Alien Breed 2: Assault Achievement Guide & Road-Map (+Spoilers)

This Guide is my First and was made Using re-edited tips & info By & Giving CREDIT to:

-There are 12 achievements with a total of 200:gsicon:.
-Estimated achievement difficulty: 6
-Offline: 9(140)
-Online: 3(60)
-Approximate amount of time to 200: about 8-10h
-Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 1
-Number of missable achievements: 2 (Logs & Secret collectibles)
-Glitched achievements: 3 "Super Sleuth, Praemonitus Praemunitus & The Best of the Best".
-Do cheat codes disable achievements: No Cheats
-Does difficulty affect achievements: Yes
-Unobtainable achievements: No
-Extra equipment needed: No

Introduction:
Welcome to Alien Breed 2: Assault.
This is the second episodes of the Trilogy(available from XBLMP/Trilogy disk).
This is a shooter played with duel analog sticks with an angled overhead third person view.
Overall the game is not really difficult.

Step#1: Elite/Rookie Playthrough
First thing you want to do is choosing whether to play on Rookie and hopefully get "Deadly Assassin, Cash is King, War of Attrition, Primed & Old Soldier" or fight your way through Elite to get "The Best of the Best" aswell.
Either way you will receive most of the singleplayer achievements, just be careful with collecting the Logs and secrets as some are missable and you have to start the level over if you miss one.

Step#2: Multiplayer Co-op
There are 3 Achievements to get in co-op "Rapid Deployment, Indestructible & Co-op Campaigner",
so find yourself a good buddy with whom you already played co-op in AB1 and/or other games or you can look in the "looking for Co-op thread".
Take your time and decide who loots as you can't trade items.
If you want to practice your skill in working together, either start a co-op mission or practice you skills in co-op survivor(note that you can't unlock the "Survivor" achievement in co-op).
Mission 1 is quite easy, but you could try to get "Rapid Deployment" on mission 3 during your first try.
Even if one of you goes down, you get to know the level and do better next time.

Step#3 Survivor Missions
There is a great Strategy that works by entity81.
Also "Deadly Assassin" can be unlocked here.
Although you can play survivor in co-op you can't unlock the Achievement as its for single player only.

Step#4: Mop up
At this point you either have to replay single player on Elite to get "The Best of the Best",
replay from memory or start again on Rookie for "Praemonitus Praemunitus" or try to get "Vital Statistics, Cash is King, Deadly Assassin & Super Sleuth" in Free play.
If you missed logs and don't have the level saved, you have to replay the campaign as you can't collect them in free play, however you don't have to collect all of them again.
You need only the ones you missed before.
Secrets however are collectable in Free play.

Conclusion:
If you have any skill in duel stick shooters this will be quite an easy 200 to achieve especially if you've completed AB1 or played Zombie Apocalypse and the like.

Avatar Awards!
There are two usable Avatar awards.
Barnes's helmet = Kill 50 aliens**
Body armour t shirt (male) = Complete all single player levels 1-5
Body armour t shirt (female) = Complete all single player levels 1-5
**first 50 kills only, nothing to do with "Deadly Assassin" achievement.

Complete all single player levels 1-5 on Elite difficulty

If you completed the first game (Episode 1) and know what your up against, Good luck, otherwise I'd suggest playing on rookie to get to know the levels and the trigger points first.

*This achievement has not unlocked for some gamers, one reason could be is that if you play mixed level(s) offline/online in one playthrough it won't register as a whole comlpetion, if this happens for you try playing the level(s) again from memory saves or try Elite in free play, otherwise start a new game.

Kill 1000 aliens in single player

Unmissable, you'll get this by or on level 3.
Also kills are stack-able if you complete the first level a few times, but I'm not sure if the kills from multiplayer carry over.

Finish 'Primed' single player level with a score greater than 300,000

Best way to get this is by exploring every room to kill every alien in the level.
Note: Any damage you suffer is deducted from you overall score.

Find all secret collectibles

This Achievement has been unlocking at different times for some gamers, if you don't get the achievement on the fifth secret start a free play mission on Rookie to collect each of them again until it unlocks.

These secrets are distinctive as they are rotating TEAM17 logo's
There is one secret per level and they are as follows:

1. Ignition: (Spoiler)
This secret is located in a tunnel under the floor by the console that is used to call the platform to cross the water at the begining of the level.
To get it you must progress a littleway through the level to unblock the water flow, after the small room explodes you open a tunnel leading you to the next area, fix the valve to stop the Radiation vents with the cash & corpse on it, cross over & go up the slope where you'll find yourself in the room on the other side of the small room that exploded, there you will see a slope going down (not the one Conrad opened earlier) follow the tunnel up and turn right and the secret is at the end.
but make sure you get it before you set off the explosives (the slope Conrad opened earlier) to progress the level otherwise its unobtainable.
There is however a YouTube video by entity81 on how to get this secret.

