The Cursed Crusade is a hack and slash set in the time of the Crusades, when religion was best spread by weapons - in the 13th century that is. It is a low-budget game with surprisingly decent presentation, enjoyable combat system and an interesting story told in long cutscenes. The achievement system is pretty simple. During the story you will unlock story-related achievements. Based on your story progression and performance - measured mainly in finding collectibles - you get Victory Points that can be used to raise your character’s statistics and improve your techniques by learning new moves for each weapon/weapon combination. Mastering your weapons and maxing out your character in each statistics will net you most of the game’s achievements. For the remaining few you need to find coffers and crucifixes (they are the game’s collectibles) or perform some relatively easy tasks (such as blocking 30 times).

The Cursed Crusade needs to be played through twice. You can start on the easiest difficulty (Crusader) and then try your luck with the most difficult one (Nightmare).

First Playthrough (any difficulty possible, recommended is Crusader)

During your first playthrough try to get all the collectibles to max out most of the weapon techniques as well as your character's statistics. Most of the story achievements are unlocked by simply playing the game, but there are two missions (Chapter 2 - Mission 4 and Chapter 4 - Mission 2) with specific requirements for the Slow and Steady and the Innocent Blood achievements respectively.

The rank you get for a level is not relevant for any achievements. On most of the levels you also need to purify a given number of souls in the nightmare world. Though there is no achievement for the souls neither, if you complete this task there is an additional Victory Point you get after the level. Since you will have to go through the game once again on Nightmare anyway, you will get plenty of Victory Points without these extra ones as well. Nevertheless, if you want to max out your weapons earlier, keep purifying the souls on each level.

Second Playthrough (Nightmare difficulty)

When you complete the game once, the new difficulty becomes available. Simply choose Continue Game in the main menu and start replaying all levels on Nightmare. You can keep your upgraded stats and weapons for this run. There are also new Victory Points that the game will give you after each level. They will enable you to max out the remaining weapons and statistics.

There are only two missions that can cause you pain, The Path to the Great Palace (Chapter 4 - Mission 4) has an annoying boss fight and Inside the Fortress (Chapter 5 - Mission 1) puts you into small spaces with a lot of enemies. Do not forget, if the current objective is not to kill all enemies (e.g. on Inside the Fortress), you can always avoid fighting and just run. If you skip all movies and keep fighting to the minimum necessary, you can breeze through the game in 5-6 hours.

Mop up

As all chapters can be replayed at any given time. If you still miss something after the second playthrough, restart any of the missions to unlock the remaining achievements.

Though the Cursed Crusade does not have any glitched achievements, several gamers have reported gamebreaking issues that prevent you from loading a new chapter. Mostly the problem comes up in Chapter 4 - Mission 2. It is currently not clear what causes the problem and how to resolve it. A possible solution can be to go online and wait for someone to play the mission together with you. According to some gamers the broken mission have loaded successfully online. As hardly anyone plays the game online, try to use the forums here to find a partner.

Clear "Towards the Peninsula" without losing any of the soldiers pushing the ballista

"Towards the Peninsula" is Mission 4 in Chapter 2. In the beginning after a bit of fighting you will be told to protect the ballista and the two soldiers pushing it. It is easier on the lower difficulties, but if you make sure not to let anyone near the soldiers or when they get attacked you switch to "nightmare mode" for quick kills it should not be too difficult on the higher difficulty levels neither. When one of the soldiers gets killed you will be asked to jump in to push the ballista, that is when you know you failed and have to restart the mission to try again.

Perform a 100 hit combo.

Your combo meter increases with each consecutive hit. If you get hit by an enemy the counter is reset at once. The good thing is that if too much time passes by between hits the meter will only start to decrease and not reset. Nevertheless, the problem is to get enough enemies together for 100 consecutive hits.

At the end of Chaper 2 - Mission 6 you can use a trick to unlock the combo achievements relatively easy. When you fight the boss in the nightmare world he can be hit, but not hurt. He only takes damage once you purify all the summoned souls and the fight switches back to the real world. What you should do is to clear all but one blue soul while in the nightmare world (preferably one far from the boss), then stun the boss and you can hit him as many times as you want afterwards. Use double swords and the combo http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...ges/misc/x.pnghttp://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...ges/misc/x.pnghttp://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...ges/misc/y.pnghttp://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...ges/misc/y.png, even if the swords break. Thanks to jaycee88 here is a video showing you the fight:

If you decide not to use the trick above, try to get the achievement using a broken sword (they do minimal damage) on a level with a lot of enemies.

