Introduction

Contre Jour is a 2D physics-based puzzle game in which you guide a tiny creature through 120 cleverly-designed levels to the exit portal of each. You never actually control the creature itself, but instead manipulate elements of the dark and twisted surrounding world. The challenge lies in collecting all three "lights" and then safely making it to the exit portal. Contre Jour has a beautiful Limbo-esque art style as well as a sensational soundtrack, which together sets the mood perfectly. Currently the game is listed at $2.99 in the Windows Phone Store.

Step 1: Collect all three lights on all levels

Play through all 120 levels starting from the beginning, collecting all three lights per level (and making it to the exit, of course).

Step 2: Mop-up

Complete whatever miscellaneous achievements you may have remaining after collecting all the lights. There likely won't be any.

Conclusion

The best part about this game is the lack of a time limit in completing the levels. This allows you to play at your own pace and enjoy the incredible ambiance Contre Jour offers to the fullest. The miscellaneous achievements are all easy to obtain, and the rest of the achievements simply come through gathering all three lights on all the levels. Some levels are tricky and often require timed precision, but enough walkthroughs exist for a majority of the levels to help if you have lost all hope.

GUIDE

LIGHT-COLLECTION ACHIEVEMENTS (8 for 125 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png)

The following 8 achievements are obtained just by gathering all three lights on all 120 levels of the game.

Collect 300 lights

These achievements will unlock along your path to collecting all three lights on every level in the game. There are a total of 360 lights to collect, so there is a buffer of 60 lights built into obtaining these achievements, likely only a result of the exclusive Windows Phone 6th Chapter. See "Ch.6 'Mango' Perfect" for information on collecting lights.

Get three lights in all levels of chapter 6

These achievements are all obtained by collecting three lights on all 6 Chapters (1 achievement per Chapter). In order for the three lights to count, you must reach the exit portal after collecting ALL the lights. They must be collected at the same time, not individually on separate plays of the level. Each Chapter has 20 levels, meaning in total you will have to collect 360 lights.

Currently, video guides only exist for the first 4 Chapters of the iPhone version. A good collection of them can be found HERE, compliments of contrejourguide.com. Most of these videos show speedruns of the levels, but remember, time does not factor into these achievements in any way. The video guides should be used more for technique than an absolute solution to the levels, especially considering the NOTE below.

NOTE: Some of the levels in the Windows Phone version of the game differ from the iOS version of the game (usually only slightly, but often make the level more challenging), and in many cases are numbered a little differently. For example, Level 1-17 in the Windows Phone version is numbered as 1-18 in the iOS version, and actually has an added enemy to avoid that the iOS version does not.

MISCELLANEOUS ACHIEVEMENTS (6 for 75 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png)

The following 6 achievements are obtained by completing miscellaneous tasks within the game. With the exception of the "Little Price," they can be earned on any level (where possible).

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2485/-VTRqw==.jpg Rush Hour - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Complete any level in 5 seconds

See "Fast and Perfect."

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2485/-3XYHg==.jpg Fast and Perfect - 15 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Complete any level with 3 lights in 10 seconds

This achievement, as well as "Rush Hour," are most easily obtained on the very first level, Level 1-1. With a few quick alterations to the ground, the level can be easily completed, collecting all three lights in 3 seconds or so. This may take a few tries.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2485/-5t2lA==.jpg Speedy Racer - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Reach speed 500 pixels per second on the ground

This achievement will most likely come without even trying, but is easily obtainable on Level 1-17. Just attach the only tentacle on the level to your creature immediately at the start without doing anything else. See THIS video for the set-up if your are somehow confused.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2485/-nuOBw==.jpg The Mighty Bird - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Reach speed 1000 pixels per second in the air

This achievement will likely come without even trying, but is quite easily obtainable on Level 2-7. Attach yourself to both tentacles, then release simultaneously to enter the two portals infinitely and gain immense speed, unlocking this achievement. See THIS video for the set-up.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2485/-pUgjQ==.jpg The Spider - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Link 6 tentacles at the same time

This achievement is simple and can first (and possibly only) be obtained in Level 1-12. Just attach the bottom 2 tentacles to your creature, then the next 2 further up, then the final 2 at the top of the screen. Once all 6 are simultaneously attached, the achievement will unlock.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2485/+PY6Ug==.jpg Little Prince - 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Save the Rose

This is the achievement related to completing the game. You must complete all levels of the first 5 Chapters of the game. Completing levels only requires that you get to the exit portal. You don't have to collect any lights (except the required amount to unlock subsequent chapters). Once you have done this, a rose icon will appear within the Chapter 5 level select screen. Click on it and complete this very simple final level (just get to the portal, there are no lights to collect). The achievement unlocks and then the credits roll. Thanks to PlexShaw for the tip.