2. Rendezvous: (Spoiler)
This secret is located in a locker room on the left just after you raise the middle Bridge(middle of the map).
To get it you must progress through the mission until you reach the reboot console in a room with two Sentry turrets, destroy the turrets, reboot the system and take care of the horde, then go through the double doors that's between the turrets and turn left where you will see two red Gas cylinders, shoot them to reveal a corridor with more red gas cylinders, keep shooting your way through to reach the secret in the locker room.
There is however a YouTube video by entity81 on how to get this secret.

3. Escort: (Spoiler)
This Secret is located in the Habitation control room with the spiky motor in the middle that you activate before you take the alternate route to get MIA, to get it you activate the Inspection arm power control console in the other corner of the room as you entered, then use the Inspection arm console by the motor to raise the platform it's on.
There is however a YouTube video by entity81 on how to get this secret.

4. Primed: (Spoiler)
This Secret is located in a tunnel behind the lift you start in, to get to it exit the lift and shoot the gas cylinders to progress through the single door that had electricity across it, then take care of the next room and go through the opposite door and to the scan room waypoint then retreat back to the previous room and go through double doors that was to the left with the power point the way is now unblocked so go around to the door to the tunnels, make you way through until you come to a single door to your left before/not by the next waypoint, enter the room and turn left and you will see a rocket launcher by the table and chairs shoot the glass to the right to get to it and a door will open up in the wall, go in the tunnel turn right and the secret is there.
There is however a YouTube video by entity81 on how to get this secret.

5. Corrupted: (Spoiler)
This Secret is located in the room with the 6 Big Rings that form a Tunnel with a walkway going through it, to get it cross the walkway to the other side to the double doors, but DO NOT GO THROUGH THE DOORS INTO THE NEXT ROOM otherwise its unobtainable, once there look to your left and you will see a lift, to activate it use the power console on the right, then use the lift to go down to the side walkway, it's at the end.

Collect all the logs throughout the game

The logs are as follows: (Spoilers)
You Start the game with 3/17 logs.
You can check by pressing :back: then press :rbbut: for Logs.

Levels:
Ignition = 7 logs.
1. MIA: You Start game with this Log.
2. CONRAD: You Start game with this Log.
3. Preface: You Start game with this Log.
4. Larval Blast: In the room behind the caterpillar fork truck where Conrad opens the first slope, you can get it after you get the breaker fuse to get the power on,
when you enter the room you get a cutscene, its visible to the left as you entered the room.
5. Mauler: Easy to get, go through the double doors by the slope pick up the key open the next double doors & its in front of you with the Generator console.
6. Healer: Further on in the level after you open the three flood gates you come to a room with a narrow corridor, it's in the opposite corner from the door you entered.
7. Octo-Morph: from the last log go through the narrow corridor to another room it's right of you as you enter.
#7/17 Logs.

Rendezvous = 5 logs.
8. Screamer: As you start the level walk up the corridor and around to the double doors, is on the left on top of a crate.
9. Stunner: After you raise the gantry in the green smoked Cargo room, it's between the larvae eggs by the exit.
10. Ranged: from last, go through the Scan room, go Right you'll see a body in the laser doorway shoot the turret and through the door behind on the left, it's on the other side of the room.
11. Boney Shield: From the same Scan room as last, go left up the corridor, in the first door on the right, it's on the left side of the engine.
12. Ens. Vance III, W. C.: After you clear the gas filled room with the green ring presure pad go in the next room with the egg's, it's in the first room by the Power Point, on the right of the lockers.
#12/17 Logs.

Escort = 1 Log.
13. Webber: After the Habitation control room, you have to take an alternate route to MIA's rendezvous point because an explosion, follow the way point to a room with an Intex save room in the corner, the Log is on the floor on the right as you enter the room(save room to the left).
#13/17 Logs.

Primed = 2 Logs.
14. Capt. Wentworth, D.: After you collect the commanders Head, you get to go through the security scan room that you couldn't at the begining of the level, you will see it on the floor to the right as you enter the room.
15. Arachno-Morph: After Arming the self-destruct and collecting the remote, you make your way to the monorail(next waypoint), it's in the middle of the room, make sure to pick it up before you get on the monorail(cutscene) otherwise its unobtainable, unless you exit the game and continue.
#15/17 Logs.

Corrupted = 2 Logs.
16. Klien, P.: This one is in the power control room in front of the lift at the start of the level, you will need the key-card by the elevator to get in, you will see it on the floor as you enter the power control room.
17. External Defense Systems (EDS) report.: To get the FINAL LOG you must progress through the level untill you reach a room with a Red Ring pressure pad in the middle on a raised section on the floor, as you enter turn right and go through the first door to the next room, follow the walk way to the lower floor and it's in front of you on the floor.

