ok ok I give up trying to basket the DOG's ball. Is there a knack I am missing ? cheers.

Knack: Trial and error.

Take a shot, if it looks like it had too much force and bounced off too fast at the wrong angle, take a couple steps back. If you take the shot and it falls short, or doesn't get enough bounce off the backboard, then take a couple steps forward. You'll get it eventually, just don't move after each shot, or trial and error becomes a lot harder. The gravity gun should have enough power to roll it back to you. Good luck.

Well, i got all gold on portal and ill admit it did take some time on a few of the challenges but the only think i can suggest is go step by step in the youtube videos for getting gold on the portal challenges, they are definitely probably the easiest. For the time challenges, play through the level a few times to get to know it and try to find the quickest route. Theres really not much to say about the portal and the time challenges but for the least steps, now thats a different story. This probably took me the longest to get gold on but when your jumping make sure your not just keep on tapping A because that will take up more steps than you really think. When you take a step wait about a second then jump again because then you will jump farther and it wont take up so many steps and also for the least steps, you have to use the portals like crazy.

Shoot a portal anywhere it will let you then shoot one underneath you, even if it wont move you very much because every little bit helps and it will really be worth it at the end. Also, when you shoot your second portal, right when you exit it, shoot the same color portal at a random wall and let the girl touch the ground. If you do that then it wont even use up a step.

I hope this helps you out a little and if you have any questions at all about any of the challenges dont hesitate to ask. Ill try to help out as much as I can. Just send me a message over live or even a friend request and ill accept it. But i wont be able to private chat or anything because I got the 3 red rings of death today so i have to send it back to get a new one. But, yeah, just send me a message or something and ill make sure to reply over Xbox.com. Good luck on all the challenges

First of all, yes they do stack.

As for the time challenges, I'd suggest that you look for the time with the slowest gold since those are the most "doable" on the 360. For the least steps/portals, again just look it up on youtube and it should be pretty easy to do. Make sure you time your jumps correctly for the least steps.

These do take a lot of time and practice so don't expect to get them right away.

Oh BTW, you can change the sensitivity of the controller in the controller options.

Hopefully that helped in some way. If you have any other questions just ask.

I have a slight problem with my achievements.

When my 360 blew up, i bought the orange box and a new 360, and while i was waiting for the transfer cable to be sent to me a stuck my old harddrive into my new 360 and played offline until i got the cable.

Problem:

when i transfered my data across, it kept the ingame details for orange box saying i had done some achievements, but because i had played offline, my xbox account had no way of knowing i had got those achievements.

So, i now have missing achievements and no way of getting them back because ingame it says i have already got them and wont reactivate the achievement.

Anyone know what i can do?

Can i delete my save for orange box, so i keep my achievements but can then start all the games again?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

PS: i hope im posting this in the right place, this is my 3rd post on the forums and im still getting used to it.

Yes, you posted this in an appropriate place. Welcome to the forum, btw. =)

I'm not an expert with how the saves/achievements intertwine, but what you're proposing sounds like it would work. If you delete the in-game save, it should reset the in-game achievements, allowing you to get the ones you already have technically.

I don't know why that would happen in the first place though, I've gotten achievements offline before and they sync up when I connect to Live.

Conservationist where is this energy ball? and best place ti get this? Towards the end of HL2 there will be a lot of energy balls just floating around. Grab one with your gravity gun and kill 5 people by shooting the energy ball and right when it hits the enemy grab it back.

Blast from the Past - What level is this on? This is right before you meet DOG and right after Alyx gives you the gravity gun. So if you're standing in front of Alyx and looking at her, the ledge should be on your right. You're going to have to stack a few boxes and barrels to get up there, but there's plenty of those around the area.

And as for Zombie Chopper, since you said you did it already you either must have accidentally pulled out a weapon (even the crowbar) and pressed the right trigger. If you're pretty sure you didn't do that then I would just suggest repeating the level.

I'm posting here because I can't find a thread or a button for edits/additions to achievement details. Point me towards one (if there is one), and I'll be sure to use it in the future. For "Lab Rat," it says:

Acquire the fully powered Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device. In the end of Half-Life 2, after you have entered the citadel and you lose all of your weapons except your gravity gun that will turn blue. You can now pick up soldiers and throw them into the ball generators. Do it 15 times and there you go.

That may work, I do not know. What I do know is this:

Storyline related inside of Portal; cannot be missed. After you work out the first section of Puzzle #11, and walk up to the orange portal gun on a turret, you pick up the gun automatically and the achievement is awarded.

How/where who do I need to put this info to get it added?

*EDIT:found it. Submitted request properly.

