eagle Offense

Fairly near the start of the mission you will need to destroy two APC's as they make their way towards your convoy. Destroy the two APC's, but don't progress onwards just yet. Look to the sky just in front of you, and shoot down the helicopter that will fly over head. Use a semi automatic weapon or an assault rifle , because you won't be able to destroy the chopper using RPGs or slow firing weapons. - 30:gsicon:
Destroy the PLA armored units around the ghost village in Powder Trail

While making your way to the extraction point with the hostages take out all the APC's around the village in Mission 5. Once you destroy the last APC, and before you extract this achievement will unlock. This sounds easier than it is, and the reason is because this is one of the harder missions. If you have a Co-Op team, I would recommend playing through with them instead of the AI. You will need to take out quite a few soldiers on top of taking out the APC's, and having Co-op players that actually listen and help, rather than playing with the AI will make this much easier to attain. the fire - 30:gsicon:
Destroy all of the PLA fuel trucks in Hip Shot

While playing through Hip Shot you will see the fuel trucks around the depot. You need to blow them up in order to earn the achievement. Be warned, you may want to do this with friends as you will need your teammates to back you up to make this easier. Efficiency - 30:gsicon:
Eliminate the remaining troops on the second line with one mortar barrage in Bleeding Edge

Make your way through the level and up the big hill towards the fuel depot. Once you make your way past all the MG nests proceed up the hill. Once you get to the top HQ will contact you with orders to destroy the AT Crews on the other side of the ridge.

When your ready to do so select your Artillery strike by pressing :ybut:, and aim between the two MG nests. Request for a tight strike and wait to see if the achievement unlocks. If you are running through the campaign by yourself there is a save point just before this event so if you make a mistake reload, and try again. Rescue - 30:gsicon:
All hostages must survive in Looking for Lois

This will take some patience you need to save all 4POW's, and make it from one side of the valley to the other with all of them surviving. The easiest route to survive this without the hostages being harmed is to head over the mountain to your left. You need to keep your distance from the PLA troops. At the start of the level you will find a sniper rifle on a few of the dead soldiers and in various ammo crates. Make good use of this gun as it will make it easier to save the POW's. After you rescue the POW's, and make your way to the other side of the valley to the extraction point. You MUST extract all 4 POW's for the achievement to unlock. 'em Rolling - 30:gsicon:
Ensure all of the Abrams reach the supporting fire position in Trumpet's Sound

Once you start the mission you will see the tanks in front of you. You must escort the tanks through the level without them being destroyed. As long as you listen to the instructions, and take out all of the tanks and AT crews you should be fine. Once you have taken out the tanks and AT crews on the last large hill in front of you the achievement will unlocked. Birds, One Stone - 30:gsicon:
Eliminate Han and the radio station with one JDAM in Decapitation

You should earn this without any issues, as it's part of your mission to sneak around and take out General Han with the Air-strike at the end of the mission. Keep following the markers and make your way to the top of the valley on the far side. When you are told to make the strike do so, and the achievement will unlock. Envelopment - 30:gsicon:
Pilot an MH-60S safely to the designated landing zone in Dragon Fury

Shortly after you start the mission you will need to clear out the valley leading to a small village. After you have killed all the troops two choppers will land, and you will need to walk up to the pilot side and press :abut: to climb in the pilot seat. Fly the chopper to the designated LZ, and make it there without crashing or bumping into anything. This also includes taking excessive damage from firing troops below. Once you land the plane, and assuming you have not damaged the MH-60s, the achievement should unlock.

Indeed, until other achievement videos show up on youtube there isn't much i can do. My capture device is acting up so i have no real way to capture videos currently unless i can get it to behave.

Most of the extra achievements are quite easy and straightforward. Either way i will keep an eye on youtube to see if more videos show up.

JohnnyR74 10-18-2009 11:13 AM

Well, I gave it a shot. :p

Good job on the guide nonetheless.

Planet13 10-18-2009 01:51 PM

WOW, another guide,
3 in two weeks, I can't wait till next week.
I think I'll make one also.

Necro Knight 10-18-2009 05:51 PM

Nice guide! :)

A usefull tip for the ones having trouble with the chopper controls. You do not have to fly it yourself! Instead go over to the co-pilot seat and use the Move and Hover command on the map. This can be used for both the "Skirinka Island Tour" and "Vertical Envelopment" achievements.

Cacky 10-18-2009 06:19 PM

Yet another top quality guide, Fizz. I'll definitely be using this when I get the game for Christmas. :)

ReaLiStiiC 10-19-2009 02:24 AM

Great guide :D
Too bad I already have 900g and basically only need to playthrough on Hardcore.
The videos will be helpful for a friend I know you missed alot of the side achievements and he didnt like the other guide. Def will tell him about this one.
Keep up the work. Great quality and effort put into the guide.

SWAGGART 10-19-2009 05:24 AM

Great guide, nice work alot more detail, good work, lovin the videos

bloodswan 10-19-2009 07:02 AM

There is one online achievement. All Patched Up as there is no offline co-op (unless u play system link)

VladimirK 10-19-2009 05:58 PM

Nice guide :)
Really detailed.

One point would be changing the co-op achievement to online since there's no local.
Then again, who am I to criticise that? Looks like you put a lot of effort into this.

You should see purple smoke, and one of your fireteam says something along the lines of, "Look, purple smoke."

What happened to the other guide that was on the forum?

Shipley0110 11-02-2009 11:09 AM

For the Skirinka Island Tour achievement, can you get your team to fly the helicopter for you around the island? As I had a go at flying the Helicopter with me as the pilot and crashed!!

I figured telling the team to get in the chopper with me as a pilot and setting waypoints around the island for them to follow.

Also do you have to fly around Skirinka and the little island in the bottom right or just round Skirinka itself?

You can have 4 players in co-op, and a sortve yes to your first answer as well, you can play the game in co-op and still get the achievements but only the host is reported to get the achievements, as the friend i was playing with did not get any level achievements so i guess it's the same for the ending achievements as well.

wolvieware 01-18-2010 12:12 AM

I didn't get the complete the game achievement in coop, but my friend did. :( Nevermind, I'm glad to have finished this game now, so not fussed about going after it, and therefore having to play this game more!
