Quest - A Cure for Vampires

Quest - A Cure for Vampires
There are a number of ways to iniate this quest. Here is how I did it: I went to Cheydinhal's Chapel of Arkay, though any chapel should do. Talk to someone in there about a cure. They will start you on the quest.
The first step in the quest is to talk to Raminus Polus about a cure. You can find him in the Arcane University located in Impereal City. He will tell you a bit about it, and refer you to Count Hassildor. You can find him in Skingrad. Talk to his stuard, then eventually he will talk to you. He will tell you about how he and his wife are vampires, and while he lives with it, she could not, and went into a coma. He needs the cure to get her out. He then tells you about witches long ago who could do it, and about one of them which may still be alive.

You can find the witch along the Corbolo river, which is east of the Impereal City. Here is where the fun begins. Before she will help you, you have to help her. She requests you bring her five empty grand soul gems. These are tough to find, and this is where your Thieves guild work is going to come in handy. Before working on this, go get some lockpicks from your fence.

Gem One: This is an easy one. Go to the Impereal City Market District. Find the Mystique shop. He has one gem for sale. Four to go.

Gem's Two- Four:Your lockpicking skills better be up to snuff now. Head to Arcane Univerity. Best to go at night, you will be theifing. Go inside, and on the first floor there is a chest with three Gems inside. All are Grand gems, but I believe two of them are not empty. Take them all wayways. Its a level 5 lock, so your going to have to work at it, but its worth the effort. Make sure no one sees you. Once you get it open, take them all.

Gem Five: Head to the Chorral Mage's Guild. Inside, there is a staircase, and display cases to the left and right. The one to the right looks tempting, three gems inside. None are grand though, save your picks. The one the left has one though. It's another level 5 lock, so good luck to you. Once you get this, you have five, but two probably aren't empty. No matter, the hard part should be over.

Gem Six: Head to the Bruma Mage's Guild now. Walk straight in and slightly to the left into their little shop. If the shopkeep isn't there, wait for her. When she comes back, barter with her. She's got an empty gem. If you don't have money, you can try to pickpocket it off her, but I found it easier to just buy it.

Gem Seven: Head to the Cheydenhol Guild now. To your left and down the stairs, talk to the shopkeep. Same as before, buy it, or try and pick it from her if you wish. Congradulations, you now have your five emptys, and your probably a pro at lockpicking by now.

Go visit Melisande again now. She will take your gems, but you aren't done yet. She says she can probably make the cure, but you need a slew of ingreadiants. She asks you to find six Garlic Cloves, five Nightshade Leaves, 2 BloodGrass Shoots, The Blood of an Argonian, and the dust of the vampire Hindaril. Collect the first three items first. Much like the gems, this can be quite tedious. Below you will find locations for all the ingreadiants you need.

Garlic Cloves: These are fairly easy to find. Many Alchemy shops, Inns, and Mages Guilds have them. Just work your way from shop to shop until you have six. I know that the Alchemy shop in the Impeareal City has one. I also found two in an Inn in Chorral, and they restock every few days. This should not be to hard.

Nightshade: This proved to be the hardest. First, head to Impereal City, to the same Alchemy shop you got your Garlic. She should have two. After a few days, she will restock one more. After that, she will have no more. That gives you three. A fourth one can be found from the shopkeep in the Corral Mages Guild. Go purcahse that. That leaves one more, or two if you do not feel like waiting a few days for the Impereal City shop to restock. For these you will be hearding to Cheydinhal. Quick travel to the west gate, and then exit the city through the west gate. Turn to your left and follow the cities wall until it ends. Now look to your left, you should see a large right with a tree to the right of it. Next to that tree, you will find a Nightshade plant. To your left, there is a lake, and you should see some old pillars across the lake. Swim across to them. Now face South, and follow the edge of the lake until you come to a tree with small rocks on either side. You will find a couple different plants up against the tree, one of which will be Nightshade.

BloodGrass: This is the easiest part of your quest. The Alchemy shop in Impereal City has four, so buy two of them, and your done. If you are feeling like that was to easy, this stuff is all over Oblivion. Enter a gate and grab some. Your choice.