Kill 50 aliens in a row in single player without taking damage

Fairly easy one to get, especially for the experienced players of Alien breed ep1.
Can also be unlocked in the survivor strategy. see "survivor" for details

Achieve a balance of 20000 credits or more

Best done on Rookie on Corrupted Mission in free play.
Don't buy anything from the intex shop unless you have to & use what you've got wisely & you'll get this in no time at all.

Stay alive for 8 minutes on any of the Survival mode single player levels

Here is a way to do it on Tribulation:
Exit the elevator & pickup every last weapon in the start room.
keep in mind when entering the doorway you want to have your assault rifle ready.
Entering the doorway will start the clock, so just run straight up & you'll run into the hyper blaster(ammo is 500) & pick up the other items around the room keep in mind they re-spawns there every wave,
or sometimes just a little bit before the next wave.
Note: You want to start using your hyper blaster around the 4min mark.
The 1st wave is just Larva sploders, melee will do fine until the 2nd wave.
Doing this can get you the "Deadly Assassin" Achievement while performing this strategy.

NOTE#2: This is going to be your defense position.
As soon as you enter the doorway make a right run till you come across two burning pipes,
stand in the middle of the pipes & wall & move your camera angle with the left RB to get a good view
now that's going to be your defense position.
The aliens will be mostly coming from the direction of the doorway you've entered & to your right of the pipe that's on fire will protect your flank so you can focus your fire mostly towards the doorway then grab what you can before the next wave.

Complete any multiplayer level

Finish multiplayer level 'Cargo' without taking any damage

One person essentially needs to tank & block all damage to the other person. First room stay at the back of elevator & the tank basically kills the waves. meleed the larvae & then grouped up the larger aliens with the assault rifle. Essentially, the person who is going for the no damage run has to use the hardened armours. There are 4 in the level but 3 are on the easy path to the elevator. The first one is clearly visible after the elevator. The 2nd is in the room just before the second bridge. The 3rd is in the 2nd shop & costs 2000 credits. To do this achievement you need to know the spawns as it helps a lot. Also the person going for the no damage should collect a large amount of stun grenades & save it for the final room as you wait for the elevator as this is probably the hardest part of the level due to the lack of ammo + large waves. This achievement is pretty aggravating so good luck!

Complete multiplayer level 'Cargo' in 10:00 or less

This Achievement should be the last one you get, if you did "Indestructable" with a friend you should both know the level very well & have no problem getting this.

Here is a (Part Re-edited and up-dated by myself) list by (cra From AB1) about your friends and enemies and Bosses in Alien Breed 2: as well as general Information on how to play on Elite at the end (by cra).

Doors:
Yes simple doors are one of your best friends.
If you face a large group retreat and wait for them to pass and you have a high chance of killing aliens with one shot from the shot cannon if you wait around the corner of the door.
Ranged attacks won't hit you if the door is closed so use them to your advantage.

Frag Grenades:
A real underrated item. You can control the throwing distance by holding http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...es/misc/lt.png. If you throw it short be prepared that you are also damaged.
If you are in a narrow corridor and a horde advances throw a Frag and watch the firework and several aliens are eliminated as well.

Stun Grenades:
Another underrated item. Like the Frag you can control the throwing by holding http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...es/misc/lt.png. If you throw it short you too can be stuned so be prepared.
Ideal for slowing down large hordes and giving you time to kill them with a Frag or flamethrower.

Sentry Guns:
They can only be placed in specific spots in missions by holding http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...es/misc/lt.png until deployed (Note: An attack will stop you deploying). Once active they kill every alien around them.
Be careful as friendly fire damages you, but if you want to conserve ammo it is good to retreat and let the Guns do the work, while you are watching.
However once you enter the other ship destroy every sentry gun you see that you didn't place, because you are the primary target for the guns.

Blaster Pistol:
You have infinite ammo for this weapon, so if you encounter larva's switch weapons to conserve ammo.
Also if you have to destroy Gas tanks or sentry guns use the Blaster.

Pulse Rifle/Assault Rifle:
Don't try and act like Jon Wayne and go trigger-happy.
Fire controlled short burst to conserve ammo and use it as main weapon with long corridors or rooms which are larger.

Shot Cannon:
On Rookie you can kill everything with one shot, on Elite you need to be quite close and aim carefully.
Best used in small rooms or ambushing aliens behind doors.

Flamethrower:
Short range but quite devastating.
However if several aliens are on the same tile and you hit them with the flamethrower it seems, that you don't hit all of them at the same time.

Hyper Blaster:
Another great weapon like the Laser Rifle, again ammo is expensive and there's not allot to find in the game.
Shots bounce off walls and deal great damage compared to the Pulse Rifle.
If you get into a large ambush, this weapon is again a good choice.

