Movie refrences

Looks like this one is going to be full of classic movie references like the first, only got to the first boss and already they got in a Predator reference. See you at the party richter!

Edit: Also post any pop culture references including music, tv and any thing else you can think of that made you laugh.

GDMFS0AB 06-07-2011 04:15 PM

Yeh Twisted pixel seem to be good at that. Comic Jumper was full to the brim with movie quotes & references.

Away to play the beta now.

EDIT: Half way through the second level. She says "I'll never let you go Jack". Which will be from Titanic.

UnarmedReaper07 07-14-2011 07:32 PM

In the prologue the giant robot smashes through the wall and says "Here's Johnny!" This is probably from the Stephen King movie "The Shining".

D347H0FL0V3 07-14-2011 09:17 PM

The achievement What Did You Do, Ray? is an obvious Ghostbusters reference.

It's possible that I just misheard, but I believe he said "Heeeeeere's Johnny...Five!", making it a double reference to both The Shining and the robot from the Short Circuit movies.

Also, when the robot first arrives he says "I'm your boyfriend now!", which is a quote from A Nightmare On Elm Street. I love these little things they throw in, unlocked the full version today and am loving it!

Edit: She's just said "Nobody puts baby in the corner!", which is from Dirty Dancing :p

Pyrlaster 07-15-2011 11:12 AM

She just said for me "WHO SAID YOU COULD HAVE MY COOKIE!!!"

gazmaster1 07-15-2011 09:17 PM

level 2-1 at the beginning is directly lifted from total recall

Didi Mau 07-15-2011 10:03 PM

Without spoilers seeing as the game is still quite new, the final boss contains a classic quote from The Running Man, and I'm fairly certain the death scene for the second boss is supposed to be a homage to Terminator 2 (which was quite clever of them, seeing as the boss doesn't have hands :p).

Burgon 07-17-2011 02:33 PM

Just had her say 'I'll have what she's having' which is from When Harry Met Sally, i think.
And 'Take my breath away' is a song from Top Gun.
'You had me at hello' from Jerry Maguire.
'I'm ready for my close up, Mr De Mille' is from Sunset Boulevard.

Mil 07-17-2011 08:34 PM

She also says 'I'll never let go, Jack!" from the Titanic

Songs:
Poker Face - Lady Gaga
Single Ladies - Beyonce
Diva - Beyonce
Vogue - Madonna
Like a Virgin - Madonna
Wannabe - Spice Girls
Hollaback Girl - Gwen Stefani

and i'm sure i'm missing some others

McGoogles 07-17-2011 08:50 PM

The little robot says "Don't touch my cookies!" or something along those lines in a notably obvious Arnold Schwarzenegger voice; referencing Jingle All the Way.

DarkJake 07-17-2011 11:38 PM

"Just a Girl" -- No Doubt
"We R Who We R" -- Ke$ha

Rydeen 07-18-2011 10:39 AM

"Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?" is a song by Paula Cole

Rydeen 07-18-2011 03:37 PM

"Consider this a divorce" - Total Recall
"Some women arent meant to be tamed" - Sex & the City
"I'm not bad I'm just drawn that way" - Who Framed Roger Rabbit
"You complete me" - Jerry Maquire

TheHatter 07-18-2011 06:55 PM

Pretty sure she says "I'm not bad, I just splode that way" but the reference still stands.

Also, she does the Carlton dance from Fresh Prince.

DemonDuffeh 07-18-2011 07:14 PM

She says 'As you wish' from the princess bride and sings 'one of these days these boots are guna splode all over you' lol but she also sadly sings 'I whip my hair bk and forth' y twisted pixal y it is now in my head wenever i play this lol

Didi Mau 07-19-2011 10:17 PM

"Snozzberries? Who ever heard of a snozzberry?" is from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and she does a brilliant Veruca Salt voice to go with it :p

There's also "I must break you" in the final boss' mid-match screens, which is appropriately from Rocky IV. And as it hasn't been mentioned yet, the intro to level 2-1 with Mandy is a reference to Total Recall.

The funny thing is, I re-read the posts twice during my post preview to make sure it wasn't already posted haha :p Silly ol' alcohol.

