Thanks to The Nonexistenc, and LoreEater for tips, and thank you Tyger7 for all the help! Very much appreciated!

Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion XL is a brawler game, much like that of the Super Smash Brothers series, popular on Nintendo consoles. Originally on the Nintendo DS, Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion was such a success that they decided to bring it to consoles, landing on the PS3, 360, and Wii, this time bearing more characters, levels, and assists. The game features many Cartoon Network favorites, such as Johnny Bravo, Ben 10, and Samurai Jack, and throws them into battle, where each character fights to win using attacks, items, assists, and the notorious Punch Time Explosion. With a sturdy Story mode, a ladder arcade mode, and multiple local multiplayer gametypes, Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion XL is a great addition to the Xbox 360.

The lengthiest part of the game is the Story, which can be completed within 6 hours, if that. I suggest you play on hard, as its not much more difficult than easy. It may give you trouble around a few parts, but hang in there. Experienced Super Smash Bros. players will quickly get the hang of this, and should breeze through story. After that theres quite multiplayer achievements, but all can easily be done within an hour and a half.

Story Mode (19 achievements for 520)<Recommend 1 playthrough>
Before i start explaining the story, I want to share my controls. The controls when you start are iffy, and you have to go out of the way for some of the commands. I found my set up easy to use, and it being based off a lot of aspects of Super Smash. This is optional, I just think it would help some people.

:xbut: - Grab/Pickup
:ybut: - Attack
:bbut: - Sig Attack
:abut: - Attack
:rbbut: - PTE Attack
:rtbut: - Shield
:lbbut: - PTE Attack
:ltbut: - Jump
:back: - Switch/Catch-Up (Co-op)

The achievements for story are pretty simple. Most cannot be missed, one is for beating the game, and another for beating the game on Hard, which i suggest you play on first. The game is pretty straight forward. The game is mostly "Get from point A, to point B," with a few 1 on 1 or 2 on 1 battles thrown in the mix, and a dash of 2 protecting missions as well. You are awarded points for each level, which you can use to buy new levels, maps, clips, and costumes. I suggest you focus on Story Mode first, and dont spend any points until you get the "Its over 9000!" achievement.
That being said, I would also advise you to kill every enemy you can on each level, and be as cautious as possible, to try to net as many points on each level until you get the "Big Money!" achievement, for getting over 1000 points on any level. After that, on any level that isnt a battle, I suggest blasting right through the level, ignoring any enemies. The game will go by a lot faster.
Some levels have an achievement tied-in with the level, such as beating the level under a set amount of time, or completing it without dying. I would suggest to ignore these until after youve completed story, when you can play them on an easier difficulty, and after you unlock the necessary characters.

Multiplayer (26 achievements for 315)
This will be the most repetitive part of the game. Most of these require you to win a certain amount of matches with a character, in a certain costume. It can be a bit tedious at times, but 10 matches will only take 15 minutes using a method ill post a little further down. Other achievements are for activating a certain assist with someone, or against someone, or for killing a certain number of people with someones Punch Time Explosion, or PTE.

Miscellaneous (5 for 165)
Everything you do in the game will net you Points. With those points you can unlock characters, levels, costumes, and clips. Unlocking all the characters, levels, and costumes, will each unlock you an achievement, while storing over 9000 points at once and getting over 1000 in a single level will both unlock you the last 2 achievements.

Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion XL is a fairly easy game for the 360, and should not be too much of a hassle for an average gamer.

Story Mode Achievements: Couch Potato 100 :gsicon:
Beat Story Mode

Simply beat the Story. The story has achievements for beating all levels within a certain "show", all of which are impossible to miss. The story is not too hard, and i would suggest doing it on Hard. This should only take about 6 hours, if that. Chowder Fan 10 :gsicon:

Beat Story Mode on the Hard difficulty setting

Hard is not too much harder than Easy, and i would suggest playing on Hard on your first playthrough. After you get the "Big Money!" achievement, I suggest running past every enemy that you dont have to fight. You may need those lives later on. Save your PTE for when you have to kill X amount of enemies to progress, and take your time on the Battles. Dont rush yourself, and learn the moves of both your character and your opponents. Use your PTE against an opponent who has just spawned to set them down another life. A PTE used on an enemy with 0 damage will probably lose a life by the end of the PTE, so dont waste a perfectly good PTE on an enemy who has 200 damage.

