Introduction

This game is definitely a classic. For many of us, we already know this game forwards and backwards. But sadly, for some of us, this may be our first time ever playing the great Doom II. Even if you are fresh to this game, never fear, as I have constructed this guide to help you with these achievements and to walk you through step by step.

Step One

First things first, start up “Hell on Earth” on I’m too young to die. On this first level, get the achievements for finding a secret area, finishing the level, and finishing the level with 100% in kills, items, and secrets. After you have done this, load up the beginning of the episode again, this time on Nightmare. Run through the level and finish it to obtain that achievement. Now start over once more on I’m too young to die (or Ultra-violence if you can obtain all of these in one go). When you get to the second level, get the achievement for twenty chainsaw kills. After that, continue on throughout the game until you reach level eight. At level eight, follow the guide for obtaining the BFG. Now at level nine, you can get the achievement for twenty kills with the berserk powerup (you can also do this on level one of the new episode). Now at level ten (if you are on Ultra-violence) follow the guide for the CyberDemon. If you are on I’m too young to die, follow the guide for it for level fifteen. Now you should have eight achievements. Finish the episode and you’ll net another. Play through the brand new episode to net one more. Now you should have ten achievements. The only achievements that should be remaining are the ones for Xbox LIVE kills, and completing the game on Ultra-violence. If you already did the episodes on Ultra-violence, now only Xbox LIVE kills remain.

Step Two

Unless you did all of the achievements on Ultra-violence the first playthrough, now is the time to do this. If you’ve already done this, skip to step three. Start up the original episode on Ultra-violence and complete it, as well as the second new episode.

Step Three

In case you didn’t get something, or you happened to miss something now’s the time. Go back and get whatever you didn’t get the first two times. You may have to play through part of an episode in order to get back to where the achievement(s) can be obtained.

Step Four

Now it’s time to get that pesky little online achievement, let’s just be glad that there’s only one. Get a friend or find one to help you get this out of the way. Follow the guide for this one and you should have your 200G. Congrats!

Conclusion

Once again we are able to experience one of the greatest FPS games to date. All in all the achievements are very well laid out and nothing is too difficult, even for the average player. Patience and determination is what secures the 200:gsicon: in this amazing game.

Burning Out of Control - 15http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg

Complete any level with 100% kills, items, and secrets in Single player.

This is easiest to do on the first level of “Hell on Earth” on I’m too young to die difficulty. You don’t have to pick up the items for them to count; you just have to walk over them. Here is a list of all the things you’ll encounter in order:

  1. Turn around at the start to find a chainsaw around the corner.
  2. Two zombies in front of you in the first room.
  3. Pistol clip, in the left corner, first room.
  4. Armor bonus, in the right corner, first room.
  5. Health pickup, behind right support beam, first room.
  6. Enter room on the left in the green hallway, has blue floor.
  7. Four zombies on raised platforms, blue floored room.
  8. Press right button first, then left button, on the raised platforms, same room.
  9. Secret room opens in back right corner, two health pickups and a green armor.
  10. Continue down hallway, eight blue health vials at the end.
  11. One zombie in hallway to the right, before the vials.
  12. Zombie on the lift to the right, in the last room, has brown walls and floor.
  13. Health pickup on lift where that zombie was.
  14. Imp in a cage in back left corner.
  15. Go up lift, press use on wall behind lift, door opens at the top, press switch.
  16. Run off the lift and land on the top of the square light below you.
  17. Go back to the health vials, secret area opens with a rocket launcher.
  18. Go back to the last room; go to the back right corner, to the right of the Imp, a door leading outside should be open.
  19. Shotgun and shotgun shells in the back right corner as soon as you go outside.
  20. Press http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/a.png on the wall to the right of the Imp, secret compartment should open which contains one health pickup.
  21. Inside EXIT room, three big health kits and one pistol clip.

Rip and Tear - 20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg

Complete any level on 'Nightmare' in Single player.

Load up the very first level of “Hell on Earth” and run through it like the wind. At the start, turn around and get the chainsaw, it’ll help for running through enemies. Keep it revving throughout the entire level. Jump down and enter the hallway, take a right, keep going past the door on the left then take another right, then you’ll be in a brown room, take a left here, then keep going along that left wall and take one more left and there’s the finish room. Be careful though, there will be an Imp waiting inside.

The Great Communicator - 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg

Get 20 kills using the Chainsaw in a single level in Single player.

This is easiest done on the second level in “Hell on Earth.” Make sure that you get the chainsaw in the first level behind you at the start. Just run around with the chainsaw and you will have no trouble getting twenty kills. Increased difficulty spawns more enemies, but it is easy enough on I’m too young to die.