Also, I'd like to submit the idea of cross-referencing this game in the Retail Games List. I looked and looked under "Portal" and "The Orange Box," only to find it under "Half-Life 2." Can somebody put tags in P for Portal, and in T for "The Orange Box" and maybe "Team Fortress 2" as well, so as to make the game easier to find? Just put the name and link it to the web page that's already there.

Thanks for helping me help you all!

Has anybody else had an issue with getting the "Heavy Weapons" achievement in HL2?

To clear that up, it has in the achievement progress section that i've gotten the achievement for 5 points, but as for as on my XBOX itself and on my gamerscore it doesn't register that i've gotten it or the points. Played through the game twice, and of course, gotten the airboat's mounted gun twice; still no achievement.

Wat teh ghey?

Here I come in ZEALOUS DEFENSE of this achievement list. I'm calling out all the naysayers, especially the ones on the news site comments. Sheesh!

To those who say they are impossible, I say otherwise. :drunk Besides, all it takes is a great community effort like we have here and they could be boosted in the span of maybe an hour each person.

Don't believe me? Well, here, here's a hypothetical guide.

And one more thing, I'm well aware these are for the PC. However, there's no reason that these couldn't in theory be 360 achievements as well... assuming they find some way to get around the whole 99 achievement thing.

First Do No Harm:Play a full round without killing any enemies and score the highest on a team of six or more players.
If you play a competent medic game, this isn't hard at all. All you have to do is just heal everyone in sight, and follow a heavy for good measure. Every point the heavy gets would be a kill assist for you, while you get points for healing and ubering him. Done and done. Easily boostable for those who have trouble getting it.

Quadruple Bypass: Heal a teammate who is taking fire from four enemies at once
You'd probably get this just by following a heavy who walks into a crowded room while holding RT.

Group Health: Work with two other medics to deploy three simultaneous Ubercharges
Boostable, but I see this happen all the time. Two medics on one guy, both deploy ubercharge at same time, done and done. Medic A, Medic B and the Heavy are all ubercharged - simultaneously. Good time to have a microphone. :)

Surgical Prep: Have an Ubercharge ready before the set up phase ends
Just find that one soldier or demoman who's rocketing himself and heal him over and over until charge is full. Probably one of the easiest on here.

Trauma Queen: Deploy three Ubercharges in less than five minutes and assist in five kills during that time
If you get one out the starting gate of something like Dustbowl, and then keep pumping out heals until you get charges 2 and 3, should be easy. I'd imagine the timer starts when you deploy ubercharge 1, so you would have five minutes to charge up 2 ubercharge meters and get the achievement immediately on deploying the 3rd. That's 2mins30s to get 2 ubercharge meters. Not a hard task.

Double Blind Trial: deploy an Ubercharge within eight seconds of a nearby enemy medic deploying his
As soon as you see one medic and friend glow, ubercharge. Easy peasy.

Play Doctor: In a team with no Medics, be first to switch to Medic after a teammate calls medic and heal 500 health
Ok, now this one would be difficult, but it doesn't say 500 health on that person. This one would probably need to be coordinated with friends here online for best results.

Triage: Deploy an Ubercharge on a teammate less than a second before they are hit by a critical explosive
I'd imagine that the offensive medigun unlockable with the achievements would help other medics trying to get this one. This would would indeed be chalked up to luck, OR you could just get the entire Blue team to go soldier, charge your meter, and have them all fire at someone on Red team simultaneously as you Uber them.

Preventative Medicine: Block the enemy from capturing a control point with an Ubercharged teammate
I see this happen everytime I play Well. Definitely not difficult to pull off.

Consultation: Assist a fellow Medic in killing five enemies in a single life
Just run around healing a medic, uber him as necessary, as he chops the living daylights out of people. I assume the fellow medic must survive the single life, so with 2-3 medics on one ASSAULT MEDIC you would all get credit for this even if the support medics got the axe.

Does It Hurt When I Do This?: Kill fifty Scouts with your syringe gun
Shouldn't be a problem if you're boosting, I mean, if you don't have "Hardcore" yet, you get two birds with one stone.

Peer Review: Kill fifty Medics with your bone saw

Good times with boosting again. Enjoy your progress towards "Hardcore" :p

Big Pharma: Assist a heavy in killing thirty enemies where neither of you die
Easy. Especially if you attach 2-3 medics to that heavy, then those 30 enemies are going out in the drop of a hat.

Double post continuation!

You'll Feel a Little Prick: Assist in killing four enemies with a single Ubercharge on a Scout
Two methods. Hope your scout knows his way around the scattergun and baseball bat, or boost it. Get 4 enemy scouts to stand in a line as he scatterguns the living daylights out of them.

Autoclave: Assist in burning eight enemies with a single Ubercharge on a Pyro
Boost it. Or, just hug a pyro on Granary, who will eventually get it as he zergs the starting position.