Rocket launcher:
Yes you get one of these, and one shot will make a mess of everything around the blast area, ideal for taking care of Sentry turrets and hordes at a distance.
Ammo is very expensive and rare to find, so use it wisely.

And here are your enemies:

Fire:
It really hurts when you get caught by flames and you suffer damage for about 3-4seconds after you've been ignited.

Electricity:
This will hurt when you get too close, but it only damages you when in contact.

Larva's:
Small, quite fast over distance and if they explode near you it hurts.
You can prevent them of exploding if they get in your torchlight.
But be quick to kill them. They are only dangerous if they are mixed in large assaults and rush in from behind.
Even if they have not much health.

Mauler:
Standard enemy, which is brown.
They have a distinctive sound as they walk towards you and only attack if they can reach you.
They can take several hits with the Assault Rifle and 1-2 from the Shot Cannon.

Screamer:
The first variant of the Mauler you will frequently encounter.
They are green and unleash a distinctive howl/roaring before they charge you or where you've stood as they roared.
Can be dangerous in dark rooms as you can't see which type it is and the distance they can leap is quite large.
However you can interrupt them if you hit them with a weapon.
Assault Rifle preferred for long-medium distances and shot cannon if you can lure them to a corner or door.

Ranged:
The last variant of the Mauler. They are grey/black with red parts.
They spit acid spikes which are really damaging.
It is recommended to take them out first if you have a clear line of sight.
When you have to fend off a horde attackers you won't have the time to foresee the shots and dodge them accordingly.
Lure them to a door and kill them with a clean hit from the shot cannon.

Healer:
They look different with 4 solid legs and a quite flat body with a glowing abdomen.
If you let them they heal the other aliens, but can also attack with claws.
Fortunately they can't take much damage and are a high priority target.

Boney Shield:
A variant of the healer which can deploy the front legs/arms as a shield which can't be penetrated by bullets.
In general they are not really dangerous but annoying as they can block your movement and bullets meant for the other aliens.
Frag Grenades are great to deal with them once they play turtle.

Stunner:
They are not really dangerous, but can stun you, so that you are really vulnerable for a few seconds.
Use a shotgun or flamethrower to kill them quickly.

Webber:
Related to the Stunner but attacks with adhesive fibres from spinners(like a spider) instead to slow you down, quickly kill them the same way as the stunner.

And here are the Bosses:

Octo-Morph:
This is the first Boss you meet in the first level. This creature is like the moss creatue from the previouse episode, yet like the name suggests it has long agile barbed tenticles as hard as diamond which should be avoided if possible.
Beware this creature can use it's suroundings with devastating effect & it spits corrosive acid as a special attack. To quickly put this Boss away deal a fast & hard attack with the Assault Rifle to its face when it's defence is down, having the Damage upgrade makes this quicker.

Arachno-Morph:
This unique adaptation like most of the breed seems arthropoidal with a chitinous exoskeleton with multiple joints suited to the monorail's system tunnels and is the boss fight at the end of mission 4.
Quickly shoot its mantable legs to get it to show it's head and shoot it in the face or It'll call for more wave of aliens to the monorail carrage. Best weapon to use is the Hyper-blaster.

General Information for playing Elite:
While exploring new areas the first time, proceed slowly and don't panic if you trigger the ambushes.
During the first missions you should move back and shoot controlled bursts.
Sometimes ammo can be a bit low, but as a general rule before you fight large waves of enemies make sure you find enough ammo.
If you reach an intersection always sidetrack and explore the areas you don't have to go to yet.
Often you find ammo or health kits and you can kill a part of the aliens you would have to face with additional groups once you have to actually to do something there.
Be careful before you activate switches or loot lockers/corpses.
The aliens are triggered by stepping on areas and are time-based.
Example: you have to activate a gantry.
You are standing next to the control panel. ~3seconds after you reached the panel, aliens will break through the floor & walls behind you.
It doesn't matter if you activated the panel or not.
Take your time and wait to see if something tries to ambush you if you have to use a control panel to advance.
Get used to the different weapons, how long you need to reload and how often to press http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f...c/leftdpad.png and http://www.xbox360achievements.org/f.../rightdpad.png to get the weapon you want and :dup: and :ddown: for grenades and health.
After you finished a fight reload the weapons you used as it is annoying and painful e.g. to reload the shotgun with 5 Maulers around you.

Ok! I Think I've completly finished this guide, but I felt I had to move it to this new thread with Firefox to finish it as I couldn't put the Cover Pic & Achievement Logos in with Microsofts IE & I couldn't correct the Thread heading, I'll delete the old thread when I learn how to.

As you know this is my first guide for this game and I hope it helps the rest of the gamers out there to get they're 200G.
