Introduction:

Introduction:

The original Galaga was a fairly easy game. It let you level select and was very easy to learn. This game however, is the complete opposite. There are two modes, Adventure and Championship. Adventure mode gives you one set of lives and it’s up to you to survive all 5 levels without a game over. This game is unforgiving and relentless. When you first start playing, it will be extremely easy on level one, and you think you are advancing to level 5 as it shows you “level 03” and etc as you progress. Then after you beat the boss at the end of it, you realize that was just one whole level, with 5 different sub levels. Having hardly any lives, you advance to level 2, and realize the reality.

How To Play

With auto-fire enabled you will only have to worry about to controls. Your right and left analogue sticks. Your left will control your ship’s movements. Your right will deploy satellites which are basically the two little things on the sides of you firing. Click the right stick in the direction you want one of them firing, and then the other one can be placed in the same manor in the same or any direction you prefer. This is absolutely crucial that you learn proper placing of these. You may notice blue neon lines at times displayed in different patterns. The game is hinting of the directional movement of the enemy. The orange neon squares/lines are where you want to always place your satellites because it’s the main point of force. If you can always shoot the orb/center of all enemies to make a combo and create an explosion for all enemies attached. The sphere that looks like it has lightning in it is Galaga. Shoot it when you see it to gain a huge advantage! If you miss it I’d almost suggest just restarting the entire level.

Step 1: Championship Mode

This mode let’s you pick any of the 5 levels regardless if beaten or not. To make things easier on you, always be on “Auto-Fire” mode. Keep the skin as original, the other skins will throw you off (they make the ship look different). Pick the levels in order and try to gain the achievements in them. There are videos in the guide to help out. Every level you beat, you will get an achievement and once completing the last one, you will gain “All Championship Areas Clear”. On the first level try your best to survive to gain the One Life Only achievement. I suggest replaying the same level to also get Zero Deployments. It’s easier to do them in separate sessions.

Step 2: Adventure Mode

If you got good enough to actually make it passed all the levels in Championship Mode then you have gotten farther than a lot of people. Now you have to clear all 5 levels without a game over. This is by far the hardest and most time consuming, as well as frustrating set of achievements in the game. The last achievement alone is worth 50 points! Hopefully you have had enough practice in the Championship Mode to die less frequently. Pay attention to the videos and pause often to get a head start on what’s coming your way.

Conclusion:

Very hard game, only skilled and patient players will be able to gain all achievements. If you manage to get them all, then job well done. The videos in the guide aren’t mine, but are the only resource/help I could personally find to attempt the game.

After completing each level at least once, you will unlock this along with the last level you had done. How to use the videos: Start the video and watch closely at how the enemy is attacking and how the player positions the ship and satellites. Once the two orange lines cross eachother from top to bottom, pause the video. Try to mimic what you see for the most part, but sometimes you will be off a bit and have to do your own thing. Now, when you see two orange lines come from bottom and top and cross eachother in your game, hit start and watch the next section in the video.
This should help a lot, though you will find yourself dying a lot more than the video. Just keep at it, as this will still take huge amounts of practice.

Here is the hardest achievement to complete. You will have to complete all areas in adventure mode without a game over. The videos will help, but a lot of this is going to be your reaction time and memorization of patterns. Playing for hours will be needed in order to get good enough to accomplish this.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/i...0/+HSEbQ==.jpg Zero Deployments 5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Area cleared without deploying any satellites!

This one is really easy to do on area 1. Just don't hit the right analogue stick at all. With this in mind I still ended up hitting it on accident, so keep your thumb off it completely. Can be done in either mode, but I suggest doing this as your first achievement alongside completion of area 1. This way you aren't used to always using them.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/i...0/+ZR8-g==.jpg One Life Only 15 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Area cleared without losing a single fighter!

Best bet is to go with area 1 for this. Use your satellites to your advantage and be very careful. Watch the video closely and always remember to pause. You will have to remember the whole sequence in order to have an advantage!

Great job man. I wish there would have been a guide when i 200'ed this game, i played through on adventure mode thinking championship would unlock as well. :( I'd have to say the hardest level is level 3. if you can make it through that level losing only one life than you have a good chance of completing the game. This game is good but definitely frustrating and takes a ton of patience.

good guide for a great game. the key here, as in ikaruga, is memorization. and for that, the videos will help a lot.

and Jim, are you sure that beating levels on adventure mode donīt unlock the achievements for championship? i mean, i played the game ages ago, but i thought that getting all achievements in a single run was possible (in theory).

nope, you definitely have to go back and play all rounds in championship mode, it actually wasn't too bad after going through the entire game only dying a couple times, kinda like a light jog after running a 5 mile marathon lmao :).

Death Metal Jim 03-23-2010 11:08 AM

i forgot to put that this pertains to the "all championship areas are clear" achievement. The other DO stack up, but for some reason the championship one doesn't. I had already cleared level 3 on there since i had the most problems with that level so playing championship mode was quite easy after adventure.

velho lobodomar 03-23-2010 12:56 PM

yeah, after achieving "all adventure areas clear" the stages alone are a walk in the park.

amazing game indeed. already downloaded the original galaga, but this one looks like a breeze. specially when compared to legions :)

I would also like to point out that Nameco has a game collection (partially similar to Sega's) which includes over 30 games. The cool thing about it, is 9 of those games are full arcade versions. The game doesn't support "install to HD" but as long as you have the disc in, you can access those games from the arcade via dashboard. It comes with Pac Man, Ms Pac Man, Pac Man CE, Galaga, Galaga Legions, Xevious, Dig Dug, and Rally-X. So this disc packs 1800 achievement points! This will save you money if you haven't boughten close to all of them. I can buy it used for only $16! I suggest it to anyone and everyone on this site unless you hate arcade games of course :)

Awwwwww... I was going to post up my guide a long time ago but forgot. :(

Oh well. Anyways, nice guide Tyger. You might want to add to your guide that can call back your satellites by pressing the Left Bumper (LB). I'm still attempting to get my last two achievements.

Looks like the guide was published but not the roadmap. Wonder why not!?

Why is the achievement difficult rated 9/10 and 2/10? and What is the 9th arcade game included in the collection, you named only 8 and said there were 9 full arcade games...
