Achievement Guide & Roadmap

Overview:
-Estimated achievement difficulty: 7/10
-Offline: 22 (910http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.jpg)
-Online: 4 (90http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.jpg, Raw Rookie, First Time For Everything, Rolling,& Start To Finish)
-Approximate amount of time to 1000http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.jpg: 70 - 100 hours (depending on skill and luck)
-Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 7 (6 Classic Campaigns & 1 Remix Tour)
-Number of missable achievements: None
-Glitched achievements: None
-Does difficulty effect achievements?: No
-Do cheat codes disable achievements?: No

Introduction:
NBA Jam will not disappoint fans of the series, and even a casual gamer could get more than half of the achievements, especially if they have access to 3 controllers. Easy mode will work in both Classic Campaign and Play Now modes and should be taken advantage of by those who are going for the full 1000.

Part 1 - Classic Campaign:
In order to get all the achievements you will have to play through this mode a total of six times, once with a team from each division, this will likely be the most time consuming part. During your first play through you will get seven achievements with a total of 170http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png. Depending on your skill and luck you might pick up a few of the non-campaign/tour related achievements. Feel free to start a couple up early and experiment with teams that have stats that fit your playing style from different divisions. Through the course of your first full classic campaign you'll unlock several characters that might help you when you start doing remix mode. You don't have to do all six run-throughs before moving on, but I certainly recommend going all the way through at least once before attempting remix mode. Due to the easy difficulty being allowed during this gameplay mode, most players will be able to beat classic with little to no problem, but still don't expect to get Triple Up in this mode unless you are extremely good at this game. If you do all of one conference first, you will get 100http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png for your third run-through and 200http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png for your sixth.

Part 2 - Remix Tour:

This is going to be the toughest part of all. Really through all of this, you are just going for Three The Hard Way, but it is also quite possible and very likely to pick up Iron Will, Wrecking Crew, & Double Up and picking up all five will get you 270http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png. Restart match may be your best friend during remix modes, especially during Boss Battles. Some of those are the hardest, most frustrating parts of the game, in the 21 games, if the Boss catches fire before you've scored at all you probably want to start over. Feel free to search this thread for Boss Battle tips. Because this mode only has one difficulty, feel free to take a break from time to time to work on the remaining Classic play-throughs or move on to the next section. You will need to get 180/180 on the remix tour and you will face the Beastie Boys after the credits.

Part 3 - Online and Clean Up:
At this point you should have a good majority of the achievements and with the exception of Triple Up can conceivably boost the rest of them online especially while working on the ranked match achievements... feel free to use this thread to find people if you need to. The easiest way to find someone is to play solo match in 21 or an equally less popular play mode. Some people tend to say it's easiest to drop out of a game after 1 minute into it, giving the other player a win (or vice versa), but this doesn't always work. You might as well play out the matches or use this time to boost any of the achievements you can get from one match. The other good option involves having at least two controllers, preferably three and using what I call the Play Now method (set the 1st controller as the team you want to be. Then set the remaining two to the opposing team. With only two controllers you want to make sure that when the other players cpu gets the ball, you make him pass immediately). Remember to use the game settings from the player selection screen to change quarter lengths to your advantage (sometimes shorter, sometimes longer) and take advantage of the No Shot Clock trick in which you can run down the clock forever against a CPU team because they will not shove you as long as you are walking up and down the furthest point on your side of the court. These tricks make Clean Sheet, Double Up, & Triple Up much easier than they first appear. Of course, if you really want a challenge you can just go for them through the course of a natural game. Just remember, you can adjust settings and unlock privileges for play now that can be beneficial to the whole clean up process.

Achievement Guide:

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/+6f+rQ==.jpgRaw Rookie 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Play an online ranked match

Simply play an online ranked match, with friends or strangers. See Start To Finish.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/-CQc4Q==.jpgFirst Time for Everything 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Win an online ranked match

This achievement can be unlocked naturally or by boosting it with some friend online. See Start To Finish.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/-gUVVA==.jpgRolling 40 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Win 10 online ranked matches

Either win ten ranked matches naturally or boost this online with some friends. See Start To Finish.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/-+Xtxw==.jpgStart to Finish 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Win an online ranked match while leading after each quarter