A Man and a Half - 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg

Get 20 kills using the Berserk Powerup in a single level in Single player.

There are plenty of places where you can obtain this without any trouble. The best and quickest place would definitely have to be the very first level of the new episode, "No Rest for the Living." Simply start up this episode on Hurt me Plenty. The best way to go about obtaining this is to grab the power-up and then kill everything in sight with it. Keep killing enemies with your fists until you get the achievement.

A Really Big Gun - 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg

Find a BFG in Single player.

The earliest BFG that can be found is in level eight, “Tricks and Traps.” Follow these steps:

  1. At the start of the level, go into the door to the left of the one you spawn facing.
  2. Go to the back of this room, it is a beige colored room with about six Cacodemons that come out (big red-pink floating blobs).
  3. Hit the switch at the back of this room, and then go into the room that you spawned facing, it’s the room with green and white walls with a rocket launcher and pinky demons to the right as you enter on an elevated platform.
  4. Go and pick up the rocket launcher and kill all the pinkies.
  5. There are two switches at the top, hit the one on the right. A door should open where the rocket launcher was.
  6. Go into this room and then to the back to find a blue mega-health power up. Pick this up and then turn around.
  7. About eight more pinky demons will spawn, kill all of them.
  8. Look around this room to find a green pentagram textured wall with a small candle underneath it. This looks identical to the achievement picture for “From Hell to Earth.”
  9. Shoot the candle, and the wall will open, revealing the BFG stuffed neatly behind it.

You Have Huge Guts - 20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg

Kill a CyberDemon using your fists in Single player.

There are several levels that have a CyberDemon in both “Hell on Earth” and “No Rest for the Living.” The earliest place that it can be done is on level eight, “Tricks and Traps.” It is a lot safer and easier to attempt it on the second secret level, level thirty-two “Grosse,” however. You do not have to kill it entirely with fists; you can hurt it with other weapons, and then finish it off.

The best way to kill it on level eight is to let the Hell Barons do most of the work, then mop up after and keep using the invincibility power-ups to survive while you punch away at it. Make sure to save before attempting this, in case you mess up.

Steps to kill it on level ten on UV:

  1. The first thing to do is obvious, clear out most of the level, take your time, you’re in no rush.
  2. The CyberDemon is in a little alcove above the exit hallway, this is in a dark room with two lights in the middle of the floor.
  3. Head up to this room and save.
  4. Hit it four direct times with the BFG.
  5. Hit it three to four times with rockets.
  6. Now pick up the invulnerability power-up to the left as you enter this room, and start punching it.
  7. Around two to three punches should take it down.

How to kill it on level thirty-two (secret level):

  1. At the start, avoid taking the Berserk power-up, and instead head through the door and you’ll be in a huge room.
  2. There will be two blue torches and three green torches on each side.
  3. There will also be five grey stone blocks on both sides.
  4. Behind the second green torch on the right side, is a stone block. Behind this stone block is a wall, and on the wall behind the block is a golden adornment of some kind with a swastika behind in the middle of it. Press http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/a.png on this and an invulnerability power-up will be revealed.
  5. Head to the door at the back of the big room you entered, this will trigger the CyberDemon to spawn.
  6. Hit it twice with the BFG, which you should have from level eight.
  7. Now run to the Berserk power-up and grab it.
  8. Now go to the invulnerability power-up and grab it.
  9. Now start punching the CyberDemon until it dies.

Superior Firepower - 25http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg

Complete all levels on 'Ultra-Violence' or higher in Single player.

For this one, you have to finish every single level on “Ultra-Violence.” The best way to go about doing this is to take each level slow and steady. Save very often, since you are allowed to save anywhere, so make good use of that. Be careful not to save while moving, you may load and be falling into a pit with no escape. Conserve all the ammo you can, chainsaw pinky demons instead of use ammo. Doom II is about the same as the first one. There are a lot less hard levels in this game though.

NOTE: Secret levels are NOT required.

Get 100 frags in Deathmatch on Xbox LIVE.

Set up a private game with a friend or with a boosting partner, on Level 1: Entryway. Make it for two players and a private game. Set it for unlimited score and twenty minutes. Go to where the rocket launcher spawns and sit here. Just keep telling your friend to go in that green hallway and hit him with rockets. It takes around ten minutes to get one hundred kills, then switch.

"I’m pretty sure you don’t have to pick up the items for them to count; you just have to walk over them."

The only things that count for your item total are health and armor bonuses and power-ups.

