-Glitchy achievements: None
This is my Witcher 2 roadmap to help you plan to get your 1k in 2 playthroughs.
It’s not an achievement guide, but I did add small descriptions on how or what.
The list is in order when you can first get them or when I got them.
I also broke it down in the 2 different paths.
This game requires 2 playthroughs to 1k it. (~1.75 actually if you start on Dark).
Reason is, near the end of chapter1 you have to pick a path (Iorveth or Roche).
I suggest to start on easy/normal on your first, because Dark can be very annoying/unforgiving if you start here right away. Since you have to play it twice anyway, easy/normal is a good way to start and enjoy the game.
Then you can rush through Dark in ~10 hours if you want.
I also suggest going with Iorveth on your first normal/easy playthrough, cos I found it easier than Roche's path.
So the steps to 1k are easy enough and they are:
Normal/easy playthrough with Iorveth and kill the trolls.
Dark playthrough with Vernon Roche and spare the trolls.
Finish 30 arena rounds.
-Arena is separate from the game, handy to get to fight 30 to try out skills and the fighting.
-For your first playthrough, kill all (3) trolls. Trollslayer will pop during chapter 2.
-Spare all 3 on your second (there’s actually a 4th with Vernon, not sure if he counts)
-Read this WIKI and try to get as many abilities as you can on your Dark playthrough.
-Try do do most of the quests on your first playthrough to reach level 35 for Guru.
-I went 95% magic on my Dark playthrough, once Igni is upgraded the game becomes a lot easier.
-Perfectionist is easy to get at the start of chapter 2, when you are under a magical umbrella. Just tag 10 enemies without getting hit.
-Miser, this is not cumulative, you need 10k at once and it’s easy if you loot/harvest a lot.
-Try to save up some points during chapter 2 (8-9 I think), make a save and get the mutant ability. Then reload and spend them like you want to.
For getting the 3 adrenaline ability achievements (the mutant/heliotrope/group finisher) It's much for practical to instead do the quest From a Bygone Era as you are able to fully respec, simply make a save before you talk to the Operator. This is just easier than holding onto points imo.
-Ricochet and Focus need to be unlocked in the trees. Once unlocked, hold block when you isolated some archers and it pops when you killed 1. For Focus, lock on to an enemy and press A when indicated.
Note: some achievements take a few seconds to unlock.
-Eagle Eye, when the king asks you to aim the ballista, look for a small character in the distance.
Chapter 1 missables:
-Librarian, just keep your eyes open during the asylum quest. Last of the 4 pages is in the wraith room.
-Man of the Shadows, during Indecent Proposal. Take your time and don’t get detected, stun all the guards you can. Make sure to find the kayran trap part at the end outside or you will miss Artful Dodger later!
-Artful Dodger, just press A where it shows you to plant the trap to instakill a tentacle when it hits. (must craft kayran trap beforehand ofcourse)
Important: finish the nekker and endrega quests for Pest Control in chapter 3!
Chapter 2 general missables:
-Friend of Trolls/Trollslayer, just either kill or spare trolls during an entire playthrough.
If you want to save them, you will have to finish their quests and save the last troll from enemies.
Chapter 2 Iorveth missables:
-Blackops, don’t get detected while trying to sneak through the Kaedweni camp.
Important: finish the harpy nest quest for Pest Patrol in chapter 3!
Chapter 2 Vernon Roche missables:
-Tourist, just follow Zyvik around.
-Gladiator, don’t forget to drop by here and win all 4 fights. (Talk to Proximo)
-Heartbreaker, for free eboobs, after you defeated Ves, go visit her at Roche’s camp. Pick the right options (very obvious) and do what you want.
-Necromancer, there's 5 (6) easy parts you need to complete.
-Reasons of State, just pick the right option to get this bleepie. It’s during the cutscene after you fight the king.
Important: finish the rotfiend quest for Pest Patrol in chapter 3!
Chapter 3 general missables:
-Pest Control, this pops after you turn in the gargoyle quest.
-Sensitive Guy/Witch Hunter, make a save when you are heading to the tower with the dragon. Pick either to remove or leave the diamond when you meet up with Síle and reload.
-Avenger/Old Friends, make a save before you walk up to Letho, reload and pick other option.
Chapter 3 Iorveth missables:
-Spellbreaker, start by helping Philippa out of the prison. Don't go rescue Triss!
-Dragonheart, choose "Walk away".
Chapter 3 Vernon Roche missables:
-Kingmaker, don't go rescue Triss!
-Being Witcher George, choose "Kill the dragon".
i will format this a bit better if there's any love for this later, but all the info is here.
Blue: missable, but you can get these anytime before you finish the game. I put them where you can get them for the first time, or where they can be gotten somewhat easy.
Red: only available in the mentioned chapter.
5G The Fugitive
Complete the Prologue.
5G To Aedirn!
Complete Chapter 1.
10G Alea Iacta Est
Complete Chapter 2.
15G Once Ain't Enough
Complete Chapter 3.
50G To Be Continued...
Finish the game at any difficulty level.
Finish the game while playing at the Dark difficulty level.
Achieve character level 10.
Can’t miss this.