This can be unlocked via Level Select after youve beaten the game. Replaying each level on Hard will still unlock you the achievement. Frenemies 30 :gsicon:
Defeated Kevin boss using Ben without dying

Ben 10, stage 3
You must beat this level with Ben, without dying. I played on easy. Kevin will do a series of attacks, and eventually get his hand stuck in the ground. He has 3 attacks. One that sweeps the lower level, one that pillars into the sky, and one that shoots 3 balls of fire. The two flower platforms are your biggest friend here, camp on those until he gets close, and then jump to the other one. Make sure youre ready to block after you jump, because he usually shoots 3 fireballs after you land. When his hand gets stuck, swoop in like a hawk and give him hell. Once its unstuck, back to the flower. Repeat until hes at 50% health - This starts stage 2 in the fight.
There will be pink shields to hide behind for this part, use them! youll be safe as long as you stay behind them. When they shatter and appear somewhere else, either dodge roll your way to them, or jump to them. Dont walk, theres a chance you could be hit hard. When his hand gets stuck in the shield, attack! repeat this again for the other hand, and when his head gets stuck, jump to the first platform, jump upwards and do his up-standard attack. Samurai’s Journey 35 :gsicon:
Defeated Aku boss using Jack without dying

Dexter, stage 3
You must unlock Jack first, then replay this mission. I suggest playing on easy. There are 2 parts to this fight. During the first, avoid Aku until he either turns into a ram or a bird. If he turns into a ram, wait up on the upper platform for Dee-Dee to grab him, he will charge 4 times until she does. If he turns into a bird, he will sweep across the stage, alternating from the upper part to the lower part. just make sure you are on the opposite level that hes on. After 4 sweeps, Dee-Dee will grab him, keep attacking him until she lets go. Rinse and repeat.
Stage 2 is far simpler. There will be bombs on the left side, pick them up and throw them at aku. If hes hit, he will bow his head down, and thats when you should attack. Keep attacking, and when he lifts his head, go to the left side again and repeat. Eventually, the glass around a lever on the left side should break, activate that and Aku will die. Professional Hero 50 :gsicon:
Defeated the Final boss without dying

Final boss, stage 1
You must beat this boss without dying. I used Captain Planet, and played on easy. Once you know his moves, youll know that hell mainly use a spiny move, and a forward claw strike. Whenever you know its safe to attack, do Captains forward-signature attack. Once you get him down to a low enough health, hell fly away and start to regenerate, and Father will start to fight you as a distraction. Jump in the air, and do his up attack on the boss in the background, and ignore father. Once all his tvs are knocked down, hell come back to fight. repeat the cautious forward-signature attack, and keep your eye on Father. Once the boss is down to a certain health, Vilgax will come out while the boss heals. Focus on the boss. When he comes back down, WATCH OUT. THERE WILL BE PITFALLS ON THE MAP. If you fall into them, you die. Captains Forward-signature move is now pretty much useless, and its not worth the risk of using. Attack with either standard attacks, or with his down-signature move while above the boss. It shouldnt take long for this part, but watch out for those pitfalls.

Tip from The Nonexistenc (Thanks!):
Monkey's forward attack (where he spins wildly) is GREAT for Professional Hero. It takes off major damage off the final boss. Only issue is that it's hard to redirect him away from the pitfalls. Monkey's spin takes so much damage, you can pretty much ignore whoever the boss summons to fight you while he's flying in the background.

An alternative method is to use Jack. Forward attack will allow you to go back and forth between the boss, taking off health and allowing you to build meter (just don't do it when the boss is doing that spin attack). Whenever he flies into the back, just use the PTE on whoever he summons and it's practically guaranteed to kill them. By using Jack, I didn't even lose my life in that fight even on my Hard runthrough. It’s Hero Time! 20 :gsicon:
Won the Bellwood fight in story mode with Ben or Young Ben in under a minute

Ben 10, stage 1
You must beat this stage in under a minute, while having Ben or Young Ben in your party. This one gave me quite a bit of trouble. What i did was played on hard, and hid near the lower left balcony. Buttercup will occasionally kill herself, while trying to kill you. Dont worry if you lose some lives, and every now-and-then, jump off the edge, but give Buttercup an opening to attack you while you fall. Sometimes shell charge off with you, and follow you all the way down. Freedom!!! 20 :gsicon:
Won the Toadblatt’s level in story mode with Grim in under two minutes

The Grim Adventures, stage 2
You must beat this level in under two minutes. I suggest playing on easy. You are forced to use Grim, and how i beat the level was by hanging on one of the 2 platforms on either side of the map, and doing my forward-signature move towards the outside of the level. Usually, Billy and Mandy will get hit and eventually fly out of the map. Repeat 3 times, and the achievements yours.