Nice guide. Only thing I don't like which a lot of guides are doing nowadays is say 'dependant on skill' in the time estimate, because surely that's the case for every game? Better to try and estimate how long the average gamer would take.

I've plowed through the campaign of Doom 2 on Ultra-Violence in about 4 hours. While I do suspect that most people will have trouble, I think 15 hours is a bit ridiculous for a time stamp.

My question, though, is whether these achievements can be unlocked in Co-op online. While I certainly can demolish this game by myself, it would be nice to have someone else go it with me.

Another very easy place to get "A Man and a Half" is on the first level of the new episode. I loaded it up just to see the new level out of curiosity on "I'm to Young to Die" and I found the pack and figured, why not? Very easy to get that way and you don't have to play up to level 9 to get it.

Nice guide, well put together. Does anyone know how many levels are in each "campaign" total? I might be helpful to list the levels under the corresponding achievements - for me anyway. It's been WAY too long since I've played this.

Hell on Earth is 32 levels (two of which are secret and not required for any achievements)

The new episode is 9 levels (one is secret, and again isn't required for any achievements)

Burning Out of Control

15 Complete any level with 100% kills, items, and secrets in Single player

This is easiest to do on the first level of “Hell on Earth” on I’m too young to die difficulty. You don’t have to pick up the items for them to count; you just have to walk over them. Here is a list of all the things you’ll encounter in order:

- Turn around at the start to find a chainsaw around the corner, at the start.

- Two zombies right in front of you in the first room.

- Pistol clip, in the left corner, first room.

- Armor bonus, in the right corner, first room.

- Health pickup, behind right support, first room.

- Enter the room on the left in the green hallway, it has a blue floor.

- Four zombies on raised platforms, blue floored room.

- Press the right button first, then the left button, on the raised platforms, same room.

- Secret room opens in back right corner, two health pickups and a green armor.

- Continue down the hallway, eight blue health vials at the end.

- One zombie in the hallway to the right, before the vials.

- Zombie on the lift to the right, in the last room, has brown walls and floor.

- Health pickup on the lift where that zombie was.

- Imp in a cage in the back left corner.

- Go up the lift, press use on wall behind the lift, a door opens at the top, press the switch.

- Run off the lift and land on the top of the square light below you.

- Go back to the health vials, secret area opens with a rocket launcher.

- Go back to the last room; go to the back right corner, to the right of the Imp, a door leading outside should be open.

- Shotgun and shotgun shells in the back right corner as soon as you go outside.

- Press use on the wall to the right of the Imp, a secret compartment should open which contains one health pickup.

- Inside EXIT room, three big health kits and one pistol clip.

I also found this incredibly easy on Level 7 : Dead Simple. Just by killing all the enemies and picking up all the ammo i managed to get 100% everything.

20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg Kill a CyberDemon using your fists in Single player

There are several levels that have a CyberDemon in both “Hell on Earth” and “No Rest for the Living.” The earliest place that it can be done is on level eight, “Tricks and Traps.” It is a lot safer and easier to attempt it on the second secret level, however, level thirty-two “Grosse.” You do not have to kill it entirely with fists; you can hurt it with other weapons, and then finish it off.

Here are the steps on how to do it on level ten (on Ultra-violence):

- The first thing to do is obvious, clear out most of the level, take your time, you’re in no rush.

- The CyberDemon is in a little alcove above the exit hallway, this is in a dark room with two lights in the middle of the floor.

- Hit the CyberDemon about five or six times. (I’m unsure of this number.)

- There are two invulnerability powerups near you, one is obvious, one is in a secret. (Unsure of its location.)

- Use these while you’re punching it.

Here are the steps on how to do it on level thirty-two (secret level video at end of guide):

- At the start, avoid taking the Berserk Powerup, and instead head through the door and you’ll be in a huge room.

- There will be two blue torches and three green torches on each side.

- There will also be five grey stone blocks on both sides.

- Hit it twice with the BFG, which you should have from level eight.

- Now run to the Berserk Powerup and grab it.

- Now go to the invulnerability powerup and grab it.

- Now start punching the CyberDemon until it dies.

Ah yeah, Grosse does have a Berserk, doesn't it? I was going to that level anyway, but now while I'm there I'll try punching me some Cyberdemon. I couldn't get it to work out properly in Tricks and Traps.

Another good place to kill the Cyberdemon is at the end of Refuelling base (Level 10). The Cyberdemon is only with two Imps, so no one will steal the kill from you and there is a lot of plasma-ammo around in case you need it and of course immortality to finish the thing off. Also this is pretty safe place to do it as the Cyberdemon is behind a corner so you can easily hide from it by just backtracking.