All weapon based achievements can be unlocked in a similar way. First of all, you need to pick up the respective weapon (in case of dual wield both of them, e.g. a shield and a longsword) to learn the ability to wield and use them. The Victory Points you get for your performance after finishing a level can be distributed among your weapons' techniques. Each new attack costs one Victory Point, there are between 6-12 different types of attack per weapon.

From the weapon upgrade screen press LB to come to the menu where your character's statistics can be upgraded (Strength, Armor, Weapon, Constitution and Templar's Curse). Each completed level gives you one Victory Point you can enhance your statistics with. Simply buy all 8 upgrades for the respective skill and press B to go back to the game to unlock their achievements. When all five statistics are maxed out "One-Man Army" unlocks as well.

This achievement can only be obtained during your second playthrough on Nightmare. Replaying the same level on the other difficulties will not give you additional Victory Points to distribute, you must play on Nightmare.

and just to be sure...

cra 09-28-2011 09:32 AM

we are champions kommt nach chapter 1 mission 3
a templar rides into the forest kommt nach chapter 1 mission 5
make the voices stop nach chapter 2 mission 8
purifying fire in chapter 1 mission 6
roar of flames in chapter 2 mission 9
slow and steady is chapter 2 mission 4

olcsi2 09-28-2011 01:47 PM

scorpy78 09-28-2011 04:29 PM

does it really need 35+ hrs to complete? I have my doubts, but I could be wrong

Wirklich über 35 Std. um es auf 1000 zu bringen? Ist das Spiel so lang? Hat es von euch schon jemand durch und wie lange ungefähr?

AirborneRichard 09-28-2011 05:20 PM

Hey nice guide! I,m amazed someone already made a guide for this, its just been out in stores in germany (lucky me living close to the border) because here they not even have this game in stores yet, let alone in their computer systems. I know its still work in progress but still keep up the good job :) This def helps already.

cra 09-28-2011 05:33 PM

hm if you play without a guide i think 20h would be ok since 5% of the collectibles are placed in annoying corners you won't discover if you don't search thoroughly.

i am just rushing through nightmare and made it from prologue to chap 2-7 in 1,5h. so maybe you need 15h if you use the guides and have the skill in this kind of game

olcsi2 09-29-2011 11:05 AM

I just finished the game yesterday once, took me about 8-10 hrs. I still need to find some collectibles, but once the guide is complete, the two playthroughs can go down to the range of 15-20 hrs. The playthorugh on Nightmare I cannot judge yet, if its really easy with all the stat boosts, then it is 15 hrs, if somewhat trickier then it will be more like 20.

Lucki88 09-29-2011 06:44 PM

The fight were you can get the 100 hit combo is in Chapter 2 - 6 ;)

kinjoking 10-04-2011 05:36 PM

really looking forward to this, i never even heard of it until today, and now i get to sink my teeth into more rpg goodness, hopefully itl be 2 player online co-op also.
il play this for a week until ace combat AH comes out along with dark souls! woop woop!

Drizzt1987 10-04-2011 05:40 PM

yes. you can play coop (splitscreen or LIVE). but i could not find anyone to try that.

it is not a rpg. it is a hack & slay game with some rpg elements.

this game is far from good or an rpg. it is an hack n slay to the core with some bugs. my advice stay away from it and play something else until dark souls

Could you clarify the 100 hit combo trick please when im fighting death in the nightmare, it just randomly ends the fight and dosnt even go back to fight him in the real world as you suggest.

Have I got the correct place here?

That's really weird, my game is stuck at exactly the same point. I've sent mine back to where I bought it from however for a refund. What a crap game to have such a bug in it. Let me know if you have any luck fixing it.

Also, I have to ask, does your game have the music and sound muted when you boot it up as mine keeps resetting the sound options everytime it hits the menu screen.

Weird. I wonder why our games are doing this but other people have completed it fine. Really annoying when it cost full price too and we can't even fucking complete it.

jaycee88 10-11-2011 05:00 AM

A video for the 100 hit combo if the guide writer would want to use

olcsi2 10-12-2011 12:23 PM

Thanks jaycee, I am gonna add the video.

Thanks and the rest should be coming this week

jaycee88 10-22-2011 01:43 PM

Its weird how you need to watch the credits for nightmare to unlock

Trucido 10-28-2011 02:14 AM

Thank you for this Guide and Roadmap. It has been extremely helpful in progressing through the game. If only they would patch some of the bugs ...

Best Regards,

Gamertag: Argead

aginore 11-26-2011 12:10 AM

Thanks a lot for the guide, was a great help. Just finished and it really is a shame that the camera is often the bigger enemy than the enemies themselves

Somehow my nightmare playthrough went way better than the crusader one. Just stayed in distance from the enemeis and used the curse magic whenever possible.