Make sure that not only your team leads after each quarter but the player you are leads too. This one is probably best boosted with friends online. The easiest way to find someone is to play solo match in 21 or an equally less popular play mode. Some people tend to say it's easiest to drop out of a game after 1 minute into it, giving the other player a win (or vice versa), but this doesn't always work. You might as well play out the matches or use this time to boost any of the achievements you can get from one match.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/-ML5yQ==.jpgClean Sheet 50 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Win a Classic or Remix game without letting the opposing team score

This one is much easier than it sounds (especially if you have three controllers) use the Play Now method (set the 1st controller as the team you want to be. Then set the remaining two to the opposing team. This can still be done with only two controllers but you want to make sure that when the other players cpu gets the ball, you make him pass immediately). If you only have one controller, your best bet is to boost it online or using the fact that if you change settings from the character selection you can take away the shot clock. As long as you walk up and down the very right side of the screen, the Cpu will not shove you, just remember to score a few at the end of quarters. It seems that this one has to be done in 2v2 or remix 2v2.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/-SIBWg==.jpgToo Late 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Go up for a game winning dunk only to have time expire while in mid-air

You will actually have to lose the match to get this achievement, the easiest way to do this is to use the play now method (See Clean Sheet), score as little as possible and keep your team 1 point down. Make sure to go in for the dunk at the last possible second of the 4th quarter. If you only have 1 controller, you can try to get it naturally or boost online. Remember to adjust settings to fit your task and that when there is no shot clock you can avoid being shoved and run down the clock simply by walking up and down the farthest right side of the court.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/+Yb3GA==.jpgMojo 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Win a game with a layup buzzer beater

Refer to Too Late, but this time instead of losing with a dunk, go up for the lay up and win. I found it easier to use the right analog stick for the lay up but you can also easily go for a layup like you would a dunk, but while you're in the air just press :xbut: again.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/-pzsmw==.jpgFrom Downtown 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Score 50% of your team's points while only shooting three pointers

Make sure to pick a player with a high 3 pt score. You can use the Play Now method (See Clean Sheet) or just over the course of classic or remix campaigns (I did), just watch your stats and always shoot from behind the arc.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/-L3lLg==.jpgIron Will 30 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Break the backboard in a Classic or Remix game with an alley oop!

The easiest way to do this is in the smash remix mode, make sure your drone teammate has the ball when you are about to break the back board and that you slam the ball in. Some people are having trouble unlocking this in Smash mode, but the Play Now method (See Clean Sheet), will work too, as long as you dunk as much as possible in the first half and keep going for the layup in the second.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/-V0dvQ==.jpgFinger Roll 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Make 5 layups in a row without getting blocked

This one may be near impossible to do without boosting or using the Play Now method (See Clean Sheet). Remember to do the layup, do not use turbo. For some reason I found it easier to do Layups with the right analog stick, but you can also go for a lay up like you would a dunk, but while you're in the air, just press :xbut: again.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/+GYPiw==.jpgHe's on Fire! 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Hit a buzzer beater while on fire

This achievement should come naturally while playing but can also be boosted online or by the Play Now method (See Clean Sheet). Unlike the other buzzer related achievements this one can be obtained at the end of every quarter. If you are having a tough time with this one, wait until you've unlocked one shot fire. Remember Turbo is your best friend once you're on fire!

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/-cTkcg==.jpgBurning 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Keep yourself or your teammate on fire until it exhausts by making 5 or more unanswered baskets

This achievement should come naturally over the course of play, but can easily be boosted online or using the Play Now method (See Clean Sheet). Make sure no other player scores a single basket until this unlocks just to be on the safe side. If you are having a tough time with this one, wait until you've unlocked one shot fire. Remember Turbo is your best friend once you're on fire!