10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg Get 20 kills using the Berserk Powerup in a single level in Single player

There are around thirty-three Berserk Powerups in Doom II “Hell on Earth.” The best place to get this one, though, is on level nine, “The Pit.” This level has three Berserk Powerups in total, but you’ll only need to pick up one. The best way to go about obtaining this is to grab the powerup, without killing anything nearby, and then kill everything in sight with it. Keep killing enemies with your fists until you get the achievement. Here’s the location of the earliest one:

Press use on the elevator to your front left when you start. Go up and to the back of this area. There will be an elevator with a black tiled wall above it. Go up this elevator and press use on the switch on the left. The powerup is behind the black tiled wall which opens. Kill everything behind you with this, and then press use on an elevator and get on the biggest one. You should be able to kill a zombie at the top of each elevator before it runs out.

I just read in another thread that the first level of the new episode has a Berserk item right at the start of the level, making it easy to pick this achievement up right away. Right on the first level, and right at the start, so you don't have to worry about keeping baddies alive until you find one.

Also your last sentence is silly, Berserk packs don't run out. I got my achievement long after the red tint was gone from my screen, and it should be common knowledge to any veterans of this game anyway. Every manual I've seen for this ever says the duration is for the entire level.

Yup, beserk packs last for the entire level.

I've got a video being created right now, it does two things:

Shows where the berserk powerup is on the first level of the new chapter, so you can get the achievement right from the start of the game.

Shows me gibbing people, and indeed getting the achievement, long after the red tint is gone. So hopefully we can end this confusion of needing multiple berserk powerups to get this and have people get their achievement a little easier (I can't imagine trying it on a level like The Pit myself: too many Lost Souls, Pain Elementals, and Mancubi for my taste!).

Whether or not it ends up on a guide isn't terribly important to me, but hopefully more people can become educated on Berserk powerups because of it.

EDIT: Here we go.

I have some pointers for people trying to punch the Cyberdemon down on Ultra-Violence. Use 5 BFG shots and 4 Rocket Launcher shots. Then it should be about 2-3 punches with a Berserker power-up.

I did that on Level 32 (Grosse) and loaded my save numerous times to test it.

Link to comment

5 BFG shots? That's possibly overkill, depending on how much of the BFG's blast hit him each time. I had to use three, because 4 downed him for me on Ultraviolence.

The BFG is a somewhat tricky gun... It's certainly more complicated than Berserk packs. I'll see if I can find a guide about it (I know I read one once, back in the day), but basically it can do more damage if your target is visible when the blast detonates. So it probably could be 5 shots depending on circumstance... What I'm trying to get at though, is that it can be any number of shot, so best bet would be to keep a save file handy before you take him on in case 5 ends up being too many.

EDIT: Found it. http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/524287-doom/faqs/1776

It's a long read, so if people don't want to bother with it, just keep in mind to save before tackling the Cyberdemon an attempt for "You Have Huge Guts" and you'll be fine.

EDIT 2: I found a description that's a bit easier to understand (it also has some contradictions with the above guide as well; I can't say which is right).

http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/BFG

When the trigger is pulled, there is a pause of 30 tics (about 0.857 seconds) before a green and white plasma ball is ejected. If the large plasma ball hits a solid object, it explodes and causes 100-800 hit points of damage to the target, in round multiples of 100.

After a further pause of 16 tics (about 0.457 seconds), additional damage is calculated: 40 invisible tracer rays are emitted by the player in a cone-shaped area (about 45° half-angle) in the direction the plasma ball was fired. (If the player has turned around, the direction of the rays does not change — they are still traced in the direction of firing of the original plasma ball. If he has moved to another location, their origin moves along with him.) Each ray causes 49-87 points of damage if it hits a solid object within 1024 map units. Even cyberdemons and spiderdemons, which are immune to blast damage, are affected by these rays.

Therefore, the minimal damage of the weapon is 49 points (if an object is hit by one ray and not the plasma ball) and, hypothetically, the maximal damage is 800 + (40 × 87) = 4280 points (if the plasma ball hits an object for full damage and all 40 tracers also hit the object for full damage). However, even should all 40 rays and the energy ball hit a single target, that much damage can still never actually be inflicted due to the periodicity of the simplistic pseudorandom number generator used by the Doom engine.

Yeah the BFG does actually have some complicated math when it comes to working out the damage.

So much that someone decided to make a website dedicated to it!

Ah, that's the same thing I linked, except yours isn't GameFAQs version and thus it has nice pictures instead of ASCII ones. Good find. :D

Also want to know the above thanks, because it's really great in CO OP!