Achieve character level 35.
Don’t skip too many quests or you will miss this at the end of the game.
Kill a foe by deflecting his own arrow at him.
Acquire the Combat Acumen ability.
Perform three successful ripostes in a row.
Kill three foes at once by performing a group finisher.
Can only be done on human/sentient enemies!
10G Master Alchemist
Acquire the Mutant ability.
10G Master of Magic
Acquire the Sense of Magic ability.
Survive your 5th fight in the Arena
I did it on easy and picked magic skills.
15G Last Man Standing
Survive your 30th fight in the Arena
I did it on easy and picked magic skills.
Roll five-of-a-kind at dice poker.
Very annoying (or not if lucky), get 5 of the same symbols in 2 throws.
10G Eagle Eye
Hit Count Etcheverry using the ballista.
Hire a craftsman to create an item.
Use any merchant to craft you an item, good choice would be the silver witcher sword you find in chapter 1.
Use alchemy to brew five potions or oils.
Just craft 5 potions/oils at once.
Win an arm wrestling match, a dice poker game and a fist fight.
Go to the inn in Flotsam, all 3 of these are in there.
Sometimes conversations have options, pick the “evil eye” to get this.
Find all additional information about the insane asylum's history.
Keep eye out for chests with pages, last of the 4 pages is in the wraith room.
15G Man of the Shadows
Successfully sneak through Loredo's garden and find the component of
the kayran trap.
During Indecent Proposal. Take your time and don’t get detected, stun all the guards you can. Make sure to find the kayran trap part (iron frame) at the end outside or you will miss Artful Dodger later!
30G Artful Dodger
Cut off a tentacle using the kayran trap.
Have Cedric craft the trap and use it in the kayran fight. It shows where to press A there.
Kill the kayran.
Craft a suit of armor from elements of the kayran's carapace.
After killing and looting the kayran (there’s 2 spots to loot it!) crafte the armor. You get the diagram from the merchant as part of the quest reward. You have to tell him to double the payment. Then use Axii on him to get him to agree.
15G Torn Asunder!
Kill more than one opponent using a single exploding bomb.
I used a grapeshot bomb on harpies. You may have to soften them up a little bit before that.
And I think nekkers would be even easier.
Chapter 2 Iorveth's path:
20G Black Ops
Sneak through the lower camp without raising the alarm.
Don’t get caught while sneaking through the Kaedweni camp.
Chapter 2 Vernon Roche's path:
Tour the camp with Zyvik.
Just follow him around the camp once you enter it with Roche.
Defeat all opponents in the Kaedweni arena.
Proximo is the one you should talk to about arenas. You won't be able to do a lot in here though until you complete the quest called The Butcher of Cidaris, which will trigger availability of the quest Ave Henselt, which features Geralt taking part in arena fights.
Go to Roche’s camp after you beat her, pick the right conversation options and bam (pun).
Relive all of Auckes's memories in Dethmold's vision.
The guy MASTER MYRON, where to buy the potion formula GADWALL is right outside the tent (where Dethmold is inside), next to the entrance.
Create the potion (1x Rebis/1xVermilion/1xCaelum/1xSol/1xAether), drink it and talk to Dethmold again to start the ritual.
"After an assassination attempt on king henslet by 2 witchers, auches and w/e. Dethmold wants you to enter the memories of the one you kill to find out etc etc. In here one mistake (stepping on a trap, going the wrong way, dying) will throw you out and you have to go back in.
1st is just easy killing some harpies/bandits, pretty straightforward.
2nd is carefully follow the other guy and don't touch any traps, make sure to look at the ground the entire time. You will proceed to have some convo
<SAVE HERE> you'll find out why.
3rd is your inside the war camp prevalent in ch2. Wait for the 2 guards to start moving, you can move up a tent and hide behind it, and keep following the guard that goes straight (or left you could say) he will turn around 2 times so be careful, line of sight breaks the mission, and I'm not sure if you can re-enter the memories after it breaks this time. once he goes to the fire go to the right and keep going and it should throw you into the next fragment.
4th is just walking straight as the other guy mumbles about some big stuff goin down.
5th is where you are in the kings encapment and fighting. It's pretty easy as your guys are really hax against regular stuff. Just do some rolling and pwn them from behind.
This is where the DING should be, after you kill the last one.
6th, face Geralt, and get owned badly ."
15G Reasons of State
Stop Roche from killing Henselt.
Just pick the right option after you fought the king.
Chapter 2 general:
Kill 10 foes in a row without losing any Vitality.
Very easy to do at the start of chapter 2 when you are under a magical umbrella. Just tag/kill 10 enemies without getting hit.
15G Fat Man
Kill the draug.
15G Friend of Trolls
Spare all trolls in the game.
Kill all the trolls in the game.
30G The Butcher of Blaviken
Kill 500 foes.
Should come naturally somewhere during chapter 2 .
Enhance abilities using mutagens at least five times.
Some skills can be upgraded with mutagens, upgrade 5 skills and you get this.
Chapter 3 Iorveth's path:
Help Iorveth find the dagger needed to free Saskia from the spell that
Start by helping Philippa out of the prison. Missable if you go save Triss instead!