Blood of an Argonian: Melisande gives you a special dagger or this. You don' need to kill them, just give thema good stab and hide so the gaurds don't nab you. For those of you who don't know, an Argonian is the lizard looking people.

Hindaril's Vampire Dust: If you are at a decent level by now, this should be a breeze. At level 5, this was a cakewalk. Go to the location on your map. It is pretty straightforwared navigating your way there. Once inside the cavern, you will have a few things to pick off before you get to your vampire. I ran into a few rats, a few skeltons, and two lesser vampires before I got to him. I made short work of them all. Hindaril was the easiest of them all though. He did not use a weapon at all, he tried to kill me with his fists. I made short work of him. Maybe I just got lucky, but this was far from difficult.

So, you now have everything. Take it all back to Melisandre. She will tell you she can prepare the cure, and to come back in 24 hours. This is it. Go enjoy your last night as a Vampire. Feast on everyone you can get your bloody hands on. Then go take a nap. The next day, pay your friend a visit again. The cure will be done. Feel free to drink it. You are now officially cured, but your quest isn't over. Remember the count? Head back to Skingrad and pay him a visit. You will be taken to the place where his wife rests. Melisandre will be there also. After a bit of dialouge, he gives her the cure, but it kills her. He requests you give him 24 hours to greive. Go back into the Count's Mansion and just wait for 24 hours. Same as before, talk to the Count. He will thank for you putting his wife at ease, and reward you with 500 gold. The quest is now officially complete.

I had to do this quest a few days ago, and I tell you, this help woulda been GREAT when i was doing it, cause finding those gems and whatnot were a PAIN IN THE ASS..

poqow 04-02-2006 02:43 AM

I think I'm screwed... I turned into a vampire and in the process of this quest.. I guess i turned completely.. because I can't talk to vendors anymore and can't buy the garlic -_-

Am I actually screwed? Or anyone know where i can steal some garlic?

RoutineX 04-02-2006 01:40 PM

Same happened to me, but just go to Skingrad.
People have it in the houses and/or basements. :D

Theres an enchanting spell you get as a vampire that u can use once a day that if u use it on someone, MOST of them will talk to you..

poqow 04-02-2006 04:07 PM

Alright, will try both of those suggestions. Thanks you two!

KillarPenguin 04-03-2006 01:25 AM

Or you could just go find a beggar at like 2 in the morning, and feed on him. That seeemed to work for me to get people to talk.

poqow 04-03-2006 10:40 PM

unfortunately im part of the thieves guild and that could probably screw me over by feeding on a beggar =/

und3adillusi0n 04-04-2006 04:26 PM

good post sci0n this helped me a lot thx!!!!!!!!!!

snafegeeza 04-04-2006 05:35 PM

Another easy gem is in the witches basement, through a trap door in her fire place. Its next to a bowl of gems on a table (not in the bowl). Do it while shes asleep or she'll be pissed that your thieving off her. There are also loads and loads of potions down there for you to pinch too.

skuff 04-06-2006 09:55 AM

do you have to have done any other missions before you can activate this? went there last night talked to about 10 peeps in the church, but nothing about a cure?

xDoSx VaNGuArD 04-07-2006 12:11 AM

so does this quest completely cure you forever? if so im kinda pissed cause i didnt know that :(

i've completed all the achievement quests and want to become a vampire again.i've contracted the disease and waited 3 days then tried to sleep but it wont turn me into one so i guess i can never become one again huh?

KilluhKam 04-09-2006 03:19 AM

im bein smart...i got the disease but ima wait till i get all the achievement's (i need 5 more) then ill become a vampire :)

Sebastian55 04-09-2006 04:56 PM

I'm on this quest and I can't tell you how much this is going to help... A LOT! :) Excellent post Sci0n!

reymundo514 04-11-2006 08:14 PM

When you feed on people, they don't die. So you don't have to worry about being kicked out of a guild or anything. Feeding also lessens you vampiric symptoms so after feeding people will talk to you and you can walk around in the day light unharmed. You also lose most of the stat bonuses too.