Here's another one then! The timed bombs that you sit on have saddles on them, making it a likely reference to Dr. Stangelove where Major Kong straddles and rides a launched H-bomb like a rodeo cowboy.

SonOfStayPuft 07-24-2011 07:45 PM

There's a couple more Ghostbusters references.

A box pops up at some point telling you about your Ghost, and it says "I AIN'T 'FRAID OF NO GHOST"

There's also a Banner on Level 1-1 with "Conglaturation" on it, which is an obvious reference to the main spelling error that comes up at the top of the screen that appears after you complete Ghostbusters on the NES.

NoThru22 07-26-2011 07:27 PM

Usually, along with "Consider this a divorce" she says "You're fired" from True Lies. She also sings I'm Just a Girl by No Doubt. Also, after she sings "If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get my friends" she says "Ew."

She does the Macarena.

Dude! Great find! I didn't even take the time to really look at the banners. I just thought they were all generic "CONGRATULATIONS!" Great eye.

Whiistler 07-27-2011 08:28 AM

There's a "Mission Accomplished" sign in 1-1, same style sign that was on the air carrier Bush gave his speech on when he was talking about winning the war/war being over.

DemonDuffeh 07-27-2011 07:20 PM

In world 3 if u breack open box's in the scenery different characters from other games come out such as swamits from swarm :)

Liquid-X 07-28-2011 03:58 AM

If you travel along star road long enough, Twisted Pixel takes a hillarious shot at Capcom, referencing when Capcom's mobile division ripped off 'Splosion Man.

Haha, cheers mate :)

I also spotted another reference. Not a Ghostbusters one, but a reference all the same.

I think it's on Level 1-5. (it's one of the 1- Levels anyway)
Right before another section of jumping on the hovering ships, there's a cutscene where it shows a Scientist flying a ship close up, and he starts humming a tune.
The tune he's humming is the Dallas Theme Tune (It was a massive show in the 70s, incase any of our younger Gamers here were wondering).

jd070993 08-10-2011 12:04 AM

Is the quote "Don't go chasing waterfalls" a reference to anything? Ms Splosion Man keeps saying it, and I know I've heard that quote before...

EDIT: Never mind. It comes from the song "Waterfalls" by TLC. Knew I heard it before :p

PrinceRules64 03-27-2013 03:51 PM

Good lord. Trying to recognise all the references and nods in this game is a game in itself. And they're fantastic.
(And this is one of the best topics in this subforum)

jswartz0181 08-23-2013 10:51 PM

I know it's a bit of necro, but since nobody has said them:

TV/Movies:
  • "No Whammies! No Whammies! No Whammies! Stop!" -- Popular line from the game show Press Your Luck.
  • "Jammin' on the one. J-j-jammin' on the one" from an episode of The Cosby Show with Stevie Wonder.
  • "I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy" -- Notting Hill
  • "Sit [Booboo], sit! Good [boy]!" -- The line of the closing tag for Ubu Productions shows.
Songs:
  • "All that she wants, is another baby" -- All That She Wants by Ace of Base
  • "Girls just want to have fun" -- Girls Just Want to Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper
  • "Straight up now tell me" -- Straight Up by Paula Abdul
  • "All the single ladies" and "If you like it then you better [sic] put a ring on it" -- Single Ladies by Beyonce
  • "Hit me baby, one more time" -- Baby One More Time by Britney Spears
  • "One of these days these boots [is] gonna [splode] all over you" -- These Boots Are Made for Walkin' by Nancy Sinatra
  • "[Splo-splo-splodio], oh oh " -- Sussudio by Phil Collins
  • "Baby baby, ooo baby baby" - Push it by Salt-N-Pepa
  • "Whatta man, whatta man, whatta man, whatta mighty good man. Mighty, mighty good man" -- "Whatta Man" by Salt-N-Pepa ft. En Vogue
  • "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir?" -- Lady Marmalade by Patti LaBelle
  • "You're the one that I want" -- You're One That I Want by Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta from Grease
Misc:
  • "Toasty!" -- Mortal Kombat
  • "En Fuego" -- Sportscaster Dan Patrick catchphrase
  • "Shut the front door" -- PC version of STFU, popularized by Stacy London
And, there's one..... is she saying what I think she's saying? "I've got pussy power!"