Easter Bunny 00 11-28-2011 11:00 AM Like a Hoss 30
Won the Endsville Cemetery level in story mode with Hoss Delgado without dying

The Grim Adventures, stage 3
You must beat this level with Hoss Delgado, without dying. Far easier than it sounds, you must only kill a few zombies in this level and the achievements yours. Keep your distance between the zombies when youre not attacking, and continuously do your forward-signature attack. its a Chainsaw that will deal a decent ammount of damage. After 2 or 3 hits, roll away. Although i did it on Hard, Easy would be a surefire way of getting this achievement. Adventure! 30
Won the first Flapjack Pier level in story mode with Flapjack and K’nuckles in under three minutes

Flapjack, stage 2
You must beat this stage in under 3 minutes, while playing as Captain K'nuckles or Flapjack. I suggest playing with Captain K'nuckles, as I find his forward-signature useful in the fight. Try not to die during the first part when the pier is collapsing, just make sure you know its coming, and dont go out of your way to kill Vilgax or Numbah One during this part, it wont even matter. Once youre on the ship, their lives appear. Captain K'nuckles PTE is good here, if you use it when Vilgax and Numbah One are right next to you. Its an explosion which will definitely kill them, but you only get one shot at it. Flapjacks PTE sweeps across the screen and will definitely kill both of them, but I find Flapjack difficult to use in this fight. S.E.C.T.O.R. V. 20
Completed Kids Next Door Platformer under 5 minutes

Kids Next Door, stage 1
You must beat this stage in under 5 minutes. You are forced to choose Numbah 1, and i would highly suggest Aku to be in your party as well. He has 4 jumps, plus his up-sig move. Keep pushing forward, and avoid all unnecessary fights. Dont wait for platforms to move across, with Aku you can make the jumps. There are a few parts where you have to kill enemies, during the first part, kill them and save the PTE for later on. At the end, when you must kill 10 enemies, use Akus PTE, Its very helpful during that last part. Just keep pushing forward, and save the PTE for the end. I cut it close with a time of 4:57, so this could be tedious.

"Points and Unlockables" Achievements Cartoon Collector 50 :gsicon:
Unlocked all characters

This is unlocked for buying all characters out of the store. Most characters cost 1200, while a few cost 1500. There are 8 characters, for a total of 10500 points.

Get points faster:
This seems to be the fastest way i could get credits. Go to Battle Mode, then choose Custom Game. Just put the stock way up, I did 30 and i usually got 1300 points for each match. That being said, you could probably get more than 4000 for doing 100. I found 30 just right.
Choose Powerpuff Girls first stage, and as soon as Mojos Robot destroys the other buildings, just keep throwing them off the edge.
If you need a Synergy related achievement, such as Johnnys or Bubbles, choose them, and choose either Dexter or Chowder with your second controller (for achievements on using a certain assist against them) or use one of the match-ups listed in "Vengeance of Vilgax" to get the most out of the fights. I recommend saving your credits until youre over 9000 for an achievement, then spend away.

You are awarded:
40 points per Kill
-20 points per Fall
1 point for every energy pickup

100 stock game, no deaths, only grabs, 1v1 - 4000 pts
*Thanks LoreEater for mentioning the points!

I suggest holding out on purchasing anything until you unlock the "Its over 9000!" achievement. Costume Collector 30 :gsicon:
Unlocked all costumes

This is unlocked for buying all costumes out of the store. Each costume costs 500. There are 26 costumes, for a total of 13000 points.

See "Cartoon Collector" for point grinding tips.

I suggest holding out on purchasing anything until you unlock the "Its over 9000!" achievement. Unreal Estate Collector 40 :gsicon:
Unlocked all arenas

This is unlocked for buying all stages out of the store. Each stage costs 1000.
In total it will cost 5000 for all stages.