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/+LM4sA==.jpgWrecking Crew 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Beat Backboard Smash in under 2 minutes

You can obtain this one fairly easy if you play against a team with low dunk scores on remix mode. You can also just use the Play Now method (See Clean Sheet) except in Remix modes. I picked it up the first time I played a Smash match in the remix tour, just remember alley oops and dunks when you are on fire do some of the most damage.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/+pIxBQ==.jpgDouble Up 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Beat the CPU by doubling their score in a Classic 2v2 or Remix 2v2 game

The best way to do this is to play against the computer on play now mode. If you change settings from the character selection you can take away the shot clock and shorten the quarters to two minutes. As long as you walk up and down the very right side of the screen, the Cpu will not shove you, just remember to score at the end of quarters. This one shouldn't be too hard, I did it in a classic campaign game.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/5-+HC0A=.jpgTriple Up 30 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Beat the CPU by tripling their score in a Classic 2v2 or Remix 2v2 game

Refer to Double Up. Do not attempt in Classic Campaign or Remix Tour.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/5-5n89M=.jpgAtlantic Division Represent 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Defeat the Atlantic Division Legend Team in Classic Campaign

This will unlock after you beat the Legends Team of John Starks & Patrick Ewing the first time you play through Classic Campaign.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/5-xG+mY=.jpgCentral Division Represent 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Defeat the Central Division Legend Team in Classic Campaign

This will unlock after you beat the Legends Team of Bill Laimbeer & Isiah Thomas the first time you play through Classic Campaign.

Postmodernmartyr 11-19-2010 05:03 AM

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/5-2mAvU=.jpgNorthwest Division Represent 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Defeat the Northwest Division Legend Team in Classic Campaign

This will unlock after you beat the Legends Team of John Stockton & Karl Malone the first time you play through Classic Campaign.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/5-gE6Qw=.jpgPacific Division Represent 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Defeat the Pacific Division Legend Team in Classic Campaign

This will unlock after you beat the Legends Team of Chris Mullin & Tim Hardaway the first time you play through Classic Campaign

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/5-nkEZ8=.jpgSoutheast Division Represent 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Defeat the Southeast Division Legend Team in Classic Campaign

This will unlock after you beat the Legends Team of Dominique Wilkins & Spud Webb the first time you play through Classic Campaign.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/5-vFGCo=.jpgSouthwest Division Represent 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Defeat the Southwest Division Legend Team in Classic Campaign

This will unlock after you beat the Legends Team of Hakeem Olajuwon & Kenny Smith the first time you play through Classic Campaign.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/5-ol4Lk=.jpgClassical Completion 50 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Defeat the hidden boss after completing Classic Campaign

This will unlock after you beat the Stickman team once you have played through every other match in Classic Campaign the first time. Difficulty does not affect achievements so if you are going for the full 1000 make sure you are playing Classic Campaigns on easy.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/5-kC9Lc=.jpgEastern Conference Domination 100 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Face the hidden boss after Classic Campaign with a team from each division in the Eastern Conference

You must beat Classic Campaign three times, using one team from all three divisions of the Eastern Conference. You will get this after the final match of your third campaign. (See NBA Domination for more.)

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/5-jiDCQ=.jpgWestern Conference Domination 100 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Face the hidden boss after Classic Campaign with a team from each division in the Western Conference

You must beat Classic Campaign three times, using one team from all three divisions of the Western Conference. You will get this after the final match of your third campaign. (See NBA Domination for more.)

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/5-tc4eU=.jpgNBA Domination 100 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Face the hidden boss after Classic Campaign with a team from each division

You must beat Classic Campaign six times, using one team from all six divisions. You will get this after the final match of your sixth campaign. This one is going to be time consuming. Going through once can take up to nine hours. Here are some things to keep in mind. You can do this on easy every time... and why not, you are going to have to do it again and again. Don't delete completed saved games, they will help you keep track of what teams you have beaten it with. To help break up the monotony, I suggest you start at least one two player campaign with a friend to knock at least one of these divisions off in a different way.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...9/+VPAIw==.jpg3 The Hard Way 200 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../site/gp-g.png
Defeat Beastie Boys in Remix Tour

To unlock this you, will need to get 180/180 on the remix tour and you will face the Beastie Boys after the credits. This is going to be one of the toughest achievements in the game. Make sure when you start your remix mode you have practiced enough with the team you have chosen. Some of the Boss battles are going to be incredibly tough, especially the games of 21. Make sure to get a good start and don't hesitate to restart the match if your opponent catches fire. See this thread for any additional boss strategies.

I'm reserving this spot just in case major changes occur.
This is my first achievement guide and I'd love comments, suggestions, additions, and corrections... all criticism is constructive

At this point I am missing Western & NBA Domination, which are all just a matter of time.

Thanks for putting in the time, It's appreciated.

