Don't quote me on this but wasn't Rage announced first? I remember seeing some footage of that before even hearing about Borderlands.. At which point thinking that looks a lot like Rage. Doesn't really matter either way, I enjoyed Borderlands very much and hopefully this one too.

If you are implying id software are copying Borderlands because of the similarities, you could then say every fps since Wolfenstein has copied from id software.

RAGE was officially announced on August 2nd, 2007 (shown as a tech demo in July 2007). Borderlands was first announced with a first look in the September 2007 issue of Game Informer.

You'll never know which would copy the others because you don't know when the ideas were first thought up.

Rage was first and it's going to kick borderlands ass.:)

Seeing as how RAGE will be released 2 years after Borderlands, you would think so...

While I do love Borderlands, I'm giving my vote to Rage. For one it's developed by Bethesda (enough said). Borderlands was fun and all but to be honest the cartoon graphics killed me. Everything had a limbo 2d/3d feel to it that changed the tone of the game. Hopefully with the graphics of rage it will have that real survivor feel to it.

Two very different games in two very similar settings. Enough difference to justify the owning of both, but enough similarity to safely say lovers of one will probably love the other as well.

Borderlands was an over-the-top arcadish 4-player shoot 'em up with a Diablo-style looting system and Cel-shaded graphics (which I love Cel-Shading personally.) Also relied on humor like the instant classic Clap-trap.

Rage is a grounded, realistic (somewhat) game with a heavy focus on Gun-play and Racing more-so than looting and leveling. Also takes a much more serious approach toward it's universe.

Again, two games that in similar settings, but very much different. I love Borderlands and although I've been disappointed with Id games these last few years (wasn't too fond of Doom 3 or Quake 4) I think this is going to be a wonderful comeback (though it's a shame they don't have Romero. Him and Carmack were the Dynamic Duo back in the day. Why they ever decided to split is beyond me.)

Actually it's being developed by Id Software (Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein) Bethesda is just publishing it (in case you were thinking this game was being done by the guys behind Elder Scrolls and Fallout 3, which isn't the case.)

If anything you should look into Brink. It's being published by an in-house Bethesda Developer and there are a handful of the ES/FO3 developers helping out with it.

Rage will never get the support that Borderlands got. When Rage is forgotten we'll still be getting add-ons for Borderlands.

Actually I'm pretty sure it was stated somewhere that Borderlands DLC content is done. Now we're waiting on the sequel (which they coprighted name rights for a "Borderworlds" a year ago or so, so expect Borderlands on an Elder Scrolls or maybe even a WoW scope of size.

I looking at this game more and more and it just seem like an enticing invitation to play another game so similar to Borderlands. If this game is anything like Borderlands I'm going to get this game for sure on day one, and to be honest having similarities isn't bad. It only becomes bad if it's similarities are carbon copies of the thing it's being compared to

I am guessing that everyone is assuming that Rage is going to be a lot like Borderlands based on the 3 pictures provided above, in which case I think you should watch some game play videos. It really looks very different from Borderlands, so why does anyone care which went into development first. It really wouldnt matter either way but Rage looks nothing like borderlands. Funny though how much those screens look alike, but still there are only 3 screens to compare to above. We were comparing Fallout 3 to Borderlands before they came out but see how different they are...

Even though it is coming out long after, I would not be surprised if Rage was in development LONG before Borderlands.

Remember people Rage is the game that iD is using to develop/showcase/debut its new iD Tech 5 engine. I guarentee they pretty much started working on that engine the second they finished production on Quake 4. So Rage very possibly has existed, at least in an embryonic state, since right after Q4 came out (2005).