GUIDE UPDATES:

9/18/12 - Guide created and nearly complete.

9/19/12 - Raised the completion difficulty to 6/10 from 4/10. Also raised the completion time to 7-11 hours if using a guide, 8-13 if not using any guides. Added information about how to obtain the "Little Prince" achievement based on a tip by PlexShaw. Guide now complete.

nice one arsenic mate, cheers...your guide may have talked me into buying this now :p

sounds like a very easy and laid back 200G, shame it's another puzzler (ish) but well, after the last few weeks of shmups, it would be nice to own a game i can finish

Glad to help. I am not sure of the exact difficulty in the last few chapters, as I have not gotten there yet, but the earlier ones do not seem bad. Then again that later chapters do not have any video guides to help. The game is very laid back, however, which is the best part IMO. We shall see...

The difficulty definitely ramps out in the later chapters. I upped the difficulty to 5/10, but it also may need to be raised further.

EDIT: I have been having some serious trouble on Chapter 5. The solutions are easy to do, it is thinking of them that is issue. So many random objects to manipulate. If there was any kind of a guide it would be cake. I am stumped on 5-14 currently.

Save the Rose

This is most likely an Easter Egg in one of the levels. Not sure which one yet.

In the iOS version, this achievement is obtained by getting 3 lights on all 5 chapters (we don't have the 6th Mango chapter - given the name, I assume it's an exclusive). A rose icon appears at the bottom of the level select for Chapter 5. Tap on the icon to enter the level, get Petit over to the exit using the tentacle, this lights up the rose in the middle of the screen, the achievement unlocks and the end credits roll.

I'm guessing the Windows Phone version will be something similar to this, although possibly on the chapter 6 level select screen.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the heads up. Will add this to the guide once I can confirm which level it is. Thanks. Exact same as the version you describe for the iPhone. I appreciate the extra levels from the developer, bu then never include them in the "complete the whole game" achievements. Kind of lazy. This also happened with Little Acorns, and some other games I forget.

Ok, well I finally completed this game. I do have to say it is harder than I initially expected it to be. The WP version has slightly different levels than the iPhone, with the differences usually making this version harder.

I completed the first three chapters in about 1 hour - 1.5 hours each. The fourth and fifth chapters are more challenging and took me 2-3 hours or so each. Chapter 6 took about 1 hour. The total time for completion for me was around 9-10 hours.

Chapter 4 and in particular Chapter 5 have very tricky levels. A few I was stuck on for 30 minutes or so. The exclusive Chapter 6 was actually easier IMO that Chapter 4 and 5. Because of this, I will change the difficulty to 6/10.

I will update the completion time to 7-11 hours. I did use a guide on some levels. Not many though. I will add that if you dont use guides, the time would be 8-13 hours.

Please comment if you find these times /difficulty reasonable or not. Also if you happen to find guides for Chapters 5 or 6.

Arsenic thank you for another excelent guide, so far I am not having to much trouble with chapter 4, I can easily solve the puzzles, what make it difficult is the precision and timing you need in a few parts.

I would rate it as 5/10 difficult and estimated time to complete 10hours.

edit: I reached chapter 6 in around 6 hours without using guides/tips so I guess I will be done in 1 more hour. IMO this game should take you at least 7 hours and 10 hours maximum.

I believe it happened in Roll in the Hole as well.

I finished the game in 7-8 hours without solutions. Like I said before in theory it's easy to solve most of the puzzles, the real trouble is to perform it since sometimes you need the right timing and you might get stuck in a level for a few minutes, other than that sometimes the "touchscreen" is not 100% accurate, if you are trying to use a rope to grab the little creature and have a moving platform near you can press on the rope but the game think you are touching the platform. After all this is a good and very enjoyable game, and a satisfying 200G if you solve the puzzles by yourself :p

Next step -> Galaga Legions DX ;)

I think it is a great game :p I am planning on making an achievement guide and roadmap for it since there is none. BTW I played Hasta la Muerte first and made an achievement guide and road map, if you are interested in playing that game make sure you check it out. According to trueachievements there is only 25 players with the game complete (9.16%) and it only took me 5-6 hours to complete :)

I started posting some solution videos to my YouTube channel:

It may take me some time to finish up all the levels though. It is much harder playing the levels while having a webcam in between.

I believe it man. I made lots of mini achievement guide videos, and that is a pain, even with my wife holding the camera!

Thanks for the vids! Please post again when you have completed them so I can add to this forum guide.

All done and uploaded. Level 4-19 is by far the hardest level in the game. Getting that ball to swing fast enough without hitting the spikes to get to the exit was such a pain.

Here's the link to the actual playlist. Should make it easier to select which level you need.