Finding the gems is definitely the hardest part of getting cured. But if you're a member of the mages guild then you can open a bunch of display cases with some in them. There's also a guy in Chorral that can sell you some.

I don't think the cure works forever. I got the pre-disease again after I got cured but got rid of it with a cure disease potion. I think if you become a vampire again, the witch will just give you more cure.

stankit 04-27-2006 10:48 PM

damn, being a vampire sucks - especially when you go into the witch's house and they say i broke into her house (the open symbol was white) so i cant go in there without her threatening to get me jailed and if i cant wait inside her house and i cant fast travel because its daylight

and also, anyone desperately seeking nightshade, go to main ingredient in imperial city, when i went, the guy had 5 of them

anthony 05-10-2006 06:04 PM

witch will not take my bloodgrass.she keeps asking for more ingredients the only one she has not taken is bloodgrass i have 4 but she does not take them from me,WHY

dodgethis 05-22-2006 08:11 PM

yeah me to she took everything off me but wont take the bloodgrass i have 2 but when u talk to here she tells me to find the rest of the ingredients.
wtf is this a bug as this has happened in harluns watch were there is no body on the floor, so i cant complete the fighters guild and now iam stuck as a f**kin vampire.
any1 have an suggestions

Winwood 05-23-2006 02:40 PM

Yeah I'm in the same boat as you dodgethis - hopefully the patch will fix this. Anyone know when it's coming out? Or for that matter when the orrery and horse armour will be released in Europe?

Tonedefex 05-23-2006 11:20 PM

Thnx for the post. Started this quest last night. Gotta admit that being a vampire sure made the Dark Brotherhood quests take on a whole new meaning, lol.

Webb 06-16-2006 05:20 PM

Maybe a stupid question.... But how do you know if you've become or are becoming a vampire?

snafegeeza 06-16-2006 05:44 PM

You will get a msg on screen, babbling some nonesense but you'll get the jist of whats happening. Then for each passing day your symptoms will get worse with more msgs on screen, and eventually nobody will talk to you and you cant go outside. Its crap really, I would avoid it at all costs if I were you. ;)

Webb 06-16-2006 05:46 PM

LOL, I don't think i've been bitten yet :D Can I use a simple spell to stop it getting worse if I do contract it though?

The vampires can't get close to me at the moment ;)

snafegeeza 06-16-2006 05:50 PM

I think you can use the strong potion of cure disease, will only work 24hrs after you got it though. I was too late with mine.

NinjaFighter202 06-26-2006 09:26 PM

i cant find the soul gems ill keep searching though is there any other way to cure this disease?

Butters 07-04-2006 06:58 AM

I had a thought that maybe if i get the cure, would i be able to help the orc grand champion out at the arena, just a thought, saved game before killing him so i got ach. but could cure him if it works, anyone tried it?

Muta32 08-06-2006 03:19 PM

If you have feasted upon a mortal you can walk around outside all you want for 24 hours before you start to take damage from the sun.

I'm an Argonian so the look of my face doesn't change that much after a few days without blood.

People I usually feed on:
The beggar near the thieves guild guy in the Imperial City Waterfront district (I haven't been kicked out for it) at about 3am

My crew an expert trainers on my pirate ship (thieves den download)

I don't think the cure is worth losing your abilities...but thats because I'm stealthy

xMc Nuggetz 08-09-2006 10:21 PM

Confused, please help!!!

Great guide, real helpfull, thing is i messed up somehow. I've done everything up to the soul gems, and i've been to all the places to get them, but i only have 3. Each of the spots indicated to go to for the gems i have been back to atleast 3 times already, and i cant seem to figure out where the heck the other two went. Is there another 2 gems that i can find in place of the two that have mysteriously gone missing on me? Please Help!

xMc Nuggetz

singingbush 08-15-2006 05:24 PM

does becomming a vampire cause problems for mages guild + fighters guild missions? am fairly new to oblivion so don't know much about this stuff yet.

Fire Mage 08-15-2006 08:04 PM

I'm happy I went through the whole game (getting all achievements etc) without becoming a vampire.

It would've been somewhat a hassle to do the quest. Though when I played it at my friends house on his computer (before buying it for 360) I did the quest.