See "Cartoon Collector" for point grinding tips.

I suggest holding out on purchasing anything until you unlock the "Its over 9000!" achievement. Big Money! 20 :gsicon:
Collected 1000 points from a single level

Playing a long level, such as KND stage 1, will increase your chances of getting a lot of points. You get 40 points per kill, and -20 points per fall. Every energy you pick up will give you a point, so pick up as many as you can. Take your time and kill as many enemies as you can. This should come very early on. It’s over 9000! 25 :gsicon:
Collected 9001 points

You are awarded points for every mode in the game. 40 points per kill, 1 point for every energy pickup, and a time bonus for every level you complete in Story. This is not cumulative, so you must have 9001 or more in your bank at one time for this to unlock. Simply dont buy anything until you get this achievement.

See "Cartoon Collector" for point grinding tips.

"Synergy, Kills, and Wins" Achievements: “Yes!” 5 :gsicon:
Activated Ben’s synergy assist

Synergy achievements:
You do not have to finish the match for them, and i would recommend going for them while grinding points. Just make sure you have enough lives to get the achievement, because assists are random. Choose a map, i used Fosters Second level. 2nd controller is not needed, but it will make things simpler.

Activated achievements-
All you need to do is activate them with a certain character. Use:
Johnny Bravo

Assist achievements-
For these you must use a certain assist against a certain character, they are:
Deedee against Dexter
Mandark against Dexter
Panini against Chowder

Kill related Synergy-
You must use a certain character, and amass kills while during the synergy. Use:
Father, 1 kill
Aku, 2 kills
Captain Planet, 2 kills Disco Fever 10 :gsicon:
Scored two consecutive knockouts using Captain Planet’s synergy assist

See "Yes!" Flame Broiled 10 :gsicon:
Scored a knockout using Father’s synergy assist

See "Yes!" Meet My Beautiful Wife 15
Activated Scotsman's PTE and Peppermint Larry’s Assist in the same fight

For this achievement, you must be playing as Scotsman, and activate his PTE, and during the same match activate Peppermint Larry's assist. I would suggest using the same method as in "Yes!", just make sure you activate a PTE as well.

Easter Bunny 00 11-28-2011 11:28 PM Vengeance of Vilgax 5
Won five fights as Vilgax against Ben and Young Ben

Fast fights:
to get the most out of these fights, I will list who you use, and who you must be against. Start up Custom Game, put time at 10 seconds OR stock to 1, and choose Ben 10's first level. Simply pick them up and throw them off the edge. 2 controllers are needed and sometimes 3. this will only net you 40 or 80 points, so I dont recommend doing this for grinding points.

Bubbles, costume 5, against any powerpuff, 1 match.
Blossom, costume 5, against any powerpuff, 1 match.
Buttercup, costume 5, against any powerpuff, 1 match.
Him, costume 5, against any powerpuff, 10 matches. (2 achievements)
Mojo Jojo, against any powerpuff, 10 matches.
Aku, against Jack, 5 matches.
Jack, costume 5, against Flapjack AND Captain K'nuckles, 1 match.

Easter Bunny 00 11-30-2011 07:39 AM Ugly Finish 20
Scored four consecutive knockouts using Kevinís PTE

PTE achievements:
If you have enough controllers, i recommend using them. 2 is enough for most, but 3 and sometimes 4 is better. You only need 4 for one achievement, but it makes it easier. the characters to use are:

Captain Planet, 3 simultaneous knockouts
Toiletnator, 2 simultaneous knockouts
Dexter, 2 (simultaneous) knockouts
Kevin, 4 simultaneous knockouts (lasts for a while)
Jack, 5 kills AFTER activating, just dont die.
Billy and Mandy, 4 kills AFTER activating, just dont die.
Scottsman, activate PTE and activate Peppermint Larrys assist. Easiest with 2 controllers.

Tip from LoreEater: If you play the final stage in Samurai Jacks story mode, you can get PTE achievements easier there against normal enemies. I can confirm this works, as thats how i got Kevins achievement. Chicken Ball Z 20

:)Thanks for the respect note

When you have the achievements, the tiles will show up on your profile on Log in and view the achievements. You can even submit them if you want below:

So far I have not seen anyone submit them. Guide is looking good so far, the layout is what I prefer (roadmap on separate post, all steps included, etc). The only thing is that the achievement tiles take up a bunch of character space. I moved down some of it into your reserved post. I believe you will need up to three more possibly. Just go ahead and post 3 reserves and I'll fix them to go under the guide. As far as this being your first guide you are taking the right approach!