Spare or save Saskia.
Choose "Walk away" after the dragon fight.
Chapter 3 Vernon Roche's path:
Help Roche rescue Anais from the Kaedweni camp.
Missable if you go save Triss instead!
20G Being Witcher George
Kill the dragon.
Choose to kill the dragon after it hit the tree.
Chapter 3 general:
20G Pest Control
Finish all quests involving the destruction of monster nests.
If you completed the nekker and endrega contracts in chapter 1, the harpy/rotfiend quest in chapter 2 and gargoyle contract in chapter 3, this will pop when you turn the gargoyles in.
Collect 10000 orens.
This is not cumulative. Loot a lot and store/sell it. Usually storage is right next to a merchant. So once you think you have enough, take everything out and sell it.
10G Sensitive Guy
Save Síle from dying in the unstable portal.
10G Witch Hunter
Leave Síle to die in the unstable portal.
Finish the game by killing Letho.
30G Old Friends
Finish the game by sparing Letho.
Good job already i,m sure this will become most helpfull :) Thanks buddy! also from the community :p
is it possible to make a save at the trolls and then kill them, reload and then save them to cut down to 1 playthrough???
But I also think it would work. Just do as cheevo360 said.
last troll is in chapter 2 and there's obviously 2 paths for chapter 2 (iorveth and roche)
also let us know when you were wrong and need 2 like i keep saying.
I never said you didnt need 2. You need 2 because of the choice you have to make at the end of chp 1. Im saying you CAN get that achievement for killing and helping the trolls in one playthrough. If hes going for the 1k then it really wouldnt matter unless your trying to get as many achievements as possible in one go.
Sorry I lied - Ive been playing for 9hrs and 12 min. Still dont think you have me beat though
Tip for Eagle Eye achievement, aim at the guy standing next to the Count, Geralt will say 1.5 degrees and it will hit him for the achievement.
I'm on my first EASY run, near the end of Chapter I. Would you recommend to go with Roche or Iorveth!? Since I can hack & slash through easily. In other words, which path should I choose for my second "DARK" run!? Thanks in advance for any answer.
And yeah I already read rokkyrok's suggestion, just want to hear yours out. :blunt
@ Blaze I would do the same, just because of the nature of the quests. Go with Roche your dark playthrough. And my best piece of adive for dark is constantly dodging after every strike you take. It should be like a natural movement: X, B - A, B. But like rok said try to level up magic as much as you can and focus heavily on crafting items that increase your armor/health/resistance.
Good start guide. God I fall and fell in love with this game lots and lots like I felt with Mass Effect 3 so this game is my next in loved with. Hahahahaha:)
Edit: I gave you 5 stars here because good guide and help in case for early time. :)
I'm curious @ cheevo or anyone really - Is Dark too frustrating to play first playthrough? I personally love the challenge but theres a fine line between challenge and just plain annoying. Do the powers make dark mode easy or is there still a fair amount of challenge, maybe powers just help remove the frustration?
Anyways picking this up in a few hours, thanks for the guide and any info.
Ok I know the guide says 2 playthroughs, would this work start on dark?
Play chapter 1 get to the point where you choose your path, make a couple of saves. Then as the guide said do the easy 1 first get your achievements, then revert back to the old save do the other path get all other achievements?
I am only asking because I am picking mine up today, it would at least maybe cut down on some time? Or if somebody did not even want go attempt Dark difficulty they could play on normal, use the 2 saves & get as many achievements in 1 playthrough on normal. Anybody have any ideas?
Keep your distance and just attack once or twice then roll away.
I'm in the beginning of chapter one doing all the side quests available.
My character is Lv. 8 and I've put 5 points into the training tree so far.
most important is the vigor skill that gives you one extra vigor point on lv. 2.
For the next level-ups I'm just saving points so I can experiment a little to see what suits me best.
I wouldn't be discouraged of the dark difficulty setting if I were you.
Thanks for the info killswitch. I think I'll start on Dark difficulty when I pick up my Dark edition this morning. I can't wait to finally play this. :)
Just keep the wiki on hand and its a breeze, i managed to 1k it (with help from the wiki) as the game is very unclear on certain quests/locations to go to on the map.
1st runthough = Dark mode, kill trolls, ioverth path, reload save for both endings, reach 35
2nd runthrough = easy mode, save trolls, Roche Pathe , 2 manual saves for roche last quest( anais or kill dragon)
Half a playthrough as i didnt sneak into the camp (Ioverth path)
Thats how i did it,
Okay that's what I was thinking. Thanks for confirming it. That works out better for me anyway. Since I've already seen Roche's path and know what to expect, it should make Dark that much more manageable. Plus I can knock it down to easy and really enjoy Ioverth's story without having to worry about any difficult surprises. :p
For killing someone with their own arrow does it have to be just the final blow? I killed an archer with his own arrow but kept using it till he died and didn't get this.
Only reason I would deter someone from doing dark right away is that they are more than likely going to get pissed off and hate the game without even giving the story a chance. Its not hard to people who played it before (besides getting used to not having hot keys), but to people new to the game its going to be frustrating
