VERY convinced that Time Trial 16 is IMPOSSIBLE.
I tried to do it without cheats [like I did the rest], but I only got 68, you need 52. I tried and tried and tried. I gave in and started using cheats, and it STILL seems impossible. Anybody complete it and have tips?

FrozenImplosion 08-10-2010 03:17 AM

Forget it, I completed the freaking time trial, just in time to notice that ALL MY MEDALS ARE GONE ALONG WITH MY CHALLENGES. So much for Valve patching this bs... >_>

Namaste 01-25-2011 06:03 PM

Don't give up! I would also like to know how this is done as well.

AchievementMunky 02-28-2011 07:30 AM

Use the portal anywhere cheat and at the start of the lvl shoot a portal at base of door and you can get under it it saves like 20 sec on total time :) i have done it legit but took hours ugh never again lol

ONI recon 111 03-01-2011 10:12 PM

I gave up on doing Time Trial 16 long ago. I couldn't even get bronze without cheats, with cheats i barely managed to get silver, after many attempts.

d0ct0rscarecr0w 03-27-2011 06:45 AM

I was barely able too get this one, what's holding me up is chamber 13 step challenge I can't seem to get less then 12.

as for the deleting records problem it isn't a patch problem. What happens is the game DOES NOT auto save after you beat the level you must do a save on some random level just so that you can keep the score, then when you load the game back up you have too load that save and just go too a new game from there.

this took me a long time too figure out.

Vault Lad 04-24-2011 02:32 PM

After doing every challenge up till chamber 16 legit, I completely buckled.

I cheated like a mother-fucker on this one. I completely empathise.

I literally avoided doing the whole switch thing in the last chamber. The funny thing is though, It was still hard as hell with cheats. Barely did it in 51 seconds.

Have you seen the videos of people doing this legit though? They're fucking crazy, clairvoyance, there's no other word for it.

If you actually do it legit someday. Major props.
If you actually don't do it legit. Still props.

veece16 04-24-2011 03:06 PM

Chamber 16 was a bitch! (Even with cheats.) I would suggest using the portal anywhere cheat. :ybut::abut::bbut::abut::bbut::ybut::ybut::abut::d left::dright:

It's still hard, but it helps a lot.

XxSamuraiHeroxX 05-13-2011 12:30 AM

I barly even got a bronze with cheats that time chamber is frikin' bull crap

Lord Hypnos 05-14-2011 11:24 AM

Holy cow, that person is good. I used a similar video and saved throughout if my time was on par with it. The video posted above looks like it might be PC and not XBOX. Rest assured, that even with the clunkier XBOX controls, it's possible. I had to turn the "look" sensitivity up under options to get anywhere near close to the necessary speed. Other than that, it took a good few hours of trial and error.

not valve's fault, valve tried getting updates but microsoft and ea said no, fixed on pc though

Kisushima 06-28-2011 09:54 PM

Started this about 45 minutes ago. After 30-35 minutes of trying I got it. This is how:

This strategy is flawless. And the best thing about it is that you get 13 seconds lee-way! I just squeezed it in 52 seconds dead. It'll take a while to get used to how he does it, but start following it through, but slowly. Build up. And remember, if you hit a good time then mess up; kill yourself and load from the previous good time you were at!

P.S. This isn't a guy I know that I'm advertising, someone else posted his link on here somewhere. Good luck :).

Yes, chamber 16 was really hard, almost impossible, and the 20 seconds GLaDOS wastes talking made it harder.

Legendary801 07-14-2011 12:24 AM

I Promise I did it legit and it took months, Love Portal

The Taymanator 10-13-2011 12:01 PM

I understand that people don't want cheevos that are too easy, but come ON! It's just ridiculous that a majority of people have to resort to cheats just to get past it. I'm sure that I will end up being one of those that do...

Elmotheewokking 11-11-2011 04:21 PM

I just finished this one yesterday, took me three days to get all those golds and this probably the hardest of all, with the steps ones (all of them) coming second.
Either portal bump past the first door (I don't class it as cheating, it still unlocks the achievement and the time you gain is very handy), or run like a madman. I shaded it with a 52 second run.
Chamber 18 was almost as annoying, 17 you can bump too.

AtomicThumbs 11-15-2011 04:15 AM

You have to use the portal bumping glitch to get out of the first room while GLaDOS is talking. If you do it quick enough it gives you about a 20 second head start. For the rest of the level my strategy was to grab a cube and use it to knock over all the turrets while simultaneously blocking their shots. Even then I still managed to finish in exactly 52 seconds.

Namaste 01-09-2012 12:18 PM

Even with the glitches and cheats, is it still worth the time and effort?

Der Fuhrer 01-13-2012 10:45 PM

This one really did not seem hard at all, just use the portal anywhere cheat and portal bump at the beginning to shave 10 seconds of your time, save often and it was not a problem.

DerHirni 04-06-2012 02:46 PM

Use a video guide and save often. If you mess it up just a tiny bit, reload the save and try it again. That's all you need to know.

Radioactive Microbe 07-12-2012 04:00 AM

I actually did this without cheats.

It really isn't hard at all. but at the beginning, YOU HAVE TO PORTAL BUMP. AND PORTAL BUMP FAST. Seriously, practice it, make a save at like, 0 seconds in, and just practice it.

Artielang 03-01-2013 05:58 AM

For some reason the end of this trial they are adding like 30 seconds on. Am I being penalized for something?

Chaz Of Sparta 05-05-2013 09:11 AM

I actually found time trial 18 to be worse, I tried following the guides in youtube but could just not get within the time limit - I'd always be about 10 seconds off. In the end I used the portal anywhere cheat, but I did all the others without cheats. Time trial 16 was definetly doable in my opinion, you just had to think fast and use the portal bump glitch to give you a few extra seconds.

Fragarach Luin 10-19-2013 01:43 AM

I sympathize with you lot that cheated to get this achievement, but I'm happy to say I didn't. Not because I'm better than you. I'm just convinced that because of the time it takes to put in a cheat, and the extra time that it randomly tacks onto you because of that, cheating is approximately as difficult as doing them legit.
They're ridiculously hard, but not impossible. It really is all a matter of memorization, till you know where to put ever portal before entering a room. 16 is hard because there's really no margin of error, but I do think that 18 is the hardest, simply because it's so long. You need pure, uninterrupted perfection.

With guides and tips like this I'm surprised the game isn't rated 1/10 difficulty. I mean you practically did the achievement for me by posting something so useful!... :p

Multijirachi 10-27-2014 09:09 PM

The test chamber is still hard as hell though, never would I have thought Portal to be the game that breaks me.