I'm very glad :woop:

I wanted to give back to this site that I love so much, so hopefully after I make all revisions I'll submit it and make it final!

nice guide/road map

Daaanty 11-19-2010 04:20 PM

Thanks for this guide. I didn't realize this game was going to take so long. Guess I was wrong haha.

Pashos 11-19-2010 07:47 PM

For the Finger Roll achievement, you can go for a lay up like you would a dunk, but while you're in the air, just press :xbut: again.

For Clean Sheet, if someone doesn't have extra controllers, playing a game of 21 will be easy to shut them out. Just make sure you score the first points, and then you will start with the ball every time. I used LeBron James on the Miami Heat, made the first basket, and then I just shot a 3 pointer right away and it went in every time, especially once you're on fire.

edit: Clean Sheet method actually doesn't work.

Thanks for the addition to Finger Roll, seeing as you are way more qualified at this stuff than I am...

I'll add a little bit about the 21 trick for clean sheets, I know I myself have done it this way a few times, but I still think the no shot clock, with the trick to never get shoved is the best way to get this one with only one controller.

Plus, you can get this, Double Up, and Triple Up in one match if you want.

I tried this last night in a Quick Match game of 21 (Mark Price 3 Point GOD) but it didnt unlock. So do I have to do in during the ReMix mode?

Actually, now that you say that, I don't think I got the achievement after that. I played a game of 21 like you did, not in the Remix Tour, expecting to get the achievement, but I didn't. Sorry about that. :o

The Shot clock trick still works wonders!

i used the 4 controller method, but i did it again with the shot clock trick. definitely a good idea.

True will do this going forward but wanted to attempt the easier quicker method to see if it works (it doesn't)

Also has anyone been able to get the unlimited Turbo and 1 basket Fire mode for beating the game with a team from each conference in the East and West respectively?

I would imagine that it would make the boss battles so, so much easier if we could add them/activate them.

If not then they will be the last thing I do (stupid Karl Malone was kicking my ass)

Also any tips on a decent team (with unlocked characters) would be good to use in Remix? I attempted with Utah since Okur is great at the 3, Malone is a bull and there are other weapons to bring in if needed (defense, another range shooter, etc) but with the boss battles I think this team would die (already have against Malone..)

I started a game as the Nuggets for lack of knowledge about anything basketball, I've just loved the Jam games since the beginning...
I have been doing fine at all the remix games, but the Karl Malone Boss Battle is one of the most ridiculous things ever....
DON"T LET HIM CATCH FIRE! Restart if he does.
Throw elbows right behind the three point line to knock him away and fire...
I beat him this way eventually.
As for the turbo and one shot fire... well I'm close to unlocking the fire, but my fear is that this will work both ways (as in previous versions of this game) and would make Bosses near impossible.

I made a thread for people to share boss strategies and linked it in both the road map & guide, please anyone who has beaten any of the Bosses in remix tour contribute if you can.

I don't think it would work both ways. Since its a "unlockable" for you that you had to earn (not a cheat code) it would be really, really, really annoying if I did the work but then it works both ways. I guess we will find out shortly.

One shot fire and infinite turbo do not work in remix tour.

Dumb question but how do you play against a friend in an online ranked match? The only option I see to invite someone is for coop.

You have to search for them in Solo Match. When I boosted it, we just searched for 21 and we found each other immediately almost every time. There was only one time where we kept getting matched up with other people, so we waited a minute or so for the two guys we got matched with to get in a match against each other and then we found each other again.

Good job. Thanks

Postmodernmartyr 12-07-2010 09:38 PM

Thanks for all the support and nice comments :)

It's getting close to time to submit and I would love for any and everyone to give it a reread and give some corrections and additions...

Also, if any of you were playing this during the free gold weekend and got completely devastated by Denver, I'm sorry :nana! I don't have a mic, but hearing some people's death cries were hilarious!

ofay 12-08-2010 07:52 PM

When going for NBA domination you say dint delete saved games, as long as you keep track can you play over the same file and the game recognizing your progress?

Postmodernmartyr 12-08-2010 08:12 PM

I don't have any proof of it, but I'd imagine it doesn't matter... I just recommend you don't delete them for ease of remembering...

aB1s 12-18-2010 09:41 PM

Great guide! Thanks!