Certain synergy attacks have certain critera that must be met before they active like Bubbles right?

They shouldn't. Just pick up the assist item, and if it's your character's synergy partner, it'll happen. Although it seems like certain stages don't allow synergy attacks. The Foster's foyer stage, for example, wouldn't allow them, but the KND treehouse and C.O.O.L.B.U.S. do. Or maybe it's just the game being buggy.

I, for one, did all the synergy achievements in the last Samurai Jack stage in story mode (the bridge).

Towerings 12-16-2011 02:51 AM

Can I play co-op in story mode and still get the achievements?

damiennn 12-21-2011 02:51 AM

For the frenemies achievement I used captian planet for the first half of the fight using his forward sig attack then switched to Ben 10 for the second half of the fight. I found it much easier doing that. Hope that helps. I also unlocked the achievement like a hoss using only captian planet but I did have Hoss Delgado in my party. Not sure if it's a glitch or what.

Tyger7 01-05-2012 05:18 AM

Just to give you a head's up, there are no Billy and Mandy levels. They are "The Grim Adventures". There are 2 achievements where you listed them as Billy and Mandy. I have not seen pretty much any of these shows, so I did not know Billy and Mandy were in the same show as Grim. Took me a while to figure this out after looking on True Achievements!

Easy quick edit :)

Agent CH 01-05-2012 04:25 PM

They're the same thing. The show's full name is "The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy", but most people call it "Billy & Mandy" for short. The level select uses "The Grim Adventures" instead, but calling them "Billy & Mandy" levels isn't incorrect.

nateeasy 01-16-2012 04:58 PM

How do you do the synergy assists?

Edit: Figured it out. Its the blue box pickups. Occasionally they will bring up the synergy assist powers. Just incase any one else was wondering.

nateeasy 01-16-2012 08:28 PM

For Freedom!!! I can confirm you just need Grim in your party. You dont actually have to play as him.

And for Samurai's Journey I used buttercup then switched to Jack right before I pulled the switch and it unlocked. May not need to play as him at all. Just have him in your party.

John Januarius 02-04-2012 07:21 PM

For "Meet my Beautiful Wife," if you're playing co-op story mode and one player uses Scotsman's PTE and the other uses the Peppermint Larry assist, both players will get the achievement.

goodwood9999 02-06-2012 01:10 AM

Do you also need to beat the game to unlock all arenas? I have bought all 5 for 1000 each, but I have no achievement.

OzzieArcane 02-07-2012 08:58 AM

For achievements such as "Win 5 matches against Samurai Jack as Aku" if you do a match with multiple Jacks in it, it will count each of them as a seperate match.

brownstar ninja 02-27-2012 09:20 AM

Thanks for the wonderful guide! :woop:

Ace Attorney 86 03-18-2012 04:35 PM

Great guide! I just wanted to mention a tip I found really useful. Johnny Bravo's forward smash attack (use the right stick) takes a ton of health out of the few boss fights where they have a health bar. If you get a good lick in it will take out about a third of the bar.

In the Kevin, Aku, and final boss fights this came in real handy and if you have to beat the boss as a certain character you can just switch back to who you need to use for the achievement before you land the final blow.

This game is a fun and pretty easy 1,000 if you use the guide. It's a perfect weekend gamefly rental.

Great guide this helped me out a lot but to grind points faster for the Cartoon Collector achievement the last act of samurai jack is best as i was getting 600 i think every 15-20 seconds

MeonOner 07-06-2012 11:56 PM

So I am a little confused, does this game have multiplayer or not ?
Cause it says it doesn't in the road map, but then a little more down in the walkthrough it says it does .
And if this game does multiplayer, how many players are needed to start and play a game ?

The guide is kinda misleading there is no multiplayer just local vs or you can play against A.I i suggest you doing the last level of samurai jack for the moves as its much easier and you get a lot of points from it

Thanks for the guide. This game absolutely sucks lol, I can't finish it quick enough.