Blast Assist: Assist in exploding five enemies with a single Ubercharge on a Soldier
Another easy achievement to boost, or just, again, go on a level like Granary where everyone gets together into a single position at the start.

Blunt Trauma: Assist in punching out for enemies with a single Ubercharge on a Heavy
Haha, okay, I have to admit this one is kind of ridiculous, but you could not only boost this one easily, but get some comical satisfaction out of it as well.

Medical Breakthrough: Assist in destroying eight enemy Engineer buildings with a single Ubercharge on a Demoman
Lots of complaints about this one. Eight buildings is two dispensers, two teleport entrances and exits, and two sentries all in the same room, built by your two boosting friends on the enemy team. Go nuts, mister Demoman.

Midwife Crisis: Heal an Engineer as he repairs his sentry gun while it's under enemy fire
If you've played a medic on any level, you've already done this. Hug the engineer, and it will happen eventually. I guarantee it.

Ubi Concordia, Ibi Victoria: Assist in killing five enemies on an enemy control point in a single life

You can get this boosting in conjuction with the Soldier achievement, actually, but if you're really stretched and want to do it legit, just play something like Dustbowl or well until you get it. Notice it doesn't say on the SAME control point, or in a time limit. You could even just get 2, retreat, get the other 3 later, as long as you haven't died.

Grand Rounds: Heal two hundred teammates after they have called for Medic

Well I know I would boost this one in a heartbeat, but a vigilant medic will have no problem getting this over the course of playing the game for fun.

Infernal Medicine: Extinguish one hundred burning teammates
Since you will usually be confronted with 2-5 burning people at once in the face of Pyros, this would come easily.

Doctor Assisted Homicide: Assist in killing twenty nemeses

If you boost, you know that everyone is eventually EVERYONE'S nemesis over the course of an hour, so no reason not to have trouble getting this. Note it doesn't have to be your nemesis, just the nemesis of who you are assisting. Tolerable.
Placebo Effect: Kill five enemies in a single life, while having your Ubercharge ready but undeployed
I'd imagine Kill Assists do not count, but it should still be easy if you're boosting. Just take turns getting it.

Sawbones: Hit enemies with your bone saw ten times in a row without dieing or missing
To boost - hit enemy heavy while he is getting heals from enemy medic. Done.

Intern: Accumulate seven thousand heal points in a single life
See 'Specialist'.

Specialist: Accumulate ten thousand heal points in a single life
This would be hard and the cause of lots of frustration. You could boost this in about 20 minutes per person, though, I'd estimate.

Chief of Staff: Accumulate ten million total health points

Before you say OMG 10 MILLION, SUX, think that if you're playing to get these, you're probably playing to get the Medic weapons, meaning you probably like playing the medic. Just chillax and boost this, or play as the Medic for fun. It will take time, but its not impossible.

Hypocritical Oath: Kill an enemy spy that you have been healing

Boosting this would take all of 5 seconds. Heal, bonesaw, done. The spy would also get 'Master of Deception' if they didn't have it already, win/win!

Medical Intervention: Save a falling teammate from dying on impact
Have a soldier rocket jump off of the radio tower in Dustbowl and ubercharge him before impact.

Second Opinion: Ubercharge two teammates at once
OKAY. Now you may say that this is impossible, but by the name of this achievement, I would imagine all you need to do is Ubercharge another medic who is currently Ubercharging someone else, or do something else that would be introduced in the patch this content would be released in. Keep an open mind, people!

Autopsy Report: Provide an enemy with a freeze cam shot of you taunting above their ragdoll
You know when you die, and the camera zooms up to who killed you and gives you stats and what not before you respawn? THAT is the freeze cam shot. It is not a screenshot, and to whoever confused that on the comments of the news post, shame on you. This is what its referring to.

FYI I am a Medic: use a bone saw to kill five enemy spies who have been calling for Medic
Well, it's not on the same life. Easy. Boost it or get it legit, eventually, in a round full of spies. Also, best achievement name off this list.

Family Practice: Ubercharge ten of your steam community friends
Another thing, whoever tries to call out this list about 'steam friends', and how it would be impossible for a 360, all I have to say is this.

~.WITH FRIENDS LIKE THESE.~

That was an achievement which was steam friends for the PC, and xbox live friends for the 360. Possible. End of discussion on that achievement.

House Call: Join a game that one of your friends is in and then deploy an Ubercharge on him
Absolutely possible on the 360 and one of the easiest on this list.

Bedside Manner: Be healing a teammate as he achieves an achievement of his own
And, finally, you may say it's impossible, but I challenge you all the same - how would a game communicating information to the xbox live servers NOT know when somebody else got an achievement? Our gamercards online and in the console are updated near instantaneously, so the technology is not a limitation.
